I didn't like how they gave him the modern Resident Evil approach. Giant monsters should not be giving you eloquent speeches while they are fighting you. It's always creepier seeing a character you know could speak, be reduced to pained screams and violent grunts. Especially someone like Saddler. All that work and planning - reduced and thrown away because he assumes a form he can no longer return from
This actually made me ponder something. If the original RE4’s U-3 boss was to be left out (and hypothetically not even show up in a “Separate Ways” expansion), I wondered if it could have made sense to incorporate some of U-3’s traits into Saddler’s transformed design. For example, if the Plaga’s claw-equipped head emerged from Saddler’s back (like with U-3) rather than from inside Saddler’s mouth, then Saddler’s mouth could at least remain partially intact and unobstructed. In turn, this would make it easier to believe that Saddler could continue talking during the final fight. For some other examples, Saddler’s own deformed head in the remake already looks a bit like U-3’s. Both monsters can lash out with a tentacle arm. If a Plaga appendage were to emerge from his mouth, it could be made to resemble U-3’s fangs and tongue. And if Saddler lost his human body’s lower half, then the Plaga’s body could emerge and sprout those four crab-like legs, yielding a new lower half that resembles Saddler’s original spider-form crossed with U-3’s lower body.
@@tomatoesofdoom The Resident Evil bosses have always been shapeshifters. Wesker, Saddler, Krauser, Miranda, all canonically have the ability to revert to their human forms when they choose.

Simmons was unique because he was the first person to be able to do that. Saddler retracted a tentacle while human but that's it. Even Simmons couldn't return fully to normal after transforming...
I actually love what they did with Saddler in the remake, since it put him on the other side of the spectrum of his situation. In the original, he is the one in charge of the Plaga-hive mind and knows it. In the remake, it's the Plaga-hive mind itself that is in charge and just using Saddler's body as a puppet to give itself a voice to communicate with. Never once, whenever Saddler was on screen, I thought of him as an actual human being. Not even once. So when he transforms in the remake, I imagined it as not him transforming into a monster, but the Hive-mind itself assuming its true form and its entire rant during this fight, being the Plagas itself giving its personal view of our "civilized society" and loathing what has become of its "own" world when it was alive in prehistoric times while it slumbered in its elegant prison underground for so long. I love the idea of us not just fighting some modern cultist, but some sort of prehistoric monstrosity which just woke up and is outright "horrified" with humanity itself and only wishes to return the world to a state without mankind in it, for its own peace of mind. A fresh breath from any other antagonist in this franchise, to be honest. Nice job, this remake!
That's not a bad way to see it, actually! Given how smug he was in the original, the idea that it's the Plagas in control gives it a good twist. Also, let's be real, man's got an epic monologue during this fight.
lmao, philosophical thing but using brute force to deal with humans? not so interesting.... They fycked up the game making saddler exactly as u said they did. theres no intelligent and weird or misterious villain on this remake, just pure hollywood-like monsters with predictable scripts. As soon as they made the first guy suddenly revive after Leon first kill of the game (the first ganado he kills inside the house),the game definitely turned the predictable way: "ok im gonna be beaitn up crazy zombielike-ppl infected with something". Not even 2 minutes of gamepplay and u already know everything about whats going on there.:. i miss the old suspense on the earlier version, where ganados were some kind of mix between conscious humans. and plagued intelligent slaves at the same time... somehow i used to think how good the game was just because of that simple detail....even that part where they also suddenly stop chasing u and say they have to pray, which was extremely WTF is going with this ppl. moment!.... clearly that was not the case for this remake. (tterrybad englisch at the moment sorry)
@@alejandroarcilarodriguez4554 Not going to change my opinion that the Remake's decision to make the Plaga-hive mind itself (just using "Osmund Saddler" as its face and voice) the main villain of the game, which also gave it a much needed characterization compared to the original portrayal of the plaga-hive mind and distinction from the other biohazards of the setting (the countless viruses), was an excellent move.

I absolutely love how they made Saddler in this game. The original Saddler was obviously a complete lunatic, but this one was next level. His speeches are just so creepy, talking about a divinity & holy bodies etc while all of the most horrendous things happen.
The original Saddler was actually a trickster, he was using the power of Las Plagas to get money and power This one it's a actual fanatic cultist, his entire family was formed by Las Plagas cult leaders across the generations + the Plaga Hive Mind itself it's basically the one speaking through Saddler the entire remake, but using his religious thoughs to recruit followers
It would've been better if they kept 2 things: 1. The amount of screen time he had in the original 2 his whole 'anti-american' thing. That's what people in other countries felt about the US in 2004.

After playing through the remake I'm very glad that they kept the exact same design of Saddler's mutated form because it definitely was amazing in the original. I miss the "Oh Mr. Kennedy, you entertain me" line, but changing him from being a cocky bad guy to an actually pissed monstrosity during this fight and these new voicelines definitely gave him more and more character. This is something that Capcom definitely nailed perfectly!
Yeah, in a way I miss the old saddler’s way of interacting with Leon like they’re in the middle of some movie lolol. But this remake did everything so good. On my 4th run through and it’s still really fun
I don't see how it gives him more character. Remake Saddler is religious fanatic who is a victim of his own parasite cult, while the OG Saddler made it clear he was just manipulating the people of the town with it.

12:38 That's... pretty sad, actually. They still can't escape the Plagas but the Plagas can't do anything without the central mind. And since they're more sentient than zombies, they're probably all sorts of scared. Poor bastards... It's a pretty good metaphor for cults in real life too. Someone may be controlling them, but for many, faith is all they have, and when that faith is broken, there's nothing left for them. Confusion, emptiness, uncertainty, all unfortunate side effects of losing something important to you even if it is harmful. That is a very clever addition, to show just what happens when a hive mind's core is destroyed.
It may be more of a mercy for them to die. The island does (mostly) blow up and takes many out with it. It makes you wonder about the village and castle areas, whether the same is happening there. But, Las Plagas has been rid in the area with Saddler's death. Unless...
You know something is bad when you kind of agree with the evil final boss... I mean, he's not entirely wrong. I have my own interpretation on this remake of Osmund Saddler. Osmund Saddler is still his own person. The plaga hive mind still needs a 'leader', which it didn't as much when it first existed centuries ago in Spain, when it was buried and died off - but the spores came alive later. Saddler, I think, is/was a broken man, one of faith - twisted, but still of faith. And he did wish to cleanse the world of sin, of suffering, war, evil and pain. And unlike in the original game, where he is more a cliché world domination villain (but in a way that still made him a cool villain!), here he turns to the parasites, Las Plagas, and the remnants of the Los Illuminados cult as a means to do all this, to 'save' humanity from itself. Humanity will exist, but will not have any endless infighting or wars, and Las Plagas and the cult will guide the world. Pain will be less of an issue as the Plagas reduce the pain the hosts feel, and with a strong, unifying will, nothing can oppose them. So I think, Saddler both wants a bit of power, and to truly save the world. A man of true (twisted) faith. And with the new Dominant Species Plaga, which gave the host their own free mind and will (somewhat altered depending on loyalty and/or falth and so on), this adds more to my thinking here. The host retains their mind, but lesser plaga override most of the thinking of their hosts. Their identities remain, to a degree, but they are ultimately subserviently, as in the original game. In any case, Saddler either had somewhat different goals at first, and later became fully devoted to this new 'religion', or he is was truly a man of faith, but a broken man, form the start. But also a follower of science. Otherwise he'd never have gotten so much power nor been able to turn himself into a 'God' of the Plaga. But in the end, no matter how it is all written - he failed, and he died. Humanity prevails once again, and the villains are defeated.
That’s cool and all, but Saddler is still an abusive sociopath who allows his followers, or his “flock” to live in horrific squalor, die off and be disposed when seen fit. As Luis said, he knows “How Saddler and the others have oppressed the people of this island. [He] knows how he treats them. That’s no way to live.”
Saddler talked about good things, but he treated people horribly, from outright having his followers brutally sacrifice innocent people and outsiders to him, to locking and experimenting on his own researchers against their will. He might have truly believed the world could be better with him in control, but I doubt the end result would been as pretty as he described it as.
As much as I love DC Douglas as Wesker, this new VA sounds so amazing. If they do decide to remake RE5 at some point I can't wait to see Oroboros again
Nah this voice is not amazing, he just sounds like any typical average joe. Wesker is better off with a James Bond villainous voice. Not only that did they really have to make him stupid by telling Ada, his plans and seconds after telling her he doesn't pay her to ask questions lol
Yeah, reading the logs in the village chiefs attic made me kinda sad, village was happy and thriving until they were descended upon by the castle residents
You know what I wish they did more with him? Make him an ever looming threat in the gameplay. Have him randomly appear while you’re moving about Alma style(appearing just in the corner of your eye. Whether close or at a distance but then disappearing the moment you move your camera on them) throughout the entire game. Maybe have whispers randomly throughout the game. You could have things like a random tentacle being quickly pulled away. You can even have hallucinations like blood pouring from fountains or a candle randomly going or or the screen looking slightly off. Certain things that could happen once and probably never again, even in future playthroughs. Even Ashley could suffer, having her randomly walk towards the enemy to be grabbed or panic and run around the area. You can have their veins well up when it happens. Something to show that while he might not be there in person, his influence can be felt. Some Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem X F.E.A.R. level insanity since this is meant to be the more creepier version of RE 4.
I absolutely agree. Even if Capcom wouldn’t want to have too much randomization so that the chapters could be practiced, even having a few short scripted sequences where he chases or attacks you in a nightmare sequence would have done miracles for his presence and creepy-ness.
Yeah they kind of confirm this with the notes on the Amber I believe. He's just the dominant plaga person. That's why he keeps saying he wants to give Leon and Ashley the joy of submitting his God's will.
bro i beat this yesterday and didnt even use the magnum, only sniper ammo that i had a lot and handgun maxxed, two healings i think and thats it, felt easy too, salazar was a pain tho!
I do wish Leon talked more to Saddler (and Salazar) in the remake. The final confrontation felt less earned seeing as Leon and Saddler barely know each other (they meet 2 times before this).
Saddler was in Leon's head and interacting with him indirectly throughout. Their first "official" meeting is when Ashley tries to stab him. That's Saddler talking to Leon through Ashley, and constantly speaking in his head since they're both infected with his "gift."
@@vicwaters87 I mean...yes? But Leon didnt know who that guy was nor did he have any meaningful exchange. Saddler was more like a ghost than an actual physical vilain to stop. Him shooting Saddler in their first encounter carries no impact since we barely know this guy as a person. Salazar had a more fleshed out personality but again, Leon said like two lines to him before the final fight. Him cutting off Salazar by shooting him had no satisfaction. In the original, when Leon throws his knife at Salazar, its satisfying becase that little shit has been teasing and tormenting you through the whole castle. And him and Leon, as corny as the dialogues are, did build up a rivalry through many exhanges and encounters. No shitting on the remake, i adored it, but i feel like "omnipotent" vilains are less mémorable than personnal ones
That was one of my ONLY criticisms was the lack of interaction between Leon and Saddler. Yeah he taunts you in your head, but they don't meet face to face until like, half way through the game. It doesn't take away from the final fight, but it was something I wish there was more of. :)
I legit just play it slow and just listen to just what he is saying while shooting at him. And legit. I really don’t care if I am wasting time what they are saying. I am just enjoying the music and how the bosses sound like. This is another favorite boss fight in the RE Series Edit: So I found some dialogues Leon’s speaks. Which he says “Heh, Forgive me my lord. you know I am going to ask for some forgiveness once I’m done.” “Because I’m about to Kill!!”
And just like the RE2 Remake, we see that when trying to gouge a giant eyeball, guns, knives, shotguns, and magnums are no match for a big pointy stick.

I think that’s because in the remake, we are not listening to saddler speak in the original saddler had control of Las plagas and knew it in the remake. It’s becoming more and more clear that the hive mind it’s self is in control. saddler is now a vessel for it’s will and what we are hearing is the hive mind opinions of the world spoken through him
Though I do slightly miss Saddler mocking cinematic cliches, it's actually pretty interesting seeing how he actually thinks he's in the right this time. It's very true to overzealous religious people.
Given that the Progenitor Virus is responsible for biodiversity on earth, Las Plagas would be the result of its mutations as well. Similar to how G is derived from Progenitor, the eyes are present in both. I’ve heard theories that Las Plagas is most likely just the result of Progenitor infecting an ancient and extinct species of parasitic arthropod.
I knew that merchant before the final boss was the last one so I sold everything I had and bought/crafted everything I could (even the RPG). 15 minutes preparing myself for THE final boss, I launched the RPG and the fight was over... That's why I'm here, I don't know how the fight against Saddler was so found this video to check it out

my God, Saddler got fucking huge in the final form, he probably surpassed or atleast got very close to Malacoda from Revelations as the largest monster in all RE games

This is such a step up from the original in terms of how powerful a final boss should be. In the original Saddler looked like he would be curb-stomped by a modern tank. Here it looks like he could take several of them in a fair fight.
I love the detail that Saddler starts to repeat phrases that other enemies and bosses used when you killed them, etc. I think the only phrases that he doesn't say are the ones related to Krauser, in a way he didn't trust him like in the original. Even when he didn't thanked Leon or something like that for kill him in the remake.
It could be because whenever you killed a villager it was an extension of the plagas, like a hive mind. Krauser worked alongside saddler but wasn’t infected by Saddler, he got infected by another BOW on a mission with Leon so that could be why it’s only Krausers lines which aren’t repeated

Saddlers monster forms kind of reminds me of Emperor Ing from Metroid Prime 2 Echoes, his first form resembles Emperor Ings final form and has new form resembles his first form.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention, also plenty of practice. At first, most people see it as unappealing, but once you become good at it, they become impressed
If I had mr X, I would send him to kill everything from the giants and maybe mendes assuming he won’t need to take the limiter off to take him on, but in his final form, I say he has a chance killing both Verdugo and This form Saddler, his overcharged Regeneration might help him especially with Saddler and Verdugos whos the real game changers in the fight.

Actually the remake version added another three claws to further augment the original model, along with a thorax.

Confusion, emptiness, uncertainty, all unfortunate side effects of losing something important to you even if it is harmful. That is a very clever addition, to show just what happens when a hive mind's core is destroyed.

You know something is bad when you kind of agree with the evil final boss... I mean, he's not entirely wrong. I have my own interpretation on this remake of Osmund Saddler.
Osmund Saddler is still his own person. The plaga hive mind still needs a 'leader', which it didn't as much when it first existed centuries ago in Spain, when it was buried and died off - but the spores came alive later.
Saddler, I think, is/was a broken man, one of faith - twisted, but still of faith. And he did wish to cleanse the world of sin, of suffering, war, evil and pain. And unlike in the original game, where he is more a cliché world domination villain (but in a way that still made him a cool villain!), here he turns to the parasites, Las Plagas, and the remnants of the Los Illuminados cult as a means to do all this, to 'save' humanity from itself. Humanity will exist, but will not have any endless infighting or wars, and Las Plagas and the cult will guide the world. Pain will be less of an issue as the Plagas reduce the pain the hosts feel, and with a strong, unifying will, nothing can oppose them.
So I think, Saddler both wants a bit of power, and to truly save the world. A man of true (twisted) faith. And with the new Dominant Species Plaga, which gave the host their own free mind and will (somewhat altered depending on loyalty and/or falth and so on), this adds more to my thinking here. The host retains their mind, but lesser plaga override most of the thinking of their hosts. Their identities remain, to a degree, but they are ultimately subserviently, as in the original game.
In any case, Saddler either had somewhat different goals at first, and later became fully devoted to this new 'religion', or he is was truly a man of faith, but a broken man, form the start. But also a follower of science. Otherwise he'd never have gotten so much power nor been able to turn himself into a 'God' of the Plaga.
But in the end, no matter how it is all written - he failed, and he died. Humanity prevails once again, and the villains are defeated.

Saddler talked about good things, but he treated people horribly, from outright having his followers brutally sacrifice innocent people and outsiders to him, to locking and experimenting on his own researchers against their will. He might have truly believed the world could be better with him in control, but I doubt the end result would been as pretty as he described it as.

You know what I wish they did more with him? Make him an ever looming threat in the gameplay. Have him randomly appear while you’re moving about Alma style(appearing just in the corner of your eye. Whether close or at a distance but then disappearing the moment you move your camera on them) throughout the entire game. Maybe have whispers randomly throughout the game. You could have things like a random tentacle being quickly pulled away. You can even have hallucinations like blood pouring from fountains or a candle randomly going or or the screen looking slightly off. Certain things that could happen once and probably never again, even in future playthroughs. Even Ashley could suffer, having her randomly walk towards the enemy to be grabbed or panic and run around the area. You can have their veins well up when it happens. Something to show that while he might not be there in person, his influence can be felt. Some Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem X F.E.A.R. level insanity since this is meant to be the more creepier version of RE 4.
Honestly, yeah, I agree. I think that would’ve been an amazing inclusion to the game, and show just how much of a threat Saddler is.
I absolutely agree. Even if Capcom wouldn’t want to have too much randomization so that the chapters could be practiced, even having a few short scripted sequences where he chases or attacks you in a nightmare sequence would have done miracles for his presence and creepy-ness.
I was really impressed with the boss fights in the remake they were all harder Salazar gave me the most trouble I was playing on hardcore

I saved as much Magnum ammo as I could for this fight. The final boss felt so easy. Took me only 2 minutes.
I made the mistake of buying the rocket launcher. The first phase lasted 10 seconds. The second one, I had magnum bullets, so lasted 10 more.
bro i beat this yesterday and didnt even use the magnum, only sniper ammo that i had a lot and handgun maxxed, two healings i think and thats it, felt easy too, salazar was a pain tho!
I do wish Leon talked more to Saddler (and Salazar) in the remake. The final confrontation felt less earned seeing as Leon and Saddler barely know each other (they meet 2 times before this).
Saddler was in Leon's head and interacting with him indirectly throughout. Their first "official" meeting is when Ashley tries to stab him. That's Saddler talking to Leon through Ashley, and constantly speaking in his head since they're both infected with his "gift."
@@vicwaters87 I mean...yes? But Leon didnt know who that guy was nor did he have any meaningful exchange. Saddler was more like a ghost than an actual physical vilain to stop. Him shooting Saddler in their first encounter carries no impact since we barely know this guy as a person.
Salazar had a more fleshed out personality but again, Leon said like two lines to him before the final fight. Him cutting off Salazar by shooting him had no satisfaction. In the original, when Leon throws his knife at Salazar, its satisfying becase that little shit has been teasing and tormenting you through the whole castle. And him and Leon, as corny as the dialogues are, did build up a rivalry through many exhanges and encounters.
No shitting on the remake, i adored it, but i feel like "omnipotent" vilains are less mémorable than personnal ones

That was one of my ONLY criticisms was the lack of interaction between Leon and Saddler. Yeah he taunts you in your head, but they don't meet face to face until like, half way through the game. It doesn't take away from the final fight, but it was something I wish there was more of. :)
I legit just play it slow and just listen to just what he is saying while shooting at him. And legit. I really don’t care if I am wasting time what they are saying. I am just enjoying the music and how the bosses sound like. This is another favorite boss fight in the RE Series

Given that the Progenitor Virus is responsible for biodiversity on earth, Las Plagas would be the result of its mutations as well. Similar to how G is derived from Progenitor, the eyes are present in both. I’ve heard theories that Las Plagas is most likely just the result of Progenitor infecting an ancient and extinct species of parasitic arthropod.
I knew that merchant before the final boss was the last one so I sold everything I had and bought/crafted everything I could (even the RPG). 15 minutes preparing myself for THE final boss, I launched the RPG and the fight was over...

This is such a step up from the original in terms of how powerful a final boss should be. In the original Saddler looked like he would be curb-stomped by a modern tank. Here it looks like he could take several of them in a fair fight.

In the original game, Saddler is calm, but in the remake, he is very angry with Leon and Ada
I love the detail that Saddler starts to repeat phrases that other enemies and bosses used when you killed them, etc.
I think the only phrases that he doesn't say are the ones related to Krauser, in a way he didn't trust him like in the original. Even when he didn't thanked Leon or something like that for kill him in the remake.
It could be because whenever you killed a villager it was an extension of the plagas, like a hive mind. Krauser worked alongside saddler but wasn’t infected by Saddler, he got infected by another BOW on a mission with Leon so that could be why it’s only Krausers lines which aren’t repeated
