    This B25 starred in two big movies:
    Catch 22(1970) flown as "aBominable Snowman".
    Hanover Street(1987)flown as as "Marvellous Miriam".

    How exciting. My father flew B-25’s during WWII. He was an Instructor / Pilot. He said he trained hundreds of young men(like himself) in various models. He remained in the (now) Air Force after the war. My earliest memories were of him on the military base preparing a B-25 for flight.

      I can't imagine the feeling the crews had when thy flew off that carrier toward Japan. They knew their chance of survival was slim to none.Hats off to your Dad.

    What a massive difference between the inside guts and the paint job on the outside of the B 25. I think I’m getting the the concept of static display v/s taxiing condition v/s flight ready (when the insides look as good as the outside ie. - Just Jane). Thanks Neville! Great stuff!

    I'm sure 44-29366 was one of the five B25s flown over from the USA for the 1979 film "Hanover Street". The flight was documented in a Channel 4 programme "B-25s Do Fly in IMC", copies of which can be found on DVD. This aircraft was flown over as "Always Dangerous" and appeared in the film as "Marvellous Miriam"

    • @colinbarron4

      According to 'Flying Film Stars' book this B25 did indeed fly in 'Hanover Street' as 'Marvellous Miriam'. It as then used as a static prop in 'Eye of the Needle'. By that time it was owned by Wardbirds of Great Britain at Blackbushe. It then went to the RAF Museum. However, according to 'Flying Film Stars' the No is 151863 or N9115Z.

      B-25s, as well as being good bombers, turned out to be fantastic utility aircraft for the USAF to fly goods and personal between air force bases in post war service.
      They were easy to fly, had a respectable payload, rugged, reliable, cheap to operate and cheap to maintain.
      That's why there is a comparatively large number of B-25s still around.

    So much potential for this warrior awaiting what I hope is not just a 'Static Display' but actually back into flying condition, just as it came off the assembly line. We have lost so many opportunities to provide not a replica, but what the US gave to the airmen who took it to war. We have just seen the video of the destruction of one of the last flying B-29's in an accident. That was truly a loss to aviation history. The arrival of this aircraft is monumental and we really don't need to have another wasted display. That is what pictures and videos are for. The crewmen who flew these ships want to see and show their families their part of history. I look at it as taking a rusted old car from the scrap yard, pounding out the dents, painting it, just to saw this is what it looked like, not how it came to the dealer to be purchased. Fully operational and the beauty of the time.

    Hey imagine if East Kirkby could become a world centre of excellence for aviation restoration… I wonder if there is much infrastructure left… imagine if they had one or 2 more hangars and could resurface that main runway and imagine aircraft coming and going again especially when Just Jane is ready to fly… I wonder if they will have to dismantle her and ship her by road to somewhere like Conningsby in order to complete her flight trials?

  • @buffplums
    @buffplums ปีที่แล้ว +1

    They are certainly going to need more hangars…. I wonder if Andrew would consider giving up the farming and maybe dismantle the chicken houses and another Hangar maybe? Ideally on the site of a former hangar ?

    Neville, the centre is now getting a very nice collection of aircraft. The B 25 and the Bristol Blenheim are obviously going to be restored eventually to taxing condition, but where are they going to store these aircraft, is the centre going to build a new hanger? The restoration of Just Jane is going to take up the bulk of the hanger space! Also, I've also noticed in the Rivet Club emails there is a photo of a Dakota positioned behind the Lancaster, what happened to this aircraft? Finally, how much of the Vickers Wellington do they have, is that a candidate for restoration?

    • @davidmartyn5044
      @davidmartyn5044 ปีที่แล้ว

      I seen nothing of a Wellington in all of Neville's videos, but there is a HP Hampden in one of the smaller hangers who`s restoration is on hold ATM. It does feature in some of Neville's earlier vids.
