I had the exact same problem, exact point to point, and I tried everything absolutely everything you described here. And when I got a breakthrough when I bought a good quality fast drying sublimation paper, after just changing the paper I was able to produce only black images logos etc on same settings as you described in the beginning. Settings are always the same, paper is the problem.
@@modernwize I realy don't know, I buy it by peace, like 100 at a time, no box no label nothing but this supplier was wonderful explaining all how paper is important. I just know that this is high quality and very fast drying sublimation paper. I was abke to produce Matrix mug with full color lime green on pure black background if was beautiful.
So I'm on my second day of trying to print black text on it. First 3 came out light brown. I did a cleaning routine on my printer and it came out navy blue. So I don't know it that's an issue and maybe the sublimation paper with it. I am using good quality sub paper but it still comes out the wrong color
Hi, Thanks for the video and the comments helped me to sort it out. Im using a epson L800 Model. And as @Ryan Slocombe mentioned in the earlier comments. Try changing the paper from glossy paper to MATT PAPER in the printer section. It works...
Having a similar issue where black prints on my mugs give me ghosting where any other light color is fine. Its got to be something with the ink/paper. I've tried every single press alterations and times and same results.
Black coming out brown is over cooked. Never raise the temp. If my settings of 150 sec at 180 deg C don't work, try 150 sec at 150 Deg C. You said that the blacks don't look black when printed out. Can you confirm that you have the powerriver software is correctly installed and selected when you are printing?
+Martin Butler I have now installed the power driver to my mac, i am using pixelmator, its similar to Photoshop, i have no idea how to make the adjustments so they match the same as they should be in Photoshop etc, i was using the basic driver for the printer, so i dont know if i am using the power driver now or not.. :S
@@sophielouise2176 I figured it out, basically black ink is sensitive to heat and gets burnt when the temperature is kept high and more time is given. You have to set ur machine with trial and error. In my mug press the pressure was too much so even when i was not giving it to much temperature black colour was still coming as brown. I lowered the pressure and adjusted the heat settings and time and now its coming fine. There was a little miss print in a mug at the bottom which tells me that i should increase the pressure a little more.

Researching further, I found a video by Jared from Heat Press Nation. He recommends Neena Jetcol DHS paper for sublimating black images on coffee mugs and TexPrint XPHR paper for other substrates when using heavy black images. I have not tried resolution this yet.
I'm having the same problem. But I don't think it's anything to do with the temp or time. It seems more of an issue with printing. I can't use powerdriver as my Mac doesn't support it. I've tried with different icc profiles, but always get the same result.

Don't know if this would help, but I have the same printer and thought I was doing something wrong also, I had a sublimation printout from a sublimation site and it said to press the mug using medium pressure and for 6 minutes. Everytime I did that the finished product would almost look sepia-tone...the blacks looked almost brown. I then cut the time back to 3 minutes....and that seemed to fix the problem.
i had that problem and it was all because of the ink it was damaged , i put a new set of ink from a different supplier al lcolors turn out good now even the black no more browns

I definitely see a relation to inconsistent heat. So I've been turning the mugs and tumblers more often and that seems to do the trick. So far so good anyway
I just figured this out today, ITS MY PAPER! - i googled and googled, all the answers would be TIME, TEMP, PRESSURE, print settings, profiles etc, nothing worked. I have a3 paper which works (the A4 i was using same printer same settings, in the press together) - one paper came out black the other Brown. I spent hours and hours thinking i was doing it wrong. Only now that I am searching my sublimation paper is turning my blacks to brown am i finding any info on it. the colours are working ok so i had no idea what was going on. the paper was was from a proper sublimation supplies store so I am pretty disappointed to say the least.
@@fyou7305 it was 'permasub' paper I had issues with getting browns. I was recommended "A-sub 125" at 204 degrees Celsius for 65sec for Acrylic (the substrate i was having the most significant issues with) and have had much better results and really nice blacks on my converted epson eco tank 8550.
also could you do a review on you Galaxy heat press I am co sidering buying their latest 40x50cm model abd wondered if it was a good brand press abs if it is worth the £900 plus price tag

I have the same problem with Chemink and epson printer. Blacks are printing brownish when there's more than 70% black on the image.

imho its the mugs, i had no issues till i ranout of mugs and bought some from another supplier, and bam brown from the first mug, its the coating.

I changed from glossy paper to Matt paper in the printer section for any black text and that sorted it for me.

175C is optimal for ricoh gel inks. I use 260sec and is working great

What is the name of the paper? I have a brand called A sub 125g using an epson 2800 . All colors work fine except the black
