I drove the world's fastest electric race car

- I’ve been lucky enough to drive both Formula 1 and Formula E cars. I’ve driven F1 cars all the way from the early 80s, all the way up to the mid-2010s. And a few weeks ago, I drove a Formula E car for the first time.
But, how are they different? And which one would be the most challenging to race? Well, my answer might surprise you.
#Ad #FormulaE #ABBFormulaE - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
I just want one chance to prove how unqualified I am to drive a Formula car.
😁
100th like
Until I try it I will remain convinced it's not that hard and people just suck at driving and have no core/neck strength 😂
Nah bro about to unlock a hidden skill
Bet I'm more unqualified than you
Formula E circuits are insane.
Even in mobile games like Real Racing 3, they're narrow and full of insanely tight corners.
@@abdul-kabiralegbe5660 I gave up on the Formula E races on Real Racing 3 shortly after they added it. The tracks are so tight and twisty that overtaking is impossible.
@@abdul-kabiralegbe5660 Which is weird, because Real Racing 3 typically makes tracks wider than they are in real life. Looking at you, comically wide Bathurst.
Insanely bad, gen 1 trscks were better... well gen 1 FE was better, car switch was quite radical
Formula e is hilarious 😂
"Breaking Barriers" is an odd catchphrase to put on a racecar haha
Latifi's motto.
😂
There's no engine noise
The car: REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
**jet noises intensifies**
That's from the gears in the drivetrain, they're straight cut for better strength which makes them loud
@@DJ_Level_3 so one of the biggest difference about electric cars is they don't have gears or transmissions.
@@mrwisher1250 There is no multi-speed transmission on modern Formula E cars, but the power gets from the motor to the wheels through a set of fixed reduction gears and the rear differential. Those reduction gears are straight-cut, which leads to the sound.
@@DJ_Level_3 Damn, I can't believe I never realised it was the gears and not the motor 😅 I always compared it to a supercharger whine too 🤦♂
Formula E go:"weeeeeeeee"
It must have been a really fun experience. Have you done a video about how you got into racing and what you have done in the motorsport world?

These RC cars are getting out of hand
RC means remote controlled
@@weberluc2685 the remote is the steering wheel, its an rc car that u sit in.
funnily enough, most competition rc cars are engine driven lol
Quiet enough to hear your heart in your throat haha The instinct to shift gears must be a bit weird to ignore at first!?
Driver61, I loved this video so much, I had to hit the like button!
How many times per lap did your nerves ring the alarmbell?
🤣
Good that this has been demonstrated, the amount of skill going into piloting these cars. Nice one.
"Almost zero run off" and "I absolutely loved it" can only be true if it isn't your racecar 😂
Even in mobile games like Real Racing 3, the tracks are full of insanely tight corners and so narrow there's very little room to overtake. Tightly packed grid. Your best bet to win is to have a near perfect start otherwise you might finish last but still within 10 seconds of the winner.
Lol in RR3 i bash my way through b/c the tracks are so narrow. I hate formula e and their tracks, boring to me. But love all the other cars and tracks on that game.
@@Dingle-Berriesnobody cares dingle berries
@@jamesowens1612 you did - so you replied
ughh, PLEASE give us a full video on this!!
Man i would love to have formula e in iRacing. Small nimble single seaters. You can only drive so much skippy
that felt good
I really like watching Formula E as it reminds me of the sounds of racing R/C vehicles 35 years ago!
Rc racing is still a thing and it sounds more like this now!
@@finleymakee4850 I mean it has been between 25 to 35 years ago when I used to race R/C vehicles. The R/C scene really disappeared in my area of Canada since that era.
@@shawndixon4536 That’s really sad dude, because rc racing is more affordable than ever, and basically anybody at the tracks will help you out if your car is being funky
@@finleymakee4850 Trust me, I remember. But the R/C hobby faded really fast here. Hobby shops and race organizers had trouble finding places to create tracks because of the mess left behind. Most small hobby shops closed, and the bigger ones switched their products away from R/C. There was an attempt to bring back R/C racing in my city about 10 years ago, but it really just felt like a bunch of friends that wanted to make a track to race against each other. When I went and tried a nitro truck I bought because of this track, I destroyed the rear shock tower the first time out because they had this almost 3 foot high ramp, with the landing ramp about 5 feet apart. And not a table top, literally nothing between the 2 ramps. If I had any of my electric R/Cs, even my most powerful race truck would never had made it. The location that track was at is now a BMX track.
McMurtry Speirling joined the chat
Race car that actually races against other cars of the same category. Not a track car made just for lap times
race car not track car
@@lll.u it’s not allowed on a lot of tracks because of the fan system.

Even in simulator is hard to Drive these cars 😮
Scott passion for driving is something else!
Doesn't the absence of engine braking make cornering much harder?
Pretty sure the motors have regenerative braking. Which can be very powerful.
@@JLfpv not the same as changing gears to get grip for cornering.
@azamat19 no even better cuz the motor can give exactly the brake force programmed doesn't depend on rpmof engine. Doesn't have to take that split second to shift and isnt losing power in the transmission. And it also delivers more torque through whole rpm instead of more in a power band of the ice engine... once batteries get lighter ice has no chance against electric. They are just extremely more effective at delivering power.
@@JLfpv not to sure mate. The Porsche mission r is awful in corners with that technique, no comparison to a Porsche cup car which has half the horsepower and yet is faster in lap times
@azamat19 ice engine racing has had 100 yrs of fine tuning. Ev not so much. I'm saying mechanically and physically ice engines are just way less efficient for power. Too much energy losses as heat and mechanical operation of transmission. Ev needs better battery tech and more $ invested to improve more but I think is going to easily surpass ice racercars in the near future.
I still hate on it due to the bad noise they make, but other than that Formula E is very well made technically and entertainment wise.
What’s the distance between the wheels on these cars? Just from looking that must cause weird behaviour
How do these cars compare with electric supercars?
I would be interested in your toughs about the ICE "simulator" in the new Ioniq 5N. Reviewers said it helps them a lot on the track to find the right speed at corners.
I was wondering what is a racing driver's perspective on this? Is it worth giving up some of the torque to get multi-sensory feedback about the current speed?
id imagine that would help a lot but a skilled enough driver (not me) probably wouldnt need that and would rather have the torque
Its probably something you can get used to not having, which would make that even more of a gimmick than it already is
Interestingly the race car version (they're gonna run a one-make series with it) doesn't have the gear shifts.
trackmania when
It's electric boogie woogie woogie 😂 he's gonna British tea bag the second place driver with that car
I love Formula E, but yeah it's just the sound that needs to be worked out. It's fine to listen to in short sections, but a whole race can be rough
Once i get in the car, i wouldnt be satisfied by the ride until they give me a duper license for racing on a formula 1 race
so cool
The 919 evo
But that’s not the worlds fastest electric race car…
It is over a hotlap
@@Maxxwal I somehow doubt this thing is quicker than that vw idr. Not sure you can call it a race car but that daft mcmurty thing they showcased at goodwood last year demolishes a formula e car.
Maybe by race car he meant the car is made to and has been racing with multiple other cars.
@@Amin-dd9mk I also assumed that he meant, "is used in actual racing series".
@@TastiLead just imagine a full grid of Speirlings, that would be insane I would definitely watch that!
why was the steering so slow to react it looked like you put lots of input but barley got any movement out the tiers.
Why are there pedal shifters? Do these have gearbox?
“There is no engine noise” … because it has [electric] motor noise instead
Does it gat as hot as a normal f1 car in the cabin?
I want to know how the fastest FE car would fare against Mcmurty Speirling
they also weigh a LOT...
Heavier than an f1 car but for an electric car they’re very light
Really Low center of mass though
@@williamn3070 yes, but lot of inertia...
Aah, gotta love some saudi arabia sportswashing
Greenwashing all that oil while they're at it(honestly electric cars are currently way worse for the environment tho).
@@TastiLead That's not true. If you measure the combined carbon emissions produced by a typical EV versus a tipical ICE car over their tipical lifetimes, the EV outperforms the regular car by orders of magnitude.
This is mainly because the process of burning coal for generating electricity in large quantities (like, for an entire city) and then charging batteries in EVs with that electricity makes the EVs have a relative mpg that's double or triple that of regular cars even in the worst polluting energy distribution networks.
This also makes it such that, over the car's lifespan, you will save more money with the EV than with regular car, since it has double the relative mpg in the worst conditions, and substantially more than that with green distribution networks.
@@josepedrogaleanogomez4870 okay, now add in the difference in manufacturing it takes especially to get all the stuff for that battery. Like the amount of Earth that needs to be moved to make one EV battery. And how we currently basically have no means to recycle them. It's a trap dreamed up to drum up useless sales and sell tires among other things none of them good.
@@TastiLeadif you clearly haven't bothered to read up anything about a topic, why bother spouting your nonsense on the internet? Nobody with any knowledge on the subject supports a single bit of the misinformation you spouted there.
@@TastiLeadLifecycle assessments of EVs still puts them above and beyond any ICE vehicle in terms of sustainability, even if you assume the worst possible sources of energy and materials for the production and running of the vehicle. According to a 2021 peer reviewed study by the ICCT, at worst, EVs result in 19% less emissions over their life (including manufacturing, use and disposal) than a comparable ICE vehicle. On average, the emissions are over 60% lower in Europe and the US, and about 40% lower in China.
too much torque on RAIN TYRES ! never say its easy
Going fast never felt so boring.
Sounds so good being able to hear various elements of the car working.
Pretty sure that the speirling mcmurtry is faster
This car sounds depresso
Electric race cars aren’t that bad…
Looks pretty easy to me
Then give it a try, I’m sure they have a special pass for it.
Half the screen has text all over it, why...? Can barely see anything.
Of course the Formula E cars are really fast and the tracks are pretty small but isn't the Volkswagen ID.R the fastest electric race car?
why are there paddles on the wheel if the car is electric? What is the point of having it on the car?
Probably just different modes. They have some sort of boost mode. Older ones have a gearbox, newest generation doesn't need it.
Must be nice.
Wouldnt the volkswagon ID be faster?
Well for whatever reason fe champion tried to race in F1 and failed
Close
And they sound amazing too 😐
The car may be fun to drive, but the races are boring.
rc car racing is literally more entertaining than Formula E lol
Electric it is good only oven
Surprised you didnt mention its other massive difference from other formula cars: it runs reasonably normal road tires instead of slicks (and ultra soft rain tires)
These things dont have a lot of downforce do they?
They don't go fast enough to generate massive downforce
@spybreak23 how fast do you think you need go for downforce? Downforce is limited by wing size regulations
Downforce starts past 200mph
More downforce = more drag unfortunately. These cars need to be efficient
That’s why he said it was “more fun” because the car was all over the place.
Personally, no sound = no point
EVs do have crazy torque though I’ll admit that
How much are they paying you brother?
This doesn't look like fun to you? I would love to have a go!
