Je l'ai bien connu : c'était un homme distingué, l'élégance des manières existait en ce temps là, c'était bien avant Jack Lang, et bien sûr, avant l'édification de cette abomination de l'opéra Bastille, dont la façade s'est depuis détachée par plaques entières, aux frais du contribuable. Elle fut refusée, et, bien sûr, très vexée. Car depuis, cette remarquable chanteuse, l'une des plus grandes du siècle, est devenue célèbre, partout. On dit qu'elle a refusé toutes les propositions qui lui furent faites après, à l'opéra de Paris. Gabriel en fut marri. Trop tard !
