Isn't it strange? He has something to say to almost everthing in a video but almost always didn't get the obvious things. The whole setting is in the 30s and he is confused by the derringer. But not the Tommy-Gun? The hair styles? the police man's uniform. Weird
The pistol Ronnie has is a Derringer. Generally a double-barreled, easily concealed pistol for self-defense. They've been around since the 1800s and come in all sorts of calibers. Also, back when this first came out, I didn't realize that was Jon Hamm that she takes with her. 🤣
Easier for self-defense not as much kickback as a normal pistol so it's easier for women to carry around back then or like someone trying to be stealthy
@@ututtx518 they're small enough to stick in a garter belt *very* easily, and I assume this was part of the intention in these specific 'lady gun' from unruly 'customers' in.. *the oldest profession*

If you haven't read this yet... Lonely Island isn't a music group. They are but... they are more of a sketch comedy troupe. They had pilots for their own show twice in the 2000's for MTV and Fox before Lorne Michas hired them into Saturday Night Live. The two as writers and Andy as the talent. So they got most if the big named stars to do tracks with them when they came onto SNL... Either they'd write a music sketch intentionally to get the star to do an SNL bit with them and if they could they'd be like "hey... we're doing an album"
Ronnie and Clyde is a play on Bonnie and Clyde who were sweetheart stickup artists in the 1930s. (Interesting story, bad end via law enforcement.) Ronnie's outfit is a callback to the 1960s biopic with Warren Beatty and Fay Dunaway, although there are pictures of the real Bonnie in similar styles.
If you haven't done it yet, Lonely Island's 'Finest Girl (Bin Laden Song)', from the movie Popstar, is an absolute _must!_ And look for the uncensored version, of course.
I think Semicolon would be one you’d really enjoy :) and once you’re done with Lonely Island, you gotta check out Spinal Tap and Flight of the Conchords!
Ronnie is dressed as Bonnie Parker. Just like Rihanna is Clyde Barrow. You know, Ronnie and Clyde. Bonnie and Clyde. I don't know of her ever wearing that exact outfit, but there are dozens of pictures of her wearing pretty much that exact hat in black, and nearly every picture of her I've ever seen is wearing that length of skirt. So, you know, pretty on the ball for an SNL skit.
Thanks for this reaction. This is the why SNL is so timeless. Weirdness with top level at the moment talent and production value. You are so precise..radio ready! Well said, sir.
I have absolutely no idea how i found you but ive spent the last 5 hours watching you react yo Lonely Island/Bill Burr/Gabirel Iglesias and have laughed my ass off. Definitely subscribing.
👏🤩 Seeing your awesome reaction to this awesome music video which I have been loving to enjoy since like the end of 2011 totally reminds myself about how I had seen this one before I ever saw the first-one and I also suggest that you review the 100th Digital Short from SNL as it cameos so many crazy characters from SNL like himself as well as so many others so yeah…
Ronnie and Clyde is doing Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker - hence the skirt and bank robbery... The handgun is a Derringer - 2 barrels, very short, probably in .38, a concealable/pocket firearm.
I Recommend watching Brooklyn-Nine-Nine. Andy Samberg (Shy Ronnie) is the main character there. It's a Comedy TV Show with a great cast and writers, as well as unique characters.
"Lazy Sunday" is the first music video I remember seeing on SNL. Not saying it WAS the first but it's definitely when I became aware of who Andy Samberg is. Very poor quality and low production but it's still my favorite, I'm pretty sure you'll love it too.🙂
Ronnie is only shy around Rihanna- so that's obviously his crush but she's got him in the friend/accomplice zone so he's bottling up all that sexual tension and unleashes it as soon as she's outside of earshot from him because he's too shy to tell her how he really feels. He doesn't want to rob banks or do class presentations for kids- he just wants to spend time with that woman. She puts him up to that stuff and if it means he gets to hang with her, he's in! Poor guy. so tragic cuz if she saw his hardcore side- (She likes rude boys) she'd probably see him in another light and like him too. Lol. Shy Ronnie 2 is one of the best sounding tracks Rihanna has ever been on. She really shines on it.
@user-rx2oc5tl3u Are you for real? I'd bet that's exactly how Andy Samberg pitched it. I re-read my comment, and if anything, it's overly obvious. If I'm so wrong, then explain it to me. Don't just shoot it down with nothing to back it up.
You should check out the 100th digital short. Really goes to show the progression of these videos. Also Lazy Sunday is the video that really put The Lonely Island on the map, even if it is a little dated at this point.
Just a little note why they got all the celebrities. It's a mix of four things. 1. There already had the most clicked video on TH-cam before (well Justin Timberlake was in it so he is a friend of the group) which makes it great publicity for the internet demographic 2. They were (are?) part of Saturday Night Live so i guess they asked the guest of the show if they want to do it. 3. "Everyone know that it's all about the money". Who knows what they got for it. 4. Maybe they just have fun. Most of the stars were at that point huge stars already so they can't screw up their careers with a little joke video.
This has always been one of my favorite songs from The Lonely Island. You had me dying when you were cracking up bro 😂 Same with the I Just Had Sex reaction
It would be dope to have Ronnie cut loose on one. In the meantime, I'd say their most aggressive raps would be Semicolon, Lazy Sunday, and Finest Girl.
That firearm is a Derringer. Typically prostitutes, gamblers and criminals carried them. Because most towns forbade the carrying of guns. So a Derringer was a way to escape that. The calibers varied too. It was offered in most calibers. Some even had nice grips. Like the Bauer .25acp.
Shy Ronnie really out here inventing the whole genre of mumble rap.
Hilarious if he did
They're all a bunch of Dick Tracey characters.
Facts
He did it in 2009, and the genre started in 2010's with it being named and becoming a thing around 2014.
Damn but for real though 😂
I specifically would like to see more of this specific type of content.
Ha HAAA!
Yes, myself as well. Specifically this type of content.
Ditto
Potentially, guys
You're outta luck. He's reacted to everything this style.
Lets be real here. We could all have that energy and every one of us would turn to Shy Ronnie with Rihanna around.
Confident as fuck whole life til next to her then curled up hoping not to embarass self.
you are speaking for the spineless jellyfish, not the rest of us
That smile on Jon Hamm's face is priceless.
I'd smile to if Rihanna took me and said I was gonna tap that
I think you missed the "Bonnie and Clyde" reference. Ronnie is dressed as Bonnie.
Isn't it strange? He has something to say to almost everthing in a video but almost always didn't get the obvious things. The whole setting is in the 30s and he is confused by the derringer. But not the Tommy-Gun? The hair styles? the police man's uniform. Weird

I believe you were thinking of the derringer pistols. I think if we keep Ronnie away from Rihanna he'll be just fine.
He’s in the dress and sweater and she’s in the suit because it’s Ronnie and Clyde…
That Derringer is a .40 caliber. It packs a punch, if you don't shoot your own foot.
Rihanna is fucking stunning, great collaboration with “Hot Rod” Shy Ronnie, and at yo funeral yo mama gon cryyyyyy😢
I just Had Sex Ft Akon is a classic from this group.
Btw, this must’ve inspired mumble rappers everywhere. 😂
"Wait, I can just whisper over a fire hook and people will love it? Gee thanks shy ronnie"
Lol damn, shy ronnie a prophet
I could imagine an entire movie about Rhianna and Shy Ronnie having an adventure together.

I can see someone being shy around someone as gorgeous as Rihanna!
Can't blame Ronnie, I'd be shy around Rhianna too!
I love that the more Lonely Island you see, the more you're cracking up.
Give “Boombox” a listen. That’s one of their underrated hits in comparison to the usual requested tracks
Gotta do Like A Boss. By far one of their best. Also recommend listening to the title track of Incredibad. Its an enlightening experience

Lazy Sunday and Lazy Sunday 2 are both excellent to my mind.
Haha I'm 2 minutes and waiting for him to catch that reference Ronnie rhymes with Bonnie and Clyde legendary bank robber's
I think he didn't mention it because it was painfully obvious to everyone already.
You should check out Jon Lajoie. I like him even more than Lonely Island.
"Radio friendly song" or "Evereday normal guy"
Yeah, he was good. This comment also made me think of Stephen Lynch. I used to watch him around the same time and he's got some good songs
Or I kill people 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ronnie is supposed to be representing Bonnie from Bonnie and Clyde. That’s why he is wearing a dress. 🤙🏼
"Why did I think you could do this?" is the funniest line of the whole Shy Ronnie series!
I think Semicolon would be one you’d really enjoy :) and once you’re done with Lonely Island, you gotta check out Spinal Tap and Flight of the Conchords!

Boombox and Dream Girl are a couple of my favorites from them
"Not Shy" Ronnie is Andy Sandberg, 'Hot Rod' is good silly fun and I still need to see 'That's My Boy'
So shy ronnie is only shy around Rihanna
Thanks for this reaction. This is the why SNL is so timeless. Weirdness with top level at the moment talent and production value. You are so precise..radio ready! Well said, sir.
When you say hilarious it reminds me of my friend who passed back in March that was also from NY. Love your reactions man.
Lets be honest, most of us would turn into shy Ronnie if we too had to sing in front of Rihanna.
The actor she takes at the end is the famous Jon Hamm (Mad Men, Good Omens, etc.)
Would love to see a reaction to Lonely Island - Space Olympics :D
Yes!
Space Olympics is great. Though I'd love to see his reaction to Turtleneck and Chain and No Homo even though neither have music videos.
"Like a Boss" is a must.
This is absolutely the best Jon Hamm cameo.
Jon Hamm's cameo is the best. The dude is so funny.
Ronnie is wearing a dress because in this video Ronnie is Bonnie! Not Clyde
