New Bronze Field Watch from Baltany. Its Bigger but Is it Better?

- Baltany Watches have been around for a while now and are arguably one of the best watch brands you can find on AliExpress...not that they are just an AliExpress Brand...they also sell Direct via baltany.co.uk/
I reached out to them for this piece as the last D12 or Dirty Dozen Style WW2 watch I received was in the more traditional 36mm size.
At 42mm Baltany are making a bold statement. It is much larger AND it has a Bronze Case!

Hey John as usual a great review for a great watch. I love the hand wind mechanism and it really takes me back to my Dad's watches he wore last century. The brass case and buckle look awesome and I actually don't mind some sterility on the case, crown and buckle as long as the dial is marked, horses for courses I guess. The leather strap is great quality and can teach some more expensive Ali Express brands how a good strap enhances the whole watch look on the wrist not to mention the wearer's comfort. It really is one I think I will add to my collection now 69+ watches. The only question mark is over the lume on the dial.

The case looks suspiciously close to a 43mm San Martin bronze flieger I have, different crown & dial but even the strap looks like the one that came with the SM flieger.
Hi John thought you might like to know, quite a while back I bought this watch from Baltany when it was available in steel, it's a great watch and I still have it in my collection, it's interesting that they stopped selling the 42mm steel cased version and are now selling it in bronze, anyways if I did not have my steel one I would defo want this in bronze, Lovin Baltany watches, great review!
Thanks for the info. Doesn't seem popular as I suspected but still well worth a look. Bronze does wear smaller don't you think? Normally 42mm looks like a dinner plate on me haha 😆
Looks alright on you John, I have a 7.5inch wrist I don't have any bronze watches yet I'm not too hung up with the sizes of watches just as long as its legible.
The second I heard the size I immediately thought this should be a flieger, give it an onion crown and that triangle at 12 and honestly it would a perfect pilots watch in bronze.
I’ve been really impressed with this one.
It’s a stunner but just a tad large, especially for the style. And unfortunately I don’t really do bronze watches because they only look good with leather, and I sweat a lot and leather straps get ruined in a matter of weeks for me. Great review of course. Thanks!

This a great size. My Hamilton Khaki aviation is 42mm and it's perfect
I dont find it oversized on your wrist.
I like the lume on the small seconds hand, its a detail lacking in other watches of the same style.
A long term review on this one could be interesting : how the bronze ages, and you deal with it.
I would love to keep it but have to move it on to fund other watches. It doesn't wear too big on me but it's just not my size and I already have 2 military field watches. Nature of the beast I am afraid :/

I get that a bronze watch is nice to have (just like a Titanium watch is) as part of a varied collection. I do own one bronze watch..
That said I agree that 42mm is definitely too large. These watches were traditionally 34-36mm but people and their wrists were generally smaller back then. Today 39-40mm would seem to be the sweet (most sellable) size. I'd personally say 36-39mm would be my choice to account for the style and pedigree. And I have a 8.5 inch wrist.

What a gorgeous watch! My only complaint is the movement. I wish they would have used miyota instead of seagull. Maybe it's because I've never had a seagull movement, but I'm concerned about the longevity of their movements (and the serviceability).
I only bought 1 watch in the 11.11 sale, but im going to buy another on Black Friday (whether Chinese, Laco, or another tissot). I really want a bronze watch, so this is on my radar now.

Great watch and review....Only one terminological inexactitude to complain about... Bronze better matching skin tone?....in Scotland?....The land where a sun tan is defined as a subtle shade of blue! all in fun!

Good review 👍. I looked at these in steel many times, but the size put me off. Maybe I was wrong, but at the moment, I can't take the Berny off my wrist so no purchases for a while 😁
The Berny was a big surprise. The chronobI looked at months back was ok but nothing special...but the Sinn wannabe is great for the money 💰
CU (8Sn), John, that's a stoater. One question: does the movement hack? Not a deal breaker - I have a couple of Vostok small seconds that don't hack and I can "ambush " real time by winding them at the right moment; they're very easy to regulate too!
Horrified to read about your watch being stolen - hope the bawbag gets caught. The fence should pit the heid in um for being an eejit.

I really like the case back. Looks like titanium beadblasted.
I have two steeldive. 500 meter and 1000 meter. Panerai style 500m with helium valve and my 1901 steeldive that's 1000 meter with helium valve. Largest sapphire on a watch. Gosh I want you to hold them. Outs my American aragon watches to shame.
My san Martin is bronze. Has the great wave lumed dial. Water ghost.
I love my bronze and I'd own them over any gold watch.

I have a SM bronze turtle and I've just let it patina and i love how it's darkened up, i must admit i have thought if i ever bought another bronze i may well keep that one patina free using the same method as you.
42mm?????? Why isn't there a 38 mm of this one? Maybe I'm more interesting dial material/texture/color choice. This does not compare at all with some of their nicer recent offerings.
Dont like the crowsfoot, which is inconsistent of me as I am happy buying homage watches and I am usually a big Baltany fan boy. Hard nope from me, I'm afraid.
