    I just watched all the glp1 videos back to back and they make a very compelling narrative about the effects and an alternative get similar benefits without the risks - diet and exercise. Thank you Dr Gregor for highlighting these important issues and making them accessible to non-medical people like us. You are saving lives every day. 🙏

    At 0:38 there's a study-"Boosting GLP-1 by Natural Products. Top of right column: berberine, tea, curcumin, cinnamon, wheat, soybean, resveratrol and gardenia can exert an influence on GLP-1 release"
    He will probably have more but that's a start.

    All I can say is that I read a book called Eat to Live 12 years ago and followed the plan in it. I was shocked at how 60+ pounds fell off my body in 9 months time and never returned. You have to go through an initial period of about 3 weeks to bust through the cravings- but after that it’s much easier. Over a decade later, the bad foods that I ate addictively and mindlessly are repulsive to me. A key factor is the mind and education. I know how those processed “foods” (including animal products- the ultimate processed “food”)work to make you want more and to destroy health when eaten in quantity. I won’t touch them. Ever. I would argue that a highly nutritious, whole unprocessed plant diet is far better than a drug which works by messing up your body’s natural hunger and satiety mechanisms, not to mention enjoyment of eating. I view these drugs as another corporate money making scam. Greed is a key component of the disease of this country. It is reaching into many areas. Why can’t we support sustainable farming and real food instead of factories and laboratories? Food for people, not for profit.

      @bataattimanaatti5565 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@squarz I think it cleared some of the problems with comparing the drug version and naturally boosting GLP-1. It is not a straight forward comparison. I think the message was yes, you can lower apetite by boosting GLP-1 naturally even if the blood concentration is lower than with the drug.

    • @WonderProfessor
      @WonderProfessor 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +7

      Yes, it was complicated. What I got from it was (1) exercise is good at helping suppress appetite and (2) healthy food intake is comparable to the effects of the GLP-1 drugs even though at first glance, the levels from food intake and the drugs are exponentially different. The bottom line is we need to exercise and eat the best healthy diet we can.

    • @dianeladico1769
      @dianeladico1769 13 วันที่ผ่านมา +19

      Your body makes GLP-1, mostly in the gut. There's a nerve that connects directly to your brain that senses this and your brain tells you that you're full. For that, it doesn't need to be in your blood. The part that gets into your blood when you boost production through exercise and certain foods also acts on other organs. The shot goes only in your blood so it acts on those organs directly, including the brain.
      After you eat you get around 20nm in your blood. When you take the shot you get 20,000nm. GLP-1 doesn't hang around long so the shot has to give you a lot more to last a week. It binds to albumin in your blood to act as a time-release. The part that is bound is inactive. When it's released then that portion is free to act. That's why the shot is so much more than what you make naturally-it needs to resist being broken down and it has to last all week.
      So if you only make 20 does that even work? Yes. It's been shown that natural levels of 5-15nm reduce hunger to the same extent as the 20,000nm shot. This is because your body makes it exactly where it does the most good. It's a targeted process. Think of a small fire (apologies to those affected, it's the best analogy I've got). If you need to put out a campfire you could do it with a bucket of water and it's out. You could also get an airdrop to put it out but you'd need much more water and most of it doesn't even hit the campfire.
      Our bodies evolved to require the smallest amount of a compound to be effective as a precise, targeted system. Coming at it from the outside you often need much more to get a clinically relevant amount where it needs to be.
      I hope that helps. It just goes to show how complex systems in the body are.

    I love me some Dr Gregor, but this one missed the mark. Lots and lots of science and science jargon, but no practical advice on which foods raise GLP 1 levels enough to suppress appetite.
    Most overweight/obese people already try to eat less and exercise more. But there’s a wolverine inside us that wants to eat MORE. The meds tame that wolverine.
    If there are healthy foods that can tame the wolverine, please let me know.

      .. and sports. Particularly when fun (intrinsic motivation, doesn't trigger reward binge eating), when it heats / sweats and mechanically impacts the body (fundamental body feedback signals exposing excess fat layers as obstacles instead of useful energy reserves), and when fueled as necessary by HCLF (fat burns in the fire of carbs).
      Bad eg would be swimming, even causing weight gain by driving excess appetite: cold, no sweating, no impact, likely boring.

    Since there never could be a silver bullet, given disease complex being what it is, I suspect it'll be a combination of foods to consume and many to avoid, like the obvious, but coupled with just increased exercise, which is almost always a good thing, unless your incapacitated or for some other exempting reason.

    Note: endogenous GLP-1 (boost "natural" GLP-1) has a half life of MINUTES. Half live of GLP-1RA (Ozempic / Mounjaro) is 5 DAYS. So no, diet and boosting natural GLP-1 is not an alternative for glp-1meds if you have the disease of obesity. Even if it's wfpb.
