This was so big when it came out that a car dealership from I believe Kentucky remade it to be keys in a box. It was taken down from TH-cam over what I’m sure was a copyright claim but it was fantastic lol. If I’m not mistaken it was a Cadillac dealer. I’m sure it exists somewhere on the internet but I’ve not been able to fine it for years. Maybe someone else watching this has also seen it.

In the 70's early eighties, there was a movie, (Maybe the movie 'Diner' or 'Porky's) where the guy is at the movies with his girl and he cuts a hole in the popcorn and sticks his thing in it. The girl keeps eating popcorn until she gets down to the real nitty-gritty, so to speak. Since then I have seen many variations of this comic gag. This song is the funniest of all of them.
The Golden Rule(3-Way) is the 3rd and final chapter to the trilogy. As for the production values, Dick in a Box came out while Andy was writing/acting on SNL, so they had a tiny skit budget. Mother Lover came out on Lonely Island's second album, so they definitely had far more to spend. The Golden Rule is off their third album, and, again, has higher production values as well.
I recently saw Seth Meyer interview magician David Copperfield, and they talked about how Andy Samberg's bachelor party went to a DC performance and afterward, David did a custom Phallus-in-a-box illusion!
The reason for the lower production value on this is that it was thrown together in a week when J.T. was hosting SNL. That's also why they edited the language. It was broadcast on NBC.

Seems like you may be missing what at least I feel is the funniest part, that a bonafide musical superstar, Justin Timberlake from NSync is the one doing this with Adam Sanberg. Seeing a legit musical celebrity lending his talent to this hilarious series is irony on the highest level. Also, remember, when this short first played on SNL people did not know the title of the sketch and had no idea where it was going. So the shock factor for the “dick in the box” - especially on regular TV - just added to the hilarity.

The reason for the lower production value on this is that it was thrown together in a week when J.T. was hosting SNL. That's also why they edited the language. It was broadcast on NBC.
I can't believe no one has commented that this is a rip of the look of Color Me Badd....they acknowledged it and it smacked me in the face the first time I saw it.
I think the shabby production value was on purpose - you were right, it's a 90s R&B homage of two dude dudes in a downtown baseball court. It's a naughty Boyz II Men re-make but the other two didn't make it. These II have a special bond as we all know too well!
Absolutely done this as a surprise Christmas gift. Lol my son is now 6.
At the time...This was pure hotness. Everybody was talking about it and Justin had already been a household name. The Lonely Island album didn't even come out till months later...Which that song was big. That song was just as absurd. The name was Jizz in my Pants!
Seems like you may be missing what at least I feel is the funniest part, that a bonafide musical superstar, Justin Timberlake from NSync is the one doing this with Adam Sanberg. Seeing a legit musical celebrity lending his talent to this hilarious series is irony on the highest level. Also, remember, when this short first played on SNL people did not know the title of the sketch and had no idea where it was going. So the shock factor for the “dick in the box” - especially on regular TV - just added to the hilarity.
