You sir, are a ledgend. I have a five year plan to have a home buisness set up for my retirement. I have watched a few of your vids, all very helpfull. Thank you.
I used a Cricut mug press straight out the box and my black colour turned out brown. I didn't realise the Cricut MP had three heat settings, so I turned it down to the 1st setting and only cook for 4mins and not the full 6mins and it is a much better black. But I will try the pre-heating trick next time and see how it works
OMG i've wasted so much mugs by not setting the time AFTER the core temp hits 400 degrees. Thank you so much for the video. I was about to give up on sublimation mugs but now i'm excited might take the day off work to make mugs haha have a great day!
Hi Martin, Im a newbie but have run into an issue that I haven't seen addressed anywhere. I have successfully done mug pressing but used a new paper A SUB sublimation paper. Total failure. The paper stuck to the mug. Under the paper was a thick wax stuck onto the mug..Scraping the the wax there is a light print on the mug...Excited to read you're on UDEMY!
Great video.. another tips and trix for designing if you are running mac is a program called Pixelmator, cost about 15 quid in App Store and has the power of Photoshop. Very good program. Its even possible to create Vector graphics with it.
+HearGear Totally agree with you, I have been using pixelmator for quite a while now and it is an excellent piece of software that compares very well with photoshop, and will also accept colour profiles. I think it is currently about £22.99 but worth every penny.
thank you for sharing these videos. I just started and went through a lot of mugs already because they were not clear by colour. your videos made clear to me that the time was to long. so I am going to try again. I was giving up hope already cause couldn't find the problem. so gonna give it a try again. thanks you so much. ~Mel~
HI Mel, there is an element of trial and error as all equipment is different but at least you have a better idea now. Thanks for watching. Cheers Martin
My problems with my sublimation is that the edges near the handle and the corners at the bottom, have faded colors. It's like it didn't even transfer the image unto the mug. The rest of the print has the correct colors though, what's wrong with this?
+Glyne Drakes You should check out my training dvd for more reasons not to make mistakes at ukinternetmarketingschool.com/my-products/mug-printing-dvd-for-fun-and-profit/ Thanks for watching. Cheers Martin
Good evening Sir Martin! I want to purchase the Mug for fun video but I need to know if it will work here in the states before I do!Also what do you think about Sawgrass sublimation printers? A little expense but I figure it would get the job done!Thank you for your time!Michael
Hi Michael, Yes the dvd should work in any dvd player and also your PC. The printer and inks I have used for the last 12 years is in the dvd and the printers to avoid and the reasons why. Cheers Martin
Hi Martin, I'm wondering if a few drops of dye based inks that came with the printer, mix with the sublimation ink, would that cause a problem with the ink transfer colours? I removed the ink from the printer tank with a syringe, so some droplets of it were left in the tank, then I added the sublimation ink. I'm having a problem with the blues, and the grey is turning pink. Is this common? Thanks a lot.
Faris Baidoun The print heads would have still have been full with dye ink so this is probably your problem. You should have also removed the cartridges and cleaned the print heads out with a syringe and all the print lines. What sublimation inks are you using.
Martin Butler So shall I throw all my sublimation ink now away? or do a couple of more prints till the old dye ink gets pushed out? The sublimation ink that i use is a Chinese one, unfortunately there are no other options to choose from in my area, yet I saw the results by the same printer and the colours were fine. Thanks a lot for your help.
Hello I’m having the issue of getting green in my black we have done everything and we are pressing 170 degrees at 170 seconds. I’ve got a pneumatic machine and I’m using subli rip. Please let me know what you suggest
@@reviewthat hello, I should of been more clear, I was sublimating Mugs at 200c for 300seconds and getting great results. I topped up my ink with the same ink I was using not changing anything else and the blacks are coming out green?
Hey Martin, thank you for posting this video for issues related to Poly coated white ceramic mugs. It is indeed super helpful! Would you have any idea of what would cause the issue of the image NOT being transferred at all? I am using the cricut MP and sublimation on a poly coated clear glass mug and I have tried several techniques but it image just is not transferring during the heating process. Could it be too hot or maybe not hot enough? During my last attempt I put on 3 layers of butcher paper and the image transferred just a little tiny bit in some areas but was still very faint. I really want this work and would super appreciate your advice if you've got any. Thanks ahead :)
Hi martin great video....just want to ask you a few questions regarding mug press and it's process....I'm not sure if your are familiar with the 3D sublimation machine...we have one in our shop but having problems with printing the images on the mugs, esp the edge where it always peals off...any solution?
Hello there I’m having a problem with my paper sticking to my tumblers after I press it and also my tumblers are burning when I do the toaster oven. What am I doing wrong.
Hi have a problem, not sure if it's the paper because the paper it perfect for colour and quality on every other product, but when I am mug printing it can wash off or full image peel off after 3 washes, how can I make it stick better or less textured picture on the mug?
Great page is this defo thinking about getting your DVD! just a quick question, I have a press that sits idle at 100c, then when I click the timer I have to wait for it to reach 180c then the timer starts counting down, some people do 4 mins e.g. conde, so if I increased the timer from 180 seconds to 240 that extra minute should allow the temp to go up, so is it ok for a mug to sit in a press while the temp goes back up or is it bad for the print? thanks.
+Skynepsis It will be a trial and error situation until you find the right time for the press you are using. There is no exact time as each press and ink set up has different characteristics. Cheers Martin
Hi, me and my partner have just started doing this and we put the cup in for 3mins at 180c the cup comes out really good but the heat tape stains the cup. Any help on the tape issue would be grateful
I’ve noticed if I clean my mug with alcohol it didn’t stain it, I had that problem too. If it does try rubbing peroxide immediately after pressing. Hope it works
Hello Martin, My problem is with colours , The cyan is dull, and the black turns to be brownish. although my print on paper is perfect, and doesn't even seems to be dull or washed out. I press the mug on 200 C for 4 minutes, the Magenta and yellow are quite good on the mug. any suggestions for this issue? I heat the press with a blank mug till it reaches the temperature (200 C), then remove it and place my mug that needs sublimation,I notice that the heat drops to 180 C, is that wrong? Thanks
Faris Baidoun Hi, if your blacks are brown, it's too much heat for too long. When the press reaches 200 degrees C, put the sublimation mug in the press. The temp will drop but wait till the temp reaches 200 again and then start the timer for 180 seconds. This is what I do. Cheers Martin
S'up Marin, thanks for the video :) I'm starting my own mug business. but I got a problem, after the sublimate process the colors are bright, pale and not fully, I changed the paper I'm using and got better results but still not satisfied. plus I can see the pixels in my design.
+Lego Sino Maybe that could have something to do with a cheap chinese mug press that don't have equal temperature all over the heat pressing area ? So that the temperature will be 200c in the middle and alot less at the corners ?
HI Martin. Thanks for the tips on mug sublimation. Anyway just a question i am starting out myself. Before i buy my items. What printer do you recommend i purchase for the best results. I know you have said you do not like Epson printers. So is the Richo brand a good brand to buy?
HI viplounger, Yes I use the Ricoh printer. You should check out my training dvd as it's easy to make mistakes and buy the wrong stuff. You also get email support with the dvd ukinternetmarketingschool.com/my-products/mug-printing-dvd-for-fun-and-profit/ Regards Martin
So I have the cricut mug press. And tonight I need a print on 1 side. And it left tape marks. How do I prevent this? And anyway to remove it? And how do I prevent this?
Hi iv not long started sublimation but now my press isn't fully transferring the ink. My heating element does seem to have wrinkles in it though. Do the elements only last so long iv done about 60-70 mugs with it so far
Thank You so much for these valuable videos. The company I work for have about three digital machines and none of them work on the same temp. or time to really sublimate the mug. There is no manual pressure on these machines as well. Too much blurring on sides and bottom. However, the question I have is......If the Artwork was done in CMYK, would that make a difference as to why the blacks are turning brown and colours appear faded? Does using RGB colour make big difference. Thanks!!
hi martin, fab vids! quick question.... i have received my mug press, have right inks ect and press heats up fine, but no image at all is coming off, not even a little bit:-( using transfer paper-shiny side, just cant figure out what im doing...or not doing? cheers
Stacey Watman Do you have sublimation coated mugs? If you get a blade, you should be able to scrape off the clear coating on the ceramic mug. Cheers Martin
Yes thank you Martin, think it was crap ink. Just received New ones but not coming out bright enough, kind of like it's been done on normal paper but it's not lol x
got the same richo printer as you and using the ciss system problem I have is reds are coming out more of a orange, any tips to help ?? I have ur dvd its great ta
Hi Martin, this is a great video. My problem is that the image simply does not appears in the mug. I have sublimation ink, and everything but i dont know what im doing wrong. i bought the machine in amazon. Its seems that its works, cuz the machine does the process but the mug appears with no image. What im doing wrong? thanks lots!
I'm having the exact same problem Maria, I'm using sublimation mugs, ink, have tried both sides of the sublimation paper, followed the (limited) instructions on my Shareprofit machine but I'm still not getting an image. Did you find out what was wrong?
If its not on the printed paper, it must be transferring from the mug press element. Try and using a sheet of clean white paper wrapped around the inside of the mug press before you put the mug in.
Hi Martin, I've got all the right equipment, I use photoshop and I have the correct profile set up (dialled in from ink supplier) but my pinks are coming out more of a salmon colour and my purples look brown coloured - I have tried different temps and pressures and times etc but no matter what I do I cannot get my pinks to look any where near bright or even very pink for that matter. Do you have any idea what it is I am missing and is this covered in your dvd?
It must be something in your printer colour settings. If you are having trouble, ask the supplier of the inks to help. They should be able to sort it. I did this when I had issues with my set up. Cheers Martin
Ok, thank you, he sent me a second profile in case the first was corrupted but it's still the same, I'll contact him again and maybe he can dial into my laptop again and see if my settings are off. Cath x
I printed a mug it came dark on but in actuall the picture was clear and clean but when i sublimated it came dark why so ? Did i burnt it by keeping it in pressing machine?
Hello, i have a problem of mug sublimation. When i print out the paper the color was good but the problem is greenish in color when it was transferred onto the mug. What should i do to avoid that greenish tints? Please help.
how would I know if its polymer carbon coated mug?We purchased 6 boxes of mugs they said it was good for sublimation printing but it was not. My husband tried to do a sample on the mug that we had before and it went well. What do you think is the problem here?thanks.
Martin Butler thanks the mug really is a fake. the ones that we had got a scratched while the other one doesn't have a scratch at all when I used the same method to scratched it.Thanks.
Hi Martin i have galaxy mug press. Working all good colours are amazing but darker colours are abit faded closer to the handle is it the ajustment of the element that is too lose or too tight or what is it? Thank you need your opinion
That can happen, Make sure your mug is situated correctly with the handle in the center. and try increasing the pressure. It's always possible that designs near the edges of the element may not take as well so we design our images with that in mind.
If the blacks are not as rich as one would expect (but really really close) would you say they may need to cook a little longer than 15min ? (mug wrap not press)
My mugs turn out great, but the photo images are blurry. Is it the picture quality my customers are sending me? Do I need my customers to send me professional quality pictures? I use photoshop, is there a better program I can use?
Hi Martin how you ever printed on enamel mugs? I am having a few problems with the colours as some turn out perfectly and some come out faded using the same pressure, heat and time.
thx you sir for reply, are there any machine that could be use to print enamel mug ? perhaps the usual heat press machine ? or 3d sublimination machine ? any suggestion maybe ?
thx for the reply, so if i use sublimation coating onto the enamel mugs, could i use the usual heat press machine , just like you use ? or still i must find a spesific press heat machine for enamel mugs ?
Hi Martin ,I'm just starting I have a pixmax mug press Epson printer my first few attempts are coming out faded and the wrong colour, I got the mugs and paper with the press btw from monster doodles.Would appreciate any help thanks Rachel.
I can only comment on the quality of the equipment I use through experience. This is the stuff I share in my training dvd as to what I have been using for the past 11 years. If you can't get any operational feedback from your supplier, I would question the quality. I don't use Epson printers for the reasons in my training dvd. That's all I can really say. Cheers Martin
Hi Martin, great video thanks, just started doing mugs myself and finding that the top end of the print once on the mug is slightly smudgy and I mean ever so slightly but the bottom like is crisp would you happen to know why this is at all and able to help?. Thanks Sam
Hello please reply, We sublimate mugs using a heat press and its been working perfect for 2 months now since starting. But all of a sudden this morning when we got to work.. it started doing streaky lines and even sometimes printed what looked like the heating element bars into the image? We've tried releasing the pressure.. turning up temp.. changing time etc.. But why would it go from being fine to not being fine over night? Do you think there's something wrong with the machine or the actual heating element? Read up on something about the teflon (whereever that is) can get dirty? Is it something to do with that? Thanks! Such a stressfull day. Wasted about 15 mugs :/
Maybe your heating element in your mug press is failing. If the print is coming out fine from the printer then it is your heat press. Either get a replacement element or get a new mug press.
Thank you ever so much for replying! We thought it might be the element going faulty.. but bought a new mug press instead, Thanks again!! Will subsribe to your channel you're very helpful! :)
Martin Can you help me .. No matter what temperature / time setting I use .. my black mug is brown ... can you suggest me best temperature and time setting for black mugs... I am using epson t60 printer with bulk ink and heat press machine
+jazie john It might be your colour profiles or the temp is too high and burning the ink. Does it print out black from the printer, if yes, lower the temp by 10 degrees C and the time by 30 seconds and try again.
+Martin Butler thxn alot ... one more thing now i m getting black .. but edges on one side near handle and bottom had smudge or fadded image .. i tried tightening mug press but still giving issue should i tighten more
Hi martin i have been experimenting with my mug press but it comes out a faded yellow on the mug so trying to get the correct sublimation ink from epson there support number says they dont sell it i dont no how to get started on this when i cant find the correct ink im so confused please can you help me?ive even been transfered to a call cetre in florida im just going in circles
Samantha, I personally don't use sublimation inks in epson printers any more as they keep blocking the fine print heads in epson printers and they waste so much ink in their maintenance cycles. with that said, if you are using an epson printer, forget about contacting epson, you should type into google " sublimatinon ink" with the name of your printer to find some suitable ink. if your mugs are coming out faded and yellow, that sounds like standard ink is being used and not sublimation ink. regards martin
HI My image is faded near the edge (near the handle) like there wasn't enough pressure, I use mug press at 180 degrees celcius for 240 secs. its mostly on one side. it is a full image print and its 22cm in length. could please tell me what I am doing wrong. Thanks
hi lou, we print at 200 degrees C for 3 mins. try this first. failing that, your mug press element might not heat up towards the edges so either upgrade your element or press or redesign your images not to the edges of the mug. regards martin
can you look on the machines and tell me if they are 50 hertz 60 hertz or both together.in Philippines the voltage is 60 hertz, szome electrical items white goods and TV's are 50+ 60 hertz but if only 50 hertz on 60 hertz system is used it will burn out after few uses. hope you can help. cheers Tony
Best to check with the manafactuers Tony. These are basically heating elements and don't contain sophisticated eletronics so I would have thought they would be fine but do check.
i bought an epson xp530 and a heat press for mugs and the paper and i tried making mugs and some reason i cannot get the ink to go on the mugs ive tried 3 times what am i doing wrong i even called them to double check and the ink will go on my mugs i need help what am i doing wrong
You need sublimation ink and Sublimation mugs. Have you watched all my vids? also check out my training dvd at ukinternetmarketingschool.com/my-products/mug-printing-dvd-for-fun-and-profit/
yes i bought a epson xp 350 printer and bought 36 sublimation mugs and also the paper i was told by epson that i had all the right stuff so i could print on mugs but i found out today from heat press nation that they lied to me i have the mugs and i bought the paper and i even called epson to double check and they said yes i have everything i need to print on my mugs but they said the ink is different could you tell of a good place to buy the right printer that will not cost me hundreds of dollar the cheapest i have found is like 700 dollars there have got to be be some cheaper ones out there i can use thank you so much
I have a few questions if you could help me out , I’m having issues with dark colors coming out right on my dolphin 11oz mugs.. first batch came out great now my 2nd box of mugs are horrible?!! I have not changed anything
Hi Martin, Ive just purchased a mug press, im embarrased to say its taken me 5 hours to figure out how to actually print :/ but I have that perfect, when I put the mug into the press and heat for the recommended time, it doesnt transfer anything onto the mug. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks :)
Hi, Martin. Thank you so much for your videos, I've learned so much from you, sir. I am also starting up a home business and I'm planning to purchase your DVD but I'm wondering which educational medium has most recent and wider information? you DVD or your course in Udemy? Thank you and keep it up
Help please, I have an MP-160 mug press, and it makes me want to pull my hair out. One day it will do a good print, then the next day, no settings changed, it will do a crap print. Like today, a small text print design that im doing fills the mug top to bottom, i did settings of 180 degress 80 seconds (this has worked good before), top and bottom was good, but a few lines of text in the middle were pale. So i put it back in for another 60 seconds and then top few lines have gone from black to brown, and still too pale in the middle. The tension of the press is pretty tight on the mug. Its just never consistent, same ink, same mugs...
You have a poor element in your mug press, When blacks turn brown, the heat has burned the black inks. You probably need a better quality mug press i'm afraid.
@@reviewthat I reduced the time & heat and was achieving a good black, i also took a lot of the yellow out of my black colour mix when printing and i was having good black results. Its the top part over heating then, and the middle not heating enough. Maybe my element is warn out :-(
Thank you - That sounds great. 1 more thing. What printer do you recommend for sublimation printing? Once I get that, I will be buying your course to get started.
hello martin can you help please.I have bought a mug press and I have an epsson sx510w printer an need to know what is the ink I buy .I have been on several ink places and no on has replied an I want to buy the ink but do I go for ink with the syringes empty cartridges and ink bundle that I saw on ebay or the bottles that have tubes to attatch .Its so confusing! many thanks in advance and love your videos! regards catherine
Clovathistles HI Catherine, I personally don't use Epson printers any more for my mug sublimation because they always blocked up and the maintenance cycles of Epson printers waste so much of your valuable sublimation ink. However, If you are going to give it a try, look for a system where you buy a CISS system where you get the bulk ink containers , the hoses and the cartridges and the reset chips. These are better than having just the cartridges that you have to ill up with syringes. you then have to choose a sublimation ink. You would do better to buy www.subliblanks.com/Equipment/Sublimation-Printers/Ricoh-SG3110DN-Sublimation-Gel-Printer-And-Sublimation-Inks this is a great package and I have never had any problems with this system. Cheers Martin
Martin Butler hi martin hope your well !! I had a look at the ink and its saying its £46.99 for one ink !I am sure I watched your video saying it costs around £13 a bottle for your ink am I on the right one sorry to be a pain !regards catherine
Clovathistles The £13 ink you are referring to is the ink I use for my t shirt transfers, this is not sublimation process. £46 is for 1 sublijet ink cartridge and there are 4 in total but they last for ages when only used for mug sublimation.
Martin Butler ah I understand you now lol I have watched so many of your videos that I have mixed myself up !ok will get these ordered and fingers crossed we get started this week many thanks again martin your a star!
Thank you for a very informative video. I can not find what or how to set my paper type in Corel Draw 7,for sublimation printing. Is it std paper, glossy, inkjet plain etc etc. Also, my blacks look brown and my reds look dirty. Any ideas, kind sir?
Blacks looking brown is too much heat. Try dropping the temp down to 175 deg C instead of 200 for 3 mins. The colour profiles will be specified by your ink supplier and is altered in your printer options. Cheers Martin
Thank you very much. This may be a silly question, but I truly can not find any info online. Can you use the same sublimation printer and paper for t-shirts as you use for mugs. I have a Ricoh 2100-n All my prints onto T-shirts looks very weak and have no definition, but mugs are good.
hiya could you help im printing at 200c 180sec but the mugs are scratching off not with my finger nail but with pin completely off can you help me please?? thankyou
You will scratch them off with a pin. The mugs are coated with a polyester film so ceramic mugs can be printed on. It is not designed to be scratched off with a metal object. Regards Martin
Hello, I was hoping for some direction, I have been printing images on to mugs great a few times with some vibrant colours like a tiger. these seam to have come out quite well and I have had no issues with them. Now I have been having some issues lately with a black images I have adjusted times and also tried new inks, mugs & Two sets of papers from different suppliers. but they still seam to come out a faded black. Any assistance would be very welcome thanks.
Also, check your color profiles. Whatever printer you use it has to have correct profiles. Usually a supplier, where you brought your printer from, can help with that.
Hi Martin, wondering if you have had any problems similar to me and if you know the solution? When sublimation a mug I'm getting a very rich dark black on the text but not on black and white photo images or half tone images in black and white, they are turning out with a yellowish tint in the background, almost like a sepier effect?
I've been trying to work with printing on mugs for a couple months have done everything you have said on both your here and your course is there any chance you could help. I've been able to print onto the mug but the image is very faded and patchy. I've waited for the temp to go back up to 200 after mug has gone in but still having the same problems.
Need more information, What inks are you using? What sublimation paper are you using? Are you printing on the right side of the sublimation paper ? Are the mugs you are printing on proper sublimation mugs?
I intend to do Mugs also T-shirt printing , but I will be doing it in the Philippines ( Emigrating), I have questions but will the DVD you have give me all the answers, type of paper inks printer and machines for pressing. regards Tony
looking desperately for some help. I'm pretty new to the sublimation game. had major problems with the original printer I purchased and have bought a similar one so I could use the same ciss. everything seems to print out ok colours all look pretty perfect, but when I sublimate the image to a mug the colours come out red/pink, black comes out black, haven't changed paper or mugs since last successful sublimation with the old printer. any help would be greatly appreciated
+Imogene Dickie Whatever ink you are using, you would need to change the colour profiles of your printer settings. Your ink supplier should provide this info. That's why your colours are wrong I suspect. Regards Martin
Hi Thanks for getting back to me, will check the colour settings. It had me stumped because on the paper it looks fine but when sublimated it's only red no matter what colour I print. Black is absolutely fine though. Had nothing but trouble since I started doing this maybe should just give up lol
Imogene Dickie There are so many different inks and printer combinations, and I have used many but the one I recommend is the Ricoh sg3110 printer with the Sawgrass Sublijet inks with the powerdriver software. I have used this for years with no problems whatsoever. Like you, I wasted much money and time using other stuff till I found that combination. Cheers Martin
Hello - I am new to sublimation and am have trouble printing my mugs. The mugs look great, but will have small black dots in random places on the mug. Any idea the reason for this?
Martin Butler Here is a link to an image. www.dropbox.com/s/gwbfdxx5uhsjd0h/photo%201.JPG?dl=0 You can see black spots under the "n" in morning. It almost looks like speckled dust.
You should check if your printer is making these marks of if the marks are on the graphic you have used as a background. There is no reason why the sublimation process would create this. It's a matter of making sure there is nothing untoward on your sublimation paper image before you press. Regards Martin
Martin Butler I noticed that my Epson Stylus C88 printer is printing small black specks on the paper. This is not on the design. Do you know why this would be happening. This printer has given me some trouble because I need to clean the print heads almost every time I use it.
Hi Martin,I am new to the mug printing business. I was wondering whether to buy a package deal (eg, purchase a mug press, printer etc all in one) or to buy the items separatelythanksConor
Martin, Whenever I try to sublimate a circular design onto my mugs they always end up being oblong - do you have any tricks to fix this? Maybe how to size the image properly to make it where it does not come out so oblong?
Hi. We have bought all the right stuff - printer recommended by people we got the sublimation ink and paper from and also mugs that are for this procedure. We have tried and tried, watched your youtube and tried again and all we get is a yellowish print of what we are trying to print. Any suggestions please. Cheers
Thank you for answering us. The mugs we ordered are called Dye Sublimation White Mug. We were just looking through the suppliers shop and they also have Heat Press Sublimation Mugs. Did we get the wrong ones and what is the difference between these 2 mugs. Thank you again
Best ask them Darren, I would think they are the same. I can;t really say without seeing for myself. Are you printing on he correct side of the transfer paper as well?
Martin big fan watched all your videos I am having a problem with my mug coming out brown it happens if the mug is 80 percent black background I have tried 170 temp idle 110 120 seconds any tips would be appreciated
Hi Printing a print onto a black Sublamtion mug with a white printable area, Image is black and pink white, though starts ok in centre than quickly fades to white, any help would be grateful
Hello. I'm wondering if there's an expert here who can throw some light on why the Black writing (only) is coming out worn around the edges. We're using new paper printed on the same day, but it still fades to that brown discolour at the edges. I'm not the sharpest pencil in the box! And was wondering if there's something I'm doing wrong! Kind regards from a fellow Englishman down South East! =-)
Some inks are more sensitive to heat and blacks can go brownish with too much heat. Try lowering the temp to 175 Degrees C for 3 mins and see what happens.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks a bunch
Thank you very much, Martin, I´ve started my little home business a year ago due to your inspiration ! Many greatings to you from Czech Republic.
Hey, that's great. Thanks for watching and good luck.

Martin
Thanks for this. Its been by far the most comprehensive info on here . will be ordering a dvd :)
Hey Carl, Thanks for your comment.

Martin
where are you ordering the dvd from please
Great video and amazing tips. I'm just starting out in the sublimation game and any information is valuable. Thanks.
Thanks Darren, glad you enjoyed.

Hi Martin,
Im a newbie but have run into an issue that I haven't seen addressed anywhere. I have successfully done mug pressing but used a new paper A SUB sublimation paper. Total failure. The paper stuck to the mug. Under the paper was a thick wax stuck onto the mug..Scraping the the wax there is a light print on the mug...Excited to read you're on UDEMY!
Not heard of that paper before, use a good known paper, We used the dyesub paper from Subliblanks or the City Ink Express papers.
Thanks for the video and the information I wouldn't have known to check that the mugs could be bad
+forrealgirl 42 Yes, there's a lot of inferior mugs on Ebay so that's why it's best to buy from a known company.
Cheers
Martin
Great video.. another tips and trix for designing if you are running mac is a program called Pixelmator, cost about 15 quid in App Store and has the power of Photoshop. Very good program. Its even possible to create Vector graphics with it.
+HearGear Nice tip.
Cheers
Martin
Cheers :D

My problems with my sublimation is that the edges near the handle and the corners at the bottom, have faded colors. It's like it didn't even transfer the image unto the mug. The rest of the print has the correct colors though, what's wrong with this?
Sounds like a poor heating element to me.
Martin Butler I'm having exactly the same problem with fading at the edges. What mug press do you use Martin?

I have just purchased a Galaxy Mug press from Subliblanks. Check out my review vid.

Good stuff Martin. I wouldn't mind buying a cup do you do custom images? such as any image? I can't seem to find your online store though
just drop me an email from the contact us page on my website in the description Mark and i'll sort it out.

Ok mate, I'll email you over the weekend. Cheers
🇨🇦/🇺🇸... Thanks for the info. I WONDER if storing extra images in a refrigerator would help keep the ink stable? hmmmm 🤔

Martin Butler .....Thank you very much!
Hi Martin,
I'm wondering if a few drops of dye based inks that came with the printer, mix with the sublimation ink, would that cause a problem with the ink transfer colours?
No, don't throw it away. just do a few head cleans till you clear the old ink and see if that works.
Cheers

Hello I’m having the issue of getting green in my black we have done everything and we are pressing 170 degrees at 170 seconds. I’ve got a pneumatic machine and I’m using subli rip. Please let me know what you suggest
Have you altered the printer profiles to suit your sublimation ink?
I am getting green in my black any idea?
Try and run, printer maintenance
@@reviewthat hello, I should of been more clear, I was sublimating Mugs at 200c for 300seconds and getting great results. I topped up my ink with the same ink I was using not changing anything else and the blacks are coming out green?
Hello good day. What causes the print to be blurred on the paper but not printing on the mug?
Moisture in the transfer paper.
Home Print thank you. I’ll change the paper.
Are you printing on the right side of the transfer paper?
great video. will check out your training. is it available download?

Hi martin great video....just want to ask you a few questions regarding mug press and it's process....I'm not sure if your are familiar with the 3D sublimation machine...we have one in our shop but having problems with printing the images on the mugs, esp the edge where it always peals off...any solution?
I've not used those machines so I can't really comment. Sorry.

Would this work for tumblers aswell? I am having issues with colors and as you mentioned, the temp does drop once the tumbler is clamped in.
Hello there I’m having a problem with my paper sticking to my tumblers after I press it and also my tumblers are burning when I do the toaster oven. What am I doing wrong.
Not sure, sorry.
Hi have a problem, not sure if it's the paper because the paper it perfect for colour and quality on every other product, but when I am mug printing it can wash off or full image peel off after 3 washes, how can I make it stick better or less textured picture on the mug?
Maybe your mugs are not any good for sublimation. They need a polyester coating and maybe they have a cheap coating on them.

Hi Martin. Can I use HTV Zon mugs and plates? Thanks for your reply. Thanks for sharing and caring
Answered in your last comment.
Hi, me and my partner have just started doing this and we put the cup in for 3mins at 180c the cup comes out really good but the heat tape stains the cup. Any help on the tape issue would be grateful
i've not had that issue, maybe try a different heat tape.
@@reviewthat wow...good advice
Try leaving the paper longer so you can put the tape in the gap the handle leaves. This is what helped me best.
I’ve noticed if I clean my mug with alcohol it didn’t stain it, I had that problem too. If it does try rubbing peroxide immediately after pressing. Hope it works
where would i get the best mug blanks or can you recommend somewhere please
There's not much difference between them. They all tend to be imported from China.
Hello Martin,
My problem is with colours ,
The cyan is dull, and the black turns to be brownish.
although my print on paper is perfect, and doesn't even seems
to be dull or washed out.
I press the mug on 200 C for 4 minutes,
the Magenta and yellow are quite good on the mug.
any suggestions for this issue?
I heat the press with a blank mug till it reaches the temperature (200 C),
then remove it and place my mug that needs sublimation,I notice that the heat drops to 180 C, is that wrong?
Thanks
here is an image of a mug I tested
www.pixentral.com/show.php?picture=1TEdwVrRpHdtZ55PcQf4BGZUoBF1w
Faris Baidoun Hi, if your blacks are brown, it's too much heat for too long. When the press reaches 200 degrees C, put the sublimation mug in the press. The temp will drop but wait till the temp reaches 200 again and then start the timer for 180 seconds.
This is what I do.
Cheers
Martin
Martin Butler Thank you Martin, I will try this
What editing to use on epson printer on a iPad please for colours
S'up Marin, thanks for the video :)
I'm starting my own mug business.
but I got a problem, after the sublimate process the colors are bright, pale and not fully, I changed the paper I'm using and got better results but still not satisfied.
plus I can see the pixels in my design.
+Lego Sino Maybe that could have something to do with a cheap chinese mug press that don't have equal temperature all over the heat pressing area ? So that the temperature will be 200c in the middle and alot less at the corners ?
👍👍
HI Martin. Thanks for the tips on mug sublimation. Anyway just a question i am starting out myself. Before i buy my items. What printer do you recommend i purchase for the best results. I know you have said you do not like Epson printers. So is the Richo brand a good brand to buy?

So I have the cricut mug press. And tonight I need a print on 1 side. And it left tape marks. How do I prevent this? And anyway to remove it? And how do I prevent this?
Maybe it's the tape you are using, I never had that problem.
Can you use any coffe mugs to sublimate on?
No, they need to be treated with a special polyester coating for sublimation.
Hi iv not long started sublimation but now my press isn't fully transferring the ink.
My heating element does seem to have wrinkles in it though.
Do the elements only last so long iv done about 60-70 mugs with it so far
I would suggest that you may have a cheap press. My press lasted for a few thousand mugs.
@@reviewthat thanks for the fast reply. Ill have a look at some better ones
Thanks!!
After watching your video my images are clear and crisp and colors vibrant. However my heat tape left marks how do I get those marks off of the cups?
it might be cheap heat tape, mine didn't leave marks.

Hello, Martin! Thank you for your valuable videos! What is your basic parameters (time and temperature) for mug cooking you set? Thank you!
It depends on your mug press but basic starting point is 190 DegC for 180 seconds.
You need to use sublimation mugs. They have a special coating on them. Normal ceramic mugs are no good. Hope this helps.

Martin
Yup i bought sublimation mugs
Are you printing on the correct side of the transfer paper?
I'm having the exact same problem Maria, I'm using sublimation mugs, ink, have tried both sides of the sublimation paper, followed the (limited) instructions on my Shareprofit machine but I'm still not getting an image. Did you find out what was wrong?
Hi my mug us printing little red lines abit like a barcode on white background mugs please advise
If its not on the printed paper, it must be transferring from the mug press element. Try and using a sheet of clean white paper wrapped around the inside of the mug press before you put the mug in.
@@reviewthat is this normal A4 paper or sublimation paper & just confirm it is defo inside of the mug. Cheers
Cheers
Martin
Ok, thank you, he sent me a second profile in case the first was corrupted but it's still the same, I'll contact him again and maybe he can dial into my laptop again and see if my settings are off. Cath x
I printed a mug it came dark on but in actuall the picture was clear and clean but when i sublimated it came dark why so ? Did i burnt it by keeping it in pressing machine?
I don't know how long you cooked it for bud. If you suspect that, try less time.

Hello, i have a problem of mug sublimation. When i print out the paper the color was good but the problem is greenish in color when it was transferred onto the mug. What should i do to avoid that greenish tints? Please help.
You need to make sure your ICC profiles are set up correctly for your sublimation ink.
how would I know if its polymer carbon coated mug?We purchased 6 boxes of mugs they said it was good for sublimation printing but it was not. My husband tried to do a sample on the mug that we had before and it went well. What do you think is the problem here?thanks.
Hard to say without seeing them but you could try and scratching one of the mugs to see if there is a coating on them.
So basicly you make your design about 94cm wide even tho you can make ir 96cm right? Thanks
If the blacks are not as rich as one would expect (but really really close) would you say they may need to cook a little longer than 15min ? (mug wrap not press)
Normally if the blacks are not quite black, you should reduce the time for cooking.
My mugs turn out great, but the photo images are blurry. Is it the picture quality my customers are sending me? Do I need my customers to send me professional quality pictures? I use photoshop, is there a better program I can use?
Photoshop is fine. Make sure the pictures are of good enough quality before you print.
Hi Martin how you ever printed on enamel mugs? I am having a few problems with the colours as some turn out perfectly and some come out faded using the same pressure, heat and time.
Not done enamel mugs i'm afraid. It will be trial and error.
love this video sir, may i know, does sublimation technique can be applied for enamel mug / stainless mug?
Yes, but they must have the special sublimation clear coating applied first.

thx you sir for reply, are there any machine that could be use to print enamel mug ? perhaps the usual heat press machine ? or 3d sublimination machine ? any suggestion maybe ?
I'm sure that there is a press for enamel mugs but you must have the sublimation coating as I said.

Martin
thx for the reply, so if i use sublimation coating onto the enamel mugs, could i use the usual heat press machine , just like you use ? or still i must find a spesific press heat machine for enamel mugs ?
Yes, if you apply the correct sublimation coating. It's a clear polyester liquid.

Good luck.

+Martin Butler thxn alot ... one more thing now i m getting black .. but edges on one side near handle and bottom had smudge or fadded image .. i tried tightening mug press but still giving issue should i tighten more
jazie john
That is due to your element not heating to the edges of the element. This normally happens with the cheaper mug presses.

Samantha, I personally don't use sublimation inks in epson printers any more as they keep blocking the fine print heads in epson printers and they waste so much ink in their maintenance cycles. with that said, if you are using an epson printer, forget about contacting epson, you should type into google " sublimatinon ink" with the name of your printer to find some suitable ink. if your mugs are coming out faded and yellow, that sounds like standard ink is being used and not sublimation ink.

hi lou, we print at 200 degrees C for 3 mins. try this first. failing that, your mug press element might not heat up towards the edges so either upgrade your element or press or redesign your images not to the edges of the mug.

The £13 ink you are referring to is the ink I use for my t shirt transfers, this is not sublimation process. £46 is for 1 sublijet ink cartridge and there are 4 in total but they last for ages when only used for mug sublimation.

You are burning the blacks. Lower the temp by 15 degC and lower the time by 20 seconds and see how that does.
Also, check your color profiles. Whatever printer you use it has to have correct profiles. Usually a supplier, where you brought your printer from, can help with that.

You are burning the ink. Lower the temp by 10 degrees and drop the time by 20 seconds and see how that goes.
Martin, what company do you use to purchase your blanks for sublimation?
Dennis Rivera At the moment, I am using xpres.co.uk
Cheers
Martin
Thanks
I've been trying to work with printing on mugs for a couple months have done everything you have said on both your here and your course is there any chance you could help. I've been able to print onto the mug but the image is very faded and patchy. I've waited for the temp to go back up to 200 after mug has gone in but still having the same problems.
Need more information, What inks are you using? What sublimation paper are you using? Are you printing on the right side of the sublimation paper ? Are the mugs you are printing on proper sublimation mugs?
@@reviewthat thank you for the quick reply I worked out my problem it was as simple as my press was not hot enough
I keep getting white patches when I print my mugs, do you know what causes this?
Hard do say from the description, I would need to see a photo.
I intend to do Mugs also T-shirt printing , but I will be doing it in the Philippines ( Emigrating), I have questions but will the DVD you have give me all the answers, type of paper inks printer and machines for pressing.

Tony

looking desperately for some help.

Martin
Hi Thanks for getting back to me, will check the colour settings. It had me stumped because on the paper it looks fine but when sublimated it's only red no matter what colour I print. Black is absolutely fine though. Had nothing but trouble since I started doing this maybe should just give up lol

There are so many different inks and printer combinations, and I have used many but the one I recommend is the Ricoh sg3110 printer with the Sawgrass Sublijet inks with the powerdriver software. I have used this for years with no problems whatsoever.
Like you, I wasted much money and time using other stuff till I found that combination.

No Mark's on the print out but when heat pressing it shows Marks on the product after
Dirty heat plates.
hi martin, what sublimation printer do you use please?
I use a Ricoh GXe3300n. Thanks
Martin
Hi us there a t shirt printing dvd
Hello - I am new to sublimation and am have trouble printing my mugs. The mugs look great, but will have small black dots in random places on the mug. Any idea the reason for this?
I would need to see a photo but are they on the printed paper before you press the mug?

Here is a link to an image. www.dropbox.com/s/gwbfdxx5uhsjd0h/photo%201.JPG?dl=0
You can see black spots under the "n" in morning. It almost looks like speckled dust.
You should check if your printer is making these marks of if the marks are on the graphic you have used as a background. There is no reason why the sublimation process would create this. It's a matter of making sure there is nothing untoward on your sublimation paper image before you press.

Martin
Martin Butler I noticed that my Epson Stylus C88 printer is printing small black specks on the paper. This is not on the design. Do you know why this would be happening. This printer has given me some trouble because I need to clean the print heads almost every time I use it.
It's a printer problem. I'm sorry, I don't know why.
Hi Martin,I am new to the mug printing business. I was wondering whether to buy a package deal (eg, purchase a mug press, printer etc all in one) or to buy the items separatelythanksConor
+Conor Brown I've replied to your email Conor

i still have issues with applying pressure on my mug. even after adjusting the pressure to the minimal it still breaks mug when i try to clamp it
Cheap mugs bud.
Martin,
Whenever I try to sublimate a circular design onto my mugs they always end up being oblong - do you have any tricks to fix this? Maybe how to size the image properly to make it where it does not come out so oblong?
How are you increasing the size of the circular design? You may be stretching it in your photo editing software.
Hi. We have bought all the right stuff - printer recommended by people we got the sublimation ink and paper from and also mugs that are for this procedure. We have tried and tried, watched your youtube and tried again and all we get is a yellowish print of what we are trying to print. Any suggestions please. Cheers
That normally indicates that the mugs are not sublimation mugs. You need to contact your supplier to check.
Lower the temp and time again as the blacks are burning. You'll find the right time and temp for your press this way.

Martin Butler
REALLY? :O Oh dear.. I'll try a lower temperature then, & see if that makes any difference. Thanks old chum! =-)
No problem. Thanks for your comment.
