@@digitd4663 - Ah yes, I've found that now, and as you say it's 676,304 vacant, of which 248,149 are long term vacant (over 6 months). It seems the coalition govt of 2010-15 introduced an empty homes programme to address the problem. Which brought 9000 homes back into use, at a cost of £216m (£24k each). But it was closed in 2015. My area, in the North-West, seems to have the highest number, which doesn't surprise me as there's lots of old, substandard housing stock, the rental or sale value of which is low, so prob not worth upgrading to modern standards.

70% of business in the UK is owned by Foreign interests. This means the only thing they want to pay for is labour and nothing else. By filling the country with migrants labour costs are kept to the lowest possible fraction and it is as simple as that. British people do not own anything in Britain, we are a colony of the united states. This is why nothing gets spent on our infrastructure.

It's nonsense to say not enough houses are being built, the problem is house prices are out of control and little to no social housing is being built. Even if by some miracle Starmer's government was able to actually keep to this promise, it still would make zero difference as long as the uniparty keeps enabling the mass importation of a population the size of Liverpool every year! Lets put this in to perspective shall we? By the UK government's own published statistics, the 2024 estimated population of Liverpool is 922,871. The net immigration stats for the year of 2023 are 722,000! The stats show the natural population increase through births was around 500,000. So, is Starmer going to guarantee the complete construction of at least 1.2 million homes a year?
Sorry, but this country has a below replacement birth rate, so the housing market disaster is directly being caused by excessive demands of mass immigration. Why the hell should we be trying to pave over our countryside to turn this country in to some dystopian megacity like in Judge Dredd just so our virtue signalling political elite can build homes to cope with the mass immigration there policies allow and encourage!

First time buyers are not looking at 400k to 600k. Even people on good salaries with struggle with houses in the 600k mark. Even older people will struggle to buy 600k properties and that is why many live in houses valued much less than that. I’m talking about first time buyers. I just sold a rental property I owned to my tenants from India who came here to work as a nurse and carer. Modest jobs. They purchased my property 3 years after they arrived in the UK to work. They achieved that in three years and all I hear is UK people moan and moan about not being able to afford a house. They moan about rental prices too. So how did a 28 year old nurse from India and her 29 year old husband who cleans up after old people in a home mange to buy a decent house in three years? They came from a small town somewhere in India. it wasn’t a 400k plus house, it was under 200k. There are many properties at that price available outside London. London is not the only area in the UK but it is often mentioned when debating about affordability in the housing market. So it is possible and this happened this year, 2024.

Even if you built on 1% of Greenbelt land you’d already provide 700k homes. Let’s build more so that the scarcity of modern houses are not treated as an expensive investment but rather a right to live in for anyone legal immigrant or not. More houses mean cheaper prices.
