I'm so glad someone mentionned that. I'm due to face the CS in about (roughly) 6 weeks, and having worked in LE in past, have experienced OC. I couldn't believe how strong my reaction was to the OC (I didn't even wanna carry it) so I was not at all looking forward to the CS.
In any case, the point of what they're doing is to teach the soldiers that their chemical gear works (they wear it while in the chamber, and take the mask off so they can know there really was gas in the chamber with them). The general suckiness that is being exposed to CS gas, while an incredibly gentle experience compared to some of the actual weaponized stuff out there (VX is scary as shit) also shows them why they want to make sure they use the gear properly.
did this today for our yearly check in the box training. it's a lot of fun, we had a competition to see who could last the longest. it's much better to experience out of boot camp.
I'm a CO with TDCJ and we had to get gassed as well. We just interlocked arms in four rows of five, and took the whole canister. They say it's a mental thing, which is bull crap. My bro is in the army and they had to sit in a room filled with it, do jumping jacks, recite oaths or repeat their DS and then walk out. With how tightly grouped I saw the groups walking, it looks like they walk in, take the masks off, then walked out...
The most accurate way I've heard it described is imagine vaporizing Tabasco sauce. (Think of those little machines some people use when they've got a head cold). It's one of those things that sucks when you're doing it, but some time after, you'll kind of want to do it again...don't know why, but you will. And like some of these other guys have been saying, don't freak out and remember how to use your equipment and it'll go smoothly.
Haha, that was some good shit. My Senior DI found the video of my buddies and I spraying each other with OC/CS spray, yeah I got to stay in the gas chamber for a PT session with my mask off.
@brandonm1392 Depends on your medical condition. Some people are allergic to certain things, which could harm you, and in worst cases be deadly. So yea, you can be in the army without going through this.
@dieDunkelheit123 some might puke, some will pee on theirself, eye's WILL close, might even make your nose start to run. we got to enjoy this earlier today as part of training. but not everyone will react the same.
Have taken CS and yes for a second or so you do feel like you are, in fact, about to die. Pretty scary stuff. Inspite of what they say it IS highly toxic and is definately a carcinogen, also contributes to early death by eventual pulmonary embolism.
Once you've experienced the full volume of CS Gas, you don't ever want to experience it again. This is like nothing compared to the full strength of CS Gas(This is only about 1/10th of it).
A few months ago me and my fellow privates went through a gas-chamber similar to this.. Some of my mates seemed to be resistant to the gas. They stayed in the chamber for about 20 minutes, and did 50 push-ups each, while others stayed for only 20 seconds and ran out..
yea i love cs gas....im a chemical soldier nad went through that chamber nad it was the best thing ever ....i have a video where we are doin urban ops in ait this past summer and we go in to a room where they threw a cs grenade......we didnt get the full effect cause we went like 20 min afterwards
Man, they got the hoods and everything? When I went in last year at Ft. Leonard Wood it was just the mask and I had a sunburn. That stung. I'm going in for the second time in an hour. Woohoo! I can't think of anything I'd rather do on my day off than choke.
Lol CS gas can't kill. If you black out, the effect will wear off and you will breathe normally while blacked out. It's only intended to disarm/confuse, not to harm.
Just did 2 small grenades in an 8x10 room with about 8 foot ceiling a few hours ago. I now hate CS gas. Probably would do taser again before that crap.
Man I remember going through that and I hated it. I had to recite the company motto while the other few in my line all hit the deck from the gas. I made it through that but when they decided to hit us with it again while marching back to our FTX area I didn't get my gas mask on in time. I decided to say screw it and not even bother since it had already hit me.
Any FNGs going through basic, trust me, it ain't that bad. It looks worse than it is, don't freak out because it's not gonna kill you. It kinda feels like a bad sunburn on the skin and makes you feel like you got a bad case of pneumonia, but it disappears within a minute or two after you're out.
God i just had to do this for the police academy like 12 hours ago....i have to say CS gas is the worst experience i ever felt in my life...it feels like your dying.... id take OC to the eyes anyday over CS...
It smells like you are inhaling a substance that chokes the life out of you. In the chamber shown in the video, when I took off my gas mask I thought I was gonna die from asphyxiation.
People always say stuff like "just hold your breath" but you can't. They ask you questions and make sure you breath that shit in. There was this one chick who refused to take off her mask, and everyone in there tackeled her and got that fucker off lol XD
CS gas wont kill you. it might feel like you're going to dye but it wont. i get to go thru a live nerve agent chamber in a few weeks here in CBRN school. that should be interesting... MOPP 4 for the win..
That shit sucks! Ironically while one of my DS was trying to harass us with CS the grenade somehow broke his thumb when he pull the pin and he just gassed himself.
@Raguleader so you would disregard your own personal safety, and take poison because your bosses tell you, simply because of the way I present the information? if you were pointing the business end of a loaded weapon in your face you would expect to be called an idiot wouldnt you? but when your boss tells you the poison is ok and some random guy says you are an idiot then well its ok right? losing one such as yourself wont be a loss for humanity :)
I think this video is one of the better ones when it comes to illustrating the side effects of the gas.
Ahhhh cant beat CS Gas training, just had my annual dose this morning, good way of waking up!!!
Good instructors. I got gassed on guard duty in Nam. People grab-assing around. They threw one out of a 20ft. tower, and our bunker was downwind.

pretty sure this is ft sill
went through in january of this year looks the same lol
Thomas Jang it is that was my platoon

NBC all day everyday love that stuff

@Helmotivation they also use the CR Gas and tabun, SOBs
@dieDunkelheit123 some might puke, some will pee on theirself, eye's WILL close, might even make your nose start to run. we got to enjoy this earlier today as part of training. but not everyone will react the same.
Awesome this was my basic training class @ Ft. Benning, Georgia on 2006! Who posted this video?
Its affects to respiratory system. It is used in crowded conflicts and it is not lethal. Only military use
Have taken CS and yes for a second or so you do feel like you are, in fact, about to die. Pretty scary stuff. Inspite of what they say it IS highly toxic and is definately a carcinogen, also contributes to early death by eventual pulmonary embolism.
its safe to say there is absolutely no discipline in the army whatsoever...just absolute chaos with no uniformity or structure
@kevinwolfe7522 In the danish army, we use a gas which is about 1/10 of the strength the police use during raids, etc.
Once you've experienced the full volume of CS Gas, you don't ever want to experience it again. This is like nothing compared to the full strength of CS Gas(This is only about 1/10th of it).

possible stupid question, but what exactly does it do? just suffocate you...make you nauseous or what?
Ha ha! Good times! Is that Ft. Leonard Wood?
yea i love cs gas....im a chemical soldier nad went through that chamber nad it was the best thing ever ....i have a video where we are doin urban ops in ait this past summer and we go in to a room where they threw a cs grenade......we didnt get the full effect cause we went like 20 min afterwards

"Hi mom I love you" so good hahaha
would you recommend me trying it? Just for the experience?
They flap there arms so they can get Fresh air to ther longs fast right
?
I think its to help pump out all of the cs gas.
I guess its not that hard to make 20 grown men cry.
Lol CS gas can't kill. If you black out, the effect will wear off and you will breathe normally while blacked out.
It's only intended to disarm/confuse, not to harm.
thank....you
Just did 2 small grenades in an 8x10 room with about 8 foot ceiling a few hours ago. I now hate CS gas. Probably would do taser again before that crap.
this is ft sill right? I went through this very chamber... fun stuff
Had to go through this to join the local police force too :) Nasty experience
Man I remember going through that and I hated it. I had to recite the company motto while the other few in my line all hit the deck from the gas. I made it through that but when they decided to hit us with it again while marching back to our FTX area I didn't get my gas mask on in time. @8Dingerous8 so how did it go? lol. i did mine earlier today, it was a new experience.
Any FNGs going through basic, trust me, it ain't that bad. It looks worse than it is, don't freak out because it's not gonna kill you. It kinda feels like a bad sunburn on the skin and makes you feel like you got a bad case of pneumonia, but it disappears within a minute or two after you're out.
i remember this well...
Other than Rappeling, this is the one thing I fear for when I enlist in the Marines lol.
HAHA!! love that stuff! i get to do it this next week too!
It's pretty fucking hard to walk around after being subjected to CS-gas, trust me I know.
God i just had to do this for the police academy like 12 hours ago....i have to say CS gas is the worst experience i ever felt in my life...it feels like your dying.... id take OC to the eyes anyday over CS...
It smelled (and tasted) to me like a combination of cilantro and green tomatoes. I couldn't eat either one for years afterwards.
ever been in one?
I think this is Ft. Sill, but I'm not sure. Does anyone else know?
I'll take this any day of the week over being hit by OC spray or an OC dust-round.
cant wait for this
You have to do this in Army boot camp. Even after Boot Camp after the Army does this training every year. So ruck up and get used to it!!! HOOHA!!!
bmq 0902 just starting this phase..
its to air out you arm pits. cs gas affects any part of your body that is moist.
I had to do pushups in the gas chamber after doing my Pauly Shore impersonation. OOOOOOOOOW BUDDY!
I hoped for that. I had the crud when we went to the chamber...and it barely stung. Oh well.
actualy, some people have a resistance to it. You might be one of those people.
@gunnyEstrada Yeah. And they also said DU munitions were safe to handle. Just because your 1st Sgt tells you something, doesnt mean its true lol....
I heard that it can do some heart or liver damage.
yeah...at fort benning...its not that bad..i wanna do it again!
LOL! The drill sergeants love that shit. I remember my gas chamber experiences. Glad to be a civilian again. ;)
CS gas wont kill you. it might feel like you're going to dye but it wont.
i get to go thru a live nerve agent chamber in a few weeks here in CBRN school. that should be interesting... MOPP 4 for the win..
I remember doing this, it fucking sucks.
Respect from egypt
@bikerboyzx Basically what it is. I bet over half of them dont even know what "Gulf War Syndrom" is.
thats fort Sill
I did this with the Royal Canadian navy
That shit sucks! Ironically while one of my DS was trying to harass us with CS the grenade somehow broke his thumb when he pull the pin and he just gassed himself.
CS Gas its a riot control gas
this was soooo fun today :)
If you want to try this at home, by pepper spray that contains "Orthochlorobenzalmalononitrile". HAVE FUN!
A.C.A.B. man
i did this when i was 16 in boot camp! it aint that bad! we had it so you could'nt see the walls with gas!
@anythinganytime It is FOrt Sill
i got gassed 3 times in basic training. and i threw up in every event. Best times of my life. lol
(sigh)... Good times
why....is there a pause between your sentence?
boy I remember doing this. I hated it too. lol
My friend got CSed and he got in trouble because he kicked the door open to hard
Fun experience
Reason #3,456 why I got out after 4 years
@THEiNTRANETZ after you have done a military grade OC course this is easy
Lol omg your skin feels like it's burning you from the inside out. The absolute worse feeling.
@Raguleader oh well
@phoenix22567 I knew there would be a comment like that here....
@hez1919 My, you're such a charmer :-D
Thats my company thats trippy my company is on youtube.
look like fort sill
lol hi mom i love you.
That's because you were a grunt. Infantry don't care about structure. Most other jobs have actual leadership.
That is hard^^
@Raguleader i do have a way with people :)
@hez1919 It's not a very good way though.
@brandonm1392 No its basic training !¡
Mad Dawgs lol! that was my platoon too.
