Just a quick note on the dark green walls. Back in 2019 my family redecorated our living room and we painted it dark green, we thought it might make the room look smaller but instead it somehow made the room look bigger and grander looking. so if you ever decide to switch things up later on, I think with those floorboards and that rug it could look really good, like a Victorian bohemian jungle library.
yes, not hating or anything, but the baby colors (we call this kind of bright colors like this in Brazil) go really well with white but not so much with the wood and the rug.
My office is a dark velvety green. It's absolutely gorgeous and feels huge. It's a perfect choice for a room with a lot of bright light.
I’m renovating a Victorian red brick house in St. Louis and I’m going to use the third floor as my office and library and I’m planning to paint the walls up there dark green. My interior colors are cream, brown, dark green, and some shade red (possibly). I have most of my original 1897 wooden floors, trim, and doors so I’m planning to strip them down and stain them as well because a lot of them are white. I know it’s lead paint so I’m going to use a stripper to remove it, especially from my main staircase.
Yes, if I had a home office, I’d like to make it darker too. A rich velvety color and then use a full-length gilded mirror adjacent to the window to enhance it. I feel like with darker colors, your mind fills in the gap of the corners you can’t see. Unlike white where everything is in full view and no mystery.
My home office is in a small bedroom and I painted it a dark sage green and absolutely love it, the room doesn't feel small at all.
I love how bold you’re being with the design choices in your house. They’re not my specific aesthetic but that’s kind of what’s great about them! They’re not generic and just meeting the lowest common denominator, instead they’re very distinctly Ariel! And I love how much you love them

i'd do a sage green in the library - a light, neutral green that still has color, but it's bright

This is so weird! So did I, immediately. A light sage. Wow! As to what she did, I think it's disrespectful to the architecture of the house, but it's her house.
@@virginiamoss7045 that's fair. it's not a choice i would have made in colors either, but it's her house, and if she's happy, then that's great. I just keep thinking that someday, someone's gunna buy that house again and be like "Wtf is with this trim" I assume it would need a repaint before sale.
My mom said, for that corner with the router, to try and find some vintage suitcases and stack them to create a sort of table! I think it’d suit your soft vintage aesthetic very well 🤍

Ariel, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. After watching you pull up the carpet, a job I'm quite familiar with, having done so in nearly all the rooms on the entire first floor of my house and then laying down flooring, I decided I could not live any longer with the carpet in my office. We have a cat--and old cat--who has digestive problems, if you know what I mean. Having looked under the carpet in our bedroom and seeing plywood years ago, I thought the same would be underneath the carpet in my office. But, alas, after watching you and grabbing my pliers, I plied up all four corners and discovered flooring. It may not be real wood, but it looks like wood, and it'll be cleaner than what I have. In about a week and a half, I will have a clean floor for the first time since this old bedroom became my office. And I have you to thank.

I found Ariel from her English degree videos because I'm doing BA Hons in English starting in September, and just watching her now doing up her house, I have an overwhelming feeling of "I want to grow up to be like her"

A salvage or vintage shop would definitely take that light fixture. I've seen those in many colors in different salvage stores.

This is truly a room that has been brought back to life in a very personal way with lots of awesome detailing! I'm especially in love with the closet/cabinet idea and definitely plan to utilize that in the future!

The blue color on your mantle is exquisite!
For the corner with the router, I would get a large vintage metal birdcage, put a little shelf in it for the router, then surround the router with fake vines so it won't be so obvious in there, but the plant leaves shouldn't block the signal.
Overall, your office looks amazing!

That is definitely possible. Perhaps a wooden cage would be more appropriate.
I wasn't initially a fan of the floor (mostly just because of the colors clashing) BUT as the video kept going & you were doing the room tour, it definitely grew on me. I think it looks really cool with the pieces that you brought it & everything really ends up bouncing off of each other and looks like a cohesive aesthetic. It's definitely eclectic & fun, and it looks amazing!
Just a tip in case you are interested, if not feel free to ignore it. Sometimes you can find decorative replacement floor heating vent covers from old houses on Craigslist or Facebook marketplace. Or New but look older ones on Amazon. Hope this helps in case that's something that interests you. So far I love what you've done with the place. 💜

Ariel get a cushion cover for the cushion! That way you can make it more 'you' and not have to buy a new cushion. Keep up the great content while you create your dream home!
I realize this is an old video, I’ve been going through these a second & third time. I love everything you’ve done & I don’t comment on every video but I do have to say in this particular room I’m screaming for you to keep the light fixture! You clean it I’d course & if it isn’t as bright as you want it paint the yellowish areas but please please it’s a BEAUTIFUL light!!!!! Just consider it. I was surprised you didn’t see the beauty I’d it & the historical significance of it…. You are so blessed to have the big things & the little things ( the light) don’t toss it. I would love to have it🥰❤️

Ron Gary and Scott reminding me of when I had some friends redo the stairs to their home, and we signed a random book and put them in the stairs, and I put my initials on a bouncy ball and put it in there too.

I love your use of color, the blended pastels are dreamy and delightful. And the open shelves are so much more airy and delicate than cabinets would be. Putting that cabinet in the old closet space was brilliant.

Every generation has defining themes. The silent generation had ww2 and the Great Depression. The baby boomers had the moon landing and the JFK assassination. Not quite sure about Gen X. Millennials have tearing up carpet and linoleum in hopes of finding hard wood.

Ariel, I'm honestly so impressed with your color sense. Combining those two pale, Easter egg shades of lilac blue and lilac purple that you used on all the trim with the more traditional, deep red and blue jewel tones in the curtains and rug - wow. It's a color composition that really sings, and balances the room between quirky contemporary and homey traditional vibes. Big round of applause!
You could do an accent wall of green for the fireplace wall. That way you get some color without painting the whole room dark 🌿
