York is home to many historic, unique and wonderful things. Now it can lay claim to the world’s fastest pub review, the York Tap, done in 12 seconds. Fantastic work Simon, giving us the content we love.
Awesome seeing all these beautiful pubs, could have pints for days! The two knobs at the end LOL, some dude that thinks you're crashing into his world.
Wow, I've lived in York all my life and never heard of the "widow's perch"! Respect to John for all the work he's done to keep this gem of a pub running. I must visit more often!
The Blue Bell is amazing. The best pub I've been in, bar none. The back bar is so friendly (you meet interesting people from all over the world in there and always end up in a conversation) and John (Pybus) is an amazing landlord who loves the history of his pub (he was a student of mine many years ago), and the staff are brilliant. He's like that all the time - to everyone, not just youtubers. Shannon - the lady behind the bar in the video - always makes you feel like you are the customer they've been waiting for all day. The Blue Bell IPA is the pint by which I judge all others. The pub has rules (no big groups, no kids, no swearing, mobiles to be used outside) which is why it is such a nice environment.
Great vid. These town, breweries and pub posts are my favourites. I live in Australia now but last year visited the UK and went to Swindon and Tenby as a result of watching your reviews. Had a great time in both. Visiting again this year so will make the time to visit the pubs of York!😊
I returned home to Bristol this afternoon after spending 5 nights in York, visiting several of the pubs you mention- what a fabulous city York is! It was good to meet you just after the 29.47 mark!
Hi Simon. I love your videos. Next time you visit York give the Golden Fleece a visit. If you come out at the bottom end of The Shambles, it is directly across the road. It claims to be York's most haunted pub. It has a skeleton at the bar in the back, and they sell a lovely pint of Theakston's Old Peculier on draught (which is a completely different drink to the bottled version!). It's a lovely pub and does great "pub-grub". Of course, York is all about History, Dick Turpin, and Ghosts. Please give this pub a try next time you are in York. I promise you won't regret it. I could happily live in that pub lol. Best Wishes!
Live in York many of my faves. Top tip look in this years camra guide and find five really good pubs tucked away that without the guide you would miss. Maybe do a second trip
Great stuff that mate. Love York and was great to see a lot of the places again that we visited and quite a few we didn't. Need to go back now. Cheers 🍻
What a great video you've made here. Absolutely loved watching the bit on the Blue Bell. Been in there a few times and had no idea about all that history !! Amazing. What a shame the miserable staff/manager or whoever in the Kings Arms wouldn't let you film - they've just made sure I don't want to go in there again yet I'll visit the Blue Bell every time. Seen other bars we've never been in but will definitely visit now - The Cat and Owl being one of them. We visit York twice every single year and have done so for 27 years. Great video X
Thanks so much for this, fantastic to be momentarily transported back to our favourite city. Trembling Madness is so good, it was great to also see some places we’ve never been to before. Looking forward to coming up in September for our son’s wedding!
I love York not far over the Humber bridge for me. I purchased my first pair of Oakleys from York ( I now have a collection ) trembling madness absolutely INCREDIBLE! Fantastic. Loved the blue bell what a passionate landlord watched that separate vid also. I’m also a BIG fan of Rob 👍what a bunch of muppets in the background complaining pleased you left that in ( hope they see this and see what a bunch of muppets they looked like 🤣 ) great effort put into a video like this and I really appreciate it cheers 👍🍻
Loved Trembling Madness when I visited York. Terrific pubs. Went to both locations. Very unique. Can tell you and Hopzine were more than a few beers in lol! But seeing all these other cracking little pubs makes me want to go back so badly.
Yeah, I drink beer mostly. Hah, you zoomed right in on that Paulaner. That's is right up my alley. But next time I get to England, I will do the pub hop and give the others a try. I know I will find my favorites. I'm a fan of stouts as well. Ha, at that flood level sign there should be an alcohol level sign.
Absolutely love York as a city for beer. Some fantastic old pubs and a great selection of beers if you look in the right places. I accidentally stumbled into the Blue Bell a good few years ago expecting a standard real ale type pub but never expected the history and story behind it. Also York's smallest public house. Had the history story from John as well who really is passionate about it and a great guy! Can't go wrong with a pint of Farmer's Blonde either 😉
I'm always going to york for day of pub crawling. Brew york beer hall is a favourite. They do have seating on the 3rd floor of the market kat by the way. One of the best views in york 👌
Thank you for this. Spent so many days / nights in many of these pubs as a student in the late 90s, and have spent many times since in the new pubs - Pivni, Fossgate Tap, Market Cat. You missed The Three-Legged Mare near the Minster though, with its gallows in the beer garden.
Luckily, I don’t live too far away from York, but even I’ve learned a lot from this video. Love visiting Trembling Madness-I’m like a kid in a sweet shop! Can’t wait for my next York pub crawl in May.
Nice one Simon, when I go into York, it's a few Weinstephaner in the York Tap, then over to the Pavement Vaults for another Weinstephaner, top drink, then House of Trembling Madness for a bottle of Weinstephaner. Great video.
Great video Simon. Usually only have a bit of time in York when I’m there with the family shopping and head to The Trembling Madness. Will try a few others now thanks to your video.
Simon, I'm gutted I didn't get the chance to meet you, as I'm a huge fan and I'm based in York. I went to the brewery bash on the Friday instead. York really is a remarkable place for beer. In terms of the range of beers you'll find and overall quality, there's nowhere better really. There are very few pubs in the City which don't serve fantastic beer. Once again though, I'm gutted I didn't get a chance to meet you, as I'm a huge fan.
I grew up in york it was my stomping ground a few of the pubs have different names but still the same shell its a hell of a place. Although when you are 18 the only place to be was the willow chinese disco which closed down so i imagine living there as a young lad has lost somewhat of its spark hahaha. Amazing for a day drinking session once you get past 30 years old though
The Bluebell reminds my of a pub in Worcester called The Cardinals Hat. Ran by the same chap that runs my local, The fleece Inn, Bretforton. The Fleece has won numbers CAMRA awards, and has had numerous famous visitors *Including Robert Plant and Taylor Swift* It also has Warsteiner on draft! Highly recommend both to anyone visiting south Worcestershire
at 1:30:00 the bald bloke seemed quite reasonable but the other bloke sat next to him in background clearly has some issues. Seems like the type of bloke that'd try square up to you and wind his neck in once you stand up.
used to go to York a lot and love the pubs there, you should of tried a John Smiths Cask in the three Cranes, so smooth, much better than that keg bollocks....York pubs and the City itself reminds me a lot of the London Manors, the History between London, Lincoln and York have a lot of connections.....loving it, drinking Heineken Original whilst watching, very Malty, nice Hop finish...
I went to York on my mates stag do a long time ago, and thinking about it i think i went to the Blue bell, it was rammed to feck, was swimming to get the bar.. ha
1:14:26 Wow..what a view. What a great place to drink a pint or 2....or 10, probably imaging I'm a medieval knight. I'm Dutch so after 15 pints I probably think I'm William of Orange, William III of England himself haha😉 🍻🍺Cheers! 🍺🍻
I remember telling you a couple of years ago on one of your lives that i was going from Scotland to York on a beer run, and what a place went to brew York and northern monk but that trembling madness shop is something else must have spent a good half hour deciding what to get
They were both utter twats. The guy with hair at 1:30:35 and after was making stupid gestures and getting all abusive. Going to a packed pub on a Sat night ("we're trying to have a quiet dinner" lol), you're out in public, everyone is having a good time, and you get all stroppy and abusive over some people making a TH-cam vid that has nothing to do with you. Wonder what they were hiding? Secret affair behind their misses' backs?
Baldy and his boyfriend were definitely acting sus. I'll tell you one thing,if you go around with that stinking odd ball attitude, someone will match it eventually and go hands on. Pair of entitled fairy's.
He didn't ask them if they minded be filmed in the background so they have every right to say what are you doing? It's a public place not their personal studio? If they had simply asked beforehand it wouldn't have been an issue, he managed it through the rest of the video asking with people working in the pubs so why is it not afforded to others in the pub? Drunken entitlement here clearly.
Brilliant vlog, love the guy at the end giving you the bird x 2, followed by his baldy boyfriend asking you to stop filming as they want to be private🤣🤣🤣 Well done 👍💪OOOOhhhhh rub his arm 😂😂😂😂
Most of the pubs which are lovely old buildings with a lot of character are usually let down by a poor beer selection, for example the lowther, the usual strongbow, Guinness, Cruzcampo, Birra Moretti, John Smiths etc. I believe this is to do with contracts they have with the brewery is this correct?
Hi Simon, just drank a few Pilsners while watching your Bristol adventure. You are a legend! You must have burned around 3000 calories walking around in Bristol that day. Thank you so much for your videozq!
That guy in the Blue Bell was great
I love these videos Simon! The owner of the Blue Bell seems like such a great guy. Cheers!
York is home to many historic, unique and wonderful things.
Now it can lay claim to the world’s fastest pub review, the York Tap, done in 12 seconds.
Fantastic work Simon, giving us the content we love.
That last ten minutes was incredible 😂😂😂
One of the greatest cities in the UK, went for the first time 2 years ago, lovely place
Awesome seeing all these beautiful pubs, could have pints for days! The two knobs at the end LOL, some dude that thinks you're crashing into his world.
WHAT a pair or idiots behind you. They don't want to be filmed, but they made every effort to be noticed. Fab video. Need a part two!
Wow the Bluebell pub is steeped in history! The landlord is like a Historian, so interesting, I'll be on my way there next time I'm in York. Cheers
Wow, I've lived in York all my life and never heard of the "widow's perch"!
Respect to John for all the work he's done to keep this gem of a pub running. I must visit more often!
🍺 a beer finally at 28 mins. Refreshing
Wonderful documentary ...Love this bit of history.
The Blue Bell is amazing. The best pub I've been in, bar none. Absolutely bloody loved this Simon. Stone the Crows!!
Love York. I visit every year. One of the best pub crawls on earth. 🍻 Salute
I'm lucky York is only a 45min drive away. Beautiful picturesque city and some of the finest pubs in the country.
I love these types of videos.
I’m really enjoying these vids sim of all the old pubs 👍👍👍🍺🍺🍺
I’m glad you found Pivni. I am from York and spent an amazing afternoon in there last month (June 2024). They have a lovely range of beers.
Looking forward to watching this when I get home ... this type of content is great for those of us who travel infrequently.
Great vid. These town, breweries and pub posts are my favourites. I live in Australia now but last year visited the UK and went to Swindon and Tenby as a result of watching your reviews. Had a great time in both. Visiting again this year so will make the time to visit the pubs of York!😊
Great to see you and rob together you bounce off each other 🍺🍺🍺
One of my favourite places to go drinking. Love it, and they have BrewYork - awesome!!!
Absolutely loved this Si! Deffo recommend getting a standalone clip on microphone for the louder environments and you’re speaking to people
I returned home to Bristol this afternoon after spending 5 nights in York, visiting several of the pubs you mention- what a fabulous city York is! It was good to meet you just after the 29.47 mark!
These long vids are the best, and the ending was hilarious😂
That Bluebell is sop interesting....I'm gonna get a pint there. Round of applause to John.
REALLY enjoyed this. Would love to see a part 2 of York
What a great video and the history of this pub is so interesting .
Great reminder of a wonderful weekend in York. Pivni was one of our favourites. So many excellent pubs in York
The steadyness of the GoPro is quality. Great video as always.
Thanks for the tour. I almost feel I've been there. Now I know where to go. Cheers!

Beautiful city York. Great job Simon 👍
love York, Going again in July....Great video Simon
I'm a huge fan of York, I try and get there at least once a year, The Maltings is probably my favourite pub.
Live in York many of my faves. Top tip look in this years camra guide and find five really good pubs tucked away that without the guide you would miss. Maybe do a second trip

I’m a fairly regular visitor to York and have been in most of the pubs in the video, hopefully will be going again before year end…
The Exhibition on Boothham is a little gem aswell ✨️
Thanks so much for this, fantastic to be momentarily transported back to our favourite city. Trembling Madness is so good, it was great to also see some places we’ve never been to before. Looking forward to coming up in September for our son’s wedding!
Pivni is my favourite pub when I visit York :)
Visited York a few months back and went into valhalla, really cool pub which did budvar on draft which made it even better👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼🍺🍺🍺

Yeah, I will be watching until my drunken face appears. Sunday was a complete write-off.
Yeah, I drink beer mostly. Hah, you zoomed right in on that Paulaner. That's is right up my alley. But next time I get to England, I will do the pub hop and give the others a try. LOL...A church pub. How inviting. I'd be there 5 days a week. Hallelujah
Great video Simon. Some cracking pubs in York. A must visit location. 👍

What a cracking video Si, back on form mate, with this out and about bars video, really good 🍺👍🙂

My favourite pub the three cranes
Thank you so much for this tour video! I've been to York but I definitely will return for the Blue Bell next time. The story was fascinating!
Awesome video Simon! Love these videos! 🍻

This was fantastic! Cheers.
When you were here I was in Durham. Beautiful weather
19:07 you walked passed the GOlden Fleece, another great pub in York.
Fantastic, what an interesting video 👍🏼

York is firmly on my hit list so I'll look forward to this.

The river Seine is beautiful
Fantastic video Si, I adore York. I stayed at the Hilton Hotel opposite Clifford Tower.
I grew up in york it was my stomping ground a few of the pubs have different names but still the same shell its a hell of a place. That tall chimney you saw from Clifford’s tower is from an old rubbish furnace. It was painted camouflaged in the war!
Them 2 wasn't very happy you filming them in the background 😂😂
Ironic thing is that none of us even registered that they were there until they started acting like weapons.
at 1:30:00 the bald bloke seemed quite reasonable but the other bloke sat next to him in background clearly has some issues. Seems like the type of bloke that'd try square up to you and wind his neck in once you stand up.

we will deffo go for a pint and see john in the blue bell
Gah! I can't believe you walked right past the Shambles pub! It was dead opposite the Ghost shop and it's one of the best little pubs in the city!
Ayyy! I’ve been waiting for one of these. Well done Simon!
1:14:26 Wow..what a view. What a great place to drink a pint or 2....or 10, probably imaging I'm a medieval knight. I'm Dutch so after 15 pints I probably think I'm William of Orange, William III of England himself haha😉 🍻🍺Cheers! 🍺🍻
Thanks for this video Simon. I'm off to York as part of my hols this June so great timing 👍🏻
28 mins and a pint ! 🎉🎉🎉
Great video, these are the best. We enjoy seeing you smashed outside the kitchen 😂
I remember telling you a couple of years ago on one of your lives that i was going from Scotland to York on a beer run, and what a place went to brew York and northern monk but that trembling madness shop is something else must have spent a good half hour deciding what to get
Great work Simon
I think that’s actually a medieval car park Simon. For medieval cars. But then I’m on my fifth pint on a Thursday night. Good video mate
Great vlog as always mate! Clearly that weapon behind you in the pub couldn't handle his drink....
Nice video. The picture is super crisp
Great vid 👍
Bloody love the House of Trembling Madness on Lendal. One of the best pubs in the country I’d say. Shame about baldy getting all uppity 😂
The baldy fella was a right twonk.
Same! Best venue in York, although Valhalla is cracking too👌
Baldy and his boyfriend were definitely acting sus. I'll tell you one thing,if you go around with that stinking odd ball attitude, someone will match it eventually and go hands on. Pair of entitled fairy's.

Simon, It's jealousy to be frank about it. Fancy a good few of the Pubs you were in.
Regards
Brilliant vlog, love the guy at the end giving you the bird x 2, followed by his baldy boyfriend asking you to stop filming as they want to be private🤣🤣🤣 Well done 👍💪OOOOhhhhh rub his arm 😂😂😂😂
i bought a naga chilli plant from that market , had to carry it back home carefully to shropshire
Great video mate 👍
That bloke in the background is an absolute chopper.

That was great Si!!!!!
P!ease make this into a series! Visit Bristol next. The history runs deep within the pubs in Brizzle.
Bristol is done, Cardiff, Newport, Bath, Swindon, St David’s, Barry, Bergen (Norway) and Prague. Take a look at them 👍👍🍺🍺
Hi Simon, just drank a few Pilsners while watching your Bristol adventure. You are a legend! You must have burned around 3000 calories walking around in Bristol that day. Thank you so much for your videozq!
I would have been hammered by half way through the video - pint in every pub
Loved to have met up with you😮
Absolutely brilliant content, I hope whilst you're up here you do the same for Leeds!
The Yates pub garden area is actually a grave yard, that's why the flag stones were out down
Ackhorne, Golden Ball and The Swan. That is all 🍻
...and The Slip Inn.
