    I binged snk in 3 days, so I didn't get the opportunity to understand Erwin's character in depth. Even so, I've never cried so much for someone as much as I did for Erwin when he died. So many people still misunderstand him, it's actually so heartbreaking since he seems like the most realistic character in this show to me. He is hands down the best leader, commander and character that I've come to highly respect and love. In Levi's words - "What a Man!" This video was so well done, thank you for this!!

    • @sahilrwt29
      @sahilrwt29 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, there is another side to it as well. His action can be interpreted selfish. Infact, so selfish that to fulfill it he would even throw away his life. In other words, his desire to know the truth, to have it affirmed was even even greater than than him being there to experience it personally.
      This argument can be expanded to all actions that involve some degree of personal feeling attached to it. Whether that action is ultimately good or bad can be put to discussion afterwards.

      to be so close to your life's dream, to fulfilling all you had suffered for
      and just let it go, right there and then, because... you knew that's just how things had played out, and you weren't going to get what you wanted, and then it's just a matter of leaving behind something for everyone else, so maybe the generation below you might have their chance at fulfilling their own dreams
      and then going into that death with so much honesty and courage, absolutely not hiding from it in any way
      it's just too fucking much for me bro

    The long-range scouting formation served 2 purposes, to see where the titans were coming from and to see who was the titan imposter within the formation. If you look at later down the line, Reina, Mikasa, Armin each had different information on Eren's location. So each squad within the group had different information on where Eren was. So if all of a sudden you tell the squad 1 Eren is to the left, squad 2 Eren is to the right, squad 3 Eren is in the front, and the left one gets attacked, you can deduce who is the imposter within the squad like among us.

    My favorite thing about Erwins character is the freedom he gives to the Scouts. At the end of season 1, he approved Erens fight with Annie within wall Sina, which is a huge gamble politically. In case they would have failed and Annie escaped, Erwin would have been sentenced to death for sure and even Scouts may be disbanded by command of the King for approving such a fight within Wall Sina. But he (and Levi) managed the political influences during the fight by himself and trusted his comrades to fight the titan, and succeeded. That was where I have become his fan.

    I can understand why most people prefer the chapter "Hero" over "charge", because of Levi murdering the beast titan and also Levi is the most loved character in the series. In my opinion, Erwin is the best character I could ever imagine of and seeing him lead them facing death in that chapter just makes me want to be him, because I can´t think of a better decision making that could made me proud of myself, that Erwin did in that battle is the most heroic thing you can do. Also I want to mention that, when all other soldiers thought that was hell, he didn´t hesitate, gave a inspirational and concise speech, and charge into that

Does that mean life is meaningless? Was there even any meaning in our being born? Would you say that to our fallen comrades? Their lifes… Were they meaningless? No they weren‘t! It‘s us who gives meaning to our comrade‘s lives! The brave fallen! The anguished fallen! The ones who will remember them… are us, the living! • @KenseiAo
    @KenseiAo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I like that he mentions Erwin's selflessness, but I also like what others mention about Erwin... His selfishness. The guilt he felt for his father's murder and the desire to prove his dad's theory is the most important thing that makes him an incredible leader. It allowed him to take risks and sending people to their deaths. Erwin makes himself believe that he is doing this for the sake of humanity, and although this is true, the undenying fact is that Erwin did all of this to justify the stubbornness that caused his dad to get murdered.

    • @AboveWill

    • @hershey4071

      True that. I'd like to believe that's the big reason of Erwin's complexity. We see him as this leader who will sacrifice and gamble everything for the sake of humanity, but truth is his motivation is the dream he shares with father. He was a slave (reference to Kenny) to his dream not humanity's survival.

    Erwin is easily my favorite character in this series and, honestly, I don't think I can pick better examples than the ones cited here. You've got his analytical mind on display, you showed his emotional awareness of a situation and how important it is to pump followers up, you got his humility alongside that analytical mind once again, and lastly Erwin's sheer focus of mind and will demonstrating his acceptance that he's but a cog against humanity's survival.
    Top choice picks.

    • @thelegacyofgaming2928
      @thelegacyofgaming2928 3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Tbh, I think his not putting himself in too much danger was because he believed humanity would be doomed without him, as all the other potential commanders (as shown in the flashback) were too afraid or didn't really seem competent or confident about the situation. But once he realized Eren could save humanity is when he started taking more risk.

    • @AngelDeed
      @AngelDeed 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Everyone is selfish in AoT and in real life. It's normal. He didn't seem to put himself in danger because he is not the main character and didn't have as much screen time. But he was a soldier for decades before becoming a commander. Regular soldiers can't just opt out of battle and save themselves, so it's safe to say he was probably in the middle of for a long time.

    • @zacharyshoemaker835
      @zacharyshoemaker835 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      He doesn't put himself in danger because he's the brains, the head of the scouts. If he gets taken out then the formation fails and his army scatters. Keeping himself alive is necessary for cohesion which increases the survivability rate for everybody and the success chance for whatever mission they are trying to accomplish.

    • @mohammadzulfikar8988
      @mohammadzulfikar8988 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      In every battle, the commander would put himself behind the army to of course avoid him getting chopped earlier. The individual of a commander is a special and rare being, 1 of millions, who can lead, motivate, control, and be a strategist of his army, thousands or millions individuals.
      Do you think that's an easy job?
      If the commander die first, then the entity of his army would lose its head and leadership, and literally lose the battle.
      In the last suicide charge, erwin had no other option than to lead the suicide squad himself, because if he didnt do it, the scout army wouldnt be motivated enough to give their lives.

    A big thing too is that in his last mission, Erwin did *NOT* want to die. He wanted desperately to ditch the final charge, complete his dream and find the closure that drove him to that point but he knew that it was going to be his sacrifice that will lead to the majority's survival. So Levi, in a sense, gave Erwin permission to carry on with his final mission (the infamous "Give up on your dream and die").
    His expression in his final charge isn't a face of what we would think bravery is, but a face of terror with the realization that you will die.

    Amazing video. The emotional depth that AoT is what makes it way more investing than any other series out there. Like Erwin immediately being snatched away after a titan after an inspiring speech... It would usually be juxtaposing and may even result in a chuckle from the viewers. But even after being snatched, he continues to urge them. That is a story beat and a half right there. That's how you elevate a character.
