Man, I love when Link's Awakening has callbacks to Link to the Past. It really drives home that it's the same Link, and that he was actually traumatized by the events in the latter. This really humanizes Link, in my eyes.
He isn't truamatized that much. I mean, he is known as the Legend in a later game living in Hyrule as an old man kicking tail against even the new iteration of himself.
As a kid, I always just assumed "the Bucket Mouse" was the name of the mouse in the photo hut. I never knew it wasn't supposed to be there. Oh, and speaking about Ulrira! Of you talk to him, listen to the noice of his voice and compare it to the voice of Shy Guy in Mario Kart or Mario Party. They are very similar, which is interesting since his wife says he "is a shy guy".
Okay, here's a bit which was exclusive to the German version of the original 1993 game. If you sprinkle magic powder on the electric blobs, you can talk to them (I guess everyone knows that by now). They say some nonsense but in the original German version, they sometimes said "GIB MIR DEINEN SAFT ICH GEB DIR MEINEN" in all caps. This translates as "Give me your juice, I'll give you mine" which was a very common phrase for sex at the time, coined by a pop song. Someone must have snuck that into the translation and it was removed in the DX version along with other regular "naughty" content like the mermaid losing her bikini top (and calling you a pervert if you dive in front of her) and the hippo lady in Animal Village clearly being drawn naked. You could see her boobs for a second before she quickly sits down and wraps herself in her towel. I was amazed how much "adult" humor had made it into the original version, but never returned.
Right? The hippo especially makes little sense with that bit removed. It was only a few pixels but clearly meant to be her boobs. At least the mermaid later says "I looked there before" when it's about her necklace but the bikini top thing was so much wackier.
It wasn't "someone". It was Claude M. Moyse and he was the former Editor in Chief of Club Nintendo magazine and part of Nintendo of Europe's localization department. There were other sentences too, like "NIE OHNE KONDOM" (never without a condom).
Don't forget about the MOYSE easteregg in the german version. In all other Versions of the original game there is a easteregg of totakas song if you type in TOTAK in the file select screen. You will hear now totakas song, except in the german version: If you type in MOYSE there will be a song of moyse, the german translator who did the same condom line... Well Claude Moyse really had some balls to do such changes
Cosmo K-13 I think that it was because it was near the spring of wisdom. The spring of wisdom seems to be very important since Zelda had to be 17 (or 18. I can’t remember) and she had a lot of faith in it. I think maybe the spring of wisdom had some sort of special power which is why ganon targeted it. Also I just remembered. Isn’t wisdom tied with hylia. I mean hylia is incarnated as Zelda right? And Zelda is tied to wisdom which can also be a reason why Ganon targeted it. Anyway that’s my theory
I always assumed “Bucket Mouse” was the Photo Mouse or his relative as a kid. Knowing it’s a mistranslation (of something I’d have absolutely no reference to) just makes it even funnier.
To be fair, both "mouse" and "mouth" are written the same in Japanese (マウス, lit MAUSU), and we can agree that translating an "s" as an "s" is the most sane thing to do, so it was actually Nintendo of Japan's fault for not giving enough info, not the translator's
It's certainly possible they could be hinting at something, Aonuma loves doing that (an interview he did a few years back where he said he wants to "make a game where you can be a thief" was a subtle nod to the existence of the Link's Awakening remake due to being able to steal from the shop in the game). I also recall someone at Nintendo saying they'd like to release something Zelda related almost yearly. With Breath of the Wild 2 most likely not coming out until 2021 at the earliest I think for 2020 the most obvious thing would be another remaster or remake of an older title. Skyward Sword is certainly a major candidate (though I admit to being concerned how they'll make it work on Switch in handheld mode and on Switch Lite models because while using the joycons for the motion controls is obvious it makes me wonder how they could get that to work in handheld mode since Aonuma said the precision sword swinging and such were such an integral part of the game's design they'd have to essentially redo Skyward Sword from the ground up to get it to work with traditional controls), another one would be simply re-releasing the Wii U HD remasters of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess on Switch as a double pack, like the "Zelda Gamecube HD Collection" or something.
Links awakening was the very first zelda game I ever played. Sooo much nostalgia. I can't wait to buy it next month. Amazing video too, I think you're one of the best zelda channels out here. Your videos have such a calm pacing and seem really professional.
The Photoshop was added in the 1998 DX version to show off the power of the then new game boy printer. In the original 1993 GB version, there was no shop it was just an empty space with no building. This is the one area where every edition of Links Awakening is completely different.
Link's Awakening has always been my favorite Zelda. And I found the Bottle Grotto music comparison particularly interesting. Can't believe I never picked up on it. :-)
The original version of this game is why I gave all my nephew's & my niece Yoshi plush dolls as my 1st gift to them after they where born. After all, this game tought me that baby's need Yoshi's.
the Bucket Mouse character created by wrong translation reminds me of Ermac (MK Series): The Error macro was never meant to be a player or anything like it but the players refused to think of it as a simple error and so netherrealm reacted and created ErMac. Just like the fishing dude from Ocarina of Time here - brilliant! When developers listen to their fans it's just wonderful
Calling it now, the next remake will be Skyward Sword. In a Link Between Worlds, there were 2 references to Majora's Mask. Majora's Mask was the next remake to be made. In Breath of the Wild, the shrine theme and Hyrule Castle both had themes heavily based off of the music in Link's Awakening. Link's Awakening was the next remake after that. Now we have a Loftwing statue in Link's Awakening.
Given the amount of references to older Zeldas in BotW Nintendo would have a lot of Remakes on their hands according to your logic. Like 20. I hope for BotW2 and then Oracle Remakes up next. Finally an actually submerged Zora settlement in the ocean in HD. I wonder whether they would keep the joke that the Zora all think that Link is a Mermaid...

Speaking of the Phone House. There’s a musical Easter egg. The melody is someone singing “den DEN DEN den DEN DEN DEN wa!” Which Denwa = telephone in Japanese! Like when you jump into the well with Marion in tow, the pic the Mouse takes shows Link's expression as he's used to cushion Marion's landing. Instead, Dampé's Shack took the spot where the Mouse used to be.

Cool Easter egg, when you are walking around with Marin, all of the songs are replaced with versions only played with the Recorder and claps, including my favorite, Tal Tal Heights theme.
This was my first the legend of Zelda game. I will love it until I die lol.. Im glad they didn’t change the German names because in the trailer they did.🙈 it’s a Little bit pitty that they gave too many hints, this game was never really hard. Whatever I hope, they make a remake of the oracles games.. love them also. Regards from hamburg Germany and i Love ur Videos 😍
I just hope if they do, they actually include the 3rd game that was never released! The it was supposed to be a launch game for the Game Boy Advance, but ties with Capcom breaking down ruined that
If you play Marin’s song on the ocarina while she is following you, she says the following: Not very good... Did I say something? No, you must be hearing things..

The Oracle games are among my very favourite Zelda ! I hope the fact Capcom had a big role won't be an issue for a remake.
I just hope if they do, they actually include the 3rd game that was never released! The it was supposed to be a launch game for the Game Boy Advance, but ties with Capcom breaking down ruined that
I did not think you would talk about the shopkeeper murdering a child when he steals a unusable bow.
7:56 just like Donkey Kong who was supposed to be Monkey Kong ahahagaggah!!
My friends always called it Cornhole Island back in the day, haha.
Happy Mask salesman is now shopkeeper. Ears, hands, smile. Not hard to miss
Yeah, I was really surprised how many Mario references there are in this game.
Got this game today and I've been playing it all day! It's really good
If you play Marin’s song on the ocarina while she is following you, she says the following:
Not very good...
Did I say something? No, you must be hearing things..
