    Just an update for anyone going to try this rig. DO NOT add on a pva mesh stick or bag to the hook for extra goodies. It will kick back and mess up the D on the rig and make it useless. After watching the underwater video I made I finally figured out what was going on.

      I found when I added a small pva bag onto the hook for free offerings it was pushing the ring and pop up back making the rig useless. Thanks for watching!

      Brian Wingard you can use a mesh stick, you just need to put a pva nugget in the loop under the hook eye this stops the d from moving

    Top tip, the two rings of plastic on the spool (brown in this video) are meant to stop the line coming off. Just place the line in between them and you will never have to take them off again. Hope this helps.

    Hi Brian. great video. Question : - why the overhand knot and not the figure of 8 knot. I am interested in how well that knot hold under pressure ?

    • @BrianWingard
      @BrianWingard  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is just my usual knot I use. I have yet to have any issues at all with it over 30+ years of fishing. I know a lot of anglers prefer the figure of 8.

  • @ocshaman7323

    Do you think crimping a split shot to go over the knot would work? Also, putting a bend in the line before crimping the split shot so that uncoated braid could be used?

    • @BrianWingard
      @BrianWingard  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would say that would work as well. Try to get split shots that are darker in color so they do not stand out like the shiny ones. Thanks for watching!

  • @fastbike49
    @fastbike49 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    tip: dont cut the tag off the overhand knot... put your split shot on there and you wont risk pinching and damaging your mainline..

    • @TGSureal
      @TGSureal 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes you can use the most basic hair rig and still catch nice fish. The more detail you put into your rigs though, the better fish you will catch. Keep watching Brian's videos, he has tons of great info and ideas on the channel.

  • @carpfever8762
    @carpfever8762 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    hey Brian if use just braid for my whole hooklink without the coating.do u think the rig will still work.

    • @BrianWingard
      @BrianWingard  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should still work, you just have to be a bit more careful of tangles. That is one of the reasons for the coated braid as it kicks away from the lead some. It should work though with normal braid though

      Brian Wingard it’s great to see America’s embracing carp angling like us brits but unfortunately over here in the uk we are flooded with Eastern Europeans who see them as food!!!😡 I recently when carp fishing for the day with a Romanian colleague and before we went I told him it’s sport only catch and release. He assured me he understood but he caught first put it in a bag and went straight home!!! Needless to say I was livid.
