    Dead on review. My SL is 10-1/2 months old and just surpassed 2,000 miles of trails in the Sierra Nevada Mountains...Love it. Has helped my 73 year old body reach new heights and distances.

    Purchased the Levo SL Comp about two months ago. Have logged approximately 750 miles in the foothills of Colorado outside of Denver. At 69 years young having a bit of "assistance" on those climbs is a great feature. I even passed my two 35+ year old sons on our last visit to Lake Pueblo State Park on a climb using eco mode. Great video and agree with your assessment.

    Arrived late to the party on this SL Review - Sam great video! I could not agree more with your assessment on the SL. It's a fantastic bike! I was able to procure just before the pandemic madness started last April. The bike has held up great and is awesome on my local trails in MD. Admittingly, I really purchased the bike for my trips to the mountains in Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. The assistance for riding up provides exactly what I require to keep up with my faster friends on full power (4x) bikes. While they may have the advantage on the uphill, I get the workout I'm looking for and blow them away on the downhills due to the SL geometry. The only upgrade so far is the rear shock going from the Fox DPS to the Fox DPX2. Tires and brakes are next when I can find them in stock!

    Great review! I've had the SL Expert for 6 months now. Came off a 2012 SW Epic. Compared to the Epic, this is a big boys bike. In my late 60's, X-Racer, fit rider, mostly road. I was considering the Stumpy when the LBS recommended the Levo SL instead. No regrets! Love this bike. You're spot on the rider type for Levo and SL. Recently road a Levo Demo for a couple of days. Rode with my 30 yr old Son one day and solo with fit buddies on another. I kept the Levo on Eco mode on both rides.
    Day one, my Son had my SL in Sport mode and struggled, so you were right. Although he's young and fit, he doesn't have the leg fitness for biking at this time. We switched and he love the Levo.
    Day two with buddies on the Levo on Eco mode the whole time, with an occasion Trail mode here and there. Although the Levo was a blast to ride, I felt like I didn't get much of a workout afterwards. I was happy to get back on the SL. I bought the Levo for my Son with the understanding that's I may be borrowing it occasionally when riding with Levo buddies. Best of both worlds!

    Hi Sam. I decided to buy an SL after watching this video and I can not be more happy. I went to El Escorial and went down Los Vascos and El despegue in 2:30 hours and a total of 900 metres ascent. I weight 93 kg and I consumed 99% of the battery using a mix of mid and full assistance. So basically I got same results than you. Also I do agree that the motor is more noisy than others. Thanks a lot for you review.

    UPDATE: Excellent review that I have now watched multiple times. The SWAT on my 2020 Levo SL Comp only has the multi-tool in the top. Does not have the chainbreaker or link included below. Yours must be a higher end SWAT. Have done 2200 miles on it in my first 12 months. Upgraded to GX drivetrain and Fox 36 Factory fork. Have done lots of testing and tuning front and rear for a 6'-1" and 210 pound rider.

    • @SamsBikes
      @SamsBikes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Bill thanks for the kind words and congrats on 2200 miles that’s impressive! I think specialized should make it stock on swat with a quick link and chain breaker it’s confusing and really important to to get stuck.

      Hahah me either so cool I do now as I ride with 3 different bags so it was always a stress to make sure I brought my chain breaker. Great review of the SL @Sam's Bikes! I am a little surprised of how many people who really dislikes the SRAM Code breaks. I dont think of these as cheap, so is it the quality, the feel or something else that is not up to par? Are they so bad that this is something that really should be considered changed right away before getting the bike on the trails?

    Hey man… loving the channel! Awesome! Hope you’re enjoying the van! I’m in mine just now watching your vids :). Just wondering, have you tried the Orbea Rise? I’m sitting with a full fat (heavily modded :)) 2019 Levo just now… wanting a change, thinking the Rise would be a good move, but stocks too tight to test, and £6ks a lot to buy blind. Keen to hear your thoughts. My Levos 170mm Yari, coil, mullet, enduro beast. (A gen 2 build with gen 3 geo :). My Nomads 180mm travel and 14.5kgs tho… and fooowkin love that. Reckon the lighter emtb makes sense. I’m 100kgs btw - kinda fit, kinda full of lock down biscuits :)

    I am a very fit senior rider. 6'4". I have been thinking about an ebike so I can ride longer. I don't like lifting or moving around heavy bikes. I am mostly a cross country rider but spend a lot of time on technical trails with significant climbing. Would this bike work for me? Also, what size do you recommend and what version gives you the best bang for the buck?

  • @chrisjones6699
    @chrisjones6699 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I couldn’t agree more with you! I rented one of these at a trail centre for the day and wasn’t really impressed! That’s only because everyone in my group was riding full powered ebikes. I had to work very hard to keep with them and it soured my experience. I love going up hill and this really wouldn’t work for me. I’d rather work twice as hard on my a-bike and save thousands 😂 Great video again!

  • @Timo-ug4ul

    Hello mate, not sure if you're still monitoring this old thread, but wanted to ask about do you think rider weight will play a part in the capability of this model. I'm 108Kg and am looking at the Levo vs SL. All of my riding areas say the SL, as its mostly trail and low level for about 3-4 hours max. I also want to ride for cardio gain at 55 yo. My question is, is the SL man enough to cart round my massive weight for 3/4 hours (50km ish)? I do think that the Levo full power would be overkill for what I need. Yes, i could run it in lower power modes, but I will not be DH riding ever. For reference, I ride a 2015 Stumpy. Cheers mate, love the channel!

    • @SamsBikes
      @SamsBikes  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yo Timo thanks for the kind words, if I’m honest at 108kg you might be best with a full powered Levo but honestly your best to go try and test ride a Levo And a Levo SL and you know will know straight away. Send me a private message on Facebook if you want to ask anymore questions

    Just got my levo sl carbon comp. Very happy with it. Your multiple video’s have driven my choice. Question: why my swap tool doesn’t have the chain breaker ? Seems I have a cheap version of it. A disapointing detail I can’t retrieve on Spe web site. Any imput?

    • @SamsBikes
      @SamsBikes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey mate, thanks for the kind words and congrats on the beast! The chain breaker is a strange point you make, different models have a basic swat tool which is hard for me to understand and it’s the clear on their website maybe go to your dealer and see if they can order you one a very handy bit of kit for a ebike.

    I would be curious to know if the drivetrain wear out quicker than a normal mtn bike. Also I just saw Shimano with a 10 speeds e-bike specific! What are your thoughts about that! Cheers mate good job on your channel.

    • @SamsBikes
      @SamsBikes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I broke the chain once and i would suspect its ready to change now but yes it would wear less then a emtb i'm sure.. Finally Shimano did a ebike chain and cassette.

    YT Decoy, Levo, Levo SL and Meta Power. Which bike gets your full attention next?! Also, any idea when they'll be more Schwalbe tyres (magic mary and big betty) more widely available? Only limited sizes/structure currently available in the UK at least

    • @SamsBikes
      @SamsBikes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      decoy is so 2019 haha they need to update, meta is great value for a big dh bike, SL is such a fun bike but limited for riding with full powered ebikes unless your fit! So what’s left? The Levo haha it’s a beast of a bike I really love it. I’m a lucky guy! Leave it with me I’m trying to work out a way to sell Schwalbe tires because I know it’s really hard to find them.

    Will you be reviewing the Orbea Rise? I have an M10 on order and wonder how it compares to the Rise. I have a trek rail 9.7 with AXS and I wanted to add a light weight ebike for a different feel and different trails.

    Sam,
    I'm a long time Schwab tire user and my go to front tire has been the Hans Damf 2.3 for my riding area in ca. It's rock hard with light dirt on top. The knob shape and profile are super quick on turn ins. Curious if you tried it up front before I used to use then on front and rear but lose a bit of speed have on both ends. Any way just curious if you have tried them.
    Thanks Wally Gator

    @Sam’s Bikes or anyone able to comment, I’m in the market and wondered if you could comment on the Comp (AL) vs. the next level up Comp Carbon. Besides the obvious weight difference, how would each bike feel/ride?

    • @SamsBikes
      @SamsBikes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey mate thanks for the comment, I normally recommend AL because I personally don’t see much of a difference but with the SL you are paying a premium for a LIGHT ebike so I personally would go for the Carbon. I’m not sure the weight penalty but as far as they ride very similar I can’t tell the difference between carbon and Al

    • @thomassobelman8350
      @thomassobelman8350 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have both. There's no penalty for the aluminum in terms of feel. The aluminum bike is a little heavier but you don't really feel the difference while your riding. The spec on the SL is where you feel the biggest difference. Once you swap the Fox 34 for 36s and change the brakes the bike is totally different. If price is absolutely critical to you, the spec on the comp bikes is the same, the aluminum bike is worth considering. There are other important factors to consider as well such as your skill level and the type of riding you plan on doing.

    • @gbarton800
      @gbarton800 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@thomassobelman8350 great, great feedback! The riding I plan to do is technical trail and some downhill. I have a ‘19 Trek PowerFly FS7 and an ‘18 Trek Fuel Ex 9.8 SL (both ends of spectrum in terms of weight and riding feel). What I’m looking for is more feel and agility of the 9.8 SL but with some assistance to keep up with my 14YO son and other more fit riders. The PF 7 power is a riot to ride on my own but overkill for most situations with non-eMTB riders which is what’s got me looking at the Levo SLs. Thanks so much for your input/help!

    Hi Sam, what are your thoughts on longevity of the engine/battery? I can get one with 1000km on it, battery 100%. How much more do you recon it will last?

    • @SamsBikes
      @SamsBikes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey mate I wouldn't worry about 1000km these bike are very reliable! if the Battery is 100% then its totally fine. I think as you charger over 1000 times it will loose a small percentage of range but you would need to check with your local dealer.

      Thanks for the kind words James, I run magic marry 2.6 soft rubber and super trail casing on the front and big Betty in soft and super casing on the back in 2.4. If your going to be riding it really hard I would go a gravity casing on the back and if it’s more trail riding put a 2.4 magic marry on the front over a 2.6. I hope that helps mate
