- Welcome to the kick-off stream for my new, modded Vintage Story 1.19 series: Desert Life! I'm hoping this series is a chance for us to kick back, relax, explore some mods, and build something amazing in the serene austerity of the desert. This isn't intended to be a "challenge" or "extreme survival" series, and we won't be limited to just exploring the desert.
Want to play along? You'll need the world files and all of these mods (likely) in order for it to work. Download links below.

Been with you for many years. You deserve so many more subscribers. Your content is better than most TH-camrs. It confuses me why more people arnt following along
Hey thank you so much for the sentiment, and for being last of the channel for so long! I think the reality of subscriber counts is mostly based on luck: once a channel gets randomly shown to the exact right person or handful of people, it takes off. What qualities someone as "exactly right" is a mystery, though! Nevertheless, I'm happy to go the slow and steady route for now!!
Of course it rains in the desert when you arrive. Kurazarrh, the untamed deity of precipitation
I seriously have the rain blessing... Or curse!
@@Kurazarrh only you could enter a desert and immediately see rain and hail. Tyron probably hid something in the code that reacts to your name to mess with you by now. Wherever you go the chance of rain increases tenfold
Missed the stream and no time at the moment to watch it either just popping in to congratulate you on 10k and for introducing vintage story to a wider public. Gets far from enough love. Everyone is so hyped about the building in enshrouded not knowing vintage stories is more detailed and did it way way way earlier.
Thanks so much for all the effort!
Hey thank you so much! I hope you get a chance to check it out. Thanks for dropping a comment!
Vintage Story is such a fun game and has a ton of potential to have even more game mechanics. A mod for hygiene and a mod for clean drinking water would be really nice way to add even more realism. Maybe the ability to make a bathtub and heat up water for a bath. Make soap with animal fat and lye and good smelling flowers. Boil water and store it in glass bottles or ceramic containers.
Haha sounds like you've had some experience with the Bad Hygiene mod for Rimworld! ;)
@@Kurazarrh there was a similar game that was popular a few years back that did water at least... but it h ad magic and dinosaurs, so it was very different feeling.
Totally fine with the long form content. Enjoy your content thanks.
Hey, thanks for the feedback! Glad you liked it!
Sorry I missed the stream, just back from a weekend away! Really interested in your build plans, cant wait to see them develop. Congrats again on your 10K!!
Hey, thank you!! It's looking like there should be plenty of chances in the future to catch streams, so maybe I'll see you in chat in the future! :)
didn't manage to catch the stream live, but i'm enjoyin the vod quite nicely, makes me wanna do my own climate-specific run sometime. congrats on the 10k!!!! :]
Hey thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying the VOD!
Very nice stream!
Thank you!! :)
Coming back to finish the video after work 😆🙌 so glad I got to be apart of your first steam, I love your vintage story content and you made me fall in love with vintage story so thank you 😊keep being awesome
And you keep being awesome, too! Thanks for being there, and I'm happy to hear from another person who fell for Vintage Story because of my videos! :)
Sad I missed this! But I will definitely be watching it all.
It's looking like there will be more chances to catch me live! Hope you enjoy the VOD!
Oooo, desert build! This will be fun! Looks like a great seed, it’s worth the trouble spawning multiple worlds to get a good one.
I hope so, too! So far it looks pretty awesome.
I'd have liked to stay for the whole event, but some commitments required me. It was great to see live the start of this new season and congratulations again on the 10K!
Hey thank you so much! It was great to see you in the stream, and I'm so glad you could make it!
Everytime the avatar "said" something, ich was reminded of the song "pure pleasure seeker" by moloko. :)
Great concept! More please! :)
:D Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
Grats on 10k, old boy.
:D Thank you!!
Great stream just a bit early in NZ to catch live
Hey, thank you! Glad you could catch it, even if after the fact!
Yay, VS content again! Too bad I missed the stream... If you want an additional way to make books, a mod called Scraps lets you reuse old rotten books found in ruins to create more linen pulp
Maybe you can catch the next or a future stream, since they're going to be a regular part of the channel for this series!
As for turning literary archaeological finds into pulp... blasphemy!!! XD
Congrats on the 10k
Thank you!!
Love all your content and started watching you because of Vintage but your other series are great too especially Sunless Seas keep on going you deserve the 10k and more congrats.
Hey thank you so much! Glad you liked the stream!
Dang I missed your first live stream. Well I look forward to catching next one.
I look forward to seeing you at one!
We had a great time. Thanks for the stream.
Thanks! Glad you and your kid had a good time!
Wowie, grats on the 10k!!!
Thank you!! :)
Finding bees RIGHT next to spawn thats some BeeS to me XD
In the south, bees are really common! ;)
@Kurazarrh I tend to play with a 2m North to South 6 to 8m East to West and 800k pole to equator map, so I get the biggest map with out the repeating bands and it spreads things out a bit more and I usually never find some around me due to latitude but its worth it when you find just 1, plus with the new 1.20 story location distance setting added I can make them fit to a more journey tied playthrough. I've been thinking about doing a playthrough calling it The Journey Through the Rust as a big story play I'm still quite the noob compared to the 17 years of "The block game that shall not be named"
Since filling bookshelves for a temple of knowledge is time intensive you could chisel your own bookshelves kinda like the resonance archive.
Indeed! Though I still need to find the bookshelf blocks from furniture traders.... Or perhaps chisel some from scratch!
I still need to finish the guide season 2 but seeing it starting feels always great
There's definitely a vibe to the early game that fades over time. That bit of struggle, the uncertainty... it makes the early game fun!
There's a use for chromite now in 1.20, chrome tanned leather. It is used in making a new backpack and a new mining bag. I hope you get to see them.
I've seen that! I'm excited for the bigger backpacks!
I missed the stream but I enjoy watching you play this game. I especially enjoy your building exploits. I'm constantly learning when I watch you play. You mentioned Rhadamant while playing, and I too have been watching him since his Kenshi Birth of a Hive series. As you were saying, but with more detail He does 3 roughly 5 hours streams a week on twitch and 1 12ish hour stream once a month. Then edits them to the 40ish minute episodes and posts them to TH-cam like you said. All of it "Communality voted".
That said, sorry to push another youtuber in your chat. You wanted feedback on you maybe streaming more or not. A great benefit to streams is interacting with your fans in real time, although some people might not get to catch those streams live. I've seen streaming can distract from family interactions if you do them too often(warning). I think the idea of doing regular vids for general exploration and gathering of resources, and maybe raiding or just locating ruins. With streams for building and raiding of catalogued ruins could work. Or just stream general play, I think many fans of VS can just watch the game being played. Seeing someone else's playstyle can always influence their own, giving them ideas and shortcuts. Example: I'd never run up to the nearest body of water on day one and start my crops there. I always wait until I've got a good base location picked out.
(sorry for the dissertation, I'm done for now. 😇)
Haha, thanks for the feedback, and no worries about talking about Rhadamant. I do enjoy his content! Anyway, as far as planting crops where we did--I had already scouted out this location before the stream started because I was looking for a specific kind of location to build my base!
I feel like cloth and fiber in this game needs the pottery treatment.
Do you mean ease of access, or like... dyeing? Cuz I would love to be able to make colored carpets, curtains, and so on... :)
@@Kurazarrh I mean like the hands on crafting with looms etc. depending on your tech level. Something like the old terra firma craft for that other block game
I'd absolutely be down for some more streams (especially if they're at a european timezone friendly time). Or if you want to vut them up into multiple videos, that'd be cool too. I also watch Rhadamant's VS series quite a lot.
Ah, nice, I really enjoy his videos and style. Thanks for the feedback! Was the first stream friendly for your time zone? I believe it should have been in the afternoon \ evening for most of Europe.
@@Kurazarrh Yeah it was! I unfortunately still missed the beginning, but that's just because I wasn't home early enough.
Yay! K is back to VS!
I wonder how long before Tyron puts in heat stroke?
Noice Rakoona hat!
The break was nice (and needed!) but it's great to be back!!
I have seen some gameplay of vintage stories & it's the very first time I've seen both a savanna & desert biome which seems pretty rare to me.
I think a lot of folks avoid savanna and deserts partly because of the hyenas and partly because of the drab color of the grass. Though Ashantin often settles in or near a desert when she plays!
Love your vids! I always wonder if you have that temptation to start a base in a decent ruin? I have this powerful draw to want to fix broken ruins and add to them!
Thank you!
Sometimes I get the itch to build in or restore ruins, but in the long run, I find that I want to build something larger or outside the scope of ruins, so I really haven't used ruins except as a very early-game temporary base.
Funny rare occurrence, it was hailing outside when I got to the part where it started hailing in game
I hope your roof and any cars you might own are okay!!
@@Kurazarrh Perfectly fine thank you! Also, thanks for teaching me how to play this game, haha
Audio starts at 0:08:34
Keep up the long stream videos.
Not to worry! It looks like both the long VOD and the shorter episodes are both pretty popular, with different groups of people, so I'll probably just do both. The VOD gets saved and published automatically after the stream, so keeping it is the easiest thing to do! :)
Dang, bell didn't notify me. Shhoot.
Hope everyone had a blast!
That's unfortunate! I'm sorry it didn't work. Though I have seen comments in other creators' videos complaining about the exact same thing recently, so maybe there's a bug.
Its alright, only used bell button a few times. Should have used my alarm.
What do you think about Radamond.. probably butchered his name spelling, how he is doing on his vintage story?
He is my go to for rim world, and project zombiod. Besides few others.
@@gigglingsociopathh2911 I really enjoy Rhadamant's style. I'm not even caught up on his VS content, but it looks like he's made it into the Steel Age!
"The Great Library of Kurazandria" lol
Personally, I prefer the edited versions of your TH-cam videos. Its harder for me to watch longer videos/streams
Hehe, that's quite a mouthful of a name! Thanks for the feedback! I'll be posting chopped-up versions (though not edited aside from adding an intro and outro) and seeing if people like or prefer that format, and then take it from there.
@@Kurazarrh I was kinda trying a word play on the library of Alexandria... lol
I'm sure once they add horses to the game we'll have other ways to make glue
XD
10/10
Thank you!!
Hi, another good season! Be careful with glueing aged/ruined bookshelves, it's currently bugged. Bug report # 3750
Hey thank you! I'm unlikely to do much gluing of ruined objects except bookshelves, but hopefully that'll get fixed before I get to that point!
I just looked up soybean, the wiki says soybean can be used as a opt in veg stew along with peanuts. Maybe you didn't use the correct amount? Or it was a bug. The wiki also says olives can be used as a veg. Let me know if you find out,, I don't have any by me.
Olives can be used as a vegetable, yep! I'm not sure about the soybean/peanuts thing, though. Soybeans are treated as a protein in-game (and so are peanuts). Might have to experiment with them sometime!
For the life of me I can’t figure this out. When you’re making a reed chest and you have a stack of reeds in your hand….how do you drag the reeds across the crafting menu and the amount in each box seems to automatically split and adjust based off how many boxes you’re filling.
Just left-click and drag. If you do a right-click and drag, it'll only drop one item in each slot (it works just like that other block game).
Hey, new to the game... what's the info box in your top left? Is that a mod, and if so, what is it called?
Welcome to Vintage Story, first of all! The box in the top left is the Simple HUD Clock mod by Rhonen. The full mod list (including download) is in the video description. :)
@@Kurazarrh cool, thanks! I've been enjoying your videos the last couple weeks!
How do you have that interface left in the top
That's the Simple HUD Clock mod by Rhonen. :)
