I would really love to see a comparison between this lens and the new tamron 20-40mm F2.8!| They are both soo leight weight, both are good wide angle zoom lenses. The Tamron has a wider aperture and gets tighter, but the Sony has more features and gets more wider. A direct comparison of these two lenses by one of my favorite camera reviewers would be amazing.
Hi, can you make video comparion for sony FE PZ 16-35mm F4 G vs sony E 16-55mm F2.8 G ? and which one is better for the Sony FX30 if you only want one? Thanks!
Hi, did you notice any focus jump/focus pulsating when you close up to the subject with autofocus on with this lens (PZ 16-35mm F4 G)? Mine seems to have the issue when I use gimbal to go in closer to the subject's face, it seems to have that zoom pump, but it is actually the focus going error for a very fast milliseconds (or looks like focusing the back of the subject in mine), and then slowly focus back to the subject, and it is quite frequent. Or sometimes it would just make that whole scene to have the shaking stutter effect for a millisecond, I had even set the focus shift sensitivity to the lowest, and it still does the same thing. For the body I'm currently using A7S3. Attached here is an example (not my video, but a clip I manage to found online which has the same issue as mine), look at the table at the bottom area and you'll understand what I meant: th-cam.com/video/DqZnYqg3zRA/w-d-xo.html Much appreciated for your replies, thank you.
Great review! I use this as my main lens right now. I'm mainly a video shooter and love it for its versatility with shooting. It's a lens I don't have to "think about" too much when I'm using it. I wish the aperture was faster, but the zoom rocker, autofocus, and compact size makes it perfect for run and gun video shooting. If I use it for photos, it's mainly for thumbnails or simple social media stuff. Overall, I'm very happy with it, but I know I need to get a second, faster lens for low-light conditions.
Love the review hopefully you read this but I’m just now going to purchase my first wide angle zoom lens and I’m stuck between this one and the tamron 17-28 I want to use this for when I’m traveling and I’m planning on having it for a while I’ve got to try the tamron before my fear is making the wrong choice any suggestions?
If you use a gimbal regularly, get this lens. If you don't, remain open to other options. If you're purely a photographer, the lens is solid, but you likely have better options. I own the lens and love it. This is just my opinion.
@sumpfi94 I don't own the 16-35mm G Master as it would feel repetitive having both. I mainly use the lens for video. I just don't have a need for the large aperture. Also, because I use a gimbal for my run-in gun, this lens doesn't shift weight when changing the focal length. Partner that with the clear image zoom and I can electronically go from 16-52.5mm. I use this lens for real estate photography at the F 8 aperture, which again doesn't require F 2.8 from the G Master. With all that said, those are MY needs. If I just described YOU while describing me, you'll love this lens.
Do you know if you can program camera body buttons to zoom in and out? I've seen that you can do it with the a7iv but I couldn't find that option in the a7iii. Nice video!!
i just bought this lens as your review convinced me. I am new to filmmaking and i am wondering how you guys handle the problem that you can not use an variable ND Filter together with the lens hood at the same time.
I’m currently using Sony aR7iii with lens of Sony 24-70 GM and Sony FE 35mm F1.8. I’m mainly doing videography and still new in this field. Should I get this Sony 16-35mm f4 pz lens or Sony 55mm F1.8 zeiss lens. Hope to get more advice/guidance. Thank you.
Could you vlog with it outdoors handheld, or on a selfie stick (no gimble), on a non-stabilised APS-C body like ZV-E10..? I’m thinking the 16-35mm f4 has potentially more flexibility than the 11mm f1.8 that can be handheld no problems. The 16-35mm will obviously have much tighter framing at 16mm for vlogging. Your thoughts? どうもありがとうございます..!
I still dont know if I want this or not. the range is really attractive but the f4 is discouraging and the f2.8 is very expensive. I am looking at the tamron but the zoom range is a little problematic but I like the tamron glass, also might be getting a cheeper and faster glass that matches with my other tamron 28-75. so, dont know.
I know. It's a tough decision. I can say F4 is not that bad as I used, so this lens does really great job in this wide category. But if you are struggling so hard to choose the one, 24-70 or 28-75 is always a good exit.
Thank you for your wonderful presentation & thoughts on the PZ. The Color section is very useful so keep that up! I heard the PZ has visible distortions @16mm. What is your observation on this and whether it is easily corrected? I'd been on the fence to get the PZ (to replace my old ZA as a travel lens) and your video finally pushed me off it!
Really like your videos! You have convinced me to buy this lens! It is so light weighted and stays on my camera all the time. Do you have any suggestions on the second lens to go with this 16-35mm F4 G? I am now very tempted to buy a 50mm 1.2 after watching your video but I am concerned with the focal length coverage. Thanks for the high quality videos! It has been so helpful.
I wanted to buy the 16-35 f4 pz that costs almost 1300 euros but then i saw sony also makes an 18-105 pz f4 g series that costs 500 euros. Am i missing something ? Why should I go for the 16-35 while there's the 18-105 with the same features for almost 1/3 of its price ?
The 18-105 one you mentioned is a cropped frame aka APS-C, and the one being reviewed is a full frame lens. They are not interchangeable (at least no one in their right mind would do that). Since the equivalent focal length of full frame = APS-C focal length x 1.5, the 18-105mm APS-C will be equal to 24-160mm (18x1.5-105x1.5) full frame. Basically, a full frame is always more expensive, and wider angles cost crazy bucks.
Thank you for an amazing video and the great information. I have a question, do you know if it performs well for vertical videos? Does it damage any interior features if you shoot vertical videos? Thank you in advance! 🙏
Thanks for watching!
Next, I will do "Sony 16-35mm F4 G vs Tamron 20-40mm F2.8"
I'm gonna make a great comparison review, so stay tuned!!!!
Cant wait
Looking forward to the comparison already, especially on Photos
I really like the idea of using the focus motors for zooming. I think that is the reason they can make it light
Love your reviews. Lots of real world examples.
Thank you!!!
Thank you so much for this detailed review -- exactly what I need to make my decision on my next Sony lens :)
That Land Cruiser is SICK!!!

Incredible explanation & review...I've already watched weekly...Your own previous video and the latest

Hey Kensei, cheers from Fukui, the PZ zoom is compatible with the dial ring in the RS3?

What are your thoughts on this vs the 16-35 GM? I own the GM but tempted to downgrade for the smaller size and weight…
I used to use that, but I think this would be the better choice!
