I have something to add. In the 1999 version Killua says him and Gon are "connected by the red string of fate". It reminds me of all the red string soulmate AUs on wattpad haha
this video is spot on, as always. whether it's platonic or romantic it's canon that gon is one the most important and loved person i killua's life. shounens don't really go too deep into the male bond and i really appreciate the pureness of two preteen boys growing with it other. on the other hand, if one of these boys was a girl, it would already be canon so people who get irritated at other fans who speculate romance are hypocrites
yes! If one of the two were a woman there would be no doubt they are in love, but since they are both men they are not open to the possibility that Killua is "in love" with Gon.
True! Actually, Sakura and Syaoran started dating with 13 years, and before that they really mistreated each other - but people knew they were canon "just because". Same thing with Your Lie in April, at 14yrs old boy and girl. Killua and Gon clearly respect and accept each other, and if someday it gets confirmed as romantic aside of all the subtext in the original language, some fans will shitstorm the series and I'm glad that Togashi don't give a F about this. He made clear that he is free to do whatever he likes with HxH and Shonen Jump will just have to accept it. I have friends that even refuse to discuss this matter, like... dude.
Speculation is fair game but many literally lie about what is canon or try to monopolize the conversation about what is valid interpretation. Call them out on it and they say “let the shippers ship” as if that includes letting liars lie.
considering that Togashi has an interest in sexuality & gender norms, & his wife, Naoko Takeuchi, has a canon lesbian couple in Sailor Moon, it isn't too far off to say Killugon could become canon at some point eventually. I personally think Killua loves Gon, more than we can see it, & so does Gon, but neither really expresses it as much as they should. Killua shows this through his actions, yes, for example bringing Nanika to heal Gon; but he tries to hide his feelings about Gon being his 'light' (also, Alluka is 1st because she's family. It doesn't mean his love for Gon weakened). Killua doesn't tell Gon how he feels about him, how thankful he is, & such, is always walking behind Gon. Killua probably has this thought process because of his family. Gon also cares about Killua, a lot, & it shows. He expresses it through his words often & has shown it through his actions as well (ex. dodgeball game or with Nobunaga) but since Gon has no value over his own life or his own body parts (Genthru, Hanzo, again, Nobunaga..) he doesn't really care if it hurts someone else's feelings, as to him, if he dies or loses smthn from his body it isn't a problem as long as he gets what he wants (Pitou is a great example, Gon's vow to his nen is just sad). Ging's absence probably has smthn to do with this mindset. I'm from Japan & Killua's use of 心中 only solidifies my headcanon that Killua loves Gon more than just friends, because it's meaning is strong. Back in the Edo period it was taught love would continue on in the heavens, & if they comitted 心中 they would be together eternally in the afterlife. People saying they're underage so this would be illegal or weird & I find it quite dumb as they're preteens, most likely teens by now, which is the age where these kind of feelings come out more. People have relationships even younger than that age & there are things called 'highschool sweethearts' if ykwim. Doesn't have to be sexual like yaoi. That alone isn't love. This is probably really long & no one will read it but I've read lots of debates acting like Gon is clueless; he isn't. He knows, he just doesn't mind it because he feels the same way, but also doesn't care about this in some situations because of his sad sense of value of himself. Killua's love for Gon is stronger than Gon's love for Killua because of that. I still think they're soulmates & my opinion will stay the same even if it's only platonic love. They were meant to meet. I agree with your video wholeheartedly. Thank you.
I read this whole thing and really enjoyed it and agree. Gon is much more expressive and Killua gets embarrassed but Gon doesn’t get embarrassed at all because his super power is literally rooted in expressing his emotions even if it hurts him.
I couldn’t agree more !!!!!!!!! I find it very weird that people hate the idea that killua and gon could have feelings for each other, only cause they’re both boys. When people are (I had my first crush like in 4th grade or something) 12 and are obviously growing up they start to get crushes, it’s completely normal
let’s not forget Killua was jealous of Retz because Gon spent so much time with her, he was about to kill himself because he thought he betrayed Gon and Retz was a better friend :((
@@-lss3789 no, hxh is a shonen series aimed at young boys. But that doesn't mean that there couldn't be lgbt elements in it. I mean, Togashi and his wife are lgbt supporters so it wouldn't be far fetched. And stop comparing gay people or ships with yaoi 😂 like, can everybody just stop fetishizing gay people?? Just because we ship a gay ship, doesn't mean it's sexual. There could be a canon gay couple in the background, but the focus still on the main story. IMO it wouldn't ruin anything, since the focus isn't on romance. It would be cool to see good lgbt representation in anime, especially in shonen anime. That's just my opinion tho.
@@kekakistuff the way you see everything and everyone as a couple so yes it looks like you think you are seeing yaoi. oh and , when i say yaoi i don't mean that sexual thing ahaha i didn't know that word had that meaning, i thought it was just gay couples. oh and forget that bro, I don’t care anymore, everyone sees how they want.
THATS SO TRUE! It takes time to start understanding feelings and at the age of 12 no one will know exactly what they are feeling. Their relationship isn’t exactly the most important thing but the portrayal of characters growing and changing to love one another and discovering their feelings along the way.
This is such a perfect analysis and it sums up my thoughts on the matter perfectly! In the end, it doesn't really matter if they're gay for one another or not, because either way, their bond id so strong and deep and beautiful. I ship them, because as an lgbt kid myself, I don't see a lot of genuine, unfetishized representation in media, especially not anime. Seeing these two young boys loving and caring deeply for one another really resonated with me in a way most anime doesn't, so I choose to view them through a lens of lgbt representation
@@nenmaster5218 Alluka is an amazing and lovable character and a nice represantation for the community but why do you say that question to the previous person in that tone
This vedio is the all truth and the perfect one i get what did you say and this is my pinets They way he handled Killua’s emotional development in the chimera ant arc just reeks of something deeper than friendship from Killua’s side. I could honestly see Togashi intending it to be one-sided romantic feelings, maybe a bit toned down considering both of them are still only 13 by that point. There’s just so much. I definitely agree that Killua was jealous of Palm. Killua outright admitted to stalking them on their date and becoming distracted from his ‘real purpose’ of protecting Gon while he couldn’t use nen. I agree as well that it’s significant that Killua has the breakdown in front of Palm. He feels helpless to do anything for the person he cares most about and reaches out to Palm to try to do what he can’t, completely insecure and vulnerable like we’ve never seen him before. He’s devastated and desperate to help Gon, but he’s still willing to pass it on to someone else that he feels can do the job better, which just happened to be Palm, a person he was visibly jealous of before and who was romantically interested in Gon. I can understand a friend being upset by a comment like Gon’s, but not quite to the extent that Killua is. It’s a really powerful scene, and one of my favorite in the manga. There’s a plethora of moments beyond that, Palm conceding and telling Killua that it’s not her, but Killua, that is most important to Gon, when Palm was romantically interested in Gon and previously saw Killua as an obstacle. Killua’s lover’s suicide comment (which was clearly not actually a joke, especially with Killua’s habit of considering the worst outcomes), worrying early on in the arc if he’s worthy of staying with Gon, the fact that Gon’s comment even led him to that level of despair to begin with, the comment Killua makes about only wanting to be with Gon when he and Gon were discussing dates, and even into the election arc when Hisoka and Illumi are discussing the conditions to Alluka’s ability and all the examples of people affected by the fallout of the wishes were lovers. I know it’s all still subjective depending on how you’re more inclined to take it, romantic or platonic, but being that it’s Togashi I still can’t help but wonder if it’s intentional, if not one of those ‘you can take it either way’ cases. It’s most likely that it’s just very strong platonic feelings, but I still can’t keep the nagging wonder away considering how at the forefront Killua’s feelings for Gon were through the entire arc. People get up in arms when people interpret same sex relationships as romantic, but in this case I really don’t think Togashi of all people is going to be offended if that’s how you choose to interpret it.
thats why the show is called hunter “x” hunter get it? like killua “x” gon YALL ARE BASHING ME ITS JUST A THOUGHT I THOUGHT NO ONE WOULD SEE THIS SO SORRY
I personally see it as gay because their friendship reminds me of my friendship-turned-crush that made me realize I was a lesbian. Overall though I love them and just want to see them happy, even if it’s all just platonic. I completely agree with the fact that young boys need to be encouraged to express more intimate friendships.
People who say you can’t ship Gon and Killua because they’re kids are just… kind of homophobic. I could see their relationship either way. I’m not saying it’s homophobic to not ship them. But there’s a pervasive myth that gay relationships are inherently more sexual or deviant than straight ones. I see people claiming all the time that interpreting Killua’s feelings as a crush is sexualizing children, but never have I ever seen people saying that Spy Family sexualizes children for making Damian (6) have a crush on Anya (5), or Becky (6) have a crush on a literal adult. No one says that Aang and Katara (12 and 14) kissing in Avatar was too sexual. But just because they’re two boys, people think shipping Killua and Gon is wrong. Shipping does not equal sexualizing whether it’s gay or straight.
@@killugon.mp4395 That was one scene:-: Otherwise Killua treats Gon there like a little brother and acts himself more mature and stuff than the 2012 Killua And it was Gon who said that
honestly, the fact is that gon is the most expressive of affection- AND YET Killua is the one we see as gay, even though he is the one who is embarrassed or denies when gon compliments him so, why? my opinion is that Killua is more outwardly feminine (his hair the way he dresses etc.) and he is the cool and calculated one of the two, which people often associate with femininity, add that on to the fact that his mental health struggle presents him as having anxiety and depression which he actually tries to deal with emotionally (whereas Gon tries to fight his mental health issues by being aggressive and combative) which again people see as more feminine. which is why I think people think he's gay and honestly... I agree, Killua absolutely has romantic feelings for Gon. the way he looks at him, the sacrifices he makes for him, plus his inner dialogue definitely make me think that killua is gay. AND he probably knows he has a crush on Gon (at least by the yorknew city arc) Gon might not think about romance at all, he is less mature than Killua but I think that IF he does start to figure himself out, he will probably realize that killua had/has a massive crush on him. sorry for the giant wall of text (I'm very passionate about killugon)
I think he's the one more seen as gay because he's the one shown as blushing at the other the most. Gon looks like the golden retriever type of friend who's super friendly and affectionate to everyone (although his favorite person is killua) and kinda naive with his feelings, like a child who hasn't developped enough to reach the stage of romantic/sexual attractions yet because he's still too immature so even if he was gay he wouldn't know it yet. Whereas Killua seems to be more mature and already able to be attracted to people in a teenager way
I wouldn t directly say it s because Killua s more feminine (honestly, I really don t think he is, and I wouldn t takethat as argument on why he might be gay or why people think that), I think it s more of Killua s inner dialogue, Gon does show affection but no reaction, he isn t ashamed to say that, and it s more his personality to give compliments, while Killua blushes and talks to himself about how Gon is light, how we d commit double suicide with him, etc. Gon doesn t suggest to feel a lot of romantic feelings to anyone yet, as he s more childlike or just is that kinda person, whereas Killua seems like your typical teen with these worries
if togashi comes back im 100% convinced that he’s gonna make killugon canon. there’s not a doubt in my mind that they’ll be canon at least by the end of the manga. killua’s shinjuu line.. gon saying “ja nakya dame nan da”.. the gon you are light scene ........ they’re pining, your honour
To me this relation is pivotal for human life in general no matter what gender. It shows how much we need and should celebrate each other and our friends and lovers. It has always been intense when I meet someone with an opposite personality and it’s always been needed to round us out and learn new things and be whole. To me hxh taught me to love and appreciate all relations especially if something feels clashing. We all need each other and you never know what can happen from being open to loving someone. The symbolism as kids from opposite lives give room for deep connection and how people can relate, feel protective, adapt and feel better despite differences. It’s everything!!!!!!!!!
I think it's hard to write a very close relationship without it seeming like a romantic one. I mean, i've seen dozens of hints of killugon being semi-canon, and yes, i ship them myself. However, they're only pre-teens/teens through the whole series, and both have a more or less complicated past. Especially Killua is not experienced in platonic or romantic relationships. This leads to the obvious; they might not be sure of their feelings towards each other. And i think they shouldn't be forced to settle in one kind of relationship. Sometimes love goes beyond romantic or platonic love: love shared by soulmates. Wheter it will include romantic elements, i think is up to Togashi. Which brings up my second point. Togashi is very skilled and also very lgbtq friendly writer. I dont think his "hints" have happened on accident. Maybe hes still building up killua's and gon's relationship. I mean they have seperated for now. Their relationship had become very complicated; killua was dependent on gon because of his need to protect him and gon had gone through a lot of traumatic events. So i think this period in the series is to let killua and gon grow and mature up. One could say a romantic ending is the obvious, another could disagree. However, im sure the author who has deeper connection to the characters than any of us, will have a well-built ending written.
Though many people have said things like this I thought I would write my own because this relationship means a lot to me personally: Despite the relationship being platonic or not I think we can all safely say that they are insanely close. Killua has a huge infatuation with Gon and Gon values their relationship so very much. This relationship (as said in the video) is so very intense either way and they truly love eachother. No matter what way you look at it, their relationship is beautiful and it works well.
thank you for this. i absolutely love your analysis. Their relationship is the best i've ever seen in fiction (or real life for that matter). It can be interpreted in many ways but a lot of fans get offended when you interpret it one way over the other.
@@keobloop6075 That's true, but the anime printed out that he was 12. So maybe there's a little internal inconsistency. Either that or Gon himself was almost 12 before the exam and was almost 13 during the ant arc.
Gon and Killua's relationship in the Chimera Ant arc mirrors (it is a reverse of) Meruem and Komugi's relationship. Killua says "Gon, you are light". You know who else is light? Meruem. His name means "light that illuminates all". And Meruem illuminates Komugi's existence, much like Gon illuminates Killua's. However, Gon breaks Killua's heart, and makes him cry of sadness and despair, while Meruem heals Komugi's self-loathing and makes her cry of happiness. It is widely accepted that Gon/Meruem are a mirror. But so is Killua/Komugi, people just don't realise as much. If you pay attention, it is there plain for all to see. Gon and Killua could have been lovers, but they go their separate ways in the end, because Gon becomes a beast and hurts Killua's feelings. Gon breaks their relationship in a somewhat unrepairable way. Meanwhile, we know how things go for Meruem and Komugi. Meruem becomes human and, unlike Gon, he gives up his personal quest just to stay with Komugi. Gon turns his back on Killua, who was there for him. So Killua fails to reach and save Gon from himself (later he finds new meaning in being with Alluka). Gon and Killua get to live, but apart from each other. Meruem and Komugi go on, together. If Killua was a girl, no one would doubt the romantic aspects of their relationship. Granted, they are 12 year olds, their relationship is more platonic than anything else. But the seeds of romance are there. They could grow to become lovers. Let us not forget that Kite (arguably the most important person for Gon) is now a man in a girl's body, while Alluka (now the most important person for Killua) is a girl in a boy's body. Togashi has written gay/transgender romance before. So, even though I don't think Gon-Killua romance is a thing, it could be a thing and it would make perfect sense.
Oh man it's so frustrating that most of people who watch hxh won't ever know about shinjuu stuff because of the mistranslations. Thanks for this video ❤ now we just need to spread it
It’s not a mistranslation. It means “double suicide,” “group suicide,” or “lover’s suicide.” It’s probably meant to foreshadow Meruem and Komugi, their parallel. The manga translates it as “we’ll go down in flames together.” Which more directly foreshadows the explosion Gon creates with Jajanken but also misdirects since neither of them die.
This is one of the main reasons I love and kin Killua so much when I was the same age as Killua I was just realizing that I was Bisexual, thankfully I have a supportive family but it was pretty damn scary, especially when my first ever crush was on my female best friend. It must be really hard and scary for Killua to feel this way about someone he thinks as his friend. I felt like actual shit debating in my head whether or I loved her or not, Killua thinks of Gon as a crush and a friend and he truly doesn't want to screw that up. Killua has never met anyone to be to practice all of this out on (like how younger kids "date" for short periods of time) so all of these intense emotions are all completely new to him, which makes it all the scarier. Killua is hands down my favorite character and he truly deserves happiness
tbh the only reason killuas feelings for gon arent considered canon is homophobia, theres clearly romantic intent put there by the author, and the most basic reading of the text would point towards killua liking gon romantically. if killua was a girl, none of this would be questioned. i fully agree gons feelings can be read as anything, and if someone wants to read killuas feelings as platonic im not gonna waste my time getting mad, but its such a perfect example of the homophobia that manifests in shonen fandoms, especially judging by how many people treat queer readings as inherently sexual. being a lesbian involved in shonen fandoms is just the absolute worst, something will be so clear to me and other queer readers yet we will be treated as if were insane..
@@nenmaster5218 i dont think you know the definition of gatekeeping. and you arent as "pro-lgbt" as can be if you are actively disregarding the perspectives of gay fans! and i didnt say everyone who disagrees with my exact take is homophobic, i said its reflective of the general homophobic attitude and atmosphere present in shonen fandoms. no need to get so defensive
I loved the video, loved the anime too. I've watched the original and the 2011 "remake". I definetly felt the romance between them and especially from Killua. It's among my favorite parts about HxH, it's overall a great series.
I've watched hxh when I was 10 years old and Killua was always and still is my favourite character. I think now I understand why that is. Sometimes when people like a character, they're not sure if they want to be like him or be with him, but I've realized that I just wanted to have a bright person (like Gon is to Killua) in my life. I wanted to be in Killua's shoes and It's no coincidence that they're two boys, because I've been interested in girls at the age I was watching a one sided crush between two same genders. So no wonder I empathized with Killua. I was a pre teen girl that had a huge infatuation with another girl that's my exact age and I didn't know how to feel about those strong feelings and didn't even know what they were, just like Killua. In conclusion, Togashi made such a great story and the subtext of Gon's and Killua's relationship is brilliant, because there isn't much representation of these types of realistic crushes that don't end in dramatic confessions where someone gets a clear answer...Sometimes in life, love ends in no closure or conclusion at all. That's very relatable and that's why these two are special.
The most convincing theory to me until now is the one-sided crush one. Read the Japanese manga and there are just so much hints there couldn't be dismissed, so I just have to believe that Killu really developed romantic feelings for his BFF along the way, while Gon being dumb and never really noticed the level of Killua's devotion, let alone finding its true nature aside from loyalty grown from dear friendship. If you don't interpret in that way, the only explanation will be Killua developed a toxic clingy friendship and become unhealthily obsessive about his friend suddenly, which just seems weird with all his themes and growth in the ant arc, so yes, assuming Killua has gone through an angtsy teenage crush, suffered and grown from it would be the most thematically suitable way to explain everything happened.
@@arlo8805 Just google for "Hunter x hunter gay subtext." Should be able to find something quickly. Would recommend "A masterpost on Togashi's gay subtext and why it's intentional". The author links a few other posts at the end.
Yes. It's natural to get jealous of a crush. It's not natural to get jealous over a friend. Kaneki and Hideyoshi are close but Hideyoshi never tries to cockblock Kaneki's dates. He does the opposite, he's always tried to hook Kaneki up.
Actually there friendship really reminds me of one from a book we studied in english lit (A seperate peace) and there too, even tho it's not explicitly said, the two "best friends" have a really close and even romantic relationship. Also when you talked about light, that reminded me of romeo and juliet coz in most scene, when romeo talks about juliet, he says that she is his light ( signifying someone who brought good thing to him)... Yeah I ship them hard
Personally, I saw Killua and Gon's relationship as platonic. Psychologically, he's a very sheltered kid who, for the first time, has a best friend. He starts off in the series without a direction, so seeing Gon's goals as a hunter and finding Ging has Killua see him as a bit of a role model. With Gon, he can actually act like a kid and because of Gon, he starts to find his purpose. Because of the way he was raised, he's not going to let something like that go; he's going to protect that with his life. However, I wouldn't be surprised if he did have a romantic crush on him, but I personally don't think that was the direction that Togashi might've been going with. I honestly had no clue about the little clues in the Japanese language and culture pointing to a possible crush. Also, I don't know if Killua really understands romantic relationships. The only example he probably saw was his parents and we haven't really seen the both of them together too much as a couple. The same goes for Gon. Either way, it doesn't change how beautiful their friendship really is.
I wouldn't underestimate Togashi. He's written a gay couple before and an almost gay couple in YYH. It's always possible he started off thinking of them as a couple before changing his mind like he did with Hiei and Kurama. Gon and Killua give off the same vibes as those two, but more pure.
I personally think that their relationship is platonic because the reason Killua is so protecting of gon is because he’s never had a friend before, so he values friendship more than anything. Nonetheless they are soulmates tho and I love their relationship
I Agree With The Last Part. Like. A Lot. It's Possible Killua Doesn't Know How He Truly Feels In Regards To Romance. Could Be In The Future He Realises He Has Feelings For His Best Friend. It's Also Fantastic For Straight Bois To Express Platonic Intimacy With Their Friends Regardless Of Said Friend's Gender. 100% However I Strongly Disagree With Everything Else In Regards To Romantic Interest Between The Two. I Mean If People Are Going To Use The "Gon, you are light" Scene As Evidence Then They'd Also Have To Admit That Ikalgo Has A Crush On Killua. I Have Nothing To Say Regarding The Lovers Suicide Thing Except That's Kinda What Happened Between Komugi And Meruem - A Relationship That Had No Explicit Mention Of Romance But HEAVILY Implicit Moments. Unlike Gon & Killua I Don't Think It's A Debate To Say Komugi And Meruem Had Crushes On Each Other, Possibly Even Loved One Another.
@Maya Garcia Maybe I Phrased It Badly. But Basically Ikalgo Had A "Gon, you are light" Scene But Towards Killua Instead. (There Seems To Be A Lot Of Allegory/Imagery For Light And Such In The Chimera Ant Arc. Such As Meruem's Name Meaning "The light that illuminates all".) The Point I Was Trying To Make Was That If Folks Wanted To Use That Scene As Evidence For Killua Having Romantic Feelings For Gon They'd Also Have To Say Ikalgo Seeing Killua As Light (In The Same Way Killua Saw Gon) Meant The Same. But Then Again I'm 95% Sure They Would If Ikalgo And Killua Had As Much Screen Time Together As Killua And Gon Does.
@@maura7197 I Don't Remember... Not Even Sure I Know What A Killugon Masterpost Is ;S I Mean I Have SOME Idea. But It's Probably Not Something I Have Links To >.>
I can see where the comment "you are light" could be seen as romantic but it is you are light and not you are my light. Gon is light in the darkness which Killua has walked his entire life. Killua is a child of darkness so I think the writing represents that over a romantic light
But he’s thinking it like he’s saying it to gon🤦🏽♂️ nd u said it yourself gon is light in the darkness he’s been in his whole life & gon chose to be his friend. I.E chosen to be his Light & it also helps explain why killua is so protective of gon cause in his head gon is HIS LIGHT 💡

Your analysis is so beautifully done! I’ve been hoping for years now that someone with enough patience and insight would sit down and create an explorative video like this regarding Gon and Killua’s relationship. I agree that it can be up to the viewer’s interpretation. There isn’t a right or wrong way to translate it, whether their bond is romantic or platonic. I’m fairly biased, as I feel quite strongly that there are romantic feelings between the two of them, but despite that I can appreciate and accept the intense probability that it’s platonic love. I do hope that one day Togashi will reunite the two of them and perhaps give us an answer, but he could also cleverly leave their relationship ambiguous, yet again for our own interpretation. And honestly, I would be happy with an outcome like that. Whether or not they’re meant to be together romantically, I believe Togashi has created a pair of characters with an incredible bond that goes beyond any standard friendship. It’s a wonderful thing, no matter how you look at it.
ok so what makes me think that their bond is more romantic is cause at the final of the episodes gon and killua explain a new characters power, killua actually gives gon a kiss on the lips, in another segment of these, they hold hands get close to each other and blush, I actually have these two saved as gifs

personally, i like seeing their relationship as romantic in the future if things ever turn out that way, but nonetheless forgetting the whole debate of is it or is it not gay gon and killua will always hold a special place in my heart as the 2 characters who were soulmates regardless of the nature of their relationship.
In the "gon, you are light" scene he's literally showing his heart in his hands and it's so full of love, you can't tell me he's not in love with his best friend
Personally I think Togashi likes to play with that idea of ambiguity of feelings and relationships, it could well be both options and it would make sense. If you ask me I would say it doesn't really matter, gon and killua's relationship is so good that it works both ways, I really wish they were a couple confirming that killua and gon are at least Bi, but if they end up being friends (which is as much as possible) would still be fine. Although everything has to be said, Togashi expressed his pleasure for now being able to do whatever he wants with his story, and being the same person that was even before it was included, it was great, well, there are possibilities xd ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Personalmente creo que a Togashi le gusta jugar con esa idea de ambigüedad de sentimientos y relaciones, bien podrían ser ambas opciones y tendría sentido.

My love for this ship isn't normal anymore, I just don't know where to put all this love. Dam I almost vomited my heart out to be honest. I just wanna scream.
omg thank you for this video! I too love Gon's and Killua's relationship and can agree that I can see how there can be romance or a platonic crush, at least on killua's side. I am very much into the idea that Killua might not know whether he has a romantic crush or views Gon as a impressive (and not romantically at all). They are both kids after all. And what Killua was experiencing is intense. I don't think I would know how I was exactly feeling if I was in Killua's shoes.
To me it is necessary to see Killua as a boy in gay puppy love because that opens up his character arc in brilliant ways. Almost all gay kids experience their first crush on a straight person. This can shape their emotional expectations as unfulfillable and self-sacrificing. Killua is in the friend zone but it's a very deep friend zone, which is satisfying for him at this pre-sexual age. But eventually he will be unsatisfied that Gon will never be his lover. Unless he deals with it. And he does deal with it! There are two key moments. Killua does feel a sting when he learns Gon has been with women. There is a detail: after Killua rescues Gon from Palm, Gon offers him the toy gold robot which Killua really likes, but Killua refuses Gon's gift. Why would Killua reject Gon's gift? It is Killua's way of saying "our relationship is one-sided, I don't want faux reciprocation." The toy robot was Gon offering him a ring, but Killua rejected it because it was not a wedding ring. It's the first time Killua sets a boundary in their relationship. You might say Gon was leading Killua on, as straight guys do sometimes because no one is 100% straight or gay, but never intending to cross the gay sex line. Rejecting Gon's asexual love token was very revealing of how Killua is processing their relationship. In the confrontation with Pitou over Kite, Gon dismissively tells Killua to stay in his lane. This was a savage emotional shock to Killua, "My lane? I thought it was our lane!" For some couples, this could be the first strike in a breakup. From that moment, Killua realizes his one-sided total devotion to Gon does not work and he needs to make a life for himself apart from Gon -- in order to save their friendship! He puts their relationship in perspective and decides to switch the focus of his life from Gon to protecting Alluka. He will always love Gon, but not in the unrequited way that would have eventually turned sour and painful for him. This solidifies Killua as one of the best written characters I know of in anime, or even literature.
there is too much gay subtext for killua NOT to have some sort of romantic feelings for gon, togashi is a really smart man and KNOWS what hes doing he literally would never ever put all these small hints and subtext that killua likes gon ROMANTICALLY, it is literally painfully obvious idc.
Just wanted to add that they should be at least 13, maybe 14 by the end of the anime. They were both already 12 when they took the first exam, Killua then took the next one, so since it was a year later he was 13. And then a lot of time passed again so they'd be if not 14 already at least really close to it. That's a natural age to develop crushes for most people. They don't seem different because as established in-series using nen can slow down aging.
I'll admit, I started watching H x H when I was really young and never noticed Killua's feelings to Gon, but I could see it now. Fun fact, I usually gravitated towards not straight characters or even people IRL and since I was little, if you asked me, I would always say that Killua was and still is actually, my favorite character in H X H along with Kurapika. And I also just found out that Kurapika is a male? XD
Honestly it's both bromance and romance in my opinion. Cause to say that you would DIE for someone(with someone) is something more than just a buddy buddy friendship. Also, let's not forget that romantic relationships can have partners that are also friends. You can have both. I think cause this was made in a different time and in a country like Japan where homosexuality was seen as (and still is seen as) a taboo, a phase, something that is just brotherly/sisterly love. But then again love is different for different people i just think that what Gon and Killua share is something that is both romantic ( in a sense) and friendly. In a country like Japan where the words i love you are scarce i think the author portrayed this very well, its shonen ai at best. So yes, this is gay.
Since the first phase of the hunter exam it feels like throughout the scenes their friendship has gotten like bigger and bigger and I am OK If killua like gon

this video is spot on, as always. whether it's platonic or romantic it's canon that gon is one the most important and loved person i killua's life. shounens don't really go too deep into the male bond and i really appreciate the pureness of two preteen boys growing with it other. on the other hand, if one of these boys was a girl, it would already be canon so people who get irritated at other fans who speculate romance are hypocrites
I have friends that even refuse to discuss this matter, like... dude.

No. We just dont like the idea of shipping children. I dont get into ships much but especially not with kids.

Yes
considering that Togashi has an interest in sexuality & gender norms, & his wife, Naoko Takeuchi, has a canon lesbian couple in Sailor Moon, it isn't too far off to say Killugon could become canon at some point eventually.
When people are (I had my first crush like in 4th grade or something) 12 and are obviously growing up they start to get crushes, it’s completely normal
really well said, I couldn't agree more
let’s not forget Killua was jealous of Retz because Gon spent so much time with her, he was about to kill himself because he thought he betrayed Gon and Retz was a better friend :((

THATS SO TRUE! It takes time to start understanding feelings and at the age of 12 no one will know exactly what they are feeling. Their relationship isn’t exactly the most important thing but the portrayal of characters growing and changing to love one another and discovering their feelings along the way.
yes! thats exactly how i feel!
You mean the type of their relationship or the relationship in itself? Because I d consider the relationship as quite a huge part of the story

Killua’s emotional development in the chimera ant arc just reeks of something deeper than friendship from Killua’s side.
This is so well written!! Thank you!!

When gon and killua sperate
😭 yall that scene made me cry-
honestly, the fact is that gon is the most expressive of affection- AND YET Killua is the one we see as gay, even though he is the one who is embarrassed or denies when gon compliments him so, why?
my opinion is that Killua is more outwardly feminine (his hair the way he dresses etc.) and he is the cool and calculated one of the two, which people often associate with femininity, add that on to the fact that his mental health struggle presents him as having anxiety and depression which he actually tries to deal with emotionally (whereas Gon tries to fight his mental health issues by being aggressive and combative) which again people see as more feminine. which is why I think people think he's gay and honestly... I agree, Killua absolutely has romantic feelings for Gon. the way he looks at him, the sacrifices he makes for him, plus his inner dialogue definitely make me think that killua is gay. AND he probably knows he has a crush on Gon (at least by the yorknew city arc)
Gon might not think about romance at all, he is less mature than Killua but I think that IF he does start to figure himself out, he will probably realize that killua had/has a massive crush on him.
sorry for the giant wall of text (I'm very passionate about killugon)
They jus good frnds chill
I think he's the one more seen as gay because he's the one shown as blushing at the other the most. Gon looks like the golden retriever type of friend who's super friendly and affectionate to everyone (although his favorite person is killua) and kinda naive with his feelings, like a child who hasn't developped enough to reach the stage of romantic/sexual attractions yet because he's still too immature so even if he was gay he wouldn't know it yet. Whereas Killua seems to be more mature and already able to be attracted to people in a teenager way
@@momishal3273 idk man, I’m not telling my bro that he is the light of my life.

I smell an underrated youtuber
Though many people have said things like this I thought I would write my own because this relationship means a lot to me personally:
Despite the relationship being platonic or not I think we can all safely say that they are insanely close. Killua has a huge infatuation with Gon and Gon values their relationship so very much. This relationship (as said in the video) is so very intense either way and they truly love eachother. No matter what way you look at it, their relationship is beautiful and it works well.
honestly idc if thay're inlove or not, i just love their relationship and seeing them together is heartwarming
thank you for this. i absolutely love your analysis. Their relationship is the best i've ever seen in fiction (or real life for that matter). It can be interpreted in many ways but a lot of fans get offended when you interpret it one way over the other.
In the anime they age up and become 13 during heavens arena arc in the ant arc they turn 14
I just finished the date with Palm episode and it said Palm was 22 and Gon was 12.
@@CaptainPIanet ok so the hunters exam happens once a year and killua failed the first year but took it again the next year
@@keobloop6075 That's true, but the anime printed out that he was 12. So maybe there's a little internal inconsistency. Either that or Gon himself was almost 12 before the exam and was almost 13 during the ant arc.
@@CaptainPIanet true
@@christopherrivera1673 it *is* a mistranslation, they literally translated it as "gon will trade his life for pitou's" in the anime dude
@@christopherrivera1673 uh, no. "We'll go down in flames together" isn't taken to be literally, it actually means "We'll die together".
This is one of the main reasons I love and kin Killua so much
when I was the same age as Killua I was just realizing that I was Bisexual, thankfully I have a supportive family but it was pretty damn scary, especially when my first ever crush was on my female best friend.
Wow, NICE GATEKEEPKING.
'Everyone who disagrees with me is PHOBIC'.
Lol. No. I'm pro-lgbt as you can be and i just called you out, genius.
You could at least support your argument with examples

So anime only. Never happened in the manga
They have their names under a love umbrella as well😂
killua and gon are literally soulmates. nobody could tell me otherwise.
0:17 turn on subtitles. “Gong and Kiruwa” XDDDD
Ngl I don’t really care if it’s platonic or romantic I just rlly want a scene where they hug. But that’s just me💀
I loved the video, loved the anime too. I've watched the original and the 2011 "remake". I definetly felt the romance between them and especially from Killua. It's among my favorite parts about HxH, it's overall a great series.
Omg i literally cried becuz their best charm is their friendship
In my opinion gon and killua are soulmates they would be a cute couple
Hi, do you have any exemples of the hints in the manga you talked about ? Where can I read it ?
@@arlo8805 Just google for "Hunter x hunter gay subtext." Should be able to find something quickly. Would recommend "A masterpost on Togashi's gay subtext and why it's intentional". The author links a few other posts at the end.
@@charlene1610 Thanks !!
And not to mention the intense, jealousy-ridden stalking during Gon's date with Palm 😂
Thank you finally someone said it lol
Idk tho it’s weird because he doesn’t act like that with octopus guy

I Agree With The Last Part. Like. A Lot. It's Possible Killua Doesn't Know How He Truly Feels In Regards To Romance. Could Be In The Future He Realises He Has Feelings For His Best Friend. It's Also Fantastic For Straight Bois To Express Platonic Intimacy With Their Friends Regardless Of Said Friend's Gender. 100%
However I Strongly Disagree With Everything Else In Regards To Romantic Interest Between The Two.
@hisoka's wife IKALGO IS AN OCTOPUS 🤡🤡🤡🤡
Well I mean the other example of shinju ur using literal non human creatures so I dont think that really counts.

This is so amazingly done! You're amazing ❤️❤️❤️
Gon is the Light ⭐️ and Killua is the Electricity ⚡️
ok so what makes me think that their bond is more romantic is cause at the final of the episodes gon and killua explain a new characters power, killua actually gives gon a kiss on the lips, in another segment of these, they hold hands get close to each other and blush, I actually have these two saved as gifs
What?
Their friendship is like no other...I admire both of them...😊

to be fair, i love their relationship, whether they keep on keeping on as best friends, or something more, it's still great!

Although everything has to be said, Togashi expressed his pleasure for now being able to do whatever he wants with his story, and being the same person that was even before it was included, it was great, well, there are possibilities xd
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

omg thank you for this video!
Yessssss I was hoping for exactly this video
they're homies bro
This solidifies Killua as one of the best written characters I know of in anime, or even literature.
killua’s blush count when near gon is like 20 no one can tell me he isn’t in love-
Nah he's gay. I'm pretty sure he is. Like, the idea of Killua falling for a girl is just too strange.
Awh I love this video !! Love your work hope your doing good during these times ❤️❤️
there is too much gay subtext for killua NOT to have some sort of romantic feelings for gon, togashi is a really smart man and KNOWS what hes doing
he literally would never ever put all these small hints and subtext that killua likes gon ROMANTICALLY, it is literally painfully obvious idc.
Nobody can't tell me noting they love each other and there secret child is mydoria from mha

Tbh I like the fact their relationship is a bit ambiguous, makes things more interesting
