Hey friends! This was Magick's first time editing a Space Engineers video! How did he do? Any feedback is always appreciated! Sorry this took so long, we've been having constant electricity outages over the past week and they're scheduled to continue for at least another month. This is a common problem in South Africa (Google 'Loadshedding' for more info) and will unfortunately slow down the content a little further.
When I find a series like this on TH-cam, it helps me to understand my roommate's issues when he finds a good fanfiction story, only to read through it and having to wait for more. Episode 1 came up in my recommended and I watched it completely. Went, "Okay, time to watch the second- oh. It came out yesterday." It's a rare thing for me, as I'm usually pretty late to the party, so it's an interesting turn of events when I get in on the ground floor of a new series and have to happily wait for more. Enjoying it so far!
I find yield modules to be better than speed modules on refineries -- especially when you find rare ores, in which case you want to get as many ingots from the amount you mine as you can. Yield modules don't do anything for assemblers.
I also use yield modules on my refineries except when I'm drilling out a underground base then I use speed modules on the refineries with a sorter on each end of the refineries that will alone let stone in and ore's out
There's a Steam guide someone wrote including a spreadsheet on yields with different yield/speed module combos. It's been a while since I read it, but you can find it easily. IIRC, Fe and Si start with such a high base yield that they max out at 100% yield pretty quickly (mostly 1 yield, with a few % points left so a 2nd yield module would barely contribute more). Obvs full 4 yield is great for all the rare ores. I can't remember where nickel and cobalt fall, probably 2-3 yield to max out. But in any case, maxing out yield means getting 2x the ingots per unit effort spent mining. The remainder of the module slots is just for speeding it up as an afterthought. When I have the resources and demand for multiple refineries, I go with a 2+2 setup sorted for common ores and a 4 yield setup sorted for rare.
As someone mentioned, with how the yield stuff works for most ores you only need 2-3. With inventory mods you can have one for common ores and one with full yield modules for the rare ones, but in vanilla imo 3 is the best middle ground unless you dont mind building 12 refineries haha
you should find an uninterrupted power supply (UPS) in case of power cut. you won't be able to get trough a power cut longer than an hour or two ( depending on what you get ) but it'll let you know when there is a power cut and you will be able to save your work before running out of backup power
When you have a circle reticle on screen press Right Mouse Button, The circle will cycle from 12 oclock clockwise ( must keep circle in view until complete ) then you are locked mate
if the circle you mean is green then that's the vanilla that one got replaced with the weaponcore mod that mod is using a diffrent system and is insta locked on and with that lock you have some info about the locked grid on your hud i'm affriad that is where my knowlega of weaponcores locking system ends
Tip for your losing power: Get an UPS. Yes, they can be expensive, but it makes sure your whole setup keeps running long enough to at least save your stuff :)
As far as the grinder goes I think you should use the tier 3 for breaking down ships and whatnot but use a basic grinder when you go on boarding missions
Hahah “Need Help” was already a perfect name for the little assault ship you captured. Edit: If you start getting notifications on your videos for comments one after another, I’m binge watching your series 😊
I really enjoy this series. It's much more fun to see a little bit of waffling about and good-spirited nonsense than to watch S7E01 of Space Engineers where the player just jumps 37 steps ahead because they knew everything there is to know. At least to me, who hasn't really played SE myself.
No idea how financially viable it is, but have you considered something like a universal power source backup battery thingie for when you lose power? That could make it so there's enough time to still save and stop the recording.
I've got one! Well, a 3kw inverter and some beefy batteries. Unfortunately it's not *always* able to switch to battery power fast enough to stop the pc dropping for just a second. This behemoth draws nearly 700w when recording at 1440p. I've bumped it down to 1080 to try and mitigate the problem. A second, more purpose-built UPS in between the two would be the solution. It could charge off the main bank and is specced to switch a lot faster
@LargelyUnemployed I'll let you know when I find a vanometric power cell from the local Archotech😅 I used to sell industrial grade hardware like that power source for server storage, that might do the trick but also cost a bit much.
Congrats! I watched the whole video without skipping at all, and this is probably one of, if not the, longest gaming video (ignoring streams) that I have watched in one sitting! Very rapidly becoming one of my favourite TH-camrs, keep up the amazing work!
I had to take a very long break from space engineers (eg almost 3 years) due to certain communities, your videos have single handily made me want to play this game once again, been enjoying your shenanigans keep up the great work
I just got back into it myself lol. Bit late on the reply but if you've not gotten into a server yet I'm playing on a cross play server, I can't remember exactly which one but I know it's the USA #1 if anyone wants to join. User is same as here!
Belly drills are fun. I usually have a tuck away belly drill on a hinge and piston on my large vessels for quick fuel scooping resource pick up if i dont want take the miner out.
@@LargelyUnemployed I don't get klang very often anymore I imagine one day Klang will come for me hard for the all the times I've avoided it's grasp. Poof is more a problem sometimes my sub grids will just straight up disappear 🤣
The more ideal module configuration is one speed module, one power module and two productivity modules. The productivity modules you especially want, because with the refinery, they squeeze more ingots per ounce (or gram) of ore. Edit: You did build a yield module, so all is good.
I'm so happy the channel is growing. It's nice to see that you get recognition for all the hard work you do. I came here from 100 days on moon in Rimworld, but I stayed for you:) Looking forward to more content! P.S Shout out to Magick - you are amazing dude. I tried editing my videos back in a day and it was hell. People love you!
26:18, Building a Miner would be good to do at space station if its still here. Becasue you could use parts of the Station for the ship. also have a few large storage on the station to hold the parts till your ready to use them to Expand your ship.
I know I'm a bit late to the party, and you've probably already addressed it in later episodes, but the thrusters *DO* indeed consume fuel at idle, but it's such a small drain even a single tank at 1% capacity will keep a hundred thrusters burning for literal weeks. It's so inconsequential that it might as well be no drain, but it *does* drain.
My favorite loadout on freelancer was a cargo ship with the best weapons/shield I could afford while it can't turn it'll blast you away before you can approach.
Well well, another rare find. I say this because most space engineers youtubers put me to sleep (don't get me wrong i love the game) besides captain jack and others like him and you sir are quite entertaining ^^ So keep up the good work, I love the series so far and your channel has become a welcomed addition to my subscription list.
Considering the explosion went off on the station when you hit it with that one missile that did what it was supposed to, there's a chance those weren't warheads but cargo containers with ammunition or explosives in them, or other similar thing (if you didn't know, destroying a container holding explosives or ammunition will cause it to explode with a force that depends on how much is in it - hydrogen tanks and I think also reactors do the same)
Re: Grinding speed, I say keep it -- full speed ahead! You can use a feature of the Advanced Welding mod to lock your grinder onto a block targeted with your engineer's crosshair. Hold right-click to lock, then left-click as usual to grind. This will grind ONLY the block you've locked onto. After it's gone, the grinder anim action will continue, but won't grind anything else until you let go of right-click. Good for avoiding grinding down unbuildable NPC-only thrusters, deck plates you're standing on, or reactors/etc adjacent to your target block. :D (It's been a few months since I played, so just watch for the mod's text notification that pops up when you first load into the world) Not sure if you know this, but hand grinding a moment too long via indiscriminate vanilla clicking can lead to briefly grinding whatever components pop out of the inventory of a block that's just been ground down. This destroys the components, and in the case of ammo and rockets, they will blow up. I'm halfway through now, and look forward to seeing whether more explosions are triggered now or in the next episode. Great 0 g mining hack with the slow ship drift. Easier than building a static drilling rig in a gravity well. :D Large grid drills are almost always my go-to. :D As you gleefully noted, a few moments of running the drill floods you with stone that would have taken aaages to hand-mine AND automatically picks up the stone/ore (I personally particularly dislike having to chase down tumbling/drifting stone/ore). I don't know why viewers love to make content creators suffer going through the motions of using a hand drill. Maybe it's schadenfreude, making them feel better about having spent so many hours of their own lives on it. :P On new world starts, I usu prefer to rush a small grid drill block on the landing pod/rover, then rush a static large grid drill. Barring any situational special cases. H2 thruster do drain H2 fuel on idle, but it's measured in microliters per second. I think it's so that player ships left on a server will slowly tick down a few liters per hour IRL. Won't really matter if you're loading up the game world for each session. In your current situation (well, prior to the next ep that's already posted), I'd vote no speed modules on the refinery for now since 1 speed module is equal to adding an entire additional refinery in both throughput and power consumption. Only power and yield modules until you're rolling in extra power. Possibly 2 power + 1 speed on the assembler (as others have commented, yield on assembler = null result). Editing to time lapse tedious bits (control panel setup) is perfect. Maybe once you settle into the gameplay loop, include bigger grinding/welding projects too. I always love the editorial commentary!
Great content and editing as always guys! With regards to the contracts, check your settings and make sure economy settings are enabled fully. And I find the T4 grinder good for raiding/breaking down wrecks, but tend to use a T2 grinder when im working on my builds as it truly sucks to have that welder go brrrr and detach a chunk off your ship 😢
So, there is no guided missile in space engineers, what people usually do is build a grid that can run towards the enemy and explode itself, like a torpedo, there is some scripts for it, or u can play with the AI update
Ever thought about investing in an uninterruptible power source? My house's power grid used to be complete garbage, and cut out frequently, so I had a small UPS, to give me time to save stuff and power down properly.
I’m loving this series! I needed more space engineers content, and this is delivering that sweet sweet spacey engineery goodness! Keep up the great work! 👍
I'm loving your series. Looks like you need to invest in a UPS so you have a few minutes to save and safely shut down your pc when "electricity go bye-bye"...
Ever thought of making Auto Disassemblers Machines that wonder around the space, dismantling every spaceship they meet and calling each other so whenever one ship is located, it will get swarmed by little disassemblers drones?
I'm surprised you don't have a UPS for your computer if your power situation is that bad. It won't let you run long, but it does let you safely shut things down.
Oh yeah that also reminds me there was also a mod that made your inventory size two or three times bigger than it was just a suggestion to probably at that as well if your CPU can handle
The high grinding speed would be a very important feature of boarding missions and taking control of ships, I think you should keep it. Regarding the destroyed station, Scrapping it is a good idea, just expanding your ship may be wise, I would be impressed to see you in a gigantic cargo ship by the next few episodes. Really great video, can't wait to watch the next ones!
hi! i have just found your channel and managed to binge all your SE videos, they're great! i have been dying for a good SE series for a while now as i don't have the time to play myself because of my long work hours. I hope your chanel gets the attention it deserves soon!
btw, idk if you noticed but when you make purchases it doesn't take the money out of your inventory, it takes it out of your balance. So it's a better idea to stick all your money in an atm. The only purpose that I can find for physical bucks is player to player trading
Revers look for antenna signals.... they see movement within 2k.... they will track the first contact they see and keep after it until they de-spawn The "shipyard services" stations are not the "trade station" that have the contracts (as of yet)... suit upgrades not only require SC the have to be researched ** somehow **
While I have enjoyed your previous 2 videos, having just found this series today, I left my like on this video when I did solely because of Magic's threat.
@@LargelyUnemployed I think I also clicked the like button on the first two as well, but the threat reminded me to come out of full screen and actually click it right then.
33:10 Yield modules are useless for assemblers, only refineries benefits from yield. Assemblers only use power and speed mods *I usually put 2-2 speed-power until i get reactors then go full speed. For refineries, in the beginning is the same 2-2 speed-power, then i switch power to yields and have 2 speed and 2 yields (when i play single player ofc). When on MP servers, all refineries goes full speed, the reason is to compensate the time for quantity, I rather go few more trips mining then wait all day for refining :D
"I mean there probably is at least two of you" lol omfg that had me going 😆. Love the content dude! Only just found your channel yesterday and I've been binge watching all your stuff! Keep up the great work to you and Magic the editor!
I enjoyed this video. I'm glad your channel is growing as you certainly put the effort in to deserve it- I can tell from how you kept me entertained from start to finish. I hope you are doing well wherever you are and whatever you're doing at the moment. Have a wonderful day.
The vanilla rocket launcher (reloadable/turret) is not tracking ** unless moded to do so** .. Once fired it will go straight for the point of origin... The + symbol in the cockpit is a reference point.... the actual point is for top launchers is just above left and right of the + same with it fixed mount Gatling (the turreted version have the control that has the camera view ** in the center of fire **) rr --> x LE + Gat -- > x
I would say about maybe 5 or 10 years back when I used to play space engineers now I just watch everybody else do stuff, there was a mod for auto collecting what you've mined and there was also a mod for color-coding the different ores. I'm not sure if that's still active and working properly. There are also used to be a mod for a 9 by 9 by 9 cargo container I don't know if that's still a thing. I think it would be an interesting option to add into there as well. They're going to just suggest III mods I had to use that's all if you able to find them again and if they're still working and available of course.
Missiles are to big to be pulled through small port conveyer ports ... I believe that the downwards facing launchers had already fired before you took control.. The 4 mins of power is likely the shields once you power the reactor in the setting in the shield controller changed power setting from Kw --> Gw (Tw) I don't go above tier2 grinder ...because of the the speed of the the tier 3... the chance of over- grinding possibility
Thanks! I've already got a 3kw inverter and some beefy batteries, and it's just sometimes not able to cycle fast enough when the power drops. An in-line UPS might be the solution!
Series is looking great so far :) As for the grinder - it's probably a little jarring because you did jump straight to tier 3 :D Personally, I think it's fine.
You motivated me to do the challenge for myself. Had a mishap after acquiring a ship and all the nice amenities. I wanted to move my survival kit and forgot to replace it. Died long after 😭 so let's hope my save wasn't that long ago!

@@LargelyUnemployed The control panel has a thing to prevent connectors/mag pads from listening to the parking signals (for base connectors)
Why yes, I am binging this series AND subscribed to the workshop collection as an excuse to dive back into Space Engineers
The yield module is doing nothing on the assembler. This is also stated inside the build menu as far as i remember 😄
Ever thought of making Auto Disassemblers Machines that wonder around the space, dismantling every spaceship they meet and calling each other so whenever one ship is located, it will get swarmed by little disassemblers drones?
That sounds incredible, and would a absolutely require custom code, or a bigger brain, neither of which I possess.
I like adding after component nobar singleline to clean it up
Also inventory can have an ore and ingot category. Helps keep track of what Im short of.
I'm surprised you don't have a UPS for your computer if your power situation is that bad.
It won't let you run long, but it does let you safely shut things down.
Eskom should hire you to work on their power. Also, happy to see a SA channel growing, enjoying your stuff.
Oh yeah that also reminds me there was also a mod that made your inventory size two or three times bigger than it was just a suggestion to probably at that as well if your CPU can handle
54:54 i have noticed on my end all the times i used the mod that makes trading stations they never have contracts
19:56 that planet looks like its burning in the sun light😮
hi! i have just found your channel and managed to binge all your SE videos, they're great! i have been dying for a good SE series for a while now as i don't have the time to play myself because of my long work hours. I hope your chanel gets the attention it deserves soon!
Thank you so much! That's so cool to hear. Hope the rest of it doesn't disappoint
btw, idk if you noticed but when you make purchases it doesn't take the money out of your inventory, it takes it out of your balance. So it's a better idea to stick all your money in an atm. The only purpose that I can find for physical bucks is player to player trading
"Is that a warhead?"
*Proceeds to open fire*
"fire into the void for no good reason" there's always a good reason! it's called weapons testing!
Can't miss what you're aiming at if you don't aim 🧠
You don't need to fully remove anything that you want to keep. Just grind below the hack line and repair it back up.
yeah. that. yes. moar !
Thanks for the content!
Revers look for antenna signals.... they see movement within 2k.... they will track the first contact they see and keep after it until they de-spawn
The "shipyard services" stations are not the "trade station" that have the contracts (as of yet)... suit upgrades not only require SC the have to be researched ** somehow **
34:51 i did not expect a taylor swift reference in space engineers
While I have enjoyed your previous 2 videos, having just found this series today, I left my like on this video when I did solely because of Magic's threat.
I edited the first two and he's much better at it hahaha
@@LargelyUnemployed I think I also clicked the like button on the first two as well, but the threat reminded me to come out of full screen and actually click it right then.
33:10 Yield modules are useless for assemblers, only refineries benefits from yield. Assemblers only use power and speed mods *I usually put 2-2 speed-power until i get reactors then go full speed.
For refineries, in the beginning is the same 2-2 speed-power, then i switch power to yields and have 2 speed and 2 yields (when i play single player ofc). When on MP servers, all refineries goes full speed, the reason is to compensate
the time for quantity, I rather go few more trips mining then wait all day for refining :D
45:06 I wasn’t aware this could happen I am just starting to watch people play this game so I don’t know much
"I mean there probably is at least two of you" lol omfg that had me going 😆. Love the content dude! Only just found your channel yesterday and I've been binge watching all your stuff! Keep up the great work to you and Magic the editor!
The first 3 notes of the intro theme sound like the start of end times ngl
That upgrade meme had me rolling! I am now subscribeded. Keep up the good work and funny memes!
A comment for the algorithm love this series and your vibe❤
Fellow South African here... Love your content.
Love your comments 🇿🇦❤️
I like the old school horror style intro music you used.
The + symbol in the cockpit is a reference point.... the actual point is for top launchers is just above left and right of the + same with it fixed mount Gatling (the turreted version have the control that has the camera view ** in the center of fire **)
rr --> x
LE +
Gat -- > x
I would say about maybe 5 or 10 years back when I used to play space engineers now I just watch everybody else do stuff, there was a mod for auto collecting what you've mined and there was also a mod for color-coding the different ores. I'm not sure if that's still active and working properly. There are also used to be a mod for a 9 by 9 by 9 cargo container I don't know if that's still a thing. I think it would be an interesting option to add into there as well. They're going to just suggest III mods I had to use that's all if you able to find them again and if they're still working and available of course.
If you lack the fuel to reverse that long I understand but I recommend traveling above the vanilla max speed
Haha lekker loadshedding!😂 23:57
If you've problems with electricity consider buying an UPS. At least it gives you the time to save and shut down everything.
You still remember the Princess Bride nice.
So regarding the NPC getting any weapon, you can adjust that in the settings
Well shit, It has been a long while since I saw an actual gamer SA youtuber, and for a game I like nonetheless. Quite well done fellow South African.
Missiles are to big to be pulled through small port conveyer ports ... I believe that the downwards facing launchers had already fired before you took control..
The 4 mins of power is likely the shields once you power the reactor in the setting in the shield controller changed power setting from Kw --> Gw (Tw)
I don't go above tier2 grinder ...because of the the speed of the the tier 3... the chance of over- grinding possibility
Look into Eaton UPS battery power outlets, it's around 100$ and should at least let you save - love this series btw
Thanks! I've already got a 3kw inverter and some beefy batteries, and it's just sometimes not able to cycle fast enough when the power drops. An in-line UPS might be the solution!
Series is looking great so far :)
As for the grinder - it's probably a little jarring because you did jump straight to tier 3 :D
Personally, I think it's fine.
LoadShedding ... my "favorite" pastime.
Who doesn't love some time in the shed?
You motivated me to do the challenge for myself. Had a mishap after acquiring a ship and all the nice amenities. I wanted to move my survival kit and forgot to replace it. Died long after 😭 so let's hope my save wasn't that long ago!
Congrats on the 10k subscribers.
Thank you! It's been a wild ride 😂
brother it is currently being a wild ride@@LargelyUnemployed
I also have the T.R.A.D.E mod intsalled and those stations will never offer you contracts
I've been waiting for this all day and as soon as I take my eye off your channel you upload
never let them know your next move
you gotta sneak up on the algorithm
