Ironically, the Boss DS1 was staring them right in the face in the pedal cabinet. If they had done just a little research on Joe, they would've quickly found that he used the DS1 into a Marshall(set clean) for decades. Then it's all about setting the gain stages for each. They still did a good job however. I own the DSL40c and it has a nice sounding distortion which is what saved the day.
where can i find articles about Joe using the Boss Ds1, i also like using my distortion in a clean channel. i was unaware he did this, now i can use my Boss Ds-1
I've seen Satriani in concert here in my hometown (Toronto, Canada) last year for his Shockwave Supernova album, and it was awesome. I'm a big fan of him and he's one of my influences/favourites on guitar
Also when choosing songs for him you guys could've done some Chickenfoot tunes as well, because he was in it with Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony (Van Halen) and Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers)
+Danilo Silva Marshall Amp (or Marshall JCM800 style pedal), guitar with humbuckers. Dimarzio Super Distortions for Dave Murray, Seymour Duncan JB for Mustaine and Cantrell, EMG's for Jeff. Done.
I really enjoy everything about the "Sound Like Series"...excellent. You guys nail the sounds pretty good on every artist. I especially like how you "explain" tone and what the pedals are doing. I'm just a weekend warrior/hobbyist so I learn something (actually lots)every time I play one of your vids. Here's a challenge for you...."Sound like Frank Marino".....for your Canadian viewers...eh.
Aye people have been requesting it for a while. I reckon they'll do it soon because they're asking for recommendations and this one always gets loads of thumbs up.
+Danny Sands I don't know about you but for me the temptations are so strong it could easily lead to an empty bank account. Therefore, in my case at least, dangerous.
I'm really impressed of how you analyze it, I've been guitarist for a while but never got around BUILDING the sound, I just go for multi-fx and presets, maybe I should get to understand what everything does... Beautiful Job guys keep it up.
Rabea.. I cant say how much I respect ALL that you put out killer player, true gentleman, & much more, wish I could hang out with you ~ it would be a huge learning experience & sooo much more `wishing you ALL the very best in all you do & have a great holiday season./Peace\ Jay.
Wow nice RaBea and Matt great review vid and awesome playing Rabea that was on the pin super good part with analog chorus at 8:20 and that pedal is amazing :))) That green analog chorus I need it! lolol
Yeah lads - what would be AWESOME is comparing BUDGET setup V NO BUDGET setup to see if money really matters for most of us chumps who will never sound like Satch anyway. That guitar was lovely. Some awesome tones and a beautiful colour. Stoked your shop has such a huge range of IBANEZ on the rack. Here in Brisbane Australia our retailers stock sweet FA Ibanez on the shelf. Essentially we have to purchase online which means we can’t get to test out the different models, look feel touch and sound. So disappointing for a 40 year Ibanez guy like me especially with all the new models they have now. Even just the JS line alone is HUGE!!!! Love your work and your humour. I’m signing up.
Also, Satriani did come out with a branded line of Vox pedals but they have been discontinued though they are pretty good and I still use the Vox Satriani Amplug as my favorite piece of gear I own playing it through my Marshall amp with a auxiliary connector.
Part of the Satch sound is the DS-1 (his are modded of course), or nowadays the Vox Satchurator pedal into a clean or slightly driven channel on his amp. Though dialing in a fair amount of gain on the amp does a decent job as well.
The JS 2410 Neck pickup is not a single coil pickup. It's called a Fast Track Pro(Satch Track) from Dimarzio and is esentially a humbucker with a single coil profile. The push pull on the volume and tone knob allow for coil tapping and (HPF) High Pass filter.
What u need, is a Boss Ds1 on full gain and tone at 9 o'clock, Roland JC on clean with low mids/treble, a short delay, and one of satch's signature bridge pickups with volume rolled back. Bout as traditional Satch as you can get
great set up guys. I always wondered how to get good sound with out breaking the budget. I see a lot of boards with pricey peddles but no one shows more affordable sound. thx
Thanks Rabea & Matt. Realize you, Chappers & the Captain usually focus on the harder side of things, but a Sound-like-Mark-Knopfler would be sweet...ala Sultans of Swing lead & rhythm.
Yeah so I got the fender V2 mustang one and I'm going to get the GTX 50 and I love how the V2 mustang hint how well it handles and effects pedal I can't wait to get the GTX 50 I love the 12-in speaker sound better
Quick question Bea??? I have a pedal board for my bass with the wah first in the chain.. followed by, compressor, overdrive, chorus and lastly sansamp, do you think my tone/sound would benefit from changing it around??
Where does the Carbon copy fit in the pedal chain? Did they drop that into the effects loop on the amp or is it the 2nd pedal in line?? (forgive me, I'm new to electric and pedals)
Seems like you guys have been using the DSL40C on tons of these videos. I just picked myself up a DSL5C (I'm only using it for quiet practice at home), and now I can certainly see why. This new line of little DSL combos is absolutely fantastic.
Love watching these, really quite inspiring ( if bank balance damaging - because I want ALL the gear!). I've 3 "Old School" suggestions please. Jeff Beck, Robin Trower and ( easier?) Rory Gallagher.
I am assuming you obtained distortion via the amp, right? Would you mind sharing the setting of the amp? I happen to have that same amp. GREAT VIDEO BTW! Thanks!
That sounded really good guys. I saw your David Gilmour tone video a few weeks ago but you only covered the clean tone. How about a David Gilmour lead tone video?
Well I loved the pedals, but would you go for that signature over a fender or Gibson? Like I'm just just trying to think of a good a guitar that I can get good all around tones with. That can play heavy but also lighten up with some Jazz and that's just plugging straight into an amp, and the amps I like are Laneys. So which would be better and cost. I also don't want to be that guy who has a signature guitar because everyone I know has like a fender or a Gibson but the time in their guitars in what they want to do with them seems a bit lacking. Plus people as it seems don't tend to actually care for someone who plays a signature on stage.
some of the late nineties German Power Metal bands had similar tone, Iron Savior, Gamma Ray- maybe there's some phaser in there too? I know as for Satch, he used an Eventide Harmonizer
Hola dudes! Please consider doing a "Sound Like Santana Without Busting the Bank" episode. P.S. Loved the Sound Like David Gilmour episode and I'm really enjoying learning guitar from Rabea on Musicisum.
Isn't Satch's old pedalboard somewhat a budget board already? He used to have a vox wah, boss ds-1, and two boss dd-3's. Going for the carbon copy seems to be a more costly choice.
Nailed the sound on this 'without' video, moreso than the 'with' video. Nicely done! 1:57 Heads up: It's not the EDGE Lo-Pro, since one of the F.R. patents expired, Ibanez has essentially dropped their Lo-Pro version of the EDGE, and gone back to their original EDGE Trem design. 1:55 Love Rabea, but he's been mistakenly thinking that it's individual coil-tap push/pull pots for each pickup, but it's: vol push/pull pot is the high pass filter [for both pickups] and the tone push/pull is the coil-tap for both pickups. www.ibanez.com/eu/products/detail/js24p_1p_04.html
It'd also be nice to see you do a sounds like where the guitarist is a Rick player. For example, Tom Petty. That is a question I have a hard time getting around. What could be done to sound like a Rick on the cheap?
I was surprised not to see the CS3 on the David Gilmour rig, perhaps didn't think of it or was out of price range? IDK what the Boss ones go for in the UK (hello from Canada!) but I think David uses them (CS2) a lot. I love that peddle myself, magic. Think you can re-create Uli Jon Roth's sound on early Scorpions on budget... something like Sails of Charon?
how did u get the DSL to sound that way ? mine sounds like a tincan from hell without overdrive pedal. Did you turn it really loud ? im at bedroom level so. And I have emg 80 in the bridge so may that be a different story ? please help me somebody. I can't get saturation like that
I have a good idea: analyse all of your "sound like" videos, and check what are the gear that are most commonly used, and then you make a "sound like anyone" video....call me a genius baby
+Pe Peroni A digital modeling amp with a good selection of presets and an HSS Strat would let you cover *almost* everything... Not nearly as fun as buying lots of tube amps and pedals and guitars though!

+Pe Peroni Yeah, Ibanez likes to have a lot of different tones in a single guitar. My S with humbuckers has a 5-way switch that does: neck pickup in series, neck pickup in parallel, both pickups, just the two inner coils, and just the bridge pickup. Its amazing how every setting sounds noticeably different, unlike a lot of other guitars.
1500 is not a bad price for all that! Does it include VAT- or do you not have that wherever you are? Where i’m located in the States it would be another 130 bucks for taxes
Great vid guys. I appreciated the little details like comparing dime's whammy harmonic technique to satch's. Got a question, is his custom amp designed to sound like his pedal setup without needing the pedals? Like if you got the amp would it get the sound on it's own? Kind've like if I got the warhead or krank amp would I still need the racks and pedals dime used? I always figured it was the point to a signature amp but I've never had the chance to try one
I think it would be really interesting if you guys did a sounds like Steve Vai who as everyone probably knows by now was a former student of Joe's and is a very good friend.
initially got a JS100 to get a little shredder guitar .... was really nice, figured getting the JS1000 was in order, then, and actually preferred the 'ease to metal' of the JS100. So maybe the 'without busting the bank' part ends up with a 'just as good as' rig sometimes :)
Since you've done a Joe Satriani sounds like I think it would be interesting to do one based on his close friend and former guitar student Steve Vai.
Yes! A Steve Vai Sound Like would be great.
Rizzles please
They're gonna need Rob for that one.
Rabea can make a 2x4 board with yarn for strings sound awesome,.. ...because his tone is in his hair.
i know I am kind of off topic but does anybody know a good place to stream newly released movies online ?
why van gogh is working for andertons ?
I thought the very same, if he were a little bit more red headed, he'd be pretty identical.
Ayt. van gogh tends to work "ear and there" ;)
Ayt. I guess he has an ear for music. ha
Please do .
lol 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

I have a js 100 that I run through a DSL 40. I can get a pretty good Satch tone using that guitar straight into the amp
@@maxthecat1235 several interviews... since the guitar magazines from 90s to TH-cam channels
I've seen Satriani in concert here in my hometown (Toronto, Canada) last year for his Shockwave Supernova album, and it was awesome. I'm a big fan of him and he's one of my influences/favourites on guitar

This is the best one you've done so far, it doesn't get any closer than this. Fantastic job you guys
wow! that compressor + equalizer was a very instructive tip! thx, bros!
Really good approximation of the tone guys! You can just tell that Bea is a tone genius
Sound like Kim Jong Un please
+Kim Jong Un LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL What a funny guy you are!!!! Really, that made me cry with laughter! :'}
go eat some more fatass...
and get a new haircut!
+Kim Jong Un Does that require a Miku pedal? :p
+LogiForce86 That be racist, bro!
This might be your best one yet. Keep up the great work!
Bout time guys! Been waiting aaaages for a new "Sounds like" from you!
Do one of this list:
"Sound like Dave Murray",
"Sound like Jerry Cantrell"
"Sound Like Dave Mustaine"
"Sound Like Jeff Hanneman"
+Danilo Silva dave murray yes!!!!!
+Danilo Silva cantrell is bae :3
+Danilo Silva Marshall Amp (or Marshall JCM800 style pedal), guitar with humbuckers. Dimarzio Super Distortions for Dave Murray, Seymour Duncan JB for Mustaine and Cantrell, EMG's for Jeff.
Done.
+Danilo Silva how about sound like your self and quit trying to sound like someone else.
+TimothyPage06 Duncan livewire for mustaine

The Good Guy He did in fairness to him
+Thomas Carmichael ;)
That was great!! You guys nailed Satch's tone!!
This store is like heaven...
This store dangerous...
Jay Tee what?
+Danny Sands I don't know about you but for me the temptations are so strong it could easily lead to an empty bank account. Therefore, in my case at least, dangerous.
Jay Tee hhaha yeah. Lol
Nah, heaven isn't as nearly as nice
Love your videos, the attention to detail is fantastic!!! I love the inclusion of the links as well, saves me googling time!!! Thanks guys

I love these videos keep em coming , it'd be cool if you guys did a side by side tone of yours and the track. Cheers!
You nailed it guys! I think that a sound like carlos santana would be really nice, he has a great sound, really personal
Yep, good job guys. Good advice on pedal placement too.
good job guys. Although it's the 'budget' Satriani model, it looks awesome in white. Simple yet effective!
Quick question Bea??? I have a pedal board for my bass with the wah first in the chain.. followed by, compressor, overdrive, chorus and lastly sansamp, do you think my tone/sound would benefit from changing it around??
You're the man Rabea!!! greetings from Argentina
Pretty good job for sure, I'd say you would get that tone from any single coil type guitar-it's all about the pedals and amp setting.
Short, understanding, simple...clear...bravo guys! 🙂
was this the first use of the DSL 40? ;-)
Steve Reynolds yes
Where does the Carbon copy fit in the pedal chain? Did they drop that into the effects loop on the amp or is it the 2nd pedal in line?? (forgive me, I'm new to electric and pedals)

I use one (40w) in my home "studio" it's great.
Thanks a lot for this instructive and original vidéo, keep on rocking guy !;) jp
Easily the most accurate "sound like" =)
Great job, guys!
Thank you! It was difficult to get it bang on, that JS guitar actually didn't really help at all!
This whole rig down reminds when I was starting out and I used a boss Eq to get good decent sounds with dirt pedals.
Love watching these, really quite inspiring ( if bank balance damaging - because I want ALL the gear!). I've 3 "Old School" suggestions please. Jeff Beck, Robin Trower and ( easier?) Rory Gallagher.
Hey dude, I enjoyed your video, it's pretty cool. I wish I could play like the guy doing the demo ; ) pretty good bro.
awesome take on satchs sound! good job!
love the orange colour of the js2410.
Way to go guys. Awesome setup
Can anyone please explain to me how the "loop" with the carbon copy works? Where does it go in the signal chain?
Satch used Peaveys for a long time too, and only switched back to Marshalls in recent years
Well I loved the pedals, but would you go for that signature over a fender or Gibson? Like I'm just just trying to think of a good a guitar that I can get good all around tones with. You guys rocked that snatch! Right on.
What pedals are used for “Always with me, Always with you”
Great vid boys...cheers mates!
Do you need a volume pedal or can you just control it with volume settings on your amp & guitar?
Nice job! Love that EQ pedal trick.
Nailed the sound on this 'without' video, moreso than the 'with' video. Nicely done!

1:55 Love Rabea, but he's been mistakenly thinking that it's individual coil-tap push/pull pots for each pickup, but it's: vol push/pull pot is the high pass filter [for both pickups]
and the tone push/pull is the coil-tap for both pickups.
www.ibanez.com/eu/products/detail/js24p_1p_04.html
how did you tune the amp? i think you should start showing those in the sounds like videos PLEASE!! :)
It'd also be nice to see you do a sounds like where the guitarist is a Rick player. For example, Tom Petty. That is a question I have a hard time getting around. What could be done to sound like a Rick on the cheap?

are you just using the standard amp dirty channel? could you show/explain the amp settings?
how did u get the DSL to sound that way ? mine sounds like a tincan from hell without overdrive pedal. Did you turn it really loud ? im at bedroom level so. And I have emg 80 in the bridge so may that be a different story ? please help me somebody. I can't get saturation like that
Wouldn't a multi effect be a cheaper thing to use as you've got a few Boss pedals?
awesome as always! Maybe a sounds like Omar Rodriguez Lopez or Johnny Greenwood next?
Really Like those videos guys! Awesome job
How did they get Joe Satriani 's fingers? Did they cut that part out of the video?
Great video guys, enjoy the "sounds like" series
Considered using satriani signature pedals from vox? The distortion and delay? :)
What model Ibanez is that with the natural finish, 2 f-holes, and HSH pickup config?
Sounds like Townshend Live at Leeds
I'm soooo glad I have my line 6 pod farm I have thousands of stuff in guitar equipment and effxs
There's a great video of satch somewhere playing on complete beginner equipment and it still sounds exactly like him
I have a good idea: analyse all of your "sound like" videos, and check what are the gear that are most commonly used, and then you make a "sound like anyone" video....call me a genius baby
Hahaha I like your thinking!
+Rabea Massaad :D
+Pe Peroni A digital modeling amp with a good selection of presets and an HSS Strat would let you cover *almost* everything... Not nearly as fun as buying lots of tube amps and pedals and guitars though!
+quasarpuffs True, my "home-setup" right now is a Yamaha THR10 plugged into monitor speakers and an Ibanez AR325, which is probably one of the most versatile guitars ever. 2 humbuckers, 2 volumes, 2 tone pot and 2 tri-sound switching wich gives you 3 sounds pro pickup (hb, sc and parallel), so because you can switch the tri-sound independently per pickup, the "in the middle" setting is endless...you can get at least 15 different pickup configuration out of this guitar before you even touch the volume and tone knobs...and the THR is just killer when you know your way around it and plugged int bigger speakers...there isnt a single tone that this setup wont give me...and for home use you really dont need anything else..
+Pe Peroni Yeah, Ibanez likes to have a lot of different tones in a single guitar. My S with humbuckers has a 5-way switch that does: neck pickup in series, neck pickup in parallel, both pickups, just the two inner coils, and just the bridge pickup. Its amazing how every setting sounds noticeably different, unlike a lot of other guitars.
can you do Paul Gilbert please. It cane from seeing the PGM-80P when you were checking out the RG-550XH
I'm surprised you didn't use DS1 as it's a main element in satch's sound.. Instead of the compressor and eq. . sounds good though!
whats the settings on the following pedals (delay chorus and compressor) thanks
Great job guys! Awesome tone, Satch or not. I'd love to get that sound you had.
1500 is not a bad price for all that! Does it include VAT- or do you not have that wherever you are? Where i’m located in the States it would be another 130 bucks for taxes
Guys can you tell me why is there like two bolt or nut holes on the neck close to the headstock ?
it's pretty close to his tone, good job duds!
Great video and the sound!!!
Could you do a looper shootout video? That would be really cool :)
Awesome video as always. But, wouldn't a cheap processor work. Keep up the great work.
mark knopfler would be amazing, or steve clark from def leppard?
Sorry if I missed it, but is this all in front of the amp, no effects loop?
I think it would be really interesting if you guys did a sounds like Steve Vai who as everyone probably knows by now was a former student of Joe's and is a very good friend.
I would like to know your settings when you do all this Sounds like..
Not that I wanna copy somebody's tone, but fun to know.
haha you guys did a good job and good theme doing it on a budget. ..would have liked to hear you play over a backing track and put it all together
what setting's do you have the amp set on? I have one of these amps and it doesn't sound noth'n like this!!
initially got a JS100 to get a little shredder guitar .... was really nice, figured getting the JS1000 was in order, then, and actually preferred the 'ease to metal' of the JS100. So maybe the 'without busting the bank' part ends up with a 'just as good as' rig sometimes :)
i have a DSL40C also and i was wondering what are the amps tone settings??
