We just bought our rubicon about two weeks ago and literally the day we bought it and brought it home the camera screen went dark. I went off of your video and disconnected the battery, left it disconnected for about 15 min, then connected the two terminals back. That fixed the issue, temporarily. I called the dealership and told them about it, the guy said “oh no” that’s it. I was really annoyed. Last night it happened again so I’m going to take it to the dealership so they can see for themselves. 50k jeep should not be doing that. Anyways thanks for posting this video made it really easy for me! 👍👍
Sorry to hear this is still happening. I'm baffled at how many folks are still having this issue that appears to be a few years old now. You would think Jeep would've fixed it by now. Glad the video helped you at least for a bit. Hopefully the dealer will get it sorted it out. I still love my Jeep despite its quirks that can be frustrating on a brand new vehicle.
Just picked up a 2021 Rubicon JLU and drove it home last night. Used the back up camera guidelines to confirm my parking in the garage last night. This morning the guidelines are gone. Double checked the System Camera controls and they are "Checked" to show "Active Guidelines". Went back and forth between Fixed and Active and still don't have guidelines showing. Took it to the dealership I bought the car from and now they have it for the day. LESS THEN 50 MILES! This is my 5th Jeep, 2nd Wrangler and first Rubicon. Nothing like getting all the bells and whistles and then having a problem 15 hours later.
Update: Just got a call from the dealership - they stated they did a "reconfiguration" and now the guidelines are back. Asked if they did a software update and they stated it was more of a "reconfiguration". Mentioned I found this thread on TH-cam and the problems happening across the country and he had no comment. JEEP - Just Empty Every Pocket!!!
2nd Update: Just went back to the dealership to pick up my Rubicon JLU that they said was fixed (Reconfigured) and got in the Jeep to leave and still no backup guidelines showing. Walked back in and told them and they are now reaching out to an Onstar Technical group waiting for a response.
My 2021 Jeep Wrangler back up camera just did the black screen. I’m going to wait a day and c what happens. Thank u so much for the info it truly helped! Especially bc i’m not really good with all the tech stuff!
Hopefully it comes back with no issue. Seems to be outcome for most commenters here. But definitely document it with the Jeep service department when you get a chance in case it breaks later on, you have a record of it happening earlier.

Yes, after it reboots itself after sitting for a while, it will start working again without you doing anything, and it will only happen from time to time. I will recommend that you do let the Jeep service advisors know next time you are in for service so that you have a paper trail in case it does fail.

I’ve had my Wrangler 4xe for 2 weeks and I’m already experiencing this issue. Also, the guidelines don’t always show up. It’s sad that the car is amazing, but the electronic features are trash. I hope this isn’t a precursor to the 4xe in general. It’s an expensive investment to shrug off.
Jon congrats on the new 4xe! From my experience, my Wrangler has been rock-solid (knock on wood) everywhere else and I just hit 15k miles on mine. just shy of 2 years. Just document it with your service department so you have a history if it does fail someday.

I have a brand new Rubicon 2021, 292km driven. I am having a same backup camera problem which is Blacked out display and indicating check your surroundings as shown in this video. The Jeep Company has to come up with the solution as I bought this jeep a week ago..how can an issue come so early... kinda annoying.

That's crazy to hear Michelle. The JL has been out for two plus years and you'd think by now Jeep would've addressed it. Perhaps we haven't had enough people complain to Jeep about it. I hope it is resolved quickly for you.
I have exactly the same issue. My car is brand new Wrangler Sahara 2021 with 10000 km as of now. It is frustrating it happened twice since I got the car I did nothing next day it is working.
2018 Jeep GC limited, 33,000 miles and blank screen on rear camera. Gonna disconnect the battery and hope that works. Such a pain if gotta take it in. Grrrr
I found a fix on TH-cam Push and hold the volume and tune buttons down and hold down foe 10 seconds. Turn the engine off. Restart the engine The backup camera should start working I tried this in the parking lot at Jeep dealer while watching TH-cam fix It worked Drove away without experiencing the Jeep servic dept.
Typically from all the comments I’ve read and my own experience. It will sort itself out with a reset or restart. It still randomly happens to me but with the Tazer JL mini I can force a restart from the menu which is nice.
Just happened to my 2 week old 21 rubicon. 1020 miles on it. I will be taking mine to the dealership. Waiting is not an option because I tow my fishing kayak on a small trailer that I cannot see out of my mirrors because it is so small. It left me high and dry at the boat ramp. If they say they don’t know what is wrong with it I will tell them they better replace the whole thing then. I did not pay 55k for something that has issues I just have to deal with right out of the gate. Also my lines have disappeared once or twice before.
You are doing the right thing. Get it documented and definitely demand a replacement or fix. For most, it tends to go away, but I bet as soon as warranty expires it will fail.

@@maquagliato634 Mine worked fine since. The only problem I have sometimes is the lines will not show up. With the Tazer i'm able to hard-reset the uConnect unit so when that happens I just do a hard-reset and fixes it right up. Good luck! I hope they fix it.
this morning I went to drive and tried to connect my cell phone to the media because I use the GPS NO CARPLAY, and it wasn’t working!I went to work without working, when I started the car to go home, it was working but then the reverse camera was not working, this is so bad, you buy a new car and it happens! Miguel. There are two screen options for most Wranglers, maybe all. a uConnect 4 with a 7" display is standard, and you can upgrade to a Uconnect 4 with an 8.4" display which is what I have in mine. You can upgrade them in your Jeep after the fact also. They also sell a ton of different options on eBay.com, Alibaba.com, etc.

@@aham9160 man that sucks. I haven’t taken mine in yet since it is perfectly fine 90% of the time. I haven’t had the black screen again - but the guidelines don’t show up 1 outta 10 times. It may be minor overall, but frustrating to deal with a brand new vehicle - especially when it seems to be a pretty consistent problem for well over two years based on this video... I’m surprised they haven’t made adjustments to the hardware/software causing the issue.
The unit just needs to be rebooted basically and it will start working again. You can do this by waiting over night when it goes into sleep mode, or my removing the power to the battery to force a reset. Or take it to the Jeep dealer so they can document it and reboot the unit with their code scan tool.

That could be a potential cause, but I would recommend that you take it in for service to be sure. This also creates a paper trail in case things get worse in the future.
DeeperImage Automotive yes, but because the radio will not shut off also besides the camera not working I will let the dealer look at it. I also filed a safety claim at NHTSA.gov if enough owners file the same claim concerning the Jeep (fiat) back up camera problem they can issue a recall to get to the bottom of the problem. If my GC was out of warranty I would try the reset. Like I said because it’s a double problem involving the camera and radio it my be s deeper problem.

Agreed it’s shocking to me it hasn’t been fixed. My JL is one of the first 2018s so I expected it with a first year car, but were 3 years into the platform.
pinedac2001 there’s an update for the Uconnect system. The dealer did it shortly after this video and it hasn’t done it since. The only issue since has been the lines not showing up on screen but restarting the car usually fixes it.

Mine started today. Now shifting in reverse won't even activate the camera and the jeep stopped receiving sirusxm signal. So back to the dealership again with under 500 miles.

I can relate because the first 1,500 miles it went to dealer several times for the steering stabilizer coming off, camera, and uconnect update. The good news for now is that since I've put another 5,000 miles on it and it has been everything a Jeep should be fun wise. Best of luck!
Thanks! I'm taking it in Saturday morning at 8am so hopefully it's a simple fix. I have to remind my self that brand new doesn't mean problem free. So it's all part of the new car process. Once it's fixed I would like to not have to drive back to Siouxfalls for a while.
@@AntonRodriges I've traveled to Saint-Petersburg the last 10 years and I can't think of many Jeeps I have seen, so you will have a very unique car there for sure. I saw Grand Cherokees a lot, but not many Wranglers.

It really is, Thomas! This has been happening for 3 years and they haven't addressed it. That's why it is important that everyone documents this with service.
Add another one to the books. Crazy to read about it. As I've told many others, make sure it is documented with your dealer even if it starts working again. This way they, as well as you, have it on record to having issues early on. Plus it also gets rolled up to Jeep.
Very common on the JLs. You can reset it by unplugging the battery or doing a hard reset on the Uconnect by pressing the up and down temp buttons at the same time. A menu pops up giving you the option to hard reset, or go into the menu, but you lose all your settings.
Sorry to hear that, Peter. Hopefully a hard reset or the dealer fix the problem. Definitely get it noted at the dealer even if the problem goes away, that way you have a history of the complaint if you encounter issues down the line.

I can't complain about the 2.0. Has done everything we've asked of it and close to 40,000 miles since new, tons of off-road and long trips, has been a true champ.

Yeah you would think by now they would’ve fixed this issue as it’s been happening to some JL owners since 2018.

Yeah that seems to be the most common solution, basically the unit is resetting or rebooting itself after sitting overnight.
Brand new 2021 Jeep Sahara with 1500 miles just had this happen today. Hoping it fixes itself haven’t tried to trouble shoot yet.

My month old 2021 Rubicon today started having the same problem (with just 530 miles on it) with a black screen for the back up camera.

Kim Hock They just do a hard reset for the most part and that usually fixes it. If something needs replacing they should under warranty.

My 2021 Sahara unlimited is doing this now. The video screen is really hot. I wonder if it works after it cools down?
That could be a potential cause, but I would recommend that you take it in for service to be sure. This also creates a paper trail in case things get worse in the future.
Just got my 2021 unlimted sahara the other day, it has 64km on it, now i cant see guidlines anymore when i am doing reverse. 🤦♂️
Just needs a reset and should start working again. Usually overnight. But take it to the dealer either way so they can document it. Thanks.
My 2018 GC Overland has 17K on it. I started up the engine and the radio came on. I cannot shut the radio off and the back up camera stopped working .
That's odd. May need to unplug the battery to have do a full hard reset.
DeeperImage Automotive yes, but because the radio will not shut off also besides the camera not working I will let the dealer look at it. I also filed a safety claim at NHTSA.gov if enough owners file the same claim concerning the Jeep (fiat) back up camera problem they can issue a recall to get to the bottom of the problem. If my GC was out of warranty I would try the reset. Like I said because it’s a double problem involving the camera and radio it my be s deeper problem.

I’m just so surprised that so many people have this issue. Mine has 2703 miles on it, and it’s the third time I had this problem. If anyone knew how to fix it permanently, please comment!
Agreed it’s shocking to me it hasn’t been fixed. My JL is one of the first 2018s so I expected it with a first year car, but were 3 years into the platform.

pinedac2001 there’s an update for the Uconnect system. The dealer did it shortly after this video and it hasn’t done it since. The only issue since has been the lines not showing up on screen but restarting the car usually fixes it.
@@DeeperImageAutomotive mine started today. Now the camera won't turn in at all in reverse and I'm my jeep won't receive sirus xm either. Not sure why or what the issue is. But back to the dealership again. For the second time in less than 500 miles
Mine started today. Now shifting in reverse won't even activate the camera and the jeep stopped receiving sirusxm signal. So back to the dealership again with under 500 miles.
@@pinedac2001 Sorry to hear :(. It is very frustrating indeed. I can relate because the first 1,500 miles it went to dealer several times for the steering stabilizer coming off, camera, and uconnect update. The good news for now is that since I've put another 5,000 miles on it and it has been everything a Jeep should be fun wise. Best of luck!
Thanks! I'm taking it in Saturday morning at 8am so hopefully it's a simple fix. I have to remind my self that brand new doesn't mean problem free. So it's all part of the new car process. Once it's fixed I would like to not have to drive back to Siouxfalls for a while.

@@AntonRodriges I've traveled to Saint-Petersburg the last 10 years and I can't think of many Jeeps I have seen, so you will have a very unique car there for sure. I saw Grand Cherokees a lot, but not many Wranglers.

So crazy Jeep hasn’t fixed it. Just from my little video seems like a lot of people had and are still having this issue.

It really is, Thomas! This has been happening for 3 years and they haven't addressed it. That's why it is important that everyone documents this with service.

It’s happened about 5 times for me personally. After that, sometimes the lines disappear and I have to hard reboot the radio.

Add another one to the books. Crazy to read about it. As I've told many others, make sure it is documented with your dealer even if it starts working again. This way they, as well as you, have it on record to having issues early on. Plus it also gets rolled up to Jeep.

Very common on the JLs. You can reset it by unplugging the battery or doing a hard reset on the Uconnect by pressing the up and down temp buttons at the same time. A menu pops up giving you the option to hard reset, or go into the menu, but you lose all your settings.

Sorry to hear that, Peter. Hopefully a hard reset or the dealer fix the problem. Definitely get it noted at the dealer even if the problem goes away, that way you have a history of the complaint if you encounter issues down the line.

Honestly I don’t recall but I don’t think so. I had just bought it and should’ve been clean from the delivery wash. But it’s possible.

@@DeeperImageAutomotive so funny story. I pulled the 20 amp fuse to reset the radio and they came back for about an hour then once the radio rebooted all the way they disappeared again

2.0 beats the 6 cylinder in every situation..
I can't complain about the 2.0. Has done everything we've asked of it and close to 40,000 miles since new, tons of off-road and long trips, has been a true champ.
