Back in 1982, I was 20 yrs old and bought a '66 short wheel base FLEET-SIDE Chevy PU truck, totally restored inside & out, and re-painted with original GM paint.....NASSAU BLUE!!! Full custom cab with all the chrome. The man really had a vision when he chose that paint. Imagine how beautiful this truck was with the white panel between the 2 chrome strips running down each side, inside of that blue. I mean it was a real head turner. It was originally like a sea foam green. The original 283 was replaced with a 327. I bought the truck from a co-worker, and his brother in law had built the truck & sold it to him before me. Had the fuelie heads with 2.02 intake valves, a fairly hot street/strip cam ( I don't know the specs, but it had a nice lope and ran like hell ), 4" Holly intake, 750 single pumper, headers, duel exhaust with cherry bombs, and the original 3.73 posi rear end. It would only run on hi-test. But he left the 3-sp manual trans in it. As a 20 yr old kid, it took all my low pay to make the payments, so I never put a 4 sp in it. But I did eventually lock up that 3 on the tree totally UN-synchronized transmission, so we put another 3 sp in it, that was synchronized, and went with a floor shifter. It wasn't the fastest thing around, but it was damn quick for a 3 sp, lol. I eventually wore a cam lobe, so when we replaced the cam ( with a lesser cam, I was on a tight budget ), we discovered it had a double roller timing chain in it. The guy really did a good job of building that motor. Truck still had the original factory options sticker inside the glove box. It came with factory AC set IN the dash. Had the global AC/air vents ( like eye balls ) in the dash, 2 near center, and 1 on each end of the dash. The truck didn't have an ashtray in it anywhere. This truck was custom ordered. VERY RARE. Of course I didn't know that at the time, I was young & stupid. Sold it a 6 yrs later, like an idiot. All these yrs later.......I now wish the hell l had kept it & restored again. I have yet to see another '66 with factory AC, in person. Damn..................

On one of your other videos you said the CE stamping on the 327 engine block stood for "Counter Exchange." I used to own a former '66 Stingray Coupe with 427-425 engine, 4-speed, 3:70 rear. However, one of the previous owners blew the engine up and installed what he said was a 327-365 engine. I don't remember now (this was 1977) what the engine block serial number was in full, but the letter prefix was CEA (then some numbers). At the time I hadn't a clue what CEA stood for. I thought CE might stand for Chevrolet Engineering or possibly Crate Engine (since it was a replacement). I do know the engine had pop up pistons, solid lifter cam, aluminum intake, camel humped heads, chrome plated dip stick, ram Y exhaust manifolds. The distributor number matched to a 327-350 HP (so I was puzzled by that). My question to you guys is: Do you know what the "A" might stand for in the CEA prefix stamping? Back in 1977 I checked all my reference manuals but couldn't find that prefix meaning. Not that it matters now, but I'm still curious. I enjoy your videos as my buddy (who had, and still has, a '67 427-437 Stingray convertible) and I used to test our cars performance on a back road like you guys do. Prior to my '66 Vette I had a '71 454 LS-5 with Turbo 400 trans, Hooker header side exhaust into factory chambered exhaust, Edelbrock Torker intake, 800 CFM Holley carb, Hi lift shorter duration Crower SSH cam, 4:10 rear with B.F. Goodrich T/A tires that were 2 inches shorter than stock, giving me about the equivalent of a 4:30 rear. With the 8.5 low compression it ran great on any kind of garbage gas.

I'm old school kind of ,but if you guys think there is something wrong with the timing pulley pull it and stick a new one on.I was bracket racing once in the 70s and just couldn't get power burnouts one day...I quickly changed the worn distributor and won races the rest of the day...If the car hasn't been brought up to standards it could need a major tune up...Even at 349 hp its seems anemic to the 427 badge..My friend with a camaro 427 would barely bring the front wheels off the ground..It was set for drags but close to stock..I'm envious ,I own a 67 Chevelle with a 327...My 396 is in the corner....;) PS Yours looks and sounds sweet....

When new, the mechanical tach in a Corvette was THE most accurate. The cable is likely dry causing all the bounce. I would have thought 3.70 would be a little better choice of gear, plenty of torque. Aftermarket choices for Corvette are nill so I get using what you can find for ring and pinion.

Great upload. Lots of "eye candy" and the noise...intoxicating. As an aside, you gent's not afraid to potentially harm a #'s matching 425hp? I ask, as the majority of value of the car is the original drive line. I totally understand that an engine can be rebuilt, but there's no way to predict when a con-rod turning at 7k will put a hole in the block, in effect, turning it into a boat anchor....curious on your take.

Don't like tach bounce? Set up your distributor tach gear drive. Distributor shaft gear and tach gear need to be inspected, no imperfections (and preferably the correct parts #s for the application), ditto the cable, the best lube money can buy, and factory shims to keep gear lash in spec, and voila--no wobble/bounce. My '70 LT-1 coupe's tach behaved like it was electronic. I learned this from my friend who had a '67 4-spd, a/c 390/427 that he swapped out for a '68 L/88 motor.
BTW, NOT maintaining tach drive can be very expensive. Not in spec, badly meshing tach gears can break off into
oil pan, or cause complete break of distributor shaft, also traveling to sump where it encounters other interesting, rapidly moving parts. Seen it happen, and it's
    not pretty.

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned
from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the
Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by
reducing petrol stations to only one state operated central gas station
per city. From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned
too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and
gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on....
So no investments should be done in oil burning vehicles any more....:-(( (BABVVEN AND TEBBVEN)
