Yes i totally agree with you! Political Dynasty here in the Philippines should stop! But we all know some filipino’s never seem to really care about the situation. The more money these politicians give the more they support these people! I really hope that the citizens of this country should wake up and really think very hard on who they are voting for!

I was on desk duty for a newspaper when the news broke out and I had to print copies of the photos from the wire agencies of the killing site, the victims and the backhoe that was used. I was surprised when the news editor suddenly gasp and shouted, "Oh my God. It's him," while looking at the photos. The editors then confirmed that one of the victims was one of the reporters from our company. Apparently they knew it was him because of the shirt he was wearing. 😭

My Father was a Battalion Commander (and a 4th year law student) when this took place. And my Mother is in the media, so this is a case close to my heart. Ampatuan SR was arrested by my Father himself from Maginadanao and brought to Davao. They later even filled legal charges against him that, when in fact that corrupt man with lots of blood in his hands had a WARRANT FOR HIS ARREST. After this my Father was awarded by the President at that time. I am so proud of him, he’s a well renowned General now for not fighting dirty even if he was done dirty by these politicians.
Political Dynasties need to stop. Both the Mangudadatus and Apmpatuans reigned for too long. Both have sins against their people they “govern” over.

I can see how Luzon and Visayas were shocked by these. But here in Mindanao, the Ampatuans have had an infamous reputation loOong before this even happened. Stories of massacres prior to this, cutting people in chainsaws, killings in broad daylight, stealing women about to be married in front of the groom and his family because they find them attractive.. I'm from Davao, Philippines. I remember when I was a kid, we had this CD that contained footage of the crime scene. I saw how the dead bodies were clawed with a backhoe and there were even human intestines on the ground. That was traumatizing for me as a kid. My grandmother ended up burning that CD.
P.S. I don't know where that CD even came from, or where my grandma got it because I don't think there is actual footage of the crime scene (not sure tho, I can't find any on the internet). Maybe someone secretly took a video and converted it into a CD.

they must have distributed it to ensure the safety(?) of the evidence. maybe? I mean these monsters could have people from the inside take the evidence and tamper/ destroy it or declare it missing/ stolen. so by distributing the cd then more people will know abt it (specially since internet and smart phone were not a thing at the time).

This is horrifying and depraved. It shows how dehumanizing power can be for those who would use it in corruption. The "shot between the legs" part truly sickened me. That is such an act of hatred for women but a message to Toto himself, they're saying your wife is nothing. The thought of a proper political campaign never crossed their minds? I'm glad Toto was elected and found strength to go on in memory of what his family and friends so happily sought for him.

This violence happens mostly in the Southern part of the country, in what is now Bangsamoro. I cannot get this politically correct because this statement is important why such violence happens in the country. That region is still a hotspot for politcal and civil unrest, and why proper political campaign is not the answer.
Mangundadatu is no saint either and many suspect that he knew beforehand that Amaptuans will not deter women and journalist from getting them killed, in fact many suspected he used them as a scapegoat to protect himself and get himself on a campaign.

My father was one of the journalists there, fortunately he survived. When the convoy stopped at a Petron Gas Station, he switched cars from UnTV Van to Joseph's car, his fellow journalist, since he heard that Joseph was gonna travel all alone by himself to Shariff Aguak, and my father didn't want him to go all alone since Jospeh was one of the main targets since he had released like a statement against the Ampatuan (?) While on their way to Shariff Aguak, my father and Joseph had come across the hotel they stayed in the night before the Massacre happend, they stopped in the hotel since Joseph wanted to use the restroom and my dad waited at the lobby. While waiting in the lobby two employees of the hotel approached my father and said that like an hour ago two unknown men came to the hotel and asked the staffs to give them the names of the journalists that were on the convoy, and of course my father was alarmed at that point and informed Joseph about it, they decided not to continue to Shariff Aguak and went back to Buluan since there was a Press Conference scheduled after the filing of candidacy. Upon reaching to the town of buluan, they stayed on Toto Mangundadatu's house, and after just 3 mins of sitting in his house, Toto Mangundadatu called them to come on the radio station where he was being interviewed at, and ig that's where my dad and Joseph knew that their fellow journalists got massacred. I was still not born at that time and only knew about the story when I was 9yrs old. He escaped being massacred in Nov. 23, 2009 but he didn't escape from Covid hitting him. My dad had unfortunately passed away in August 2021 due to COVID and other complications, he was a great father. I miss him every day, I hope he had find peace with God, no more suffering. ❤

While we were watching the hearing last 2019, he and his helper recalled that his son and many other prosecutors left the case because they were threatened. Hi Megan. I’ve watched almost all of your videos and continue watching it until I finish everything. I’m a fan. I like your delivery and how you present the case, that’s why I got hooked in your channel which is the first time for me. Thanks for featuring Philippines again. Political dynasties is really a big problem here in our country, the Philippines, which is very common in provinces/countryside. They’ve already made it a business and corrupt practices are normal for them to earn from people’s money while their constituents remain poor, weak and uneducated in order for them to remain their power.

@@justacuteonigiri The level of political dynasties in our country is on a different level. I can say around 98% (maybe even 100% lol) of our provinces all have political dynasties. Even our presidency have political dynasty. Just google “countries with political dynasty” or “political dynasty”, and Philippines or its past or present politicians will always be mentioned. There was even one site that we are number 1 in list of countries with political dynasty. Just like in traffic, a lot of places has traffic but we are currently the number 1 for having worst traffic in the world. LOL.

i was a 4th year nursing student when this happened. We were on AM shift at Davao Doctors Hospital in 3A department. Our clinical instructor was told to recall us because Andal Ampatuan was being admitted due to "heart attack". The whole department and hospital was in chaos that day because military personnel were stationed inside the hospital and also outside his room. Fear strucked all of us. No staff is allowed to go inside his room without an I.D and an escort. It was really rough. According to the staff, he never had a heart attack. His doctor also stated that all of his laboratory results to confirm a heart attack came back negative.

I remember this happening and was wondering why they suddenly, one day, reporters stopped talking about it. This is also the point when local media started to shift into more gossipy and saucy topics and no longer go in depth in investigative journalism. Especially those concerning political leaders and people in power.

My neighbor unfortunately was one of the victims. I was a kid back then, but I can clearly remember the time when we went to his wake. His head was covered with plastic cellophane because it was severely damaged and as a respect to his body. This case was too slow and too painful for the families. Rest in peace to all of the victims.

oh my god. finally you covered this case. (i was not able to check and watch this right away due to busy work sched) i remember when this breaking news came out, I was on my way to school and I remember wondering what was the reason behind and when I was younger when I knew it was about politics, I remember brushing it off since it was complicated for me at a young age. I was 11 at that time.
and now, as I unlearn the whole reason it makes me sad that those who were k*lled ESPECIALLY THOSE WHO WERE NOT ACTUALLY PART OF THE CONVOY, did not get such justice and will forever linger this traumatic experience. and i hate how Andal Sr. died right away, it's like he was not given a very hard time and escaped the crime thru dying.
and I just recently learned from my boyfriend that Toto Mangudadatu is also a corrupt politician and supports the current PH president -- which is now the son of our former president who was a dictator in the 1970's up to 1986. 😢 and learned that he was one of the highest officials who opposed to abolishing the Pork Barrel Scam Corruption Case -- the political scandal of misusing the funds.

Thanks for this Ms. Megan. For many years, I haven’t been able to move on and got traumatized. I am one of the university students traveling from Cotabato City to Koronadal City. The day this happened, men in military uniforms advised our university transport to not pass through at a stated time, but rather travel at a later time or date. I remember all of us were puzzled and good thing we did not pass through. However, we had neighbors who were just traveling for a routine check up wound up with the convoy and sadly, were one of those people executed and buried in the mass grave.
