99,93 % of your description was correct 👌 Note, horsepower is always the first number mentioned, but like cars, it's about pulling power, right? The Ducati has 121 nm torque, a GSA1200 from 2010 had 120 nm torque 🤔 yeaah I'm still bmw fan 🤭
I have a multistrada 950S. I love the ducatis but in this comparation I think the mts is outmatched. LC8 is perhaps the best engine ever in the motorcycle industry. The SAR designs is different and I love the alien look. It have all the eletronic gadgets you need. And at then of the day the price difference, and everything that comes with it (ducati premium price in everything) breaks the deal
Yes but have you seen how Ducati advertised this motorcycle? They used offroad videos also. Can't take the SAS as a comparison as it does not have a descent skid plate or wired wheels for crazy offroad bonanza 😁. But when it comes to electronics and suspension yes then it would be the S for sure. 😎
I did have the 2022 1290 SAS and I did test rode the V4s. And if I had a choice I would pick the KTM because I like the engine concept more then V4. Both are amazing bikes.
This is only channel that puts up intriguing bikes against each other. Top brands like KTM vs Ducati. I live in Javea, Spain and fortunate to own a 2022 KTM SAS in all black with SC-Project exhaust and is savage and 2023 Ducati Multistrada PP. The KTM is Max Max brass knuckles Dakar fighter whereas the Ducati is that Mafia hitman Italian with refinement and a Valentino full piece suit. Both incredible, both unlike the other. I still intend to get that black Rally. That brushed aluminium tank. 🔥
One HUGE issue at least in USA on KTM is the horrible offset rear valve stem with tpms. Tpms sensors leak, when your actually offroad for multiple days carrying camping gear you don't have another 27 lbs for a offset tube.....in 41 dealers, across 11 states all motorcycle shops and dealers said "we never stock offset tubes".....so does the Ducati have offset rear valve stem? If not then it offers an advantage offroad as the KTM is not field serviceable.
Great video! Just found your channel when surfing for info between these 2 bikes. I have an KTM 1290 Super Adventure S but test rode a Rally today for about an hour and a half. Not really enough time to get a good impression. So, I have a question for you! Regarding alpine roads, would you still go for the Rally now, 1 year later?
KTM forever my dear, Ducati is “passione and many visitis to dealer” i know that many had problems with some of the KTM SAR, but i would like to speak as per my experience. 36.000 kms and no issues - just a smile in my face 😎
I will never prefer a Ducati! Such expensive repairs! I love my 1290 SDR, even though its not an adventure bikes, it brings me lots of thrills and adventures! And you showed us all, that it does off road too anyways ;)
Cool that you've got these bikes together and covered some of the interesting bits. However, I found it dull with you just reading out all those specs, especially where so many are irrelevant or could quickly be summarised as "the same" (7mm is not 7cm!). Constructively, I would suggest you apply your passion as demonstrated for gloveboxes (totally valid!) to include other aspects of the bikes that also make a difference to ownership and riding. Like how much better the Ducati configurability is (DRLs, per-mode customisation etc) or how much better the KTM steering lock is (short press and hold at any time to lock, vs ... well ... just try doing that on the Ducati). Differences between CCs, controls, mirrors. Actively seek out stuff that's different between the two bikes and isn't listed on manufacturer websites. Maybe you need to spend some more quality time with the bike(s) before rushing out a comparison? BTW the centrestand lift is massively affected by the state that you leave the rear shock preload in - e.g. if you used the drop mode before parking. Try setting highest preload first.
It's just that damn price ... Asked the local dealer for an identically equipped Ducati Rally with Alu panniers, crash bar, Akrapovic, etc, to my 3 year old shiny new looking 1250 GSA with Akrapovic and a plethora of aftermarket stuff (like Denali lights, sound bomb, brake-lights, heated seats, touring screen, etc., etc. etc.) and the price I'd need to pay on top is more than they would trade my BMW in for 😲😲😲 ... Makes the Ducati just inaccessible and the swap to be the dumbest move. But i do love that Rally especially after having tested it!. Soo, in a nutshell, the Rally is: as a bike 10/10; value for money: 0/10
The V4 Rally when driven as a long distance touring bike has a real live fuel consumption of less than 5 ltrs/100 km. In the last 4000 km with the Rally through Italy (currently in Sicily), I have never managed to get a fuel consumption of over 6 ltrs / 100 km. It is just a dream to ride.
Yep sold the GT , the SAR is the same engine as the GT but likes to ride slow also without behaving naughty. The GT is an R with fenders. Very aggressive riding style , the SAR is a Cadillac with the same overpowered engine 😌
Which would you take on a 4000 mile road trip? I guess it’s technically 8000 cause I’d have to ride home. Indiana to Alaska and back. More considering reliability and maintenance, ease of service in case something does happen. I’m sure the Ducati will probably be more comfortable but will it break down on me or leave me stranded vs the ktm. I guess you could throw the bmw GS into the equation as well.
One day I might test ride a KTM ..but there is just something about them i can’t explain ..I really couldn’t spend money on one ..I just don’t find them desirable ..I’ve just purchased a Mandello and may need another italian friend for it ..but it might be the diavel not the adv
What was that intro? Hella impressive. Was it a magical moment of inspiration, ChatGPT or did you hire a writer? I’m yet to move past 20 seconds of the video.
I own the 1290 sas but I must be honest, on the road the V4 is « better ». By better I mean much more powerfull and comfy, but I definitly prefer the « fun » on the KTM
does a 1290 sar behave totally normal with 21 inch wheels. I found a great deal on one and want to buy it. My main focus is roadfocused and start offroading later on. Just want to make sure the 1290 sar will still perform perfectly on road.
The KTM 1290 SAR any day. You can take it on road and off-road, it's cheaper and more reliable than anything Italian. Also, in my humble opinion, the KTM looks way better. The last thing I wanted to point out is that KTM has a rally pedigree and that cannot be beaten by any other maker, they just know what they are doing. I've only had the KTM 1290 SAR for a few months after trying a few other bikes including the BWM 1290 GS, and the KTM is just a better motorbike, especially if you are planning to go off-road a lot. Check out Chris Birch on TH-cam and you can see the guy taking the motorbike to some crazy terrains, this bike, for its size and power, can take a lot of beating. Love the bike and unless KTM makes a better version of this, I will never replace it. Good stuff and love your channel/s.
I dropped my Rally already😳 lucky me, I have the protection bars mounted and panniers from Mosco-Moto on it. Not even a scratch… 😅 but yeah, it’s really heavy lifting it up…🤪
2 bangelijke moto’s … maar geef mij toch maar ne GS (sorry, kon het niet laten 😂) 😜😊. Volgende keer misschien eens nen Hypermotard? Lijkt me ook wel een tof machien.
I'm sorry but even in the intro, you introducing the new Ducati and the KTM, the Ducati's name just sounded, well, limp (I was going to use a different expression but I realised it is not politically correct so I changed my mind). KTM for me on name alone 💪🤙👊
2 Mistakes have been made by yours truly in this video , can you find the 2 things that are wrong? 😁
240 gramm wet weight (not kilogram) and 7 cm's of ground clearance (instead of mm's). Right? What do I win? Can I get to keep the Ducati?! ;-)
17" Rearwheel instead the 18" you said 😉 but now worries I like your videos also ❤
Ground clearance difference is 7mm, not 7cm.
I have tried looking for your ktm model, but unsuccessful, has It been wrapped, that scheme looks awesome!
Great video!!… I went with SAR and didn’t regret it for a second, Multistrada is amazing bike but SAR is a monster!!!
I have a multistrada 950S. I love the ducatis but in this comparation I think the mts is outmatched. LC8 is perhaps the best engine ever in the motorcycle industry. I appreciate the reviews, looking at a new V4 tomorrow.
I feel that the better comparison would have been the KTM 1290 Super Adventure S. Both more roadfocussed.
This is the right comparison. Ducati has a v4s. This is their new rally. So Ducati Rally to KTM rally comparison. It’s apples to apples.
I agree. The KTM S is a better comparison, as they both have similar electronics. KTM S a better fuel range than the standard multi.
Thinking the same. The S does not have a skid plate or wired wheels. If you want cracked wheels you should take an S offroad 😁.
@@LifeofSmokey I agree, for that u definetly need to add the powerparts wheels / skidplate. Marketing aside those 2 are much closer though.
Good job! Well said!
I did have the 2022 1290 SAS and I did test rode the V4s. And if I had a choice I would pick the KTM because I like the engine concept more then V4. Both are amazing bikes.

10/10 value for money
Way to go Smokey! Great video and mostly objective comparison. Humor is your hallmark, keep it up.
Brilliant watching , .Carl uk 🇬🇧
KTM super adventure 🤩🔥
Cool ChatGPT intro ;)
Man, your KTM sounds great!
Yep! Every time I start it I fall in love again haha
9:31 it's not 7cm... 242-235=7mm which is almost nothing
I heard that mistake too. Lol
Might have said that wrong , my sincere apologies I'm just starting out doing this 😁👌
@@LifeofSmokey You’re all good in my book. Keep up the great work! 🙂👍

I mean I wouldn't complain about the KTM in my garage, but that Ducati V4... 😃

I must agree! It's an addictive bike for sure 😊
Mr Smokey, what seats are you running on the KTM
What phone to you have? Curious what phone fits into the rally.
Iphone 14 Pro 😌
What happened to your GT? Did you sell it? How does the GT compare to the adventurer?
Yep sold the GT , the SAR is the same engine as the GT but likes to ride slow also without behaving naughty. The GT is an R with fenders. Very aggressive riding style , the SAR is a Cadillac with the same overpowered engine 😌
I love the ducati.. But the ktm looks so badass. Quite hard to choose. Desmo costs €1200. What does the big maintenance cost for the ktm?

I believe all 3 are good to do the job. But for a very long trip I would go for the Ducati just because it had comfy 170hp 😁.

Hahaha agree!! But the Multi is sooooo comfy , I might be getting old lol
terrible off-road ergonomics on the v4, very restrictive.
I should ask Ducati for a crash proof version and go all out I guess haha
The KTM is lighter, has better fuel economy and can actually go off-road. So KTM wins
