    I have had the lock on my basement door for about six years and I could not for the life of me, find the screws to remove this thing. I have been looking this lock up for so long and then TH-cam decided to work with me for once and lead me to this video, and I was able to change out my lock in just minutes! Thank you for making my Headache go ahead for once.

    Thanks so much for the great tip. It worked for one door with deadbolts, but with the second door's deadbolt one face easily came off but despite the proper technique the other face wouldn't budge. I suspect a stripped alan screw inside. Any suggestions? Thank you. Puzzled

    • @vaoutdoorssportsman3555
      @vaoutdoorssportsman3555  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Julie Schirmer - Most likely you are correct that the issue is a stripped allen screw. If it is a stripped allen screw, you can use an "EZ Out" to grip and turn our you screw. I recommend that you ask your local hardware store for an "EZ Out" set to remove a stripped screw; they should be able to show you the correct product. Just be careful not to break off the tool when you are using the EZ Out as they are harder and more brittle then the screws you will be removing. Good luck with your project!

    • @julieschirmer717
      @julieschirmer717 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the prompt reply. I will work with your solutions. I will also press my luck and ask another question. I have a 25 year old Schlage front door set with outdoor key and indoor button and a square decorative plate on the door. Twisting off the round decorative plates elsewhere worked well in the rest of the house but this square plate will not come off. I have twisted, pryed, and poked every tiny hole in the apparatus and I cannot get the thing off. The Schlage rep on customer service was useless. The door-edge bolt plate will not come off from without. Any suggestions? Thanks again. Julie

    • @vaoutdoorssportsman3555
      @vaoutdoorssportsman3555  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Julie Schirmer - It sounds like you have a real puzzler there. Without seeing the lock firsthand, I am not of any use. The only recommendation I have is to take note if there are other houses in the neighborhood (assuming you live in a neighborhood) to see if your neighbors have similar locks. You may also have a well established locksmith in the area or handyman that may have worked on that type of lock before. It never hurts to ask around. I hope you are able to figure it out. Please let me know what happens! Good luck with your project!!

    • @julieschirmer717
      @julieschirmer717 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks again. I collected all sorts of tools to drill out the alan screw and I WD-40ed it for 24 hours. I then attacked it with a brand new 5/64th alan wrench and that was all it took! NOW I have successfully removed all the knobs and locks from my 1st floor.........except one. It is a brass outdoor/indoor (front door) Schlage key and button like all the others except instead of a round decorative plate against the door it has a square brass plate. Nothing I can do will get it off. I have stuck pins in all sorts of holes, pryed it, twisted it and nothing works. Any ideas short of calling a locksmith? Puzzled still.

    • @vaoutdoorssportsman3555
      @vaoutdoorssportsman3555  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If you have the same type of deadbolt, you don't need the key to remove it. I only used the key to extend the bolt out to show the allen key hole. If you notice, the second side I removed without extending the bolt. The Allen key is a standard allen wrench, I'm not sure of the size off hand.

    I’m trying to remove a deadbolt for which I have no key. The door is open already and I need to replace the old deadbolt. There are two(bolts/nails)?! On one side/face of this deadbolt. It also seems to be a bit smaller of a setup than usual. Haven’t tried the Allen wrench yet. I’d appreciate some help and thank you kindly!

    • @vaoutdoorssportsman3555
      @vaoutdoorssportsman3555  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rich Mahogany - if you have the same deadbolt, there are two small holes on either side of the bolt, behind the cover plate, that allow access to the allen set screws. I show the holes at 1:12 of the video. You don’t need the key to remove the deadbolt, I used the key in the video only to show the allen set screw holes.

      John Williamson - the bolt is pretty much self explanatory, remove the two Phillips screws on the face plate and it slides right out without any sweat or tears. 👍🏻

      Try a 1/8, 7/64, or 3/32. If none of those work it may be stripped, you can always try an ez out. Let me know how it works out for you.
