    I tried Fusion360 and never found a tutorial series that I liked. Went with FreeCAD because of this video series and couldn't be happier! Plus it is open source to boot. You are a wonderful teacher.

      @@Adventuresincreation What I'm really looking for is something free for woodworking. I don't really need the 3D modeling, just something that I can turn out plans quick and easy for personal use so 2D would be fine most of the time. Parametric design is nice as well but I almost always build one-offs. I think I'm going to settle in on LibreCAD. The one shortcoming with LibreCAD is I cannot export to a cutlist optimizer but it is significantly faster for the type of drawings I want to do. Anyway I have completed 17 of your lessons and plan on finishing the entire thing. My opinion may change yet. Thanks again!

    IMO Another excellent tutorial.
    It took me 3 x sittings to complete this one - but it was well worthwhile.
    I click along, but make mistakes and have to go back, rewatch and listen.

    Thanks for that, I followed along, and I've got the principles fixed in my mind now (for how long, I'm not sure!). I found a useful thing to do in the parameter spreadsheet was to use a different text style for my calculated values. I chose underline, (right-click, Properties, Style, Underline) which stands out quite well, and stops me from making circular references while tweaking the table design!

    I haven't managed to get double mirroring at 33:20 in FreeCad 0.21. I had to draw 2 legs in the sketch and than mirror them once. P.S. Got it. If you want to mirror more than once in FreeCad 0.21 you need to use multitransform pattern.

  • @SomeTechGuy666
    @SomeTechGuy666 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    If you draw the leg and cutout sketches from the bottom view of the table top rather than the top, it puts the sketch datum on the bottom of the table and you don't have to mess about moving the datum.

    Thanks a lot for this video tutorial. i tried to follow along your explanation. mostly it was ok and worked. but when i make the multi transform it gives me a error. it says: one transformed shape does not intersect support. well... i dont eaven know what this means. but its not possible to make. i am drawing this table for like 4houres now. and its not the only difficoulty i found.
    the video is great. cursor and so on is good. thank you for your effort

    • @Adventuresincreation
      @Adventuresincreation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Dirk, that error usually means that one of your transformed pieces does not line up with the rest of the model and would create a second model, that is not allowed in FreeCAD at this time. So, you need to look at how much you are moving the transform and make sure that it lines up with the rest of the model, I hope that makes sense.

      @mboulton372 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Adventuresincreation The offset sketch. Miy view shows solid, while your view shows the outline of the leg up through the table. With my view I would not know to offset the top of the table leg to the bottom of the table. Maybe it is a tree issue. I'm still fuzzy on the flow of that one, as I also had issues towards the end to get the 2 planes to show up in sketcher to pocket the bottom of the table. Thanks in advance.

    • @Adventuresincreation
      @Adventuresincreation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mboulton372 the offset is not so much to make it look solid but to ensure the leg is the right length. If you have lines showing up in the model you can select refine in the data panel to hide them.

I tried everything I right clicked them to check whether they are locked maybe there is some other layer that I have to switch to. What if you wanted to add a sketch to an existing face? My object (part? this terminology is god awful) is not symmetrical and it makes no sense to dimension (constrain) my equivalent of your table legs off the arbitrary origin and I want to sketch it off an existing face and constrain its dimensions using the existing edges of that face. This seems literally impossible to do in freecad

    • @Adventuresincreation
      @Adventuresincreation  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Using faces is a problem at the moment as those face references can change with subsequent edits. See the topological naming issue. Your offsets shouldn't be arbitrary as you are designing the object with dimensions you choose.
