  • The craze for Rip Jigging has heated up the walleye world & forgotten is the almighty Spoon. Spoons are not just for trolling or casting.
These are Jigging Spoons For Walleye!
It’s time to add another chair at the table for Rip Jigging Baits. Vertical Jigging Spoons, something a lot of us do in the winter is long & forgotten come the summer months. Here I take Deadly Dick Spoons & Vertically fish them for success on open water.

For sure, It’s so much fun if you can crack the code & get them to go that day.
That video was the first time I pulled out spoons to try them. Something about the weight & cut of those spoons they attack them the same as a glide bait.
Deadly Dick Classic Lures or Acme Tackle make that style of spoon.

@@surgeoutdoorsangling What model/weight/length of rod are you using there?

    • @surgeoutdoorsangling

I go against the grain on this one, most guys promote a long 6’8-7ft rod. I prefer a 6-6’6 ft . It doesn’t strain your arm or wrist as bad & you get a quicker hook set.
      6ft- 6’6 Med/ML Fast Action 1/8-5/8 or 1/8 - 3/4 or 1/4 -5/8
A few rods that would fit that are:
      Fenwick
      HMX60M-FS
      HMG60ML-FS Rod in video
      HMG66M-FS
      St.Croix
      PS60MF
      AVS66MF
This G is my jigging & pitching rod, I’ve used it & punched them with it... it’s a little bit to light.. 6’3 1/8 - 3/8 med fast
      Gloomis

@@surgeoutdoorsangling you are correct, a lighter action rod is important to keeping those hooks stuck. I have a St croix eyecon snapjig rod that is a little too heavy but works. I have a premier 7ft ML that is perfect. That F or EXF action is important too

      Nice 👍
I used to use that exact same rod. I prefer the shorter 6-6’6ft for fatigue purposes with how I rip jig. Longer rods seem to be extremely hard on the wrist as they pull a bit differently when vertical.

How deep of water are you fishing

    • @surgeoutdoorsangling
      @surgeoutdoorsangling  ปีที่แล้ว

That day in fall I think I was around 30 ft but it’s kind of irrelevant, I’ve caught walleye from 15 ft to way out deep rip jigging lots of different baits.
Just have to find the fish with your electronics & go through the motions. Select different baits & colors, see what they’ll hit.
If I remember correctly that day they wouldn’t touch a glide bait like a jigging rap, moonshine shiver minnow, hyper rattle, that’s what lead me to using spoons.

Yea there definitely some very nice rainbows in there. On the Facebook pages I see lots of people catch them from shore / boat. I’ve never tried yet, maybe one day.
