I used to be team red, I remember when I would root for AMD back in 2016 with my FX 8350, hoping 1st gen ryzen would do solid. Here I am with a Ryzen 5 3600, AMD jacked up the prices on all of their crap, being greedy with their business practices and really don't care about the consumer; never thought I'd be happy to see Intel clap back at them.
Having lower profits back then, their R&D definitely was limited. You can't just ask the board for more R&D budget without seeing an increase in profit. With more command on pricing now, I hope AMD will invest it back to R&D
They are running a business. At least they don't release redundant, pointless products like Intel used to do (for more money I might add). Looking at you Kaby lake.
AMD isn't "being greedy" they have a finite number of CPU's and quite a bit of debt pay off and shareholders to appease. Intel has like 5x the mfg capacity (of just CPU's) vs AMD's entire wafer allocation @ TSMC.... The reason all their cheaper stuff is still on Zen1 and Zen+ because its made at GloFlo and AMD can still compete on price there. The Zen2 and Zen3 stuff all uses the same wafers which are already in short supply.... AMD has massive orders from big HPC and datacenter customers and cannot afford to allocate wafers to build budget CPU's which turn $0 in profit at the cost of high re-design and re-tooling costs. Budget CPU's only can break even with massive volume that AMD cannot do. The more you understand the semiconductor industry the more you understand that AMD is a victim of its own success. Not that they have gotten greedy.
oh man, think first before buying something. all those talks about crap are pointless, just check what is better price/performance and buy it. you have plenty of info with tests nowadays
In my region r5 5600x and i5 12th cost exactly same. But given the motherboard cost is higher for 12th gen, ryzen 5 is cheaper. And also we can only buy i5 12th if we're building a pc from their shop.
E sport titles like R6 seige, CS GO and Valorant are heavily l3 cache dependent. That is why the Ryzen shines here. This is the same difference seen when testing the 5600g and 5600x. It is not an 'issue' like you said The bigger cache helps AMD spread its legs here.
The i5 makes sense to new builders but for who already have the am4 motherboard ryzen still makes sense. With the 8cores the things turns in favor of Intel definitely. Lets see what amd brings with zen4 and am5.
July 2023. Just bought a used 5600X with box and cooler for 122€, shipped. The Intel 12th gen chips are very expensive, both used and new. If someone wants to build a new system, but doesn't have lot of money, then AM4 is the best option.
The competition here is good, but the reality is that the Intel motherboards are roughly double that of the AMD motherboards... meaning that you cannot build a 12400F machine for less money than a 5600x machine. Intel is A LOT harder to cool while AMD is fine with the stock cooler. Putting both under a powerful AIO gives Intel the advantage. Not an issue since you can get H610 for $80, B660 for $95, and Z690 for $180. Those are budget boards but it goes to show that LGA1700 boards arent expensive anymore, and that excuse is outdated.
Should I go for the 12400 instead of the 12400f just to be on the safer side in a scenario where the dedicated GPU just goes dead..? Would there be any difference in performance? And speaking of which, how likely are GPUs to malfunction? Do different brands of GPUs offer different durability ? Can I just go for cheaper brands like INNO3D or Galax instead of spending more on MSI or Asus for RTX 3060.
No idea if you already pulled the trigger, but the 12400f 100%, save yourself some money. GPUs really don't go wrong enough for you to overspend on a failsafe like that. The way gpu pricing works is that the cheap brands will take the basic spec from nvidia and just slap a cooler on it, whereas the main brands actually design a custom board that will generally perform much better and potentially be much cooler/quieter. It's up to you if the price difference is worth it though ofc :)

Amd is doing what Intel done some time ago. Keeping high prices basically.
That's not it, what happens is that AMD's chips are built by tsmc and with the scarcity of chips in 2020-2022 because of pandemy causes tsmc is extremely saturated, on the other hand intel has its own production plants so they can produce more chips than AMD can right now.
