Summary:
Rain and inclement weather is preceded by a change in barometric (atmospheric) pressure. Air escapes from high pressure areas to low pressure areas. Fish can sense the pressure and during high pressure their willingness to eat is low because the high pressure adversely affects their metabolism and bowels. During low pressure or dropping pressure they begin to feed more aggressively preparing for another stall in ample feeding time, kind of like when you go to the store to stock up before a storm.

Rain, think of it like a fresh water fountain in a pond (except bigger). Fish love it as a new, fresh supply of oxygen and the rain's action on the water also stirs up food sources that nomally sink lower in the water colums when the waters are calm. That's why the topwater bite and bottom bites get so good during those rain times. Fish love the rain, and hate the lightning. They will seek heavy cover during lightning. That's what they taught us in my many Science courses as a Science Major in college back in the day (😀).

Don't down the dinks. Little bass operate like their bigger buds. Nothing wrong learning with the basics. Although, a serious PB is nice on a mondo worm.

Rain also causes bait to wash into the pond or it to get knocked out of the sky. It drives bass to start feeding both up too and below
Also creeks that lead into ponds are major hot spots after the rain. No matter how small the creek is. Once that water starts flowing into the pond fish will stack up there to eat whats getting flushed from the creek into the pond. You can just stand there and nail them back to back. Almost pulling them out on every cast. Kinda not fair but i dont care. I have fun catching fish. And if i find a cheat code you better believe im gonna use it. And its normally topwater that there smashing which makes it extra fun

Some of the apps I use to check weather for fishing have pressure readings. When I moved to Texas a lady that worked here told me not to fish if the cows were laying down, I thought she was crazy and after noticing that fishing was boo boo when they were laying down I researched it. Turns out they will lay down when storms are approaching or pressure is rising. SOOOOO I started looking into pressure and fishing and sure enough when that pressure is rising or high the bass fish shut down!! Now it's a good excuse when I don't catch!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA
Wow....I'm 42 years old and my daddy use to say this and I thought it was just some lore.....after all these years, I finally find out that it is true.
Its not just cows. But in texas i guess that would be the most noticeable animal to gauge off of. But its actually all of nature. Even us, or domestic dogs and cats. If you have a dog and he/ she starts getting really playful that would tell you that the barometric pressure and time of day is a good time to go fishing. The barometric pressure affects the way we feel also. You know those days you just wake up feeling extra groggy? Thats because of barometric pressure. So if you pay attention to the barometric pressure and the major/ minor feeding times for a given day your much more likely to have a successful day fishing. When your out of those time zones your basically depending on a reaction strike. Theyll still eat if it comes to them, but they wont be aggressively looking to eat. Make sense? Just like we have our meal times when were hungry and could go for a snack in between those times

Yes there are apps that give you barometric pressure in you area. My wife hates when I say it is peek time.
My grandpa tell me all the time when it rains fish get turned on bc its bring food from land , like when I fish in the rains its a sprinkle of rain and I use a frog under trees because bassbeat killing frogs that be dropping into the river
