    so amazing - absolutely love the wainscotting!! i would say no more artworks in the bottoms squares, but maybe some sort of thin long wooden bench that you can put cute knick knacks and plants on! can't wait for more home reno videos :)

      Yes, a long side-table would fit in perfectly! Would add to the regency vibe of the original Emma 2020 inspiration too, they have those a lot in stately homes

      Oohh I was just going to comment something long and not additionally frames would be cool, but I couldn't conceptualize it.
      Even if not a bench like a tiny floating shelf for knick knacks. For some reason in my head I wanted to just pop a bunch of really cute, colorful or sculptural drawer pulls on the wall? Just like, decorative sticking out sculpture bits? But that also seems silly.

    Absolutely stunning (not that I expected anything else)! I'd hold off from putting up art in the lower boxes - it might not be convenient when you or your pets are waking past it and also, it might take away from how spectacular the two upper boxes look now.
    So just spend some time with how it is now and see if you still want to try adding more in the future! Can't wait for the next vid! 🤍

    I think the empty little oval frame would be perfect for a drawing or painting of your house exterior....it would be nice was to memorialize your home. Wonderful job on the wall, it looks beautiful, lovely prints.
    Opinion - art on the bottom sections - I say No at this time. If you're making galleries on the other upper wall sections, it may be a bit much. Finish the rest rest of the room first, then decide.

  • @sarahnightingale3419
    @sarahnightingale3419 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I feel like a wooden relief design is what would tie in the bottom two spaces, adding some visual flair but not drawing the eye immediately from the awesome gallery. It would be a lovely, subtle detail that enhances the wall and make it seem so much more like a Regency era drawing room.

    I used to watch This Old House with my dad when I was a kid and for some reason this series brings a feeling of nostalgia that reminds me of that. Except, obviously, you use way brighter and happier colors than they did on that show! I love watching you do all these projects and see the joy it brings you when it's complete. It makes me want to take down the terrible, old, crumbling wallpaper in my room, patch the plaster up (because I know that's most likely cracking underneath the paper), and paint it! I cant wait to see each part of your journey with your house, especially the spooky room!

    I think you could 1. Paint the lower rectangles with pink, 2. Wallpaper them, 3. Spackle texture in them/ 4. Put some interesting art/ wands/ driftwood/ random things/ whatever you want in them. What do you love? Also, are they going to be covered by furniture?

  • @artvvitch
    @artvvitch 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Regarding your question about filling the lower sections with art too...you may want to consider that art hung that low down may get damaged by pets or feet, will collect more dirt/dust, and will limit your options with furniture placement should you want to rearrange the room. But your instincts with decorating have been so spot on, I would just go with your gut! Thank you for sharing your process with us, your videos are a joy to watch.

  • @lazygardens
    @lazygardens 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Using the molding as "meta-frames" for all the small pieces makes them feel more important than if they were just hung.

  • @shaniparag8059
    @shaniparag8059 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think the best way too see if art would look good in the lower panels would be to cut out some appropriately sized pictures from an old magazine and then blu-tack them onto the wall the way you would maybe hang the art. Then take a few steps and see how it looks? If you don’t like it, no worries, the blu-tack won’t harm the wall and you can just throw the magazine cut-outs away!
    I love this series, by the way. I’ve started doing mini-projects around my place, which I rent. I’m not allowed to paint the walls, but I wish I could live somewhere as colourful as you! The palettes you choose are always gorgeous! Xx

    I'd say instead of adding more art on the bottom wainscoting you should just put a little bench or console table? More art might make it busy, but also kinda harder to view bc it's so low?
    No matter what you choose though it'll be beautiful and we'll love it 😍

    It would be cool if you added some dried flowers under the circular painting on the right. The gap feels a little large, but the nice muted pastel look would make dried flowers look awesome! I would leave the bottom section blank as that line is typically a chair rail (especially in a dining room) and you don't want those paintings to get kicked, hit with a chair, etc.

    I love the way this turned out. I'm not 100% sold on the color scheme, I think for a dining room, darker, richer colors would work better. I love yellow, so maybe more of an ochre version would be good, and that would play off all the frame colors really well. And then I would go a bit darker on the trim color as well, just to make the space feel cohesive. The hallway color is already in a darker shade, so I think having the color scheme in the dining room in that same tonal range would create a very cozy vibe in that whole part of the house, and draw more attention to the hue differences between the wall colors rather than the brightness/value and saturation/vibrance differences. But the panel molding look fantastic, and the gallery wall itself is spectacular.

    Gryphon great job on the judges paneling. Once you start with adding trim to your rooms, you wont be able to stop as it's what makes the home have so much character. I LOVE all sorts of trim !!! Vary it throughout the rooms, there is so many classic styles and designs. As to answer your question about adding the art in the lower boxes, no, I think it will take away from the overall feel of what you have done.

  • @toanzhou

    Well, count me tantalized. I’d love to see another video set in this room. It’s so great to see not only the tiny projects and the big transformations, but how the rooms are being used and being shuffled around in the interim. That has been the best part of this house journey you’ve been showing us for me. I have a sinking suspicion that were I to take on this task, I would just have boxes of my unpacked belongings everywhere as I ate out of grocery bags every day until I could get things done. But even if a room is going to eventually have a different purpose you seem fine putting in effort and time to make things nice ´just for now’. This has spurred me to do a few things in my own abode that have been little bits of joy in my days where I had always balked at the idea of doing something nice when there was something else bigger that needed doing. Thank you.

    A delicate wallpaper with a yellow background (or victorian wall mural style) in those bottom panels might be cool! so they're filled so it doesn't feel "empty" but you arent hanging frames so close to the floor. you could mirror the paper on the narrow space to the left of the door frame too!

    I am a custom framer for a living and I approve of this gallery wall! The matting and non-UV protected glass on some of the art (especially your swamp print) does hurt my soul a little though lol. Honestly, custom framing is incredibly expensive and I can't stress how important and worth the price it is to protect one of a kind or meaningful pieces of art. BUT! I fully believe that you can make something look great on a budget and you definitely accomplished that. I am a huge fan of upcycling old frames that work for your art and you made everything tie together so well. Can't wait to see the rest of the room!!

  • @venturesinvintage1284

    I love these ‘smaller’ updates - makes taking on such a big project seem much more doable! It’s the odd jobs, the small steps over a weekend that add up to such a beautiful room. Now I want to add wainscotting all over my house!
    It’s been said by others but a thin side-table underneath the gallery wall would be a great place to display other nicknacks like those bowls you picked up. (Might even be able to store the other mini furniture in it if you found one with a drawer?)

    I feel like I'm vicariously living through you. Knowing myself, I don't think I'd want to go to the extremes (in the best way) that you're doing to your house. For me, watching you work on your old house is helping me be motivated to figure out what to do with my house. Originally I was going to do whatever was cheapest, but now I'm taking my time to think about what I actually want and researching how to do it and the cost.

    Hi Ariel, I just subscribed! I binged your house renovations last night and today. I am super impressed. I also bought a 110 yo home in March of 2020, and I haven’t stopped working on it yet. Pretty sure we would be besties if we were in school together. I just want to thank you for sharing all of this content with us. Lord knows I have enough content to share with the world too, but you are much more motivated and brave than I. Cheers! Looking forward to the next video. :-) PS: I am in love with the pink and green relief print.

    I'd say leave the bottom part art-free, it kinda stands on its own design-wise. Sigh, the whole wall is perfection! 👍💕😁

    I love everything about this wall and your house! I vote that you fill the bottom spaces with more fun art! I think it would balance the space nicely:) Ariel, you are amazing!

    I would say no to filling the bottom boxes with frames, it would be very visually busy and I also worry about anything bumping into the wall at that height. But if later down the line you feel like those areas really needs something, I would say a different color paint, or a bit of wallpaper, or even a mini handpainted mural in those panels could be really cool. I think a lightly patterned wallpaper in a yellow that goes with the walls would be the best option. Or stencil a pattern inside with a slightly lighter or darker yellow?! That could be fun!

    The wall is so full of character and beauty now. I had two of those oval prints, one the same as the ladies here and then another one. I donated them a couple of years ago so hopefully they got a better home than sitting in a box in my basement.

    This looks incredible!!! You should try to find a long skinny frame for the area to the left of the door on the gallery wall! I think that would help complete the wall and make it look more full!

    Lovely! I wouldn’t add art on the bottom bc I’d be afraid it would get knocked down by pets or catch clothing and such of passerby’s. ❤️

    I'm obsessed with this wall. also obsessed with the little Wes Anderson like transition where you were outside then the camera turned and you walked into the room. I rewatched that little bit three times!

    My opinion on the bottom part of the gallery: I think it should stay empty. It looks good like that! I love that you put the mini living room box at eye level. All the art is at a good height. If it’s too low you may not be able to appreciate the art well.

    It looks beautiful! Also no, I don’t think you should put art at the bottom of the walls for two different reasons. 1. Your wall needs room to breathe, right now the empty space balances it out with the very busy top, so it gives your eyes space to rest compositionally. And 2. Putting art and frames near the floor is asking for damage from being knocked, splashed, pets, and more. :’(
    I think it looks lovely as is, excited to see the finished room! :)

    It is a privilege to watch you transforming this house! You are so creative and I love how you dive into the mechanical and designing aspects of it all. You've worked so hard and it shows. I truly can't pick which room I like the best, but that shadow box feature is simply amazing! I knew the placement was due to the wall studs, but it looked a little odd at the time... BUT IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE NOW! A house is an ever ongoing project, but if you love it it's not really a burden. Thanks again for sharing it.

    The way you have renovated the room is just mind blowing. I love the gallery wall 😍🤩 I like it the way it is, I think having art lower as well would be a bit too much 🤔 but you do what makes you happy!

    You might want to add something from your renovation like a scrap of wallpaper in the round frame. It looks so wonderful.

    You should do a gallery wall inside your diorama on the gallery wall 💖
