    Thank you for showing Brantome. I visited there a few years ago and was charmed by it. People in canoes were ‘shooting the rapids’ under the bridge. We decided that we could not afford lunch at The Mill on that occasion. Thank you again, it was so pleasant to revisit this lovely place.

      Thank you Pamela, I also love Brantôme. Yes, The Mill is quite expensive! I was invited back by the guide as soon as the cultural places reopen, so we will go back, probably in summer.

    Bonjour Leon, I have just discovered you channel, and I am enjoying catching up with all your posts. I especially like your local posts featuring your neighbours and your home. I find them more interesting than the travel sites. Perhaps that is because I love seeing the food prepared and shared with friends. For those who have not been to France I am sure the sites are interesting also and there is always so much to learn. I just wanted to reach out and let you know I appreciate all that you do.

    Great feast lots of great food ....and generous neighbours, Good grief the church with statues of lots of dead babies in the history of the massacre is scary , how grim!!..but the gardens , tower and fountains make up for that.

    In town, you have the option after dessert, more frequently than not, to adjourn to the sitting room for coffee and liqueurs

    Wat 'n voortreflike Kersete met wonderlike vriende!
    Thank you so much for sharing how the ordinary French people live. Being ordinary people we much prefer to know how the general public live in France. The Christmas lunch looks absolutely divine. I come to realize form different videos I have seen that the French loves their five course meals very much. What I love about this is that the table is not overloaded with food and much easier to interact. Just 2 questions (if I may) : there must be a lot of dirty plates and cutlery after such a 5 course meal. I assume the French put them in the dishwasher or wash them as they go along, cause one may run out of plates and cutlery during the cause of the day and /or the kitchen will be in chaos by the end of such a fantastic lunch? If the French dinners take so long, then I assume the guests don't sit in the lounge at all?
    Wow, amazed by the Abbey built during the time of Charlemagne that is still standing today! If those walls could talk!! Would love to see the caves one day.
    Bonne Année! (en mag die voorspoed jou verveel! 😉)

    • @RuralFranceJournals
      @RuralFranceJournals  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dankie Helena! Allermooiste wense vir jou ook!
      Yes, you are right - many dirty plates but most of them make use of a separate scullery and they wash up as they go along. What I find peculiar is that you only use ONE set of cutlery throughout the meal. That's why you often see some ceramic or steel holders on which you can rest your used cutlery, ready for the next course. I still use a dishwasher though, being on my own. Guests usually go straight to the table - I, for example, do not even have a lounge, only a big dining room. It is so much cosier! Ek beloof dat ons terug gaan grotte toe sodra hulle oopmaak! Die gids het vir ons 'n private toer belowe, asook 'n besoek aan 'n uiters geskiedkundige kasteel 12 km daarvandaan!! Mooi bly en baie dankie vir die meelewing!

    • @helanalurie9962
      @helanalurie9962 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dis baie interessant hoe julle meer rondom die eetkamer tafel kuier en leef! (ek stem oor die skottelgoed masjien, kan nie daarsonder leef nie en dis net ek en my man).
      Og, eks seker ons klomp sien baie uit na die besoeke aan die grotte en kasteel! Hoe ouer hoe beter! En die middeleeuse meubels is ongelooflik.
      Goedgaan!
