I think you are performing a very valuable piece of historical recording. In 25years' time when our grandchildren start to refurbish this wonderful plane again they will have a wonderful set of references films. I hope that they are securily backed up and stored in a safe secure location.

Hi Paul, I ask Bob how long working time do they have with the bolts at -50C answer about 20 seconds. So as long as everything is ready and in line it doesn't give you any advantage.

Thanks Neville. Really good to see the French wing being fitted to Just Jane. The guys did an amazing job yet again. Professional as ever. Good to see Daves running model of the lancaster. Well done to him for entering the 10k marathon especially carrying the model with him as well. Even when you have the right pieces of kit (The Manchester Beam) it is still a bit of a challenge to get all bolts in and tight. Slow but steady progress to getting her ready to fly.

Commenting as an interested ex-RAF member living in N. America, I see reference here to three different Lancaster’s namely, NX611; NX664 & NX661 . . . Are all three going to be returned to flying status? We have one in Ontario, Canada that is flying, I live in British Columbia & I understand another is being worked on in Victoria on Vancouver Island, with the intention of bringing it back to flying condition.
I’m now in my 92nd year so I doubt very much I will be around to see it fly. Pity!
I joined the RAF in England in Dec 1957 . . . I started “boot camp” in January 1958 & signed on for five years as an MTDM/Heavy Duty. I was assigned to ‘crash recovery’. . . My first posting was to StEval, near Newquay in Cornwall. Being a Coastal Command base, there were three squadrons of Lancasters’ based there so I’ve seen my share of ‘Lancs’ on the ground, in the air and places they were never meant to be. They were a great ‘plane & I would love to hear the sound of those four Merlin’s growl once more. Yes, it’s an awesome sound one never really forgets such as back in ‘86 when the one from Ontario visited Vancouver. The approach path was westward, to the north of my home. It was a beautiful, clear, sunny day. I was sitting in my kitchen enjoying a morning coffee when all of a sudden, I heard THAT SOUND. I rushed out onto my sun deck (on the upper floor) & directed my sight to the north in time to watch a Lancaster flying along the North Shore mountains toward Vancouver. What an awesome sight. But it was the SOUND that brought it to my attention.
Of course, they were about to phase out the Lancaster for other types, the first being a U.S. built twin engine plane that didn’t seem to be permanent. It was quickly replaced by the Avro Shackleton, sometimes referred to as “30,000 rivets flying in formation”. I understand when that plane ended its service life, they were all destroyed. But not quite. there is one at an aircraft museum in a place referred to as “The Boneyard” in Tucson, Arizona. I was visiting that facility some years ago & was very surprised to see it there, all painted up and ready to fly. It has to be in flying condition because it was originally flown to that facility & has probably not moved since. Other than that one, there’s a possibility N.Z. Or Australia might have some. I’m not sure.
Too bad you couldn't discuss the problem in the quiet, I couldn't make out the problem with my American ears!

@@nevillewheeldon1693 That place sounds like the steel fabrication plant I worked for many years! I know your problem only too well!I was mostly just teasing anyway. I enjoy your coverage. When I was coming home from Alberta, after attending my wife's family reunion, I came up around a corner in the highway, and there was a Canadian Lancaster siting there just bold as you please. No way could I get inside, but I wanted too! This was back in the 80's.

I ran 10K a few weeks ago. It was bad enough with a phone, let alone a Lancaster!
A quick question on the B-25, is it in flying condition and if not, is it to be restored to flying condition?
No it's not. It will however be brought up to be able to taxi.
May be taxiing this year,but will be restored to flying condition. I would think this will happen after the Lancaster is airworthy

So, Lincolnshire performed a huge service returning the NX664 “French” wing to near-serviceable condition, from the as-received near-wreck condition. So this begs the question, of when the time comes, how will the “new” parts of NX664 be returned to the French museum to arrive in the same pristine condition as Lincolnshire achieved ?
FANTASTIC recording of an amazing operation - moving and refitting a wing. Like all great achievements in the physical world, with the right tools, we can move mountains. Thank you.
The guys are making one and most of another airworthy Lancaster and jigs for more. I hope the French crew follow through.

I remember a while back someone said your not to pound on the bolts. That they would just slide in easily and here you all hammering on the bolts. I had made comment saying for you all to freeze the bolts which shrinks them.
Someone said, yep sounds like we can trust that 😂😂😂😂
I had a word with the Chief Engineer, the working time is very short when freezing the bolts so every thing must be in perfect alignment for this method to work. When working on restoration this is hard to achieve. But they did try this method . Thanks for your comments.

Quite a coincidence to fit the wing on leap year day. Let’s hope it’s not another 4 years before she’s airworthy.
The project is only half way through the ten year plan,another five years should see her air worthy all being well.
Hi PTTC, like most project time and cost rise.they have changed the way they are going about the restoration with using dona parts. What I see and hear everything is to the good, may take more time and money but a great end to the project. Cheers mate.

Hi GG1, sorry a bit misleading calling it the french wing the Lancaster were all made in Britain .( Canada made about 700 as well)The French bought Lancaster after the War to use on their maritime service this one had crashed about 70 years ago.The Centre has restored the wing, they will use it for about two years on Centres Lancaster "Just Jane"while they restore their own,. then will return it to the French free of charge. A good deal for both sides.

When I worked for a company that joined large beams together to make complex structures, the wearing of Hard Hats and Steel Cap Boots was compulsory. There fines for the rule breakers. Health & Safety!!!
How do you know they aren't wearing steelys? Hard hats just keep falling off. These guys have a huge amount of common scence and need to access all areas, with out the need of some stupid helmet. i guess the most risk is that they need to protect the eyes ,and sharp metal damage.
