Tucker, thank you for leaning in and trusting me with your game! I can't wait for you to get out there and let it rip this year in Brussels! The work you do in the dark when no one is watching will always show when the bright lights come on! Go be yourself this season, and most importantly... HAVE FUN!
As a shooting coach myself, I love the easy-to-understand fundamentals. I want to add one thing that I don't see very often. Practice shooting with a higher heart rate. In the game, your heart rate can be above 150 but if you practice shooting at a BPM of 120 you will always shoot way better in practice. I do forced short sprints and then shoot, rather than standing in place or doing short movements. You will never be this calm in a game. Just a suggestion.
Highly doubt some of you will actually do this but...I'm 36 played most my life. 2 things I noticed about footwork 1) curry is always moving his feet in a wide( think squat like stance) 2 watching tennis this past weekend I noticed sebilenkas footwork while she's waiting for a return serve- she does little hops and can get to the ball faster than most of her opponents. Which taken into basketball allows you to react in the air much faster before touching the ground.
That is a cool way to think about it, to look at a different sport like tennis. But it is true, the more your feet are moving, the more you are prepared for whatever is coming next. The same is true with a basketball shot!
I'm a belgian amateur cyclist (racer). Cycling may be a completely different sport, but videos like these get me hyped to work on my weak spots and get out of my comfort zone. Watchings this made me wanna do some core stability work again, which is something I really don't enjoy, but I know it works! So thank you for the motivational video.
Wow, I love hearing that! In any sport, or job for that matter, we can always improve. Even if it is only in little ways. I definitely figured that out this summer.
Hey Tucker, This offseason I worked on making consistent shots with my trainers, conditioning into shooting, off balance, catch and shoots, off 1 to 2 dribble and simulating game shots. I worked on making certain number of shots consecutively and always building consistent footwork and quick shooting form. Improved a lot and looking to my season at Prep National this year to gain more opportunities at the NCAA and Professional levels moving forward.
Let’s go, looks like you had an overall focus on shooting and worked on that in a bunch of different areas. That is great to hear, and good luck going forward!
Hey Tucker ! Been following your adventures for a minute. I’m now in my thirties, don't even play basketball but your videos are some of the most enjoyable and inspiring pieces of content for me, and I do tend to look after a lot for content on growth and self development. It’s great that you’d share this « wake-up call » experience with us, it does resonate with me in my own field of expertise. Definitely rooting for you from the other side of the world from my small island in the Pacific Ocean. I’m hoping to see you succeed and look forward to seeing the next steps of your growth. Have fun, take care and best of luck on your new chapter in Brussels !

Congratulations on another step forward in your game. I try to get my son to take more jump shots (the opposite of the advice that I was given as a player) I believe the most options on any team emerge when all players must be closely guarded on the perimeter. Never forget though, "Your best ability is availability." - Jeff VanGundy. Don't forget to focus on injury "proofing" It's way more important than getting faster or stronger. Best Wishes in your new season. Go get 'em.
I'm 37 and i hoop for the love of the game. Basketball is near to be spiritual at that stage 😂😂. I'm lucky to still be athletic and I'm essentially a mid range shooter (in game i tend to have a shaun livingston role and style of play). Watching that video i think i'll work on adding some 3's to my game 😁... Many thanks from Cote d’Ivoire
This summer I worked on 3 point and midrange shooting, finishing with my off hand, ball handling, and playing more "athletically". I also got a lot of pickup and runs in, because I used to have a big issue playing free and confident in games, which I've sort of fixed! Looking foward to having a breakout varsity season as a senior and hopefully getting some opportunities to play after high school.
I'm just playing at an amateur level but this summer I tried to improve my shooting and the footwork was an area I struggled! Most of the times I had my right foot already planted (I'm lefty) and the results weren't great. I'll try to do the 1-2 in a more dinamic way. And besides from that, really good video overall. Good luck for your next season!
Ironically, I hit EVERYONE of these point in our basketball practice tonight. Going to post this so they know it's not just their coach with this mindset!
I've been working on my shot as well this summer. I still got around a month till my season starts but I've been trying to get better at catch and shoot and on the move and off the drible 3s. Last season i shot 3s are around 45% but I feel like I've fallen off a little since then. I will admit that i get lazy sometimes in my shooting workouts, so its definitely something I need to do better at.
love the videos this one is really good as it really does explain that when u can shoot the game just opens up and becomes so easy. also just curious how tall r u and can u dunk
Tucker, I'm from Spain and I wanted to ask you how much time do I have to spend in the gym because I'm alredy on a good team and my coach says I shouldn't train more of what we train with him. I love the channel and thanks for helping me change my game.
Well are you doing a lot of skill work in your practices? An issue I see often is kids go to practice and it is just going through plays and live situations, and then they aren't working on their skill work as well. So if you feel like you need to be getting more shots up or working on your handle or finishing, you might need to spend extra time in the gym.
nice video..great info! so what is the proper footwork? i see some pros feet facing square to the rim and others are on a 45°. we've been working on shot speed this summer...increasing the speed when bringing the ball from the catch/pocket to loaded above your head.
Thank you! In terms of where the feet are pointing, I believe in a turn. I think very few elite shooters square up to the basket, so I would teach even young players to turn their feet and instead align their shooting shoulder to the rim, not their feet. Hope this helps!
Hi. Just wanna let you know you have a female fan in the Philippines. I’m 28 and I am back in playing basketball. Subscribing to your content to improve my game. I have 3x3 tournament this weekend. 😊
This "hop" into triple threat just before receiving the pass is not just great for being ready to shoot (your legs are loaded up as the coach explained) but it also helps you to attack a close-out faster. Apologies if this sounds harsh but the clips you show at 2:20 show your feet on the ground while you receive the pass while the coach is explaining they should be off the ground. You do this much better in the 1:50 and 5:10 clips.
When u say to have a certain vision or goal on what to improve on is it on a specific action like fadeaways? Or just shooting as a whole and how would you determine which action to put most focus on. Ty your videos help me Everytime 👍
Great vid as always. But the fact "that you can't run fast or jump high" is ALSO in you're control. You might just not be a natural at it, but getting on a good strength training program can change that as well!
This is true to some extent. However my game is never going to be one where I am dunking on guys or blocking shots out of the air. I do totally agree with the strength point though. Strength is something anyone can improve!
Your follow through is different almost every time. Some times you hold firm for a moment(this is ideal), other times your hand/forearm is floppy(happens when fatigued or unfocused), and some times you pull back quickly after release(nervous, just wanting to get the shot off quickly).
I think that is natural for almost all shooters. Just look at Steph, the greatest shooter of all time. He hardly ever really holds his release. I would urge younger players to work on holding their follow through, but it becomes slightly less important as you improve in my opinion.
@@TuckerRichardson this to me builds on what JJ Reddick was talking about when it comes down to footwork and being able to be flexible with your shot. I try and practice making shots with different speeds as off I'm being rushed or as if I have all day so my follow through changes. More time = longer follow through. I think as long as the ball comes off your finger correctly it doesn't matter what u do after that
Its winter for me, but still our offseason and i worked A LOT on my shooting. I only shot 21% on 3s last season so i knew i needed to work on it, especially my form. Im feeling a lot more confident in my shot now, and im hoping to bump my scoring up 3 to 5 points this season.
Yo Tucker this is inspiring. Should I just continue shooting catch and shoot shots (100 3s a day). What else should I add to become a better shooter. I only shoot about 45% during practice so should I just keep doing the simple shots until I build a good base?
If you really want to improve your catch and shoot 3s, then work on them everyday. But not just stand still, I would make sure I'm getting on the move reps in as well. Thanks for watching!
How do I navigate better past 2nd 3rd layer defense? I can consistently get past my guy but when that gap or help appears I either pick up the ball or pass it Im not aggressive to score on layups. I rely on my shot too much to where I don’t even attempt layups at times; nor even get a paint touch.
Well before your next game, have it in your mind that you want to be aggressive to score against the help. You can do this by being physical and creating contact, or getting to a floater before the help arrives. Intention is really helpful with something you want to do more of in games.
My two cents here, against gap defenders it's useful to learn high pickups or low pickups so they don't steal you the ball. Against help defense at the rim try to master floaters or other finishing moves like the eurostep. Also pass fakes to the open man can help you, especially when the help defender is "in between" you and your teammate. That being said, sometimes (or even most of the times) the right decision is to pass the pall to the open man
Hey tucker, you earned a sub from me! I just had a quick question. Could you go into a bit more detail as to what you were doing wrong in terms of your footwork preparation into your shot VS. What coach helped you correct? I feel I have the same issue….thanks man
Hi tucker Im a 19 (20 in december) year old male playing basbetball and started training in 2023. Im 6ft 5 and have tryouts in october at my university. Any tips
Sounds like you are pretty new to the game. In your tryouts, I would focus on doing all the things that are In your control really well. Hustle on defense, go for offensive rebounds, communicate!
Hey Tucker! I’m going into my freshman year of high school basketball, and I’m going to be the starting JV center. The thing is though is that I’d like to start working to be more of a forward. Any advice?
Well, you should be training all different skills, not just "big man" skills. So continue to work on your ball handling, your shooting, perimeter moves, etc. And then try and incorporate them slowly into your games to prove you are not just a center. I don't even like when coaches use that word anymore.
Hey tucker I want to be taking more shots in a game and I just need some help doing that. How could I take more shots? And how do you hunt your shot like what you were saying like if you were hunting your shot you would have been open how do I do that?
It is just about having a mentality that if I am open, I am going to shoot it. That is what I mean by hunting shots. So to make this easier, you need to be moving and looking for openings in games to get your shot off.
I am one of the best shooters in my city, but i do find myself missing when I get my team up by a big lead because I get lazy. I am rarely tired but I do notice my legs not being there for my shot, i think being conscious of moving my feet into the shot every time will help me be so much better! This video was actually helpful!!
I practice everyday my shot and when I recorded myself I realized that my shooting hand was flicking to the right or left and my guide hand would always flick to the left. I don't know how to fix this u got any tips?
I would say start in close to the basket and focus on following through into the rim with your shooting hand. Then slowly work your way backwards as that gets more comfortable.
Man, I thought it was all common knowledge. How is it, not common knowledge?? Basically, it belongs to 8-12 age groups. Nothing wrong with what you were saying the only ridiculous part is that you are a pro athlete and not just 10 years old sharing newly obtained knowledge. You take a basic shot development checklist and it should be there why did it miss you?

Well before your next game, have it in your mind that you want to be aggressive to score against the help. You can do this by being physical and creating contact, or getting to a floater before the help arrives. Intention is really helpful with something you want to do more of in games.
My two cents here, against gap defenders it's useful to learn high pickups or low pickups so they don't steal you the ball.
Against help defense at the rim try to master floaters or other finishing moves like the eurostep. Also pass fakes to the open man can help you, especially when the help defender is "in between" you and your teammate.
That being said, sometimes (or even most of the times) the right decision is to pass the pall to the open man
You earned a Sub ❤
Let's go! ❤️
The 3 C`s speak to every hooper out here. For me I luck Consistency and Consciousness. Being self taught is so hard coz u only have u.
That is true, and you have to be your own motivator. Holding yourself accountable is very difficult but very important.
this summer I mainly focused on shooting like my form and percentage and my shot is a lot better I got one more thing i gotta get down then im good!
That is good to hear, sounds like we were on the same page!
@@TuckerRichardson yup i'm glad to see you doing well I can't wait to see you in the league!
Hey tucker, you earned a sub from me! I just had a quick question. Could you go into a bit more detail as to what you were doing wrong in terms of your footwork preparation into your shot VS. What coach helped you correct? I feel I have the same issue….thanks man
Over the summer, i sat on my ass and didnt touch a basketball for 2 months (i still made my school team)
I mean congrats on making the team, but that is a lot of time you could have been getting better...
Any other tips on how to have a consistent jumpshot? Any tips?
Work on it everyday?
Hi tucker Im a 19 (20 in december) year old male playing basbetball and started training in 2023. Im 6ft 5 and have tryouts in october at my university. Any tips
Sounds like you are pretty new to the game. In your tryouts, I would focus on doing all the things that are In your control really well. Hustle on defense, go for offensive rebounds, communicate!
@@TuckerRichardson thanks man. I want to go pro as well. God bless you on your journey
I love your video, i'm 34 years old, is there still improvement of my play if i work out basketball training consistently?
Yes of course, you can always improve your skills with work.
@@TuckerRichardson Appreciate it. I’ll make sure to update you on the progress.
This summer I improved on 3pts shooting
How did it go?
Please reach the BNXT finals so I can visit you in the netherlands
That Is the plan!
i worked on my defense and ball handling and my athleticism
That is great, do you think you improved?
@@TuckerRichardson i think i improved A lot on my defense and handle but im not where i wanna be at there’s still room to grow
Always room to grow!
🔥🔥
Yessir
I am one of the best shooters in my city, but i do find myself missing when I get my team up by a big lead because I get lazy. I am rarely tired but I do notice my legs not being there for my shot, i think being conscious of moving my feet into the shot every time will help me be so much better! This video was actually helpful!!
That is great, glad you got something out of it. I agree, as a shooter it is very easy to get lazy!
Anyone got Some tips for a starter who is used to being a benchwarmer previous seasons
Made it of the bench thanks to you
Keep doing what got you off the bench is my advice! Seems like you are making a positive impact on your team which is great!
prob w dev booker he stopped shooting 3s!! he really upset me, that was his bread n butter , he started shooting midrange
He’s a great midrange scorer as well! I think he got his 3s up in the Olympics though!
I focused on finishing and make my bag depper
How do you think you did?
yo bro!! which team you playing for?? I'll come check a game with my boys
@@kingbonez24 I’m playing with Brussels this year!
I practice everyday my shot and when I recorded myself I realized that my shooting hand was flicking to the right or left and my guide hand would always flick to the left. I don't know how to fix this u got any tips?
I would say start in close to the basket and focus on following through into the rim with your shooting hand. Then slowly work your way backwards as that gets more comfortable.
uf underrared ah hell
Appreciate it!
👏
Sup Luke.
❤
Bruuuh are you from belgium cuz I see Brussels (misschien ben je een vlaming)
@@gta5cheats438 not from here, but playing here this year!

Respect haha
so.. workout to get better.. who would have thought?
Hey, sometimes you need a reminder.
want an editor coach?
I think I am going to continue editing on my own for now! Thank you though!
@@TuckerRichardson thankyouu coachh, just hit me up a dm if you want too! always watching your values!
My bad, just trying to give back to younger hoopers who are where I was all those years ago!
Read your bible! (KJV, preferably) ♥
this is staged
Meaning what?
Jesus loves you and may God bless 😊
