  • Researchers are testing deep brain stimulation as a treatment for people with a severe form of depression. Doctors compare it to a pacemaker for the brain. It involves implanting electrodes in the brain, which are attached to a device placed under the skin in the chest. #health #mentalhealth #deepbrainstimulation #technology

I already have DBS for a movement disorder and have asked my neurologist team to let me know if/when they learn if it can be done for both as I also have life long treatment resistant depression. I hope that becomes a part of the study.

I have TRD and, I'm in the process of getting a DBS clinical trial procedure setup to have it done. (Hopefully, if they approve me) Nothing else to try as far as other treatment options. Watching a lot of these similar videos, it does seem like it makes a big difference, when nothing else had worked. If I get it done, I'll reply to my comment to let everyone know how it went.
Also, the doctor here explains why it's tough for me (And all others that deal with this) to get better. 1:50 When I went to therapy / counseling and the medication was working, it made a big difference in getting better, and having the therapy work. When I went to therapy (And the medication wasn't working) it made it extremely difficult to process, the things that we'd talk about.
It just feels like what you are being told, won't stay in your brain. (Anyone else relate to that?). Having your brain 'unstuck' makes complete sense to me and, it's been the first time I've heard a doctor really say/understand it! I hope I can get back to that point and, finally be able to get my life sorted out.

I already have electrodes implanted for my epilepsy, it would be amazing if they could help my MH too, both go hand and hand anyway.

This is why smart psychs treat depression with seizure meds instead of the so-called antidepressants.

@@kimyasolhjo1763 look up Lamictal (Lamotrigine). As an example. These drugs stabilize the brain activity to lessen seizures, but at lower doses can help with mood regulation. I take it because I have anxiety with depression. It also corresponded with fewer migraines but not sure if it was a direct cause. I have taken it for 10 years now. I had tried almost all the SSRIs before then. A family member takes a similar drug for ADHD - Oxcarbazapine. But YOU MUST work with a doctor to get the dosage right and never stop taking them abruptly. That can actually cause a seizure in people who don't naturally have that disorder.

I know so many people trying different techniques and technology for anxiety and depression, but few are "cured" and the side effects of the treatments are rough. Mindfulness helped me, along with other stuff. Books like 30 Days to Reduce Depression by Harper Daniels and the Tao Te Ching helped me accept the depression as is, instead of fighting it.

I don’t think you are understanding the difference between depression and treatment refractory major depressive disorder. One is a mental health issue that is easily treatable and the other is an illness that can be explained using neurology.

I think it's natural to have depression with a tough upbringing of loss and pain and trauma. You have to deal with it, not remove it; that's life.
