@ArtyFactual_Intelligence He may get the prices wrong but I'm sure it's not lies for heavens sake. Everybody's tastes are different. If you don't like it, don't watch, it's pretty simple mate.
I work for Asda and never heard of these incredible beers until watching this video The Champ as I call it is now selling at £1.37 per 500ml bottle and £3.63 for 4 cans (330ml cans) as of today, 8th August 24. Fantastic beer, I'm stocking up while you still can! 🎉 Great video Simon, cheers 🍻
I'm not shocked at the high praise for the Feldschlösschen. I went travelling through France and Switzerland about a decade back and it was on tap everywhere I went. I lived off it while I was travelling. It's a beautiful french-brewed German style beer
Could have been the Swiss Feldschlosschen. That's a different brewery and a different beer. That Feldschlosschen in the video is Feldschlosschen of Dresden which is brewed by Champigneulles of France for UK since both breweries are part of the TCB Group. Feldschlosschen of Switzerland is part of the Carlsberg Group. The Feldschlosschen of Dresden has the kid with two beermugs on the label, the Feldschlosschen of Switzerland has a red castle on it's label.
The ASDA beers are brewed by Brasserie Champigneulles which is part of the TCB Group. TCB owns some midsize regional breweries in Germany, France and Poland most of them bought from ABInbev and Carlsberg when they wanted to get rid of them. Both Champigneulles and Feldschlosschen are regional brands and not contract brewed for ASDA. But the TCB breweries produce store brand beers, so there is really a possibility that all 4 bottles come from the same place :D
Nice one si. Bought both of these in asda last night after watching this. Champigneulles is absolutely beautiful, best beer i've had in a long while. Would never have tried it if i hadnt seen this vid but definitely something i'll be picking up regular now, only had one bottle in the shop when i went in so must be pretty popular.Feldschlosschen is excellent as well, nice one.
Fantastic review as ever. Have an unused £25 Asda voucher I was given for Xmas, that I now have a use for. So I'll be heading there tomorrow to pick up 24 bottles of the Champigneulles. Cheers Simon 🍻👍🏻
I can no longer find the website, but TCB Beverages brews all of these, mainly out of France. There used to be a website with all of their supermarket brands. Every stubbie, and almost every supermarket own brand European lager in the uk is brewed by them in the French or German site. Champigneulles and Feldschlößchen are the beers from the two main breweries they bought to brew at. It's their business model to contract large batch brewing for supermarkets own labels. Take a look at the back of the labels, these are all the same companies beer.
@@jameskrell4392 I wish I could find the list of all their beers again! They included tens to hundreds of beers for each supermarket such as M and S, because they went back in time listing them all, even different percentages and years were listed as individual productions. It's great to be making tasty beers like this at a good price and so widely available, props to them.
Feldschlößchen is my go to in Asda. I even got the four cans yesterday again (you really have to look for them) but 4 x 500ml cans for £3.75. COME ON! Brilliant stuff. The Perlennbacher is OK when it's in a can. Champigneulles is also a great beer, you just cannot go wrong with it. Why people are buying and being conned by Madri, Cruzcampo, St Miguel and others brewed in the UK I don't know. SAVE YOURSELVES SOME MONEY!
Had afew tins of that Perelman her last night from Asda after drinking pilsner urquell ,wasn’t impressed with it at all far too fizzy too much carbonation . Wars timer and budvar for the rest of the weekend it is
Champigneulles imo is one of the best standard lagers available in UK with a decent abv of 5.5%abv. Its far from the best quality but it beats the Stella, San miguel, Madri and the like every day and twice on a Sunday!
Great video again many thanks! Would you be able to try alcohol free beer to recommend the best - I have not found any I like but be great if there was something reasonable out there for eg when your the driver on a night out .
I used to drink Feldschloßen all the time but now coming back to it, I find it takes a can to adapt to the taste. Rheinbacher and Perlenbacher both taste really good from a can, very happy drinking them as they're good session beers and they don't wreck me! Definitely going to have to try the 5.5% bottle. Thanks for another great video.
Feldschlößchen is originally from Dresden, Germany. I tried it in the UK once and it was a completely different beer than the original one i had in Dresden. It's interesting to see how low the standards for lagers in the UK are to be considered good
Skunk is also a kind of weed with a high amount of THC. I know a lot of people that like Becks (in green glass bottles) because it has this weed smell.
Feldschlößchen is a Swiss beer that was also brewed in Dresden. Now it's bottled in North East France where the Saaz hops are dominant and the water softness is appropriate. The best cheap lager...by some distance.
@@ArtyFactual_Intelligence that is actually wrong. The swiss Feldschlösschen has nothing to do with the Dresden Feldschlößchen. They never belonged together and they both brew different beers for different markets. The Feldschlößchen available in the UK is a french brewed version of the Dresden Feldschlößchen beer. In this case it also just uses the name but has a different recipe with lower ABV
I'm not a lager drinker but I do like German weissbier. I happened to be in Aldi the other day and picked up a couple of bottles of their weissbier and it turned out to be rather good. Good value at only £1-50 a bottle.
Off to Asda for our next weekly shop with a large trolley, was paying £5.50 for a pint of Madri yesterday here in Brinklow , which is a little village just outside of Coventry
Thank You, ordered both the winners after watching, enjoying both of these beers right now ! Both are fantastic, with a little preference for the red labelled one. Cheers 🍻👍🧡
I popped into Aldi the other day and bought some of the Rheinbacher. In my view its better than the Perlenbacher possibly due to the brown bottle. I had some after slogging by way through a case of Madri which was 'gifted' to me. Its like night and day... A lovely lager
Here I'm Ireland, in Tesco there is a nice Budget Lager called Manislav. Brewed in Czecia too, I believe. Really tasty stuff. With MUP, it's sold at €1.98 per 500ml bottle. Not sure if it's available in the UK, it probably is though.
Manislav is brewed in Ireland by Pearse Lyons Brewery in Louth. If you've seen anything branded "Brown Bear", "Stationworks", or "Foxes Rock", that's them.
@@talideon thank you for the info! Never knew that. It's a pretty good beer. I've had a number of times when it would be like €1.20 on tesco club card.
Ive been drinking these two Asda beers consistently for 12m and they are outstanding… I had some Uk brewed generic san Miguel and Stella the other day and missed the feldschlossen so much I start with a couple of champineulles and finish with the feldschlossen which I started buying in the 500ml cans 4 for 3.75 now (saves a trip to the bottle bank) the champ is also available in 330 ml 4 packs
Great investigating as usual. I sometimes buy Feldschosschen and Champignolles but like oyu I didnt think so much of the Aldi Lidl offerings (although I try to keep a few bottles of Steinhauser in the fridge - yes, my local Aldi sells out of it quickly whenever the sun comes out).
Aye great Simon don't have a Asda in my local area need to travel for it, in which I shall do for the continuous lager beer reviews. Been drinking M&S German lager after the 👍 on that. Cheers 🍺✌️
When everyone i go to Asda i always pick up 6 bottles of each lovely beers and like you say they are always at the bottom of the shelf hidden came across these beers months ago and thought for the price I will try them never looked back absolutely love them.
I agree that the Champigneulles is the winner from this bunch, just a bit more punchy but still very smooth, I picked up a few earlier today from my local Asda while they had them in stock, as not always available. Another bargain gem of a beer worth mentioning is from Home Bargains, FICI lager which is a Tuborg beer brewed in Turkey, 5% abv, I think it could be worth a review from you if you can find some on the shelf. It's a really good beer.
Stumbled upon the feldschlossen about 6 months ago doing an online shop at Asda. Was very surprised by how good it is. It's now in my favourites list. 😂
Will have to try the Champigneulles - looks like a great deal. Can't see any mention of glucose in the ingredients like others users are saying? Ingredients are as follows: Water, barley malt, corn, hop extract, colorant: E150C.
Aldi and Lidl are budget supermarkets you get what you pay, if you want a bit more quality sometimes have to pay more.. . I would prefer the Asda lagers definitely as well.
Thanks, I am learning a lot from you. I have had tried beers like Perlenbacher and Rheinbacher before and could not quite identify why they were not right. But your descriptions of a bit skunky, or astringent, or hard water really nails it for me.
Have only recently found your channel, and have been really enjoying your honest reviews - especially your explanation of why mass produced UK beers and lagers tend to be 'skunky' or 'farty' With the weather over 32C here yesterday, I was gagging for a crisp cold🍺 But by the time I got to Asda the shelves were pretty much cleared of everything. QUESTION: For these types of lagers, is bottled significantly better than canned? Surely canning must protect it from 'light strike' ? - see I'm learning from your channel already...😂 Checking their website I noticed that the Feldschlosschen was even cheaper in 500ml cans (just £1.88/lt) - nearly half the price of many of the naff UK brewed lagers. Anyway keep up the great work - and it looks like I have hundreds of backdated videos to catch up on...👍
After watching your review I've bought some Champigneulles from ASDA and I'm converted, it's lovely stuff and great value, usual trick how they place it at floor level to make you buy the dearer brands. My go to Bargain Booze lagers, a retails chain up here in the North West of England are Krombacher at 3 x 660ml bottles for £6ish or Estrella Damm 440mm cans, 8 for £9.99. I also got some 660ml bottles of San Marcos from Aldi on your recommendation and again, fantastic. So no more Estrella or Krombacher so long as I can get to Aldi or ASDA. Cheers
They are probably all brewed by the same brewery in france (Champigneulles). Frankfurter Brauhaus (brewing the Perlenbacher for the german market, also some of the Aldi beers), Feldschlößchen, Gilde and Champigneulles all belong to the TCB brewing group.
Great video Simon. I have to say I have tried the Champignuelles and thought it was fine but nothing to get excited about. I can see I am in a minority looking at the other comments though! I will give the Feldschlößchen a go at some point.
Great video 👍 Loving the presentation - very engaging. Can I ask? What do you consider the best lagers for head retention? I hate it when the head vanishes. I find that putting a tiny drop of ice in the glass before pouring can help. The San Miguel glasses were helping for a while - but then stopped for some reason. If you could do a video on keeping a head - I’m sure many would appreciate it. Any help at all would be appreciated.
Nice to see the 2 asda lagers getting some good vibes. Both very nice and if i go there always come out with a few of both. The one with the lighter colour label also available in 330ml cans too
High there I just got polish Zywiec 500 ml bottles from Tesco here in Banbridge Northern Ireland it's imported n 5.5% abv it's a lovely beer n not uk brewed
I told you before Christmas Simon Asda was the best for beer's I travel 5 Miles every weekend to stock up rather than 1 mile down the road to tesco or Aldi
Just had the Rheinbacher from Aldi and it wasn't clear like the bottle you had. It was very cloudy like a hazey ipa. You couldn't see through the glass even after it had settled like you could with yours. Didn't taste bad though. Would agree with the Champigneulles from Asda though. A steal for £1.20 a bottle.
When in England, I usually buy few bottles to drink in my hotel, often Czech Bud from Lidl but will definitely try this Asda beer now - Živjeli momci 🍺 Edit Feldschlößen is incredible ❤
Off to Aldi this morning, hoping to pick up some of the San Miguel dupes...and one other that I picked up last time that was OK too, can't remember which one for the life of me.... had a blue Label maybe? DOWN with "Farty Beer".... 😉
When I saw Simon's review on the imitation San Miguel, I went out and bought half a dozen. Not a great deal of flavour but goes down a treat! Will be going back tonight to get some more...along with a keg of Budweiser Budvar, if there's any left, after they reduced it to £12!
Awesome vid, wish I could find these over here across the pond. Some of the common lagers that I go for that they carry here are Yuengling, Fosters, Landshark and of course Peroni. To be honest the really big new thing in New Jersey and also Vermont is all these small craft breweries opening up. Some of which opened up 5-10 years ago and now they are massive. One is Kane Brewery in Ocean Township New Jersey. If you can get something from them I highly recommend em. Not a fan of IPAs by any means but Kane has a few of em. They make everything tho. Same with Fiddlehead in Vermont.
Commenting before watching so not sure if it gets mentioned, but i tried the lidl imported Staropramen off the back of your previous video and it was unreal. Just realised you're looking at the budget beers, not just the budget supermarkets
Love these comparison videos always good watching a head to head. Quick question what would you rate as the best larger that is easily accessible in the uk??
Bitburger is a recommendation I would make sometimes the 4 pack cans are on offer in Waitrose. One of my favourites that one but can't ever seem to find the bottled version some say is better.
It's good to see Asda getting these imports in and matching Aldi and Lidl on price.....for a few quick beers, there's enough options now to avoid the UK brewed lager.... Also Lidl currently have Budvar black lager in, it's delicious a 10
Another good video Simon and I agree with your order of ratings. However, are you sure that the Aldi and Lidl ones are 6 for under £6 as this would surely break the Welsh minimum pricing laws ? And I think the 2 Asda ones are slightly dearer than £1.10 and £1.20? All still fantastic value tho I agree….and any chance of reviewing Wrexham lager, Wrexham Pilsner , Wrexham Export or even better all 3 against each other please?
The red label beer is from Dresden. Feldschlößchen I had that on a trip in Germany. Had that near the Blue wonder bridge in Dresden, Very good on tap. Massive glass in Germany ! 🇩🇪 It's the main brand in the city. Advertising on the main train station. Top class every restaurant and bar has it on tap.
@mackemsruleFTM it's a Swiss owned brewery my research shows. But you see the labels of that beer actually has Dresden listed. I suggest that the Swiss brewery borders with Germany. Chose Dresden as their target city for marketing?
@@HistoryNiche I've been drinking this for as long as I can remember and I know it was brewed in France but I have 4 cans here and it does say Dresdon, not 100% but I'm sure it used to be stronger than 4.5% as well lol
the aldi german beer is £1.45 in Scotland. we put the prices up to make the drinkers spend more on alcohol and less on vegetables. it is working as alcohol deaths are up and in fact at a 15 year high!
it's not a lager but tesco recently started selling a golden ale called "Fuller's griffin gold" (3.4%) for a quid, quite floral and refreshing... don't think i'd want to drink them all night because i'd be pissing every 2 minutes but not bad at all
Was never struck by those Lidl/Aldi lagers, Okay but nothing more. Will have to try the others and compare them against Paulaner which is my current favourite supermarket beer though it is more expensive.
Simon, looking forward to your review of the remade Steinhauser that was out of stock for a while. Is it the same as it was? I’ve mentioned this before but I didn’t think it tasted as good
feldschlosschen is a german beer from dresden but brewed under licence by a french industrial brewery for export markets, so a bit like the fake spanish stuff brewed in the uk
Hey I dont know if its the same where you are but my local Lidl have introduced their own German Wheat Beer called Patronus... See if you can get hold of some!

check that bar code on the label starts with 300 it is from France
They are probably all brewed by the same brewery in france (Champigneulles). Frankfurter Brauhaus (brewing the Perlenbacher for the german market, also some of the Aldi beers), Feldschlößchen, Gilde and Champigneulles all belong to the TCB brewing group.
Another fantastic review every day is a school day watching your in depth analysis of these beers keep them coming 🍺🍺🍺
Accuracy and pricing totally lacking though.
I drink feldschlobchen every week it my go to gaming beer and at £1.10 I clear the shelf every week in my local asda😂😂
I love these videos cheers happy friday
Love that Moor beer glass!!!
Another great review!!! Love this channel
My usual go to is the Lidl Pilsner. Haven’t found anything better than that at the price. Looks like I’ll be beer hunting in Asda now 👍🏻
Great review - will look out for both in Asda
I told you before Christmas Simon Asda was the best for beer's I travel 5 Miles every weekend to stock up rather than 1 mile down the road to tesco or Aldi
Why not just buy a month’s worth in one go?
@@ProTroll_UK the more I buy the more I drink 😂😂😂so just get my weekend stash 👍
Nice review. I'm going to look for those Asda lagers.
You picked up their Weiss beer not the larger
Great battle of the budget beers👍🍺, going on a family jolly next week I think a trip to asda is needed to survive it😂😂
It was your channel that put me onto the Asda beers, and I work for Asda!
Good feature: fwiw Ive never liked Aldi rheinbacher, but i gotta try that asda stuff. Cheers 🍺
I thought the Champignuelles was absolutely bang on.
When in England, I usually buy few bottles to drink in my hotel, often Czech Bud from Lidl but will definitely try this Asda beer now - Živjeli momci 🍺
Edit Feldschlößen is incredible ❤
Off to Aldi this morning, hoping to pick up some of the San Miguel dupes...and one other that I picked up last time that was OK too, can't remember which one for the life of me.... had a blue Label maybe?
DOWN with "Farty Beer".... 😉
San Marcos
When I saw Simon's review on the imitation San Miguel, I went out and bought half a dozen. Not a great deal of flavour but goes down a treat! Will be going back tonight to get some more...along with a keg of Budweiser Budvar, if there's any left, after they reduced it to £12!
Great review! Love your channel 🍻
P.S....new you'd pick the French one I love it 👌
Have y'all tried the French "Brasserie" from ALDI very budget and quite tasty! I love watching your vids buddy, keep it up 😀
Awesome vid, wish I could find these over here across the pond.
Fab video and info, thanks! By the way, number 3 is pronounced Felt-shloos-shen! I loved your brave attempt though.
Commenting before watching so not sure if it gets mentioned, but i tried the lidl imported Staropramen off the back of your previous video and it was unreal.
Just realised you're looking at the budget beers, not just the budget supermarkets
I did the same, it was great stuff. Just got a keg of Perlenbacher from Lidl for a try.
Just been to asda today (saturday) got 2 of each in fridge ready for tonight cheers
Stop wasting time.
15 mins in freezer does the job.
Yes same here, well one of each, and then I saw this video. Seems it's a good choice.
I’ve never been into our nearby Asda - I’m either at Sainsbury’s or LIDL. But I’m definitely on my way ASAP.
I popped into ASDA today to try some Champigneulles. It’s actually rather lovely but bloody hell, ASDA is grim. Don’t think I’ll be going back 🤣
It's good to see Asda getting these imports in and matching Aldi and Lidl on price.....for a few quick beers, there's enough options now to avoid the UK brewed lager....
It actually says Dresden on the label. Not French at all but maybe their operations moved their.
Google search - dresden train station feldschlösschen. Then look on Google images
Unless they moved it back the feldshloben is brewed in France, at least the can versions are
@mackemsruleFTM it's a Swiss owned brewery my research shows.
I've only had both in cans not bottles but personally I found the Feldschlosschen to be pretty bad but the Champignuelles is brilliant
the aldi german beer is £1.45 in Scotland.
we put the prices up to make the drinkers spend more on alcohol and less on vegetables.
it is working as alcohol deaths are up and in fact at a 15 year high!
Been drinking the champigneulles for ages or Champaign as my wife calls it lol. 4x330ml cans for £3.66ish is a bargain!
Rheinbacher pils still 4.9 percent in the bottle here in Ireland.. Cans 4.5..the bottles are a firm fav
Great video, thanks.
it's not a lager but tesco recently started selling a golden ale called "Fuller's griffin gold" (3.4%) for a quid, quite floral and refreshing... don't think i'd want to drink them all night because i'd be pissing every 2 minutes but not bad at all
Happened to be near the local Asda this evening so bought a Champigneulles: nice stuff, not a 9/10 on taste but really really good value
I’ve mentioned this before but I didn’t think it tasted as good
Simon, I really like your selection of German stein glasses. Which one do you think is the best & where's best to get it?
Hofmeister glass is my favourite of the 4
feldschlosschen is a german beer from dresden but brewed under licence by a french industrial brewery for export markets, so a bit like the fake spanish stuff brewed in the uk
How do you get "Flengelofflen" from Feldschlößchen?
Hey I dont know if its the same where you are but my local Lidl have introduced their own German Wheat Beer called Patronus... See if you can get hold of some!
Looks like I'll be making a stop at Asda
Peppery on the back end eh? I might be mixing this one up with the ghost chilli nut challenge...
I'm off to buy some, All of A Sudden!
Lookin fresh btw with the haircut mate🥹 not been on the channel in a while so all i remember is you havin longer hair lol🤭
I just got some Victoria Malaga from lidl , its there imported Spanish beer. Its fantastic . You should try it.
Truly doing God's work.
