I converted Martello tower Y a few years ago. Amazing Buildings. When I started work on it in 2005 it looked almost identical to the one you guys are exploring. A once in a lifetime job. I Share your passion for them

Where is martello Y? Always wanted to own one and live in it lol. If you've got any photos before and after I'd love to see them mate. Cheers.

@@TOM_OUTDOORS the tower is in Bawdsey. The one with the oval roof with three circular roof lights. I spent two years working on it. Such an amazing place. I've got loads of photos of the build which I'm sure I can dig out. Lost so much money working on the job but was totally the making of me as a carpenter. You couldn't ask for anything better in your cv. There wasn't a straight line on the building, curved walls radial floors and double curved ceilings. I was so nieve.

Brilliant as ever Tom... you do realise those mounts on the top of the tower are old cannon re-used as mountings for rangefinders and maybe even machine guns in WW1 and 2... personally if I owned something like that i'd renovate it and get people to pay to live like a soldier for a week... dress in all the clobber, eat the food they would have done back then, guard duty at night... then one night have a mock attack from some kind of enemy, be it German Para's or French Marines lol... one day if I win the lotto lol

The largest number of martello towers in North America is probably in Kingston Ontario, Canada. There are 6 of them scattered around the harbour and old Fort Henry. They are not quite as large as this one though. A couple are open to the public and are in their original shape with cannons.

    Hi Tom,
I was 14 when I last climbed that tower and just like you explored the building with two other mates,
I'm now 57 so 43 years have passed since then
After school and when ever we could we would gather drift Wood and stash it down by the Dutch drains, then of a Friday night we would head to the beach with a guy with a guitar and one with an accordian and barbecue the fish we caugh. Often not going home til late Sunday.
It's good to see the tower in good condition and has suffered little in the past 43 years

Cheers for watching mate and sharing your story with us, sounds amazing. The tower won't be there much longer though if the farmer or someone doesn't do something about looking after it. The wooden floors are so rotten. Very dangerous. Well worth the risk though. One of my favourite explores.

Sakunkarn Chumdonprai you read my mind lol. But you would have to ask permission from the farmer first and he's a complete tosser. We got caught by his son as we were leaving! Not a lot he could do though but they got there pretty quick. Doubt he'd grant you permission. Cheers for watching mate.

I've seen that video before and walked past it many times. Was even thinking of booking it once. Then I saw the price lol. You've done an amazing job mate, I like how some of the old original features are still left. Are you the London based industrial designer then?

I have worked on tower y for the owners. They use to holiday for 5 months of the year and rent it out to pay for the holiday. Incredibly lucky to work in such a fabulous place I think
