Silver Stacking - Buffalos VS. Eagles

- In this video I compare two very popular silver stacking bullion products side by side! It's the Generic Silver Buffalo Rounds VS. The American Silver Eagle Coins. This silver stacking 2020 battle looks at which is better to stack between the two products. The American Silver Eagle is a coin and is minted by the United States Government. It contains 1 troy ounce of 999 fine silver and is a favorite among silver stackers. The Silver Buffalo is a generic silver round and is minted by many different private mints. The Silver Buffalo Coin is not actually a coin because it has no face value and is not backed by a government, but is does have 1 troy ounce of 999 fine silver and is extremely popular for silver stacking. I used the Silver Buffalo in this video because it is the most popular silver round, but you could really substitute any silver round for the comparison. One big thing that I mention in the video is the 1099-B IRS Form and how it applies to silver stacking. Here is my video covering taxes and precious metals:

Man, the good ole days of $17 silver, $1 premiums for generic and $3 premium for ASE.
More like 12 an oz. That's when I started.
Im just starting and woe!
Hahaha I remember $2.85 premium on eagles 😂. If the premium was over $3.50 we thought it was too expensive 😆
22 for generics now $4 premium
@@josephmac1137 crazy
It's ironic people trust coins b/c they're backed by the govt, but I stack silver b/c I don't trust the govt! Thx for droppin' knowledge. Very helpful.
This was exactly my thought process 🤣
Exactly the whole point for me. The gov't will collapse along with everything else.
@@blackhole6828 Wishful thinking. Gov't tyrants will revert to guns to maintain their rule....as is the current practice.
Lol
That’s true but there will be a lot of normal folk around who’ll trust a silver coin made in a government (or old gov) mint over a silver round.
Perceived reliability and quality is important in trade
I like both generic rounds and bars. I don’t collect any eagles or any constitutional actually. I keep mine incase of hyperinflation, and I feel if we’re in that situation no ones going to care what the collector value is when bartering or trading, only the silver content. And it’s uniform so I can easily figure out what the value of everything is.
A ounce is a ounce and the higher priced eagles are great but the premiums are lost usually lost if selling in desperation.
Premiums are lost on daily sales at this point. The returns on the premium have dropped quite a bit in the past few months.
Good video SD! I like the fact that I can get 21 generic rounds for the price of 20 ASE’s!
Love them both but stack what u can when u can 1 oz at a time
Just bought some buffalo's love them
Wow, I didn't know about that 1099-B form! Thank you so much for informing us!🔥🔥🔥🔥
I like both the Silver Buffalos and the Silver Eagles and have bought both but prefer the Silver Eagles the most The reasons you mention in your concise and excellent report are the reasons why. Thanks. Out.
Generic is my choice. I'm allergic to premiums.
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Hahhahhahhahhahhahahhah
my wallet is
You'll notice the difference when you sell. Generic rounds tend to sell below spot. With silver eagles you will always get at least spot maybe a little over.
My advisor told me to buy precious metals: Brass, Copper & lead:..I bought a case of 5.56mm ammunition.
Wouldn’t it be nice if ASE still had a $2 premium.
Indeed, now it has a $10-13 premium
My LCS has a $3 premium on ASEs and I appreciate him!
I'm from Canada. I bought a small amount of colletor and 80% Silver coins a few Scotiabank Silver bars. Their value has increased by 14%. Since November I have been on a tear buying Buffalo silver rounds and a 10 oz bar, and I also been buying. 925% and 80% have circulating coins some graded. I also found some Silver Eagles and Maple Leafs. My favorite are Canada 50 cent pieces and Buffalo's!! They feel nice in your ha!
Just started Silver Stacking and my Local G&S Shop suggested I started with the Buffalos. So I got my first Silver 1oz Buffalo. After I get my 20 Buffalos I will stack American Eagles next. I will rotate between the two. Also to add a funny thing, Two years ago I got a 1oz Silver Round for Christmas of Baby Yoda (Grogu) from the Mandalorian.
All in All thanks for all your tips and tricks for silver stacking.
Another great video. I stack both, along with bars and other things. BTW, I know when you were talking about Buffalos in this vid, you were really just referring to all generic silver rounds, but the U.S. Government did mint a Buffalo silver dollar. It was issued in 2001 and is 90% silver. I have one, graded and slabbed. They are a very attractive coin.
Good vid. I’m forever seeing videos on TH-cam of people saying that Silver is silver is Silver buy which ever one is cheapest. I guess the fight continues.
To much emotion that are attached with these coins man lol
@@kenishaward7309 They do latch on to them, heavily
I ordered the 1 ounce buffallo coin roll , such a bad quality , compare to the American silver eagles , but I would rather ordered the 2021 Brittania silver one ounce coins , superb quality , sexy looking coins , many security feautures , more bang for tbe money .
Like them both, after my maple monster box im gonna go for a buffalo one 👍
Thanks for another great video!
Some LCS's in my area (Denver) keep track of what you sell to them and once you hit 10k per year you get the 1099 tax form.
The $10,000 doesn't matter what item is sold to them. It's anything. I don't do business with those shops.
My dude! Love your enthusiasm in these videos. Just followed you on IG. I've been purchasing SilverTowne & HM Buffalo Rounds. I love and own a few Buffalo Nickels. Unfortunately the silver Buffalos are not legal tender like you said. Keep investing!!
Great video as always! A point that makes the ASE a winner for some is that you can buy US mint produced bullion with a self-directed IRA
Another fun and informative video thank you 🏁
90% has the benefits of both: rock bottom prices, backed by the us government, and something that these aren't- they're actually recognized by everyone as MONEY.
May the Schwarz be with you yes a quarter is recognized as a quarter and majority of the population will recognize it as being worth 25 cents . Junk silver also takes up way too much space and takes longer to transport but to each his own.
@@idobackflipzidk both ride the same speed in my truck
Good video my guy.👍...more about the taxes involved with stacking, is what I'd like to know more about
wood beez check out my vid on it link in description 🔥🐉
I'm not sure if this is what normally happens, but silver rounds seem to be cheaper as the silver prices drop. ASE coins seem to stay at higher prices as the prices drop. So stacking rounds seem to be better to buy as the prices drop and coins seem to be good to buy when the silver price goes up, because then the rounds come back up in price back to where the coins are.
Are Silver Rounds shielded from Government confiscation since they are privately minted?
Either one is just fine for me, I love them all.
Thanks for sharing, didn't know about the 1099b but now I do ,not that I plan to sell my stack will be left to my grand children but I will school them in case they have plans to sell in the far future
Do you have an updated video on this topic for 2022? Because the American Silver Eagle prices are bonkers. The premiums are absolutely insane for them. The premiums are really high for everything but especially more so for the eagles.
Thanks for another great video.✅ Silver eagles are my favorites. 👍Thanks for sharing.😎👌👌👍👍⛏⛏
Ive been melting them all recently. They are just silver to me. Gotta make that Crystal Mac 😬
cecil236 I paid $17 each. And melted them down and sold them for $30 each. That’s a 57% profit. Not a 30% loss. 👍🏻 Not to insane in my opinion
If you could buy buffalos cheaper you could also hypothetically buy more silver for the same amount of money. Maybe you could buy 12 buffalos to 10 eagles or whatever the conversion would be.
Thanks Dragons. Good to see you
Now it's october 2021 and times have sure changed. I've been buying silver eagles all year and the cheapest I've found were about $11 over spot for random year, and usually they're $11 over spot for 2021. Even higher for a few years old. The first one I bought were I paid shipping was $41. The cheapest has been about $31
Now I feel less beaten up for paying 35$ a piece for 4.
ASEs for me. But if the US Mint ever made bullion Silver Buffalos, ooh boy! I would buy both!
Hello, new silver investor here... Where are some of the best places to buy online for cheaper? I see them for $35-38 everywhere but silver is $27 an oz. I want to buys close to spot as I can ie. $29 or $30
I know it’s 3 years late bro, but try Money Metals Exchange, Gold Club Direct, BOLD Precious Metals, or JM Bullion are my dealers of choice
If I had your furnace I would melt them all and make a huge millennium falcon! 😝 I lean toward generic but have both. If both are found for the same price, then I’ll buy the ASEs but generally I refuse to pay the extra premiums for them. In my area, I can’t recoup the premiums except through the occasional private sale.
My question is, if the economy crashes, and we have precious metals for wealth after fiat currency crashes as well, silver will always be silver, so if all that crashes doesn’t matter which one you have they will both have that wealth factor right ???
Buffalo or Eagle? It's a trick question. The answer is both, both are the best for stacking.
That's right stack Beagles 🐕
🤪
I’m not a fan of the buffaloes, but I do have lots of 1oz generic. I also have ASE. I buy generics so that I can sell, or flip into gold if the silver to gold ratio tightens. My ASE are deep stack material. I don’t plan on selling them until retirement age.
Ask your LCS if they pay any premium over spot for ASE . Then ask does the premium change if each stack of 20 is mixed years or all they same year or if some are culled/minor damage? This is information is for your plan later in life to sell (or sooner if needed) . Do not use your emergency fund for stacking. Having a solid E fund will ensure that you will not be force to sell before you want to or reduce the likelihood of that.
I have 2 ASE's, both MS70 certified...and thats the only ASE's I have. I'm not really a fan of them. I do have a variety of silver...maples, generics, 70's art bars, 10 oz bars, Perth, SBSS, etc etc, my favorite silver is dimes, quarters, and half dollar 90% constitution coinage from when our country was strong and had morals.
Amen on the Junk!
I love the maples also more , and theyre cheaper in my country than eagles
@@papaxxbear I live in the U.S. and I agree. The Maples are just a little bit cheaper, and have the security features. I prefer them over ASE also.
Bob Silver I need more junk lol 🔥🐉
I don't have either, ... I've got a few tubes of the Morgan rounds, and two tubes of the Aztec. And then, several tubes of the 1.25 rounds.
Fairly new sub here, thanks for the info. Keep up the good work!
Are they the same size? I want to turn the buffalo into a coin pendant and I want to buy a silver eagle coin 😊pendant
Being in Oregon you might not have run into this particular advantage of Silver Eagles over Buff's...when you buy eagles you're buying "money"...and there are no taxes on buying "money" HOWEVER if you buy Buff's which are NOT "money"...you (at least in Washington where I live) have to pay (in my case 10.9%) TAX on the purchase. Personally I don't like the large premium placed on Silver Eagles so most of my purchases at my LCS are of constitutional silver; dimes quarters and halves. Premiums are arbitrary and nowhere is it given that you'll get that premium back...so in my opinion it's just "smoke money"...above spot...I don't mind paying a bit over spot, even for junk silver, that's sort of part of the deal and dealers live off that margin; buy a little under spot, sell a bit over spot. I (and you as well I imagine) want to do the same, pay less and sell for more. When I have "let go" of any of my silver it's more often been in a barter situation than at a coin shop...I try to NEVER sell to a coin shop...nothing against them but they are in business to make money off my trade, I know they'll pay me less and charge me more...and that's sort of a "never win" scenario in my book. Concerning the 1099-B...just never sell more than 950 silver rounds to a coin shop. ALWAYS look for that private deal. Everyone has their own particular way of stacking and collecting, there are as many ways to do it as there are people trying to get it done! I like eagles...but don't want to pay "extra for the privilege"
Hap Newsom yeah no taxes on anything here 😏🔥🐉
Who mints the Buffalo's with United States on the back?
Commenting from 2023!
In 2020. $17 /oz and $3 premium on eagles!
I paid $5 over spot for generic Buffalos in 2022!
Great
What about Britania’s or Maples…is it required to fill out a 1099 B when selling more than a thousand of them?
i have a goverment issued silver buffalo. they did make them
You got me wondering how the capital gains tax might apply to coin ring makers...
Dang it Dragons! You made me think!
I'll be hitting the books now. Thank you. Sincerely.
Rocky Mountain Bear lol good luck 🔥🐉
Silver eagles are going down in Germany juppy time to buy, btw great work , great videos!
Great video no 1099-b 🤔🤔🤔☑️
LCS is getting $7 premium on ASE as of 5-28-21. 😥. In Texas just for reference
I like them both, here lately I'm on the s scotsdale tombstone nuggets
They're my favorite mint.
gene Pohlemann nice those are cool! 🔥🐉
@@SilverDragons47 what's your take on silver crashing
gene Pohlemann gonna go down more and then go up over the next few months
Right on bro with Scottsdale! Most local shops treat them as a premium so probably best to go through their website .. every once in a while you can get them at generic price
ASE's being government money carries a much greater penalty for counterfeiting. Making it less counterfeited.
Making it easier for the Government to confiscate
I have some silver buffalos from various mints.. is it normal that some have the traditional high pitch silver ring (ping test) but others sound dull? All ordered straight from GSM or other mints.
I am curious about this. I got GSM. They seem genuine but can’t confirm 100%.
I just picked up 40 buffalo's for $0.39 over spot. ASE's were +$2.19.
Last time I sold, eagles went for melt, generic was $92%
Yeah see that is basically what goes on around here except it's more like 85-90% of spot for all silver you might get melt for eagles but I wouldnt count on it him saying he sells his generic silver for 100% of spot and gets 1 dollar over for eagles is just unreal to me I'm gunna move out to wherever it is he lives because I'm wanting to leave my area anyway and where he is sounds great to me
@@stackingpoints417 I've been buying and selling since 1980. Never got paid over spot in Michigan.
The Buffalo round made by the Sunshine mint is the best to stack.
Okay, why?
Because of the security feature that Sunshine uses in their rounds and bars.
Sara Winters what security feature is that?? Sounds interesting
@@swjackson917 what security feature?
They use a mint mark and a hologram. You have to buy a decider lease and you can see the security mark
Can you explain how a precious metal coin is backed by the US Govt? What do they back the precious metal coin with? Fiduciary issue?
Silly question but when stacking Buffalo rounds with the intention to fill a tube is it best to complete the tube with rounds from one mint? Or can the tube be buffaloes from various mints?
Is there a difference in quality between 2021 American silver eagle (type 1) vs the American silver eagles of past years? I notice on reputable coin websites that older years tend to have an increase in price compared to newer year coins.
I just got my first buffalo. I will be getting more every pay.
I hope you bought a lot !!! You’d be up HUGE right now
@@joaquinbarocio5320 I'm working on a tube.:)
I’m jealous!!!!! I just bought my first 12 silver rounds AND I CANT WAIT !!!!
How do you feel about the Krugerrand and Philharmonic coins?
Wow, never heard of the 1099-B, great information and very important for when i am ready to trade up. Do you know if there are any taxes to be paid if you buy bars and sell them?
Great video.. Question
I am seeing the price of Silver as today is $22.76 (10-10-2021) , according with your video in a LCS you can buy ASE for something around $25.76 oz , I am trying to stack silver and seeing everywhere online, around $35 oz for many years of SAE, do the year matters in the price ?, if all the LCS have something around the price you stated is much better to buy silver with them. I never been in a coin shop.
Hey Stackers and Collectors!
I hope you can help me out....
I bought a few american silver eagles a couple days ago. I saw that not one single of them got a hallmark.
Why are there Eagles with hallmark S,P,W and Eagles without any hallmark?
thank you
Greetings from Germany
why not both, picked up a couple tubes of Buffalo today, nice coin
So do you only have to fill out the 1099-B if it 1000 rounds or more? Or is it period? Also since the gold Buffalo is backed by the USA no 1099-B form required???
Purchased ngc pr silver eagle how to recuperate my money silver at $ 24 0z and pr coin cost $ 100..? Thank you
I love Buffalo rounds and other types of Generic rounds.
Thanks for the video. However you did not give it enough thought. Let’s add a few more variables. What if spot is $50 vs $5? How about in 40 years? Collect ability?
Collector value only has value to the collector. But I can agree with you on the "you did not give it enough thought." part.
Veteran Stacker good point! 🔥🐉
Ase easily trumps the round if your patient and find them at a decent price, gov bullion has such a keen edge against rounds
Haha, I thought you were going to say buffalos were the way to go now that I’m almost 3/4 of the way through a monster box
Exactly
Great information I didn’t know that
So is that any coin that is IRA-Approved Silver and don't need a 1099 form.. Would I have to pay tax on Maples or any of the other ones
im in the middle east, and im ordering 8oz of the buffalo ones, what do u think about that> i dont want to sell them ever. stacking for inflation and crises.... hope i could get a reply bro
How’s the stack looking nowadays man?
@@HickMan980 thanks for asking man. Sold everything like a year or 2 later😂😂😂 in a much better price tho but currently not into silver much
Would it be be wise to exchange my silver eagles with insane premium to get more buffalos
Those hands tho. Wow!! Still all over the place. Stack on👊
Nate S lol
Hey I'm from the future; 2023 to be exact. Silver eagles are $38, and spot is $25.
Whats stacking mean, buying the same kind of coin or different ones???
What's a good online site to get started with buying silver? Maybe a site that has fair prices and I won't get burned!
Dragon, I think silver will be lower as the market drops. I am waiting to buy at $14 an ounce. So hold tight its going to be a wild ride in the next month or so as this coronavirus spreads and stops the markets to large drops! Stay covered and buy puts at this point.
richard c time to buy 🔥🐉
Hello , your thoughts on Lincoln penny 1 oz silver round for sale at APMEX ?
Good idea to stack a lot of them ?
Trusted ?
How about Canadian Maple leaves? Do you have to fill out that form?
With current ASE premiums you may want to look at Philarmonics for lower premiums and government backing
I am seeing silver eagles selling for almost 100%over spot price. Is this normal or am I looking on all of the wrong places?
How do you spot a fake? I just bought a few ASE, Maples, and Buffalo rounds, and they all make different sounds when I tap them. The ASE sounds best, Buffalo next and maple sounds bad.
Buffalo (and any other round) over the ASE. If SHTF then premiums wont mean crap!! Just stack the silver folks.
Does anything stop me from selling 999at one shop and 999 at another shop without filling out a 1099b?
Gray comparison I’d take them both haha. But ASE all the way if they were priced same.
Ase has premium! 🐉
Learned something new because I had not heard of the 1099-B Form. Do you know if the form has to be completed for coins of the sovereign governments, such as Silver Maples?
I been stacking buffalo 🐃 rounds
How come some of the silver buffalos don’t have a year on it?
HI Neighbor!
Make your own 'Ben Franklin' list. (pros and cons)
ASE's = "Constitutional" silver = coin + round = better re-sell value
"Black Diamond" Bison = 1 oz generic .999 silver = Spot or below re-sell value = Not as recognizable as ASE
ASE's win! Stacking is long term just like the 'old' banking savings account. Take some out if you need to. Put some in when you can. - Joey From Seattle
I am still learning about these. What is spot?
Which is the better round choice ? Generic Silver buffaloes or generic round silver eagles?
omg. Comparing this video to NOW---April 2022!!! Spot is..hmmm...maybe $24.87 today? It went over $25 a couple of weeks ago. That 2020 Silver Eagle you're holding is now considered "Pandemic Year" Silver when mints were partially closed....ACCKKKK!
Can someone tell me what is the point that the coin is backed by the government for 1 dollar if the coin is worth 23 dollar please?
