  • Thank you so much for watching Rings of Power - Season 1 Episode 8 with me! Going from such an emotionally strong episode to this was... Something else. I felt more confused than ever and didn't get the bang of an end that I had been hoping for. I hope you all enjoyed the reactions of this series!

I did not see the twists coming! Not exactly. I suspected the fire man could be G but I was never sure and it really made me think it was S for a moment this episode. Now I feel like I've lost a better continued story where Sauron's alignment could have swung in either direction and those magic user cultists just needed to get hold of Sauron to unlock his malice.
Of course it wouldn't track with the original background but who cares :P Tolkein was constantly revising his stories, even ones he had already published.

Very true!! It's really cool to see it from before the rings even existed.

23:49 Pharazôn is looking at the death of King Tar-Palantir in that way because he is also a human and he is saddened that this same fate will happen to him one day and he is saddened by the creator (Eru Illuvatar - God) for giving immortal life only to Elves & Valars and not to humans. The gradually growing anger is reflected in that incident. Because the reason for the collapse of the kingdom of Númenor is the anger of the Valar and the actions of the majority of people in that kingdom. It is Sauron who advises Pharazôn in the future to increase that anger and because of God's injustice to them to believe in Morgoth.
The story you told is right. Galadriel had lust for the Ring (Nenya). Even in the first prologue of PJ's LOTR: Fellowship of the Rings movie, when Galadriel wore the ring, she had that greed on her face. Even if you think like this, the story you said fits. Why did Tolkien create a ring for Galadriel without giving Celeborn a ring? Even Tolkien did not see Galadriel's husband as more powerful than her. Since Tolkien wrote the books from the end to the beginning, it is clear that he did not have a clear idea in the beginning. I think that the character of Galadriel has become complex without him realizing it.
Although Tolkien created a different universe, he brought it to life based on the feelings we share among ourselves.
I really enjoyed watching the series again with you. 🤟❤

      Oooh thank you for clarifying!!
That's what I remembered too, I only remembered it as I watched it but it felt like it made sense. That is really interesting. I love Galadriel for how complex she is, and I think it's nice to not have a character that is good / evil only.
Thank you!! I'm happy you enjoyed it! 😍

So both Sauron and the wizard here are Maiar, angels basically. Sauron is more readily powerful becuase he is completely HERE with no ties back to Valinor. There will be 5 that descend to Middle Earth. Saruman, Gandalf, Radagast, and the 2 blue wizards. (unnamed in books, so they make jokes about forgetting their names in the movies}. They will eventually make 7 rings for the dwarven kings. Sauron in disguise gives the 9 to mortal kings, those already bound to his One Ring.

This was my 3rd favourite episode after episodes 1 and 6. I think the ending sets things up nicely - Sauron doesn't have his 'kingdom' yet (his enemy, Adar and his army of orc children occupy Mordor) in fact Sauron has nothing but the new hope and impetus Galadriel and Celebrimbor have given him. They have forged three of the rings but there is still so much to work out there (will the rings work in healing the tree and will Celebrimbor stop his crafting at three). What purpose and identity will the Stranger find in the East? Who will replace the dead king of Numenor? Will Isildur find his way home? Dwarves?

It didn't help season 1 when they had the number of episodes cut from 10 to 8, partway through preproduction. The hope is that with season 2 being fixed at 8 eps from the start, things will be smoother.
It might also be interesting to know that Tolkien developed the Númenor storyline before and during Lord of the Rings, independently, and then stitched it into the backstory/origin story about the Rings, but not in a unified way: his main details writings on it treat them separately (they are given together in timelines, but not with detailed interlinked descriptions of plot). The show synchronises those two stories to happen much closer in time, with the permission of the Estate, as opposed to with a huge gap of over a thousand years.

    • @CoraReacts
      @CoraReacts  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Yeah it sucks that they cut the show shorter when they had already started, it’s so much harder to change the details of things mid through…🥲
I love how much lore there is yet to be explored from Tolkien and how there are trances of it in The Lord of the Rings.

It's a shame you had it spoiled. I guess you'd have to leave comment reading to the end of a series or have someone manage commenting for you? I only finished the last 2 episodes this month at last! The last episode definitelyhad some surprises... Can I asked what you got spoiled?
I think she divided them into 3 thinking that Sauron wanted One made to seize power. I was satisfied with the ending but didn't know there will be more coming.

Perhaps because we do not care about the visual effects in the first place, and perhaps we were hopeful and optimistic that something better would be made, and whoever was able to do such a good work cinematically can control it story-wise, and the most important thing is that it not be politicized.

@@tornado1627 Everything you said literally has nothing to do with what I said. Who cares about visual effects, what I care about is 'fans' ruining the finale for a show for someone on their own platform because it didn't fit their idea of what this bundle of Tolkien notes turned into. I'll say it again, I was talking about LOTR MOVIE fans ruining experiences for others for nothing other than self satisfaction, not Amazon ruining Tolkien. So don't try to make it out to be this noble thing you guys are doing, it's not, it's just typical behaviour of the worst of online fandom.

Expectations can lead to not enjoying things for what they are. It's a Netflix spin-off, low budget compared to the movies, telling its own version of an origin story. I was entertained enough to get through to the last episode so it's a win. I'm glad it was contained as I'm not a fan of all these long Netflix series.
