You should include a link to this video with the instructions with every DS1 sold. Best video I have seen. I've had 2 of my balance points correct, but not the last two as shown. Great video and thanks for posting it. I only wish I would have seen it earlier.
Thank you so much for this video!! I finally got my DS1 to work properly. Important note to all A6000 or A6300 users, you must ask Ikan to provide you with the additional counter weight that they can provide in order to properly balance it. If not, you will be missing 1 of the steps for balance and therefore won't be working at optimal performance.
+JStudioPro & T.Dot Studios I'm having the same issue with the DS-1 and my Sony a6300. Maybe this particular camera is too small for the DS-1... (?) Maybe the MS-1 is better for the a6300... I don't know. It's very frustrating.
+JStudioPro & T.Dot Studios Had the same problem with an old steadicam. Any camera which is too light should go on a height plate. Likewise, if the camera is too heavy and cannot go any lower, then a weight must be added to the bottom of the unit.
+onenarrowdoor actually all i needed to do was add height base plate was giving that so i made camera taller by adding hot shoe on top gave it enough height to balance tilt
+John Packard Hi. Yes, it's available for sale and it was in stock not too long ago, but because of the high demand and popularity the unit is out of stock at the moment. More units are on the way.
+John Packard Purchased mine from Amazon six weeks ago - arrived within a week. However, most other people were experiencing wait times of a month or more. Actually purchased it before I purchased my camera (a7s2) due to assuming that I would have to wait a long time for the DS1.
+onenarrowdoor Glad you "got yours". I think a lot of people are just now finding out about them as they see all the videos on TH-cam. So now they can't make them fast enough. I found out about them by watching a TH-cam video from Trey Ratcliff where he used an Osmo. I thought the Osmo was great but when researching it on TH-cam, I ran into the Beholders and then I was really excited. Let us know how yours works once you get your a7s2. Those are sure popular cameras. I'm using a couple of GH3s.
John Packard My a7s2 is here already - came the other day - but I won't be using the DS1 until I get the 16-35 F4. I decided to start with the 55 F1.8 for a few months whilst I find my way around the camera and develop some muscle memory and some base grading skills. A word of warning about the batteries - they are 5mm longer than the spares (Samsung) I ordered off Amazon, despite being a 'standard' 3.7V 2600mah Li-ion battery. Having said that, the DS1 came with a set of three spares (didn't know it would) and so 4-6hrs is plenty enough juice time for any gimbal. You can buy a six bay charging dock that works a treat (Efest LUC Blu6 OLED Intelligent Charger) - no need to charge through the DS1 and have it out of action.
Hey I just got the Beholder DS1 and also have a Canon 70D. I might not have done enough research into lenses and bought a Canon EF-S 17-55mm f2.8. Together they weigh about 1400g. I am struggling to learn how to balance it and it seems the lens makes it way too front-heavy. Is this lens compatible and do you have tips on balancing it? If not, do you have any recommendations of an affordable lens that is compatible with the DS1, offers something different to my 17-55, and is great for doco-style run and gun filming? Thanks.
It's definitely got a learning curve so I'm getting better at balancing but it's not perfect. I followed a tutorial for a similar heavy and sized lens the 24-105mm 4.0L and made some progress. An alternative lens might still be a good idea though.
Hi Patrick. To see a list of compatible cameras and lenses, please check out the "Charts & Features" Tab on the DS1 page here: bit.ly/2aoeAuD Some of the combinations have videos so that you can see how to balance specific combos. Your current combo isn't on the list, but you can still see what lenses will work with your camera and go from there. The 24-105 4.0L will work but the Pitch movement will be limited. It's compatible, but not 100%. I think the chart in the link above will be of great assistance to you.
I am afraid this won't work. When you apply something vertically on the camera, the center of gravity gets thrown off immensely. It's possible that you could get the unit to pan, but tilting will be a huge problem. This combination is not recommended, however, if you have the unit and you try it, let us know how it goes!
+Leonardo Rossi The Lumix LX100 is certainly light enough to balance on the DS1. Balancing all together can be easy once you get used to it. The camera will balance, but you will have to take a little bit of time to fine tune it yourself. You can always reference this video for help with balancing.
Even after using special mount plate i still can't balance the height of the camera its still tilting forward and there is no way i can get my a6300 with kit lense balanced :(
Hello! Yes, that combination will work, but the pitch movement might be limited. Please check out the "Charts & Features" tab and you'll see many combinations that work/don't work for the 5D Mark 3. bit.ly/2jyT5QB - some of the combinations even have their own balancing video and this combination does have one!
+Runcom COMRUN Vibrations in the unit can happen if the camera is not properly balanced - like the video says, it takes some time and patience to balance your camera - but if your camera is properly balanced and this is a running issue by all means please contact support@ikancorp.com and let them know what's going on. They will be able to help you out!
+ikan Corporation hello, thank you for your tutorial I'm stepping and I managed to stabilize it, little question that can be added as an accessory microphone zoom H1. Thank you in advance for your answer !
+Unscripted Memories u need to use the additonal base plate adopter which come with it , u have to raise the height of ur cam , optionaly u can use any qucick relase plate for it too , as it will also increase the height of cam ..
Hi, my DS1 beholder has arrived, I'm trying to balance my Lumix LX100 on it, but sometimes the camera turn around and the motors vibrate, do you know why? Let me know! Thanks
doesnt work? i cant balance on the tilt axis, there is no where for the camera to go, leaving it impossible to balance. i'm obviously missing something
+LiRi Elgozi Hi there. I know it will work with a 6D, but it really depends on the size and weight of your gear put together. Please check the specs to see if your combination will fit the requirements for balancing. bit.ly/1SxWjyV
My A7sII is balanced perfecly, and it is shaking and doing a lot of noise!!! What are happening? I bought in USA and I live in Brazil. I don't know what to do now. I can't use my beholder this way.
Mario, please contact support@ikancorp.com - I'm very sorry about the inconvenience this is causing you. Our support team will be able to help you out.
i can't get my G7 with14-42 to balance at all. it oscilates badly. the A6300, on the other hand, balances perfectly, but id rather use the lumix specifically for this gimbal
+Scott Hayes Hey Scott! Thank you for being Ikan customer, we value our customers. Can you please take a video and email it to support@ikancorp.com? to better assist you. Thank you!.
+Enrique Navarro Sometimes it takes a few tries to get it right, but if you keep encountering problems, please don't hesitate to contact support@ikancorp.com
Not much, that is the main problems with these gimbals along with bobbing upnand down when walking, for 300.00 more you can get a ronin m which works flawlessy but bigger obviously.
You set up your camera the way you want it to be so if you want your flip-out screen to be out, that's how you have to start off before balancing. If you flip the screen out after balancing, it will throw off the balance and you'll have to calibrate it again. Same goes for lens caps and such - always make sure your camera is set the way you're going to use it before balancing.. lens caps, flip-out screens, etc.
+Kiran Varma Careful with that - the exact same specification batteries from Samsung were 5mm short in height. Will probably still work (because the springs are huge), but it is a bit worrying that the DS1 batteries are not a standard size. Or maybe it is that the Samsungs are not standard?
Why do all these gimbals have so much bobbing up and down? Nothing like a Ronin. Tell the techs to put accessory screws inputs on the handle like the pilotfly so you can attach a small monitor like the smallhd501, sure helps when you cannot effectively see the cameras lcd on these gimbals..👌🏻
i am sure you already know it by now, but for 3axis gimbal rocking motion (x and y) is operator responsibility. The operator need to learn the "steady" walk.

Do u get any vibrations with ur 6300? I do and I'm using the 10-18 lens
+LifeFromMyAngle no I'm not. Thanks to this video. I'm using the Zeiss 12 mm Touit
wait did ikan buy out the beholder?also can you flip it so that the camera is connected on the other side of the camera
they are a reseller
that took me an hour. Without the additional base plate, it would not had worked with my GH4. But luckily it does! Amazing piece of technology.
Is there a reason - after balancing every axis - that the unit will drift to the left?
I can't balance the Sony A6300 the bottom is heavy no matter what and i've also raised it up as much as i can but its still bottom heavy
+JStudioPro & T.Dot Studios I'm having the same issue with the DS-1 and my Sony a6300. Maybe this particular camera is too small for the DS-1... (?) Maybe the MS-1 is better for the a6300... I don't know. It's very frustrating.
+jbizness i actually got it to work you need height on the camera i put a hot shoe on my camera it gave it height and balanced perfectly on the tilt
+JStudioPro & T.Dot Studios Excellent. I'll try that or the body case.

You say it's available now? Not at B&H. I ordered it, but none in stock yet.

Ikan International pulled up your link but nothing loads....
Could I balance this without the counterweights with an A6000 and a video light in the hotshoe mount?
I am afraid this won't work. When you apply something vertically on the camera, the center of gravity gets thrown off immensely. It's possible that you could get the unit to pan, but tilting will be a huge problem. This combination is not recommended, however, if you have the unit and you try it, let us know how it goes!
ikan Corporation so basically I just need the counterweights?
The DS1 doesn't come with counterweights. For some shorter cameras, you use a riser plate. Could that be what you're referring to?
I added some weight to the hotshoe and it works fine

MY DS1 is paning to the right very slowly, e,g, if I place it on a tripod with a camera on it, I get a slow pan. And I cannot fix it. Any suggestions?

looks way easier than balancing a glidecam or steadicam
