      Police in the countryside of Haiti once gave me a hard time for traveling within the country without my (US) passport, even though we were in a very safe area. I had forgotten it at my house, explained that to him. He explained to me that it's important to carry it on me in case anything bad were to happen to me, they could inform the embassy

      you should never carry your passport when visiting countries with corrupted police, leave it hidden in the hotel

      I know, they didn't realise that the type, style and colour of the Keffiyeh(also known as Ghitra or Shemagh) worn differs between the sunni and shia in Iraq, it also differs between tribes on many occasions. They should have worn the all white head garment or the red and white chequered garment, these are they types of Keffiyeh worn in these northern Sunni regions. Lets just hope that they live and learn from these mistakes.

      Im sure part of its just language difficulties. Its probably difficult for them to express "Hey I am going to follow you around not because I am suspicious but because I want to make sure you stay safe because if you got kidnapped I would get my balls slapped by a wooden rod for failing" but they live a gruff life and language difficulties make him constantly feel like hes being interrogated because they suspect him of a crime.

    Curt im iraki but grew up in Europe, the thing is the isis had many german members wearing the garment like you guys do and that makes the police weary, if you kept the iqal on and did not wear the scarf as you did it would be ok, the way you fold the scarf is the way sunni extremists wear it

    I follow you from Iraq and I agree with you on the issue of the police and checkpoints, which are annoying for tourists. As for ISIS, there are small numbers of it in Iraq and it is only found in remote areas far from cities, and for 3 years it has not been able to carry out an operation in the city.     It's pretty cool to watch you explore Iraq. I've always wanted to go back there as a tourist. Seeing you at sites and on roads I used to clear for IED's brings back a lot of memories. I used to love taking side quests while on mission to go see the abundance of ancient sites. I still have a local painting of the tower in Samarra.

      US Foreign Policy destroyed Iraq and the pretenses were completely illegal to begin with. Now the US has moved its "strategic interest" to the South China Sea. If Taiwan sees Ukraine and the Middle East as an example then I wouldn't be very excited for the future.

      Kurt said he thought it was music, I don't know if he is just quite ignorant about the calls to prayer in Islam or if he was just taking the piss. I think it was ignorance, but honestly, he should have known better. He has travelled enough to know what a muslim call to prayer sounds like, so he should have known that.

    Thanks for showing what that beautiful country looks like presently! When I left Mosul in 2009 it was almost scorched earth smh. Maqloub mountain and the Christian villages at the base will always be in my memories. The women would send out there kids with the best chai tea I’ve ever had. In return I’d give them all the toys, ⚽️, and candies from our MREs we had lol. Broke up the savageness that’s for sure!!

    When you go into another country, you need to respect there culture and laws. Maybe learn them before you enter, in some of this I’m finding you a bit over the top…..respect is very important, also you would have known it would have not been an easy trip. Just my opinion.

    If you want to visit Iraq as a tourist, just go to Basra. It is the most beautiful province, the people there are peaceful, and it is a modern and clean city. Moreover, the weather there is beautiful and wonderful.
