Sara, an IT professional & Stephen a graphic designer and artist are world travelling Canadians who dreamt of moving to Europe, and France in particular. In 2020 they were working from home when Stephen turned to Sara and popped the question she was longing to hear, “What would have to be true for us to buy a chateau in France?” They searched online for months viewing hundreds of properties. They narrowed their search and toured some properties when they happened upon the one that captured our hearts, Chateau de Saint Germain des Pres. A year later they made the move to France to start their new adventure in our beautiful Chateau. They created “Manor and Maker” to reflect the two sides of their adventure. One, to live as chateau owners with all the ups and downs and two, to pursue their passions as makers, creating art in all its forms. They will invite others to come together, united by their passions, to share in this adventure. We invite you to join us too, as we bring our dreams to life. Welcome to Manor & Maker.

Best of Bridge Nanaimo bars, so Canadian. Never had the opportunity to try a truffle. They look very earthy. Lovely party at yours and LaLande. Thanks Sarah and Steve🎄🙏🏻❤️
Little tip, I use 3 tablespoons of vanilla instant pudding in lieu of custard powder so the centers don't melt out when they sit on a plate. Some years I add pure orange flavoring to the center layer! Tastes like Terry's Oranges!

If it is not custard its not right, we use semi sweet bakers chocolate, I am from BC where this bar comes from

You won't know the difference in the base using digestive biscuits as the cocoa and everything else will absorb it. I live in B.C. and have made these for years using combos of cookies (biscuits) for the base. It was nice to see Stephanie and the gang in your vlog, along with your Canadian Nanaimo Bar! Woo hoo!!!!

Sarah, have you ever listened to Stuart McLean’s Vinyl Cafe episode where Dave’s boy buys a truffle from an Italian grocery? I believe he was expecting it to be chocolate but instead it tasted like dirt. Your truffle adventure brought it to mind😁.

Ah Nanaimo bars. I treat myself to them on the BC ferry going to Victoria. They are so rich and delicious and I'm impressed you made them for your French neighbours. Joyeux Noel.
Really like the idea of using Your Own Canadian traditional Christmas fare, never lose that. I am sure the locals enjoyed trying different foods. Seasonal Greetings to you all.

Hi Sara & Stephen, Rob here from Maple Bay, Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Maple Bay is about 50 minutes down island from Nanaimo- Home of the famous Nanaimo Bars. Today in a liquor store down island from us- in Mill Bay, we discovered Nanaimo Bar Cream Liquor. I wish I could show you a photo. We are told it's yummy over ice cream or just over ice. I would call the light fixtures on the mantle Bouillotte. From the game. They probably had shades at one time. They aren’t impressive enough for the mantle piece. Don’t throw them a away. Distressed with gold leaf, candled, and shaded they would look lovely on tables. You have so many rooms.

Nanaimo bars are a family favourite and I’ve made them with chopped up cherries and some juice from maraschino cherries for a different taste, they taste like Cherry Blossom chocolate bars. I’ve also make them with mint flavouring and a little green food colouring for yet another taste. Yummy. Covid here in Canada has gone mad with Omicron , we’re having over double our worst days ever in the whole pandemic and in NS they’ve just brought back lots of rules that are ruining a lot of peoples plans.
