It's nice to see and hear a happy Adam after a successful project! That's pretty much the same engine as on my old Westwood that I bought back after my nextdoor neighbour died. It needs a bit of TLC, but the engine is still a good 'un! They sound well when they're on tune, and will literally tick over all day long and scarcely miss a beat. Restoration? It's your machine, it should be your choice. I'm not so sure about the clear coat, but I agree with de-nibbing the rust and blistered paint. Regular application of the oily rag looks better, to my mind, and I fear that sealing in the rust with lacquer won't stop it from creeping under the coating, and it's going to be a whole lot harder to remedy if it does. Myself, I'd favour the use of chainsaw "bar and chain oil" which is very clingy, and waterproof. Mixed with a drop of paraffin to thin down a bit, then brushed, sprayed, or rubbed on, it stays good for ages and is easy to redo to keep the weather out, and freshen up the appearance. Just my own thoughts. If I knew enough about it, I might even be tempted to try "Lanoguard" which seems to be popular right now. Alternatively, there's always a good rubdown with Waxoyl Clear?!
Yeah she runs good. I do like these engines tho. Yeah I could try a chemical to preserve the look. I will have current deck off next as I don't think the blades spin at the moment. May well need some new bearings. Wil get it done.
@@NorfolkMancave If you wanted to try it Adam there is Devils Blood (it's name is right as it smells like dead bodies) that takes the rust staining out of paint (also turns rust pits black i found) work, also I've found for removing them main jets the best tool is a chainsaw/disc cutter spanner/screwdriver (basically a box (13 X 19 or 17 X 19) spanner with a flat bladed screwdriver rod welded in a T form) as there's no taper to the tip so the blade bears against the whole of the slot in the jet and the T form allows much more torque to be applied.
Hello from Salina, Kansas USA, Adam! I know exactly what you mean about folks sending you messages and telling you about new projects just waiting to be bought when you're trying to behave, haha. I love the content, sir!
Ow hello from the other side of the pond. Yep, get it all the time. This time it was my Mrs that showed me this one. And then she says I don't need anymore projects. So why send it to me??? 🤣🤣🤣🤣. I do like a Wheel horse tho. 🐎
You've just watched the Duster build haven't you? 😂 A coat or two of clear laquer is just what I do unless it's a rare machine. But as you say that Briggs is a reliable workhorse, I had one that smoked and rattled and had hardly any piston rings yet it ran just fine! One thing you didn't do was see if the deck engaged. The gearbox seemed a but worn, if it starts jumping out of gear or lurching forward then the selector finger springs are in need of changing which is a mission! If you want to get rid of that bentonite grease inside then I can highly recommend a modern clean replacement.
Rust-orations & restorations bolth have their place. I think its not too far gone to still look good with its patina & like they say, its olny original once. I like that boiled linseed oil stuff, used it on my old Schwinn bike & other things... Did you know... That V shaped cut out on the cylinder head tin is for holding the spark plug clip so a fella can clean a clogged deck without the engine accedentley starting on him or for when a machine is serviced, I didn't... Has anyone ever seen an Air Horse Airplane Tug? ✌👍
Yeah i think I caught this Just in time to get away with keeping that look. Another season outside could well have sent her to the other side. No I never seen WH aircraft tug. Interesting.
Hi Adam, Well what can we say here, I know you said you have done a lot of this model cut it doesn’t take it away that you have once again done a great job 👏, Looking forward to your next project, Take care of yourself and stay safe.🛠️🛠️⭐️👍🌲🌲
Yeah I do like working on these engines I must say. There will be a few more vids in this yet. Going through the cutter deck and fixing steering column. Thanks for watching.
hi adam another great vid i enjoy all of your vids i have a idea for you get yourself one of those elevating small platforms so you can bring your projects up of the floor and save those knees or it will be painfull later in life lol
That's A awesome idea for it. Cause it'll preserve history and still be able to be used in the process of it all to. I say yes go for it. I really think the trouble you're having on that two colors Briggs & Stratton generator made by Stanley and Klein Stanley and strong burg is A clogged up and old rubber fuel hose that's just needing to be replaced is all on it. Going for the fuel tank to the carburetor. If you're name is Stan it's only A suggestion and my opinion on it though to. Although I know those older Briggs & Stratton engines very we'll myself to with those updraft carburetor's on them and they half to have more fuel supply than regular carburetor's do like the vacuum controlled fuel pumps ones set-up does to. For A constant fuel delivery fuel flow. Anyhow and anyways. Good 🤞 luck on that generator to.
Ow that bloody generator 🤣🤣. I not touched it since the last video. I will get Beck to it. As for the wheel horse I'm thinking of preserving it as it is. Weather it be oily rag or a clear coat. Got to go through the cutter deck next. This is one of a few videos I will be doing on this thing. Thanks for watching
After a light clean try coating with a mix of boiled linseed oil and white spirit (1/3 linseed 2/3 white spirit work for me as i am mean and white spirit is cheaper than linseed!) Use boiled linseed as raw linseed leaves a sticky residue EdT
Adam there was a company called Barclay Motors based in Bury St Edmunds years ago , they not only had a car busines but also a branch for farm machinery and i wonder if your mower was bought from there ?

Great runner on the first pull, oily rag restoration sounds good
Thanks 👍Yeah I like these engines I must say.
Yep I quite like the idea that you've come up with Adam... preserve it as is...
Cheers buddy 👍

Thank you! Will do! Think keeping that look is the way to go.
I like the clear coat idea
Yeah going with that I think 🤔
Keep up the good work really enjoy your channel
Excellent stuff😀you done a good job Adam. I think Scotch pad and clear lacquer. This way you keep the patina and it looks good. Well done Adam 😀
Yeah think that's what I'll do. Scotch and clear.

Thats a good engine with a cast iron cylinder sleeve
Yeah I do like these old lumps I must say. One of my favourite mower lumps.
Fantastic machine. Go for a light rub down to get some colour back on it and then clear coat.
That's the plan!

You got some slop at the bottom of the steering column needs checking out but nice job boy.
Yeah going to look at that next job. Plenty to do on this.

I've seen a few Douglas/David Brown aircraft tugs!

Scotch and clear.

Great stuff, good buy.
Thanks 👍
I would clear coat as it is Adam
Yeah I think she is in a good enough state to save as is. Think it would look good.
lube up the rest and it'll serve for mowing many more lawns.
Ow this was just the first video to see if it just ran. Plenty more to come I'm sure.

Yeah I might try that. Never really done it. See how long it lasts.
Adam there was a company called Barclay Motors based in Bury St Edmunds years ago , they not only had a car busines but also a branch for farm machinery and i wonder if your mower was bought from there ?
Aw thanks. Could well be. Bury St Ed is only about 40 miles away. Possibly a local mower.
I found it Genuine OEM B,S 19061= 19062 jet driver tools they work great
Now that would be a handy tool to have.
Three blades is much better than two as no need for a timing belt and all the associated complications.
Ow you are so right there. Them timed belts are a horrid idea.
There used to be a Barclay Motors in Bury st Edmunds, i think they dealt small agricultual machines?
Yeah somone else mentioned that. Could well be as Bury is only about 40 miles away. Could be a local machine.
you sure know your onions. proper job
Thanks my friend. I am quite good on these old engines. One of my favourites really.
but do the blades go round ?
Simple answer No 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Will be another video right there.
@@NorfolkMancave good to see mate
