    I share your concern when working around electrical wiring. Generally irrigation electrical systems are low voltage. So if you were to accidentally slice through the insulation, since you were wearing well insulated clothing you might experience little to no electrical tickle -- rather than a VOLT. 😵

      Ah well, Everyone has to set their priorities. Yesterday we rescued/ relocated six odd hybrid hives left behind by an old Romanian beekeeper that hadn't been opened in three years. They were scheduled to be destroyed by the city tomorrow.
      Beekeeping can be very interesting sometimes.

    Hi Mr. Rich, I currently have an empty hive, if you need to get rid of excess bees, as long as they are not aggressive!

      I really don’t have much time off to add another responsibility to my busy schedule but you are welcome to come over and see what I’m doing in my backyard! I’m just a bit north of you in Boca.

      BIG bee club in Palm Beach County that does a lot of Saturday workshops. Check out the Palm Beach County Beekeepers Association.

      Thank you Mr. Rich, I need to look into it since I m already invested in gear and a hive, next is to get in touch with the state inspector to come check my hive and get the approval for the permit.

      You are welcome. The inspectors are great people to work with, nothing to worry about. But just so you know, many people join the bee club up to a year before they get their first bees so that they get a foundation and an opportunity to work in a hive and handle bees. I didn't, but wish I had.

      Hi Rich. I am first year with 3 swarm catches. I live in Central Florida the Bees are doing great!!! Question is it better to have two 10 frame deeps before I add a Honey super, or can I add the super to a full single bottom?

    • @southflbeekeepingwithrich
      @southflbeekeepingwithrich  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      White vinegar to which I add some creosote tars from cleaning my smoker.

      @@reubenmcvey3 First, congratulations on your swarm catches. Definitely the way to go. You can definitely add a honey super to a full single deep bottom, but you will probably be swapping honey for sugar in the fall. But that is only the beginning of your journey. You now need to do a lot of reading and decide whether you are going to do single deep brood box management (much more intensive than double deep management), or deep and medium brood box management (better in areas of unpredictable fall flow), or double deep management. Again, very dependent on your nectar flows. The problem with a double deep brood box can be that A: bees with a lot of resources to defend can be a lot more defensive, and B: bees with a lot of mouths to feed can get very defensive of their resources. I just said the same thing from two perspectives. My best advice is to ask everybody you can in your area what works best for them. For instance, I spend a lot of time between Zolfo Springs and Bartow on 17, and note that a lot of apiaries there do a deep and medium for the brood chamber. My solution to this was to go to all medium boxes and overwinter in 2 mediums, go to three in spring, and back down to 2 in the fall. Much like a deep and medium setup, but with a bit more flexibility.
