Have you ever heard of spiritual prostitution. I'm not sure I had either until today.
But we’re going to see God speak about it today in Leviticus 19-21

Holiness in Personal Conduct
Vs 1-2
The Lord also said to Moses, 2 “Give the following instructions to the entire community of Israel. You must be holy because I, the Lord your God, am holy.
Respect your parents
Observe the Sabbath
Don’t trust in idols
Don’t eat any left overs from a sacrifice past the 2nd day - on the 3rd day you will be cut off from the community
Leave some crops for the poor and foreigners
Don’t steal or rob
Don’t deceive
Don’t swear
Pay people on time
Don’t insult the deaf or cause the blind to stumble
Justice for all
Don’t gossip or slander
Help your neighbor when they are in need
Forgive people - don’t hold a grudge
Love people as yourself
don’t mate two different animals
don’t plant in the same field 2 different kinds of sead
let the fruit trees sit for 3 years without picking them after planted
consecrate the crop on the 4th year - on the 5th year you can eat the fruit
don’t eat meat that’s not been drained of blood
don’t practice fortune telling or witchcraft
don’t cut your body
don’t tattoo your body
don’t sell your children as sex slaves
keep the sabbath day holy - rest
don’t consult mediums or fortune tellers
respect the elderly
don’t take advantage of foreigners
don’t lie
Punishment for disobedience
vs 22-27
“You must keep all my decrees and regulations by putting them into practice; otherwise the land to which I am bringing you as your new home will vomit you out.23 Do not live according to the customs of the people I am driving out before you. It is because they do these shameful things that I detest them. 24 But I have promised you, ‘You will possess their land because I will give it to you as your possession-a land flowing with milk and honey.’ I am the Lord your God, who has set you apart from all other people.
25 “You must therefore make a distinction between ceremonially clean and unclean animals, and between clean and unclean birds. You must not defile yourselves by eating any unclean animal or bird or creature that scurries along the ground. I have identified them as being unclean for you. 26 You must be holy because I, the Lord, am holy. I have set you apart from all other people to be my very own.
27 “Men and women among you who act as mediums or who consult the spirits of the dead must be put to death by stoning. They are guilty of a capital offense.”
don’t offer your children as sacrifices
Shun the people who sacrifice their children - or your guilty of association
***vs 5 Spiritual prostitution by worshiping Molech
Spiritual prostitution --
• offering your child as a sacrifice to moloch
• trusting in mediums
• consulting dead spirit
Death penalty - to wipe out wickedness
• dishonors their parents
• committing adultery
• having sexual relationship with your mother
• having sexual relationship with daughter in law (both put to death)
• homosexuality
• man marries a mom and a daughter - all 3 burned to death
• bestiality
Punished
• man marries his sister
• people who have sexual relationship during menstrual period
• man has a relationship with his aunt - both will die childless
• man marries brother’s wife - both will die childless
Instructions for the priests to stay ceremonially clean vs 6
21:6 They must be set apart as holy to their God and must never bring shame on the name of God. They must be holy, for they are the ones who present the special gifts to the Lord, gifts of food for their God.
• don’t touch dead body (unless father, mother, daughter, son, bother or virgin sister)
• don’t shave heads or trim beards
• who priest marry must be holy, a virgin from his own clan, no prostitution or divorcee or widow
• priest daughter become a prostitution it defiles the priest and she must be burned
• brush their hair
• No descendants with any deflect will be allowed to offer sacrifices in the holy place
What stood out to you today?
God’s desire for holiness.
He said “be holy because I am holy
I the lord am holy and I make you holy”
His whole purpose for the OT law was to help the people live a holy life. Now we can live a holy life through the process of sanctification .. and daily walking with God.
