I live in Minnesota and I take mine off in the winter and bring it in the house. I have a smaller Blackstone I use in the garage in the winter. It’s always griddle season!!
It's always griddle season! I live in Rociada NM at 7500'. My griddle lives in the garage except when I'm using it as we have bears and if you leave it out you won't have one anymore. That said I grill or griddle anytime it is above 40º I find below that the liquid propane doesn't turn into enough gas to supply heat to get the grill or griddle up to temperature. By the way we are having a very warm fall so far 70º vs normal 42º for a high today. Loving it! Thanks for the video!
Thank you so much for watching and for sticking it out with us fam!! Having the garage is a big plus! We hope the weather keeps for you a bit longer fam!!🔥🔥
Great video and tips once again. I don’t feel like standing out in the snow wearing my insulated coveralls in the cold of Toronto, Ontario…so I just take the cooktop off my Ultimate, and place it in the basement until spring. This way I don’t have to worry about it. Also being Canadian, under the cover to create the ‘tent’ effect you mention, I put - what else - 2 hockey pucks under it LOL! But that’s me; and for others “it’s always griddle season”! 😁👍🏼🇨🇦
In south Alabama I use mine year round. Even when we lived in Indiana I’d pull it into the garage and cook if necessary. I’ve cooked in the snow many times too. Griddle on
I BBQ & make pizza all year, but it’s going to be a first for my griddle. Nothing like cooking outside at - 30 or -40 🥶🇨🇦 not sure if I will fire up the griddle at those temps, don’t want warp speed on the steel. But hey “ It’s Always Griddle Season “ Rain or Shine or 40 below
Haha!! Thank you for sticking it out with us fam!! For sure you gotta be careful. If you need to cook, you could start at a lower temp and bring it up as the griddle gets warm. Cheers!!🔥🔥
That Pitboss looks like my Blue Rhino. Love the fact the lid makes the side shelves. And the front grease cup. Thanks for your videos. We get snow here in Canada, not great griddling in winter.
We love it! It’s one of those things that once you have the large side shelves, it’s tough to go back. We also like that it opens up the back side too!🔥🔥
I also followed the ideas from another you tuber with putting a layer of crisco and then covered it with parchment paper and then my hard top and then covered with the soft cover. I went an extra step and put a tarp over top to keep the soft cover protected from the elements. Hope this helps.
Hey fam, thank you so much for watching! Do you mean like this? (Not a slider version, but we tried to copy the OG): th-cam.com/video/Ce0LPgVIQ3E/w-d-xo.htmlsi=0hoj_5N8HLr4cgLT
Excellent tips and tricks video Brotha! I live in Central Cali, so for the most part I can use mine year round. I just open the garage door for an awning. Cheers my guy 👊🏼😎🤙🏼
I use a product called Buzzy Wax on my cast iron and griddle. I really like it because living in humid Oklahoma, it really protects the iron from rust. Give them a look.
It's always griddle season... somewhere! Great pro tip video, so many people on the forums are always asking. I used to store mine in the garage for the winter, but tried leaving it outside last time and it didn't have any rust, I will leave it out this winter again. I will even use mine from time to time in the winter since it's out. If we have some nice sunny cold days it's still fun to cook outside. One thing I'd mention in winterizing the griddle (or grill for that matter), is to make sure you dry off all the moisture from the surface of the outside cabinet, hood, shelves, etc. You want to make sure everything is good and dry before covering it and possibly trapping in the moisture. When you have higher humidity, condensation can leave moisture too. I just make sure I dry everything off with a towel. Hey Adam, do I see a little bit of hair on your head? 😉 I grew my hair out again, I'll probably shave it off this spring however.
It's always Griddle Season even here in Wyoming. I have a covered area for my Griddle and smoker that I built this spring so I am anxious to see how well I can use it for winter cooking. I like this video as it shows how you can prepare your griddle for the winter season but it isn't anything that you can't undo in a couple of minutes if you want to sneak in another winter cook!
Good knowledge, I had to cover my griddle last year, and didn't put enough oil on the surface. It all worked out though. Small amounts of surface rust gone in no time !!
Great tips here! For me, I do cook year round. I remember one storm where I shoveled a path from the door to the grill! Gotta re-learn your heat management from when it's 95° in August vs. 30° in January, but it's absolutely worth it! Excellent as always brother!
I live in South Dakota and generally put my grill/griddle up for the winter once we get into the 30’s or below (like -20F occasionally). I prefer keeping heat indoors then rather than burning propane or wood outside. It’s the exact opposite in Spring/Summer/Fall, when I prefer to cook outside and not heat up the house during warm weather. I’ll admit to losing the opportunity to smoke foods, and of course make Philly Cheesesteaks on the griddle then, but most other things I can cook fine indoors too. In the winter, I just cook ribeye steaks indoors rather than slicing them for cheesesteaks. My 14 month old Pit Boss KC Combo, has proven very difficult to weatherize adequately. I’ve already had to do a partial reseasoning. Due to design flaws, the integral metal griddle cover leaks stormwater onto the griddle surface. I wonder if your metal Pit Boss cover would not have a similar issue, due to the seam down the middle when closed. Not an issue for a covered patio like yours, but a significant issue if your grill area is unprotected like mine. Of course, that should not be an issue with a good fabric cover. Unfortunately, I’ve found the fitted Pit Boss fabric cover for my unit to be poorly made, as have many others (see review comments on the Pit Boss and WalMart web sites). That cover suffers from rapid UV degradation, which is further exacerbated by some design issues with the KC Combo (protrusions from integral lids cause tearing during high winds). I’m already using my second cover, and already purchased a third knowing it won’t hold up. Although I’ll lose the ability for a warranty replacement cover, It looks like Pit Boss and WalMart have already discontinued the KC Combo after only a couple years (maybe a single production run), so I assume that when those covers are out of stock at WalMart that will be the end of them. At $60/cover it significantly impacts the costs of owning this unit. I thought your other subscribers should be aware that in spite of Pit Boss touting their product design skills, they seem to market their products without proper testing that would identify significant issues prior to production for sale. Their answer to me has been “store the unit out of the weather”. That’s not really practical for many people, myself included. Although I might decide to store the griddle surface inside this winter, it does not resolve issues with weather during the spring/summer/fall seasons. I’m certainly not going to bring my griddle top inside after each during the seasons that I use it almost daily.
I did this last year to my Cuisinart griddle. Ended up having to use that and my smoker during the Christmas blizzard last year when we lost power for the day. Not going to jinx myself this winter.........
😊Hey Brett, is your entire pool area screened in? How big is your covered patio area? We here in AZ get to griddle most of the year, but in the summer, sometimes it’s just too hot!
Blasfemy, put the griddle away for winter?! So are you just NOT going to cook/heat food all winter? The griddle NEVER gets put away, like closing down the kitchen!
Why, in the name of all that is holy, would you put your griddle or grill away!!?? How are you going to cook on it if it's put away? I live in Minnesota and grill and griddle all year long. The griddle is a bit more challenging due to the obvious low temps. You really have to watch your fuel, because propane is less efficient in the cold, but hey, if it ain't worth doing all year, it ain't worth doing. Get your body acclimated to the cold and griddle on 😀.
I live in northern Minnesota and griddle year round on the back deck. Just have to shovel a path during the winter!
It's always Griddle season here in PA...

Hahaha, around here (Phoenix area) winter is when we cook on the flattop most often! It is too hot at 112F to cook outside in the summer!

Another quick tip, is empty your grease catch and add something to prevent rodents from wanting to make your griddle a home for the winter. 👍
