I love this road! We drove it in 1992 on a family vacation. We were in a jeep Cherokee and the whole time I was wishing I was in our Vette. The road reminded me of a Colorado 4 wheel drive trail that was 2 lanes and paved. One of the most enjoyable roads I have ever driven! 😊
"Therapy Road" That says it all. The CJH and Beartooth are favorites and absolutely fit that description. Thanks for reminding me that it's time, once again, to get out there.....somewhere....where the roads provide that feeling!
I did one of these but in AZ, through several of the national parks in my full size sedan. Now with an ND2 RF, I’m getting ready to go back and maybe beyond. This hypes me up so much!
Added to bucket list! CO 141 from Grand Junction to Naturita isn't too far from you all. Combined with 65 from Delta through Mesa to Grand Junction, it's a great loop.
We've done 141 and really enjoy it. In fact, we did a road trip video on that road with our cheap sports cars (Z4 and SLK). We also included it on our latest Everyday Driver adventure with a group of fans!
@@EverydayDriver Have you all heard of the Beartooth Highway? ;) I'll find that video, thanks! Those trips are on my radar, one more reason to keep an eye on them.
The Rocky Mountain range is my birth place and where I live. Growing up taking my 1991 Mustang 5.0 up little cottonwood and big cottonwood canyon in northern Utah and currently live in southern Utah, cedar city driving my 2017 Mustang GT performance. These Rocky Mountains are where the greatest joys in life start and they never end as a driver. I’m heading to Cody WY this next late spring after watching this. Burns like a passion. Thanks for sharing guys!!
I travelled this road back in 1984 on a family vacation. I was 12 at the time riding in our 1979 AMC Eagle. I remember it starting to sputter at the top, but we made it over and down into Montana. It was quite a memory! Watching this video makes me want to go back in my 1991 300ZX TT and do it again someday. Thanks for the video guys!
Charles Kuralt, who knew about every road in the country, said Beartooth Highway was his favorite. I drove the Beartooth Highway a couple years ago in a new(3k mile) rental F-150 with the 2.7 ecoboost. Despite the fact that the Ford started hemorrhaging oil on the drive from Salt Lake to Yellowstone(5 quarts in 4 days), that road really brought out how light the front end of F-150 was with that powertrain. When I dropped it off in Bozeman, the rental company swapped it out for a Ram which I drove up to Glacier NP on the Going to the Sun Road. It felt like a Mack Truck compared to the Ford, but it didn't loose/use a drop of oil.
Paul is absolutely right when he says "It's different going the other way " My son and I do that with our favorite roads near San Diego CA. in sports cars and on motorcycles !! Thanks for the wonderful scenery guys !! 😊
Thanks. I’ll add this to my destination list for when my Z06 comes in. I live in Idaho so it’s perfect for a 3-4 day trip. I’ll ad my dog to your list to bring along. And even if I’ve never done a car and coffee run, my answer to your question is still YES!
When someone asks me why i enjoy driving for fun, i want to show them this video. You've captured the joy of the experience so well. Great video, you nailed this one and your joy is infectious.
The last time I drove Chief Joseph I was in my Acura CL Type S chasing a C5 Corvette. Good times. I’ve spent many days on the Beartooth highway skiing on Memorial Day weekend. When the Montana side was destroyed by several land slides, we approached from the Wyoming side… I took a nap in the middle of the highway because the blacktop was warm. I love that area and have so many good memories.
I bought my dream car - an O5’ Lotus Elise in Aubergine Purple. It brings me so much joy to drive it. I love to give my kids rides in it and go find new roads. We call it, getting lost to find ourselves. Recently, my soon-to-be 16 year old daughter, who has her drivers permit, asked me if I would teach her to drive a manual in her favorite car - the Elise. What a beautiful moment. With some careful instruction, I’m proud to say that we did it with no harm to the clutch. I don’t know many folks who get to say that they learned to drive stick in a Lotus Elise 😂 🤙🏻. She was so proud - and I am so proud. Now, she and I can go discover new roads together. Enjoy the drive.
Agreed! I drove this same two roads in a Toyota Sienna and it was just as much fun. Would love to take my Miata there but it's a bit far from Maryland!
Watched this video last week, went on a pilgrimage this week. Took back roads all the way. Twisties for two days, and final day was through Teton NP, Yellowstone NP, and then over Beartooth Pass... several times. Up and down the Montana side over and over. The most stunning scenery I've seen. I was shocked by how beautiful Yellowstone was, and this was better. Amazing. Thank you.
you guys ever get a chance to go up to Northern California to the Gold Rush area, highway 49 Grass Valley is beautiful. you want to go north and then west to Quincy and then around South to the feather River canyon. it is possibly the most beautiful drive in California. few people know about it. from Grass Valley all the way down Oroville about 4 hours of non-stop scenery and twisties
There used to be a TV show here in New Zealand where the host, Bill Hohepa, would go on 4x4 treks. I remember being suitably impressed when they took pies wrapped in tinfoil and sat them in the engine bay while they drove so that they'd have a hot lunch. Was a laugh to see you guys cooking your sandwiches in the rear of the Lotus!
@@EverydayDriver "Lotus heated luggage". I think it is patented :-D Works well on the Alpine A110 too. So well that it heated a bottle of wine sufficiently enough to drive the (plastic = slippery) "cork" out of the bottle. Now my rear trunk smells funny....
My wife and I stopped in Cody while circling the country by RV. We went mountain biking at Beck Lake, with views of the Rockies on one side, views of Bighorn on the other, and beautiful high desert trails stretched way out before us.
Living in Colorado, I most definitely do make a day of just going for a drive. Quite often. And since I'm in northern Colorado, I might just have to make a weekend of going to check out this road. I will visit it one day though; the main goal of the wagon I'm building is to drive to every state and find good roads all around the country to enjoy, while also having something to sleep in when I find myself in the middle of nowhere. Your road trip videos have been a great resource for note-taking on places to visit.
The second day of owning my GR86 I spent the whole day driving B roads in South Australia and it was the greatest introduction to that car that I could have asked for. The roads you have driven your sports cars on are perfect for any drivers car and the smile on your faces says it all. Enjoy those beautiful cars as I'm enjoying my 86
I’ve always heard Beartooth Pass is an epic road. Unfortunately my one time in the area, I took a different route in to Yellowstone. Back East, I always enjoy the Cherohala Skyway, hitting over the 5k feet between NC & TN with similar sweeping curves for 40 miles. It’s often looped with the Tail of the Dragon for different types of roads.
The Beartooth Highway is my favorite road yet. Also, don't forget the 3 amazing drives through the Bighorn Mountains as well. Worth the trip to find these.
If you're asking "do people really spend all day to go for a drive" UH HECK YEAH. NC roads are epic, do it all the time. On this side of the US, it's the Cherohala Skyway for me. Nice vid guys!
Another great driving experience nicely captured. I drove across South Dakota and Montana in my BRZ, had a great time and plan to go back to exploring. More awesome a varied roads. Route 12 in Utah is still in a league of its own though.
🥰 Thanks so much for coming back here and sharing with us! Therapy road without question! Life goals right here! I hope to come down from Canada and cruise here some day. ❤
There are SO MANY great roads in the US; I now have another road trip destination!! Thanks for the inspiration! One question: how tight were the speed limits enforced? My experience at Tail of the Dragon was fairly dampened by a strong presence of law enforcement on the 35 mph speed limits. Now, in the Ozarks of northern Arkansas/southern Missouri? 👍👍👍
This is the type of driving I can't get enough of. I recently drove the Tail of the Dragon for the first time, and it was breathtaking. I hope I can't take more trips like this in the future.
These roads are on the list for next summer. I have a 2014 C7 Corvette with 89000 miles on the clock. I have 10 more states to drive in and I’ll have driven in all 48 and 5 Canadian provinces. Drove The Cabot Trail in Nova Scotia this past summer. I live in Michigan and will be putting the car in storage for winter in a few weeks.
I know what you mean when you take a road trip just to drive a road. Once I got my 2015 Mustang EB properly modified by Steeda, I first took a day to drive the roads within the North Georgia Mountains. Then I took a weekend to drive the Tail of the Dragon. I made sure I was prepared, including the rules of the road like pulling over to let motorcycles pass. Even the roads getting to and from the Tail were fun and provided beautiful views.
Now you’ve done it - you let the cat out of the bag. Now everyone will want to come drive it! Can’t blame you tho - it’s a special place that never gets old. Thanks for this!
You’re speaking my language, fellas. There’s a couple of stretches between Banff National Park and the Thompson-Nicola region of BC that share the spirit. Wonderful segment. Bravo!
I can see Todd’s synapse firing from all the stimulus and the fact he has his favourite car on this favourite road, and what a road. 100 miles of twists and turns and changes of landscape. Paul’s Cayman must be the intersection of these two cars?
My wife and I always love watching your content, especially the road trips, whether you're in old sports cars or newer ones. Your production values are through the roof!!! Those drone shots are amazing!!! Thanks as always for your enthusiasm, love of driving and taking us along......means alot.
Drove through Yosemite and Sequoia parks this summer in a rented MX-5 ND. I don’t live near curvy roads normally and the driving experience was a real highlight for me
Great episode. I am the odd duck out as I see this road and all I think it "which motorcycle am I going to take on it?" Funny for me as, the Northern (US) Rockies are my 2024 long motorcycle tour including Beartooth...would have been 2023 except the late snowfall in the region had me pivot to doing the Northeast instead.
Two things: First, this reminds me of the time when I finally got off the highway in Knoxville and drove The Tail of the Dragon in my Saturn SC2 5-speed. It was a scrappy little car, but I was so worth it! Second: I may not have my little sports car anymore, but I do get enjoyment finding muddy, rutted local roads in the Ozark region and attacking them with aplomb with my 4x4. Were those squeals from the back seat because of fear, surprise, fun? Dunno. Don't care. As long as there's no vomit, I ain't stopping!
Another fantastic production with great content, beautiful cinematography, and enthusiasm for where you are at that moment. Todd and Paul's excitement when discovering an amazing stretch of road is palpable. Well Done!
Seriously guys I have been waiting over a decade for a serious video about this road. Thank you thank you thank you. I may be from Ohio but someday I plan to come back to this road in my fun car and not the family hauler!
Couldn't agree more - get a 2 seater convertible and get out !! I own a Mercedes SLK300 (I know you guys didn't like it !!) but driving these twisty highways cannot be bettered - I went through Cody in May 2023 on my way to Hwy 50 across Nevada, and driving the State highways is so much more enjoyable than the "straight" Interstates.
Yeah thats an awesome road, I was traveling through for work 12 years ago with a fully loaded service truck. Ended up overheating the brakes and almost ran out of gas pushing that 6.0 hard... Thanks for the video!
I've done all those roads on my motorcycle. You guys get it. Driving a sports car with the top down is close to riding a motorcycle. I also own an ND2 Miata RF Club so I know the comparison. 😊
8:45 viewer from Toronto, Canada here. It would take over a days drive to get there. I know of at least one other friend from here that would make this drive. Looks like an epic time. Sheer joy on your faces

I did one of these but in AZ, through several of the national parks in my full size sedan. Now with an ND2 RF, I’m getting ready to go back and maybe beyond. This hypes me up so much!
took my nd2 rf to bearooth hwy from canada before the pandemic, you gotta make the trek to it, very worthwhile
I live in Idaho and this road just became a bucket list item for sure. Only about 4 hours to Cody, and yet I had no idea. Wow.
You guys do have the knack to make me NEED to drive those cars and those roads. That must have been quite an experience!
We’re glad to hear this had the intended effect! Thanks for watching!
Highland Valley road in North County SD is a good example. I like it better Eastbound on a bike, Westbound in a car.
@@MikeS_982 that's one of the roads I'm talking about Mike...see you out there 👍
Incredible views especially from the drone coverage. Would love to drive here in my 99 C5 FRC !
Thanks. I’ll add this to my destination list for when my Z06 comes in. I live in Idaho so it’s perfect for a 3-4 day trip. I’ll ad my dog to your list to bring along. And even if I’ve never done a car and coffee run, my answer to your question is still YES!
I grinned all the way thru this video. Your love for what you do is contagious.
When someone asks me why i enjoy driving for fun, i want to show them this video. You've captured the joy of the experience so well. Great video, you nailed this one and your joy is infectious.
Glad you enjoyed and it properly shared the experience. Thanks for watching!
I appreciate you guys bringing the normalcy that seems to get lost in the TH-cam journalism. Awesome video! I will own a Lotus before I die.
Just love love love these cinematic Everyday Driver road-trip videos! Thanks, and cheers from Charlotte, NC
Glad to have you watching and enjoying. Thank you!
We were surprised it worked as well as it did! Thanks for watching!
That scenery is phenomenal. It’s like you said, “this would be amazing in a camper” and you guys are in THOSE cars. Brilliant.
Cherohala is fantastic, as is Blueridge Parkway. Just awesome roads!
That's an extremely beautiful place! Thanks for taking me there.
If you're asking "do people really spend all day to go for a drive" UH HECK YEAH. NC roads are epic, do it all the time. On this side of the US, it's the Cherohala Skyway for me. Nice vid guys!
Love it!! Thanks for the entertainment, and for a new road to add to my driving pilgrimage.
Another great driving experience nicely captured. I drove across South Dakota and Montana in my BRZ, had a great time and plan to go back to exploring. More awesome a varied roads. Route 12 in Utah is still in a league of its own though.
We take a group on Utah’s Hwy 12 every year, an amazing road. Thanks for watching!
4:46 Best part of the video
Lotus Elise Turbo owner here and my wife has a '23 C8. We should do a parody video of yours!!! Hahaha 😂
This really sums it all up. Nothing like going on a roadtrip on these kind of roads with your friend(s). Great video once again!👌🏻👍🏻
Beautiful, meaningful, poetic. Thank you ED
Glad you saw this!
I love those two roads! I drove them both ways with some friends a couple years ago-each in our own fun cars!
I love my NB1 Miata like Todd loves his Elise, fun at any speed.
Nothing like a Western road trip in a Corvette! This is how I got addicted to corvettes in the first place!
Todd's t-shirt is perfect for this video, of course.
The Beartooth one THEE BEST DRIVE I've ever done, and I've been on TONS of mountain roads.
My wife and I always love watching your content, especially the road trips, whether you're in old sports cars or newer ones. Your production values are through the roof!!! Those drone shots are amazing!!!
Thanks as always for your enthusiasm, love of driving and taking us along......means alot.
Thrilled to have you watching and we’re glad our trips are resonating with you.
One of the best roads I have ever been on, even in a Toyota Sienna, great film fellas!
This is my favorite road for a day trip from my house. So glad to see you all give it the props it deserves.
Well Done!
Everytime I see the elise, it makes me REALLY miss mine RIP 2020
Seriously guys I have been waiting over a decade for a serious video about this road. Thank you thank you thank you. I may be from Ohio but someday I plan to come back to this road in my fun car and not the family hauler!
Glad you feel like we did it right. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing and enjoying your fun vicarriously!
Yall are, by far, The Best TH-cam Car Race Channel ever … for reals!!
Thank you! Thrilled to have you watching!
Enjoyed this one!
Yeah thats an awesome road, I was traveling through for work 12 years ago with a fully loaded service truck. Ended up overheating the brakes and almost ran out of gas pushing that 6.0 hard... Thanks for the video!
Wow, ,that road is amazing!
Just marked it on my map. Only 8 hours from Denver.
Yeah, I'm going to have to plan this for the car club. I was looking around that area already for a trip :-)
I've done all those roads on my motorcycle. You guys get it. Driving a sports car with the top down is close to riding a motorcycle. I also own an ND2 Miata RF Club so I know the comparison. 😊
Excited to drive this road one day. Hopefully.
Great content! I really need to plan a drive up there, it's only about 12 hours from me. Would be well worth the drive to get to a road like that.
I've only towed my trailer up and down that road. It's been high on my list to return with something much more enjoyable to drive.
8:45 viewer from Toronto, Canada here. It would take over a days drive to get there. I know of at least one other friend from here that would make this drive. Looks like an epic time. Sheer joy on your faces
Wow!!! Fantasticest trip! You guys really captured the beauty and joy of the road and scenery. The essence why we live cars. Thank you! Another bucket listed trip!!!
Oh, man. I lived in WY and totally missed this. Need to fly to Denver, rent something fun, and make the drive!
I am jealous of the views and roads near you guys. I would drive that often if I could
Definitely need to make a trip and drive that road. Looks amazing!!!!
That's it. Taking my newly purchased 718CS to the Blue Ridge Mountains in a few weeks. You've convinced me.
Beautiful landscape. Beautiful country we live in
