First time I heard Neil I was hit hiking through New Mexico a guy picked me up we smoked a joint and he put Neil young into the cassette deck in his old van it blew my mind he let me off in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night it was surreal to say the least just one more experience on the hippie trail !

This is why Neil Young is one of the greatest of all time. Nobody puts as much passion and emotion into his performance as he does. When other musicians catch that "vibe" it becomes EPIC. This drummer is no different. I LOVE Neil Young!
The kids today don't know how lucky they are to be exposed to great music so easily thru IT , us 60 + had to find out thru word of mouth and music papers and books then had to save up pocket money and buy one record a week !!!!! Then maybe lend out records never to get them back !!! LONG LIVE ROCK
yes! and just as hard in new zealand, at least you had live venues there and actual bands! my 2nd yr in high school i started babystting for a couple who had 1st record collection i ever met.. it was 1972 and they even had zeppelin, i couldn't get there fast enough after school on thursdays, .. our tv had one b/w programme per week 1969-71 where overseas pop artists were 'covered' by a couple of bands, a few singers, and some dancing girls ... i laugh so much thinking about back then, comparing it with whats available to kids today
The coolest thing is that he's playing like this even today. I just watched a concert he gave with Crazy Horse last year at age 75! Memo to Neil: Keep shredding till you're a 100! What a legend!

I remember working as a stage manager for local promoter in my town back in the late 70s, during the Rust Never Sleeps Tour. It was in October during the World Series. After sound check, instead of rubbing elbows with the media, label big shots, A&R people and 'hangers on', Neil came into the crew room and asked if he could watch the game with us. Well, duh! Yeah. What an incredibly humble and down to earth human being- with so fucking much talent.i still have the play list he scribbled.
I will like 👍 to play for some top musicians as a drummer 🥁 to bring the old songs into life.????😅😮😢😂?????That is what we all looking 👀 for old classics just like 👍 this guitarist displaying talent beyond hell.????😢😮😅😂.????

hendrix`s version ran the whole range of his guitar style, from wah wah to soft lyrical to screeching high notes and dave mason played chick-a-chick acoustic guitar mitch mitchell on drums and jimi himself on adventurous busy bass...and jimi`s distinctive vocals...that 1968 recording of all along the watchtower by jimi hendrix was surely the greatest ever rock piece...would never be issued nowadays with its long bluesy instrumental passage and lack of shiny toothed plastic performers.. .neil young does it justice here and his chaotic style suits....and to think it`s a bob dylan song...heaven.
I agree. Being a lead guitar player in several bands since I was 15 (Now 55) Grew up on Jimi! But also was/are a big fan of Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush. Frank also did an incredible job with this tune,,,, and also on "Greensleeves" If you never heard them, Check it out! Of course, Thanks Neil, Without you, No one would ever have had this gem of a song to work with!
Jimi's version, which I first heard/saw while watching the Live at Berkeley film in the Melkweg, Amsterdam, back in 1980, was always going to be my funeral song..Then I heard Neil do a version at Farm Aid which was even better (for me at least). No video available but I'll put up the audio here on YT one day.
Rolling Stone actually ranks him pretty high. Not for technique, but when you have a whole chord designated "The Neil Young Chord", you know you are smoking the right kind of bliss.
Not seeing him live yet is my most foolish mistake. No one can play guitar like him - pure emotion, he knows that traditional technique is but one of many tools and so he is truly free to create with no inhibitions. Wherever the song's emotions go is where he takes the guitar, every time.

I believe that’s the late Donald Dunn on base and Booker T. Jones on organ, from Booker T & the MGs, legendary musicians in their own right.

hendrix`s version ran the whole range of his guitar style, from wah wah to soft lyrical to screeching high notes and dave mason played chick-a-chick acoustic guitar mitch mitchell on drums and jimi himself on adventurous busy bass...and jimi`s distinctive vocals...that 1968 recording of all along the watchtower by jimi hendrix was surely the greatest ever rock piece...would never be issued nowadays with its long bluesy instrumental passage and lack of shiny toothed plastic performers.. .neil young does it justice here and his chaotic style suits....and to think it`s a bob dylan song...heaven.

I agree. Being a lead guitar player in several bands since I was 15 (Now 55) Grew up on Jimi! But also was/are a big fan of Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush. Frank also did an incredible
job with this tune,,,, and also on "Greensleeves" If you never heard them, Check it out! Of course, Thanks Neil, Without you, No one would ever have had this gem of a song to work with!
When Dylan heard Hendrix play this he said it was as if he had written it for Hendrix he was so impressed.
Jimi's version, which I first heard/saw while watching the Live at Berkeley film in the Melkweg, Amsterdam, back in 1980, was always going to be my funeral song..Then I heard Neil do a version at Farm Aid which was even better (for me at least). No video available but I'll put up the audio here on YT one day.

Not seeing him live yet is my most foolish mistake. No one can play guitar like him - pure emotion, he knows that traditional technique is but one of many tools and so he is truly free to create with no inhibitions. Wherever the song's emotions go is where he takes the guitar, every time.
